Iraq remains a very violent and deadly country. The recent spate of bombings reminds people of the human toll of the war, which is far from over. Early speculation that the country might be spiraling downward however, seem to be premature. While attacks and deaths are creeping back up, they are still not at December 2008 levels, let alone the rest of the previous year. What appears to have happened is that insurgent groups decided to hold off on some of their activities as the January 2009 provincial elections occurred. This was probably because so many Sunni parties were participating for the first time in local balloting. With that completed the militants have gone back to what they were doing before, and casualties, bombings, etc., have all gone up as a result. musingsoniraq.blogspot.com

A few weeks ago, I said ignore those people who believe Iraq is returning to normal and that the security in Baghdad has much improved.

Look at what happened in the past couple of days – over one hundred killed and many more injured, some severely. The number of woman suicide bombers is increasing, and some of us did argue before why such phenomenon has fast become a trend.

The tension between the religious sects remains discomfortingly tight, and killing for vengeance is on the rise. Perhaps some Iraqis could not come to terms with a pro-West government whose members keep bickering for power and self-interest instead of rebuilding conscientiously the already shattered nation.

In the final analysis, would the chaos delay the US planned exit?

Well liberal America can be glad. They have helped the terrorists in Iran renew their attacks on innocent men, women, and children. Why do liberals believe in causing so much death? I know abortion is their mantra, baby killing. But their now extending the age range a little too much. We may need a surge of troops in America to wipe out the terrorist liberals who are killing so many people!

And to think that prior to "shock & awe" Iraq had stability and was fairly prosperous. Granted, the people were under the thumb of a real dictator, but their infrastructure was intact and most of the people were able to live a life of relative peace and without fear as long as they didn't rock the dictator's boat.

Now. thanks to Bush's War their nation is mired in a civil war, occupyed by a foreign power, their infrastructure in shambles, and we're shelling out billions each month to occupy a place where we have no place being. Figure in cost of lives and limbs, the fact we've been there for 6 years with no real time limit as to when we will leave, and knowing that when we do leave that a bloody mess will ensue, one has to wonder if Bush's War was worth it all.

And BTW, you think we need to re-examine the run up to this illega/immoral war? How about the acts of rendition and torture, do they need investigation?

Iraq had conflict before we invaded and they will have conflict when we're gone. The Media uses the bombings as if Iraq was to be totally safe. We have attacks in the US but no one is coming in to stop these attacks. This fear was used by the Bush Administration Iran is one of the leaders of the Middle East led by the Iran Supreme Leader and what position he takes others will follow. The fear is Obama can bring PEACE. That means the Republicans can't have War Protiteeing with the US taxpayers money. The free taxpayers money days are gone after an 8 year run. Issrael will go it alone but they do have their 150 Nuclear Weapons. Iraq will hopefully get a new Leader who works for the interest of the people as Maliki was appointed and followed the Bush Administrations orders.

Can you name me one dekmocratic president, in our past 200+year history, who has invaded another country without cause, or with probably cause besides your "George," who as far as I'm cocerned, is responsible for the deaths of close to 5,000 of my military buddies, and close to 150,000 civilian casualties?

If you believe what you say go out and to some social work in your community and tell the mothers of teenagers who have been raped and the husbands of wives who might die through pregancy that the unborn fetus is more important than the lives of living people and not those to come.
