I hate this article. It offends me deeply. It implies that not only Adam but also all gays are not Christian or cannot be people of faith. That is a completely ridiculuous notion and it shows that you do not know what you are talking about. It shows complete bias and ignorance. I personally would not be a member of any church that would not accept gays as members or anyone else for that matter.

I for one believe that this is a singing contest and as such, Adam should win. Many people have brought other issues to the table, and the anti Adam sentiment has in part been crass, vulgar, ignorant, religiously judgmental, bigoted, and hateful. Adam is being called too “theatrical” and too “flamboyant” in many cases as a euphemism for a sexual orientation that Adam has not announced. Many times evil things are done in the name of religion. The attacks on Adam are an example. When Simon and others talk about Adam being fearless, it is not just his performance it is his character, when he did not just have to sing his heart out but to stand up to social injustice and stay strong. Adam did not just have to be better then the rest, he had to be twice as good as them to stay in this competition. My family friends and I will be voting tonight until our fingers are numb, because the best damn singer should win!

This is possibly the worst mud slinging job of all. Down to the final three and you throw this garbage out there? Not only ugly but so biased. Judges pimping Adam? What about you? He's so far and away the best singer that the only defense people like you have is to sling some mud. Puke!

Several weeks ago videos were posted on youtube that have made Jewish bloggers wonder if Adam is Jewish. He's seen singing in Hebrew at an event that typically Jews would attend. That doesn't seem to enter into your discussion. Maybe he's very religious but Jewish. Maybe he's very religious but Wiccan for that matter.

Who cares?

The idea that he has not said that he's gay is absurd. What straight person actually has to state, "I am straight"? You have to have zero gaydar to not simply know this is a well adjusted young gay man who isn't pretending to be someone he isn't. He's also the best singer and entertainer by far.

America, do the right thing and get rid of Kareoke Gokey tonight.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help but giggle when reading this article! The idea that Adam Lambert could lose the competition because America does not know what his religious views are is hysterical! hahaha! Oops, sorry there I go again. And the fact that he may or may not be gay is even an issue is just absurd. When did being a Christian or not become a prerequisite for being talented? When I majored in Music in college, my voice coach never once asked if I was gay or straight. Maybe he should have. Because although I am a pretty good singer, I am nowhere near as talented as Adam Lambert, probably because I'm not gay...right? Darn thoughs gays, how dare they flaunt there talent on National Television! Don't they know that American's prefer to watch mediocre heterosxual? hahahaha!.......there I go again!

I think that these kinds of articles are going to appear more frequently as we reach the final eliminations, It is an attempt to sway the voters away from voting for the most obvious winner Adam. But from what I have been reading in all the blogs and comments this attempt to slander Adam just before the final vote is going to result in an out right voting war. The Adam supporters not only are in the majority but they are fired up because this has now become more than just a talent contest, it has become a symbol of good verses evil, about standing up for the rights of those who are in the minority ie,gays, blacks, Jews. Adam is both gay and Jewish, and you would have to be blind, deaf, and dumb, not to know that Adam is the most talented the best singer perhaps in Idol history. So this final attempt to bring Adam down is turning this TV show into to a symbol of good verses evil. It is now taking on mythical proportions as the talented Mr. Lambert who sings like an angel and is still humble about it, is pitted against Gokey. the diabolical screamer, and darling of the hypocritical do gooders who talk about love but do not seem to understand the concept,

We humans must be vigilant to resist mob mentality based on hate. I saw the musical "Parade" this weekend. It's about a white Jew from Brooklyn who got (it's a true story) lynched by a Georgia mob of "Christians" in 1914 because he wasn't like them. And unfortunately there are countless examples from long ago to today of the same sort of thing happening. Resist hating others because they're different. It will be a shame if winning Idol depends on ones involvement in a church. How many times have we seen ostentatiously religious people who turn out to be un-Christian in their hearts. Number of hours spent at church is not a valid criteria for judging someone.

This is a singing competition, a reality show, we don't have to bring up religions. God says we should not judge anybody, so just please judging Adam, he never really admitted anything, I'm really getting sick of this, aren't you guys bored of his sexual preference? I, a "devout" Christian (it's almost embarrasing to use the term "Christian" anymore, perhaps "Jesus Follower" is more appropriate), am a HUGE fan of Adam. I don't care if he is or is not gay--nobody should. And, he could, indeed, be a person of faith. God loves him, and so I will too. We are only commanded to love--not judge. He is the best vocalist I've heard since Freddy Mercury, Meatloaf, etc. I put him among the TOP rock vocalists we will ever hear. I can't believe he had not been discovered before AI.

This article is RIDICULOUS! I am a 63 year old Christian that LOVES Adam. Personally I don't consider Dancing With the Stars a "family" show. If I had young children I would never let them watch it because of the lack of clothing and suggestive dances which children and teens don't need to see in this "lack-of-morals-and-values world" we live in. Adam acts like a gentleman. I have never seen nor heard of his doing anything or saying anything that children shouldn't hear or see. He's gracious, humble, generous. I take these as good qualities, ones to be looked up to. Yes, he's confidant, and rightly so. He's the best ever Idol and I will be having withdrawals not being ale to see and hear him on a weekly basis. I have health problems and Adam helps me forget them and feel good for a while. I think we are fortunate to have been blessed with a voice that only God could give us.

It makes as much sense to judge religion in a singing competition as it does to rate conservative Christian theologians on their vocal abilities. Respect for talent is respect for people, creativity, and gifts --- and they all come from the same source.

The San Diego News Network ran an article today where 3 local opera stars evaluated the quality of Adam Lambert's voice, and gave it outstanding ratings. They know what they're talking about. He's the star, no matter the genre.

It would be a travesty for this competition to award this competition to anyone else; they just aren't in the same league. But fortunately, he's already proven his phenomenal ability, and if such a miscarriage of justice takes place, he'll still be the star, go on to a fantastic career, and Idol will lose credibility. At that point, all of the judges might as well call it quits, since to my knowledge, none of them are particularly qualified to judge a religion contest.

I love how when people say something is "family friendly" it implies that being family friendly means there dan be no gays or reference to gays. Every family has somebody who is gay, even if they think they don't that person probably hasn't come out yet. Can't family friendly also be gay friendly?

It would be very very sad if Adam lost this because of his sexual preference. He's by far the most talented performer ever to appear on the show and he certainly deserves to win.

If the point of the article was to create useless controversy, you got it. I feel stupid even commenting on it. You expect objectivity from AI fans while at the same time promoting prejudice (gay?? non-christian???). Knock it off. Newsweek should do better than that. Or not...it seems. Articles like this raise more questions about your perception of things than any latent prejudice that we, as viewers, might have about any particular contestant. Lambert will become - or already is - a 'world idol'. The others might be too. Whether they succeed or not will depend only on their merits. No one gives a rats ass what his religious or sexual affiliation is. His demeanor is kind and humble, happy and very pleasant. If you look back at the past eight seasons of American Idol, you can clearly see that the 'idol part of the title is most exaulted in Adam Lambert. In previous seasons, people with talent came forth and some of them have gone on to success and some have of wilted away. Adam is, and has always been, in a class of his own.

I hate to bring up the over-used comparison, but it’s just like comparing Huey Lewis to Michael Jackson... Frankie Vallie to Elvis... Michael Martin Murphy to Freddie Mercury... The Beach Boys to Lennon & McCartney. .. Most people who make it in the music industry are talented people. Only once in a while do we see someone who shines so stellar that they just completely dwarf their competition. In Adam Lambert we see the potential to not only be an entertainment industry success, but we see a star! We see a true ‘American Idol’. We see what could possibly be the reason that this show was created... for someone who has such amazing talent, someone who has worked themselves to the bone for years, since childhood, to go on and know the adoration, love, and compassion of millions of fans around the world by simply being himself

I’m sure many of your readers remember how they felt as a child, no matter their age, when they first heard their ‘idol’ sing. How long has it been since you have seen a true idol emerge? This is our idol – our time.

I can’t imagine Adam Lambert not winning. I’m sure that regardless of this contest, he will go on to heights unimaginable. I just don’t think that the millions of fans across the world could even begin to express the kind of sadness and betrayal they would feel if he lost this competition for these reasons. Although that’s a lot of pressure, I think Adam has already proven that he is the winner. I just hope – really truly hope – that the anti-hype of the fanatical persecuters on the Internet aren’t enough to destroy this for Adam and for the world.

The premise of your article is insane. Why can only the far right "evangelicans" be considered religious. Anyone who has taken the time to google Adam and some of his you-tube performances prior to Idol can see the duet he did with a lady in his synagoue singing "The Prayer". His voice is angelic and indeed very prayerful. I guess being Jewish doesn't count as being religious. Who would have thought? I am a 58 year grandmother who adores Adam. I never watched Idol prior to this year. I happened to be flipping through the channels and landed on Idol when his "Satisfaction"performance came on. I got chills and played it over and over. I can't get enough of his performances, old videos and any news I can find on him. I have not felt this way about a singer since my high school/college days and following the likes of Grace Slick, Janice Joplin, Jim Morrison and some of the other greats of the best music ever performed of the 60's and 70's. I set an alarm to be one of the first on the phone to buy my tickets to see Adam perform at the Idol concert in Portland on July 5th. I feel like I am watching a star being born, one who will have a great future and who will make an impact on the music world for the rest of my life. Go Adam!

Adam Lambert is definitely the best singer to date on American Idol. His vocals are out of this world - he is one major talent. Even though I live in Prague, I follow him closely. It'd be a pity if Christian voters didn't vote for him because of his sexual ambiguity and dressing. One should not discriminate against that - I'd like to think that they are capable of openly voting for the best singer on the show and that they are Christian enough to be open and understanding and non discriminating of people who are different. As a Christian, I'm so sick and disgusted by the way the extremist intolerants have become the self-appointed spokespersons for my religion. (Just as I'm sure that Muslims are equally disgusted by their own freaks). I just hate the fact that these "Christians" have made a mockery of the basic tenant of the religion: love of our fellow humans, ESPECIALLY the ones that are the most hard to love. I love Adam Lambert. I love God. Here's the kicker: GOD loves Adam Lambert too and at the end of the day, God would be far more displeased by the hatred shown to his children than by anything Adam Lambert may do in the privacy of his bedroom.

Thank you for your insights and I think they are valid. I, however, would like to believe that we are growing beyond such division in the conversation with the majority of Americans. We elected a black man to the presidency, a man who never once made his race an issue. As Obama never said, "I am a black man running for president," Adam has not allowed his sexuality or religion to be fodder for discussion of his Idol-worthiness. I realize I am comparing situations of disparate gravity, but both hold a mirror up to our culture and our tolerance and acceptance of differences.

Each man desires to be evaluated on his gifts, so given the change in consciousness in our country over the last few years, I hold out hope that the majority of Americans who are fans of this show will choose a winner based on his talent as an entertainer, not because of his religion or sexual choice.

The percentage of Americans identifying themselves as Christians is 75%, Yet, it appears that we are being marginalized, especially by the media. Many Christians are criticized because of their beliefs. Who are these Christian extremists that Westwingpotus is so disgusted with? What have they done? Why are they called extremists? Have they every strapped a bomb on their backs and blown people up? They are entitled to their views. Most of them are good tax paying citizens who love their children. Aren't there worse people out there? Is Miss California an extremists because she and her family believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman? Isn't she entitled to her religious convictions?

If some people do not vote for Adam Lambert, so be it. Many people will not vote for him because of his gothic like image. There are many little grannies out there that like Danny or Chris. I personally like Adam, but the other two are very talented men. Let us not blame Christians out there because a young man might not win American Idol.

She initially LIED about the nude pictures...then she claimed there was only one nude photo...miraculously more titty pics of her fell from the sky. Why did Vanessa Williams get ostracized and oustedb from her crown; yet she gets to keep her crown for the same misconduct...there is a double-standard that is not consistent...I believe that defines hypocrisy. Yeah, she claims to be pro-family and knows (in her head) that marriage is defined as one man and one woman...blah, blah, blah...somehow her ACTIONS are not lining up with her words...something is not right with this picture...at all...I was taught that morals also had to do with modesty and decency...Carrie Prejean ain't what she says.

Qidisrupt, Miss California was initially criticized for her convictions, not her racy pictures. She was asked the question by the judge. Why would a judge ask that? She did not volunteer her opinion. She answered it truthfully. It was the judge who was out of line by calling her a "dumb b**ch. After that, the media started digging and her pictures were discovered. What a coincidence. Donald Trump let Miss USA Tara Conner retain her crown after she was seen drinking while underage. She tested positive for cocaine and was photographed kissing Miss Teen USA. Donald Trump set a precedent on forgiveness. Miss California has admitted that she used bad judgment when she had those pictures taken. Condem her if you must, but her past mistakes does not mean that she has given up all of her rights to have religious convictions. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. The churches, temples and synagogues do not restrict their membership to only saints.

It is sad that some people are making a decision based on the possibility of Adam being gay. While I am not pro-gay, I have respect for anyone with this kind of talent, as Adam has. He deserves to be the winner. He has what it will take to be a star. There was a lot of potential this year, and it was tough, but I believe Adam has the skill it takes to become a star. I am not a young person either, but I believe Adam has the most talent. Kind of like David Cook and David Archuletta. I am a roman catholic christian as well. I attended Catholic school my whole life. I find this article offensive and Newsweek editors should have thought about what they let this guy Ramin print. I love Adam Lambert, he is the best thing on American Idol. If he does not win he will still be as big as Carrie Underwood. He is extremely talented and a pleasure to watch each week. It has nothing to do with "chrisitans" being offended by Adam. If he loses, I know ALOT of people are finished with watching Idol in future years. Me included. This article is rubbish.

I don't get what has everyone's undies in a bunch... the article isn't judging - just making a very rational, (and clearly accurate) observation - that part of the 'vote' is inevitably based on the likability of the person and whether people feel they can relate when they perform. Adam is hands down more talented (the article states this) but Kris just comes across as a 'wholesome American-pie guy' - which, as much as you can cry home about it, is what families with little kids are into. So cry cry a boo-hoo. Kris won. I don't see what's offensive - the author wasn't expressing homophobe views, or saying that a Christian deserves to win - but in the second to last week when Danny was eliminated, Seacrest said only 1 million votes separated 1st and 2nd place... and as Kris was clearly second at that point, who the heck did you expect to see Danny's votes go to? Come on people!

this is in reference to the article from newsweek and the comments made by the different people about "christiandom vs. gaydom". Unfortunately, it is still a problem in this country, and christians can whine all they want but they still do not accept homosexuality and they can say that doesn't interfere with their votes on Chris or Adam.....BS!

I am a gay man and realize that Kris was the most talented and best "idol package" and I voted for him even though I wanted to be loyal to my "gay brother", Adam. Gay people understand logic and how to make decisions not based on biased for whatever reasons. That's something that Christians haven't been able to do and probably won't ever be able to do.....too brainwashed.

I'm sure that Adam being gay played a huge part in him losing and I'm sorry for that, however, he'll do just fine. Kris was the deserving winner last night.

See - I don't think it really mattered that Adam was gay though... and I disagree that Kris was more 'talented' in terms of vocal ability. Adam's voice is a freak of nature - almost too good - but I honestly think his real strength is in the total of his 'showmanship' - but I don't know that I'd want to buy an album of his just to listen to. It's too 80's big-hair-band screaming for me, as amazing as it is. Kris is more mellow, and easier to listen to - and because of that, more contemporary. Christian, gay, whatever. It comes down to who will sell more records, and I think Kris has a voice that, although not as ranged, is more suited to what's on the radio now. Adam is going to have a long career too - but I predict his strength will be shows and tours, not as much in platinum-hit albums.

I am a Christian and thats why I voted for Kris!! Please!! I love Adam like most of us we feel he is a incredible gifted singer (oops! that gift in my opinion/belief came from God-maybe he should take it back-maybe God did not know he was gay) IRocked in the 80's and loved what Adam brought to AI!! However, at the end of competition I voted one time all season and that was the finale and for Kris.I can see buying his CD if it is well written,I kinda got tired of the same songs Adam was singing. I just liked Kris's songs better at the end.In closing, for all of you that label the religious side of this as "Christians" vote there r alot of non-church going people who have issues about that lifestyle-churches would be overflowing with no seats on sunday if they said they were Christians. But they sit quietly and allow people who lifes are lived by their beliefs/values and what the Word of God says to us.Although I do not embrace their lifestyle, i also dont embrace alot of heterosexual lifestyles as well. In the end, God gave me a choice to believe or not. My choice is for Kris/ Christ. I have gay coworkers and they are great people and they know i dont agree but we treat eachother with respect/and agree to disagree. I've posted on your other blog, but I'll post on this one as well. I think every little factor you can come up with influenced Kris winning over Adam. For some, it was Faith, for some it was a conviction against homosexuality, for some it was genre preference and for others it was looks. The reasons vary as much as the opinions and mindsets differ of the American public. I doubt that there is no one specific reason that people voted for who they voted for. I agree, Ramin with your "An The Winner Is" article. All of those points come into play. One thing that I appreciate from Kris is honesty and transparency. I would say that all the cyber-evidence clearly says what Adam's orientation is. What I find sad is Adam's unwillingness to "own it". It's not a trick question: "Which way do you swing?" I think during the top 13 party, he said it was done in the name of art. . . art imitating life, I guess. I just believe that when you are soliciting a national vote, the voters have the right to know what kind of person are they voting for. Non-disclosure brings up character issues, as in what else is he hiding?!

I just wonder if you writing an article about it before the results came out was, how shall we say, planned to do your part in influencing the outcome.

To me, it is obvious from reading your article that you were doing a bit more than objectively reporting. I think your distaste for homosexuals reads out loud and clear from here, And that's fine, be as disgusted as you like, but don't slide it into your tone in a Newsweek article.

Like other gay people, Adam didn't deserve you pointing out his downfall, nor did he deserve to be 2nd. And in case you're wondering...yes I am....straight.
