At least Walmart is smart to recognize that the success of future business dealings ,affecting the bottom line, will come from implementing environmental/sustainable standards. I just finished reading the book, "Hot, Flat and Crowded" by Thomas Friedman. The book talks about this subject and how the world will enter into a new climate-era age and "a green technology revolution" is needed just like the industrial revolution was needed 150 years ago. I highly recommend this book. There is a whole section on China, where they are headed and relates to this article in a big way.

On the face of it this appears to be a great move, although we all know that "local labor and environmental laws" in China are completely inadequate so this statement doesn't carry much weight. I guess Wal-Mart is embracing the reality that American consumers ARE concerned about the total cost, not just the cost at the check-out stand. Keep up the good work!!!

Walmart does'nt even pay their employees a liveable wage.They are a monopoly that does not give the hardest workers in their company health insurance.Save America boycott Walmart they ruin all communities that allow them in.

I hope when Obama is president we will improve our own goods and services and Walmart will go out of business due to the number of small businesses cropping up all around the country. The same way Walmart caused closing of small businesses every where they opened. What goes around will come around. Karma. Go Obama!
