It obviously hasn't occurred to the writer of the above article that Kris Allen won because enough people like his singing better. To me, Adam Lambert was a horrible, shrieking mess of a singer. Every time he sang (shrieked!), I had to turn down my volume. And don't think I'm old or religious, because I'm in my early 30's. I'm not religious, and I love rock and roll. But Adam Lambert just sounds awful. He's not just high pitched, he's off pitch, not to mention whiny and sometimes nasal. I love David Cook, and I love Robert Plant, so I have a broad array of voices I appreciate. Adam Lambert simply sounds like strident crap. And by the way, those overly emotive eye expressions of his are sooooo phony. Yuk!

I like your points, but if you use religion as a positive with regards to getting votes, you must also use it against Kris, which could make it a wash. Equally not voting based on sexual preference can go the other way as well. How many voted for Adam because of his sexual preference?

I think voters saw a long journey for Kris get better and better, whereas Adam was a finished singer from day 1. Kris was a much more compelling story.

Whether or not his screeching egotistical interpretations of every song he attempted made him more of an artist, I'm still on the fence, but as for being a "rock god," hardly. Yes, he may be a tad unique for the idol stage, but in the world of rock, he could barely stand his ground. Using sexual preference or religion has nothing to do with this American Idol upset. I've watched from day one and Adam stood out like a sore thumb. He is a rock star. Poor Chris can't hit a note. He appealed to the Jack Johnsons fans and the rest of the new wave of kids that prefer his kind of music. Adam's voice made the hair on my neck stand up in certain moments. He's a rocker through and through. This was an upset for American Idol. Simon Cowel called it the winner deserved to be Adam.Whether you like Simon or not he makes the show and is brutally honest and totally right. Guarantee we'll see more of Adam Lambert in the future than Chris who? Really kinda sad and disapointing ending after you've been loyal watcher all season.

I think Ramin's article is an extremely objective analysis of this Idol season. It was fair to both contestants and treated neither one disrespectfully. I began the season as an Adam fan but became saturated with a too-rich repertoire. In the end, Kris' sound was just more melodic, sustaining and enjoyable to accept. I would buy Kris' music and attend his concerts. I hope Adam has a long, prosperous career, too. The Music Goddess abides with both of them. But she cooks for Kris.

Many are trying to find a deeper meaning in this vote than I think really exists. On paper, I would be someone who would support the gender-bending liberal person from the West Coast given that he might be more aligned with my personal ideals/morals. I would vote against someone who might be defined as devout Christan because I would be turned off by the differences in our social beliefs, However, my musical tastes and admiration fell squarely for Kris and I voted for him. This is a talent/singing contest that ultimately appeals to each viewer differently. Adam is an amazing talent but having been a viewer of AI for a long time, I feel was hurt much more by the fact that the producers/judges fawned on him than because he is gay. There may be those that voted against him because he is gay, just as those who voted for him for the same reason. Stop making this more than it is. I didnt take into consideration for one minute who or what they do with their personals lives. I voted for who's music and interpretation I most appreciated. Heartless was what won me over.

"So what went wrong?" Nothing went wrong. What happened was the people of Arkansas won it for Chris. Arkansas cast 38 million of 100 million votes. So Chris only needed 13 million votes from the other 49 states combined. I suspect the average Arkansan voted over 1,000 times last night. Fox interviewed one guy who had already voted over 6,000 times in the first two hours. To win Idol you just need a dedicated fan base, with unlimited text messaging plans, and the savy to use the available technology (I'm not saying how we did it, but it was perfectly legitimate). Sorry Adam....you are probably the better singer, by Chris is the better all-around artist, and we just liked him better.

Did the article really call Adam 'the best singer ever' on Idol? I'm sorry I have to disagree. Please harken back to the first season. Tamyra Gray was a better "vocalist" than Adam. Carrie, for all her fame & accolades is a better "vocalist" than Adam. I think before you use the term "vocalist" you need to understand what it means. As for the outcome, America voted. Kris won. Danny's fans probably helped. And based on what Idol is supposed to find...the best singer (aka: pop star), Kris is it. Long term, Adam will have a phenomenal career on Broadway. Robbery. Pure robbery. I'm taking comfort in the fact that Kris probably needed to win Idol much more than Adam did to have much of a career. Adam can sing everything. His range is great. He will be a star recording artist as well as a star theatre/film artist. I'm 47. Kris is along the lines of many of the singers in the early 70s--Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens. I grew up on Motown and the very early rock of my parents. Never bought a Kiss or Led Zeppelin record. And I can say this: Adam is the most talented artist Idol has ever had. The vast majority of scientists, who study sex and sexual orientation , think that it is. The Bible is not science and it is not fact. In any case, we live in a country where there is supposed to be a separation between church and state. I'm African American, and I know that most black people don't see sexual orientation as biological for the same reasons slaveholders thought black people should be slaves: bigotry. You have to remember that the Bible has been used as validation for every type of discrimination on this planet, including racism. We were the children of Ham and were put here to serve white people?. How do you now reconcile the history of our people with consciously discriminating against another minority group?

As for some people voted for Adam because he is gay. Probably. But bear in mind that gay people make up about 10% of America's population (a little less than black people make up), and I know many don't watch Idol at all. Gay votes could never make up for votes cast against no more than African American vote tallies will ever aggregate to more than white vote tallies.

I am ok with Kris winning because he does have a good voice with amazing rearrangement on his song selections. However, America did not really pick Kris if you think about it. Almost 100 million votes came through last night. The votes were likely split between Adam and Kris with Kris winning only by a few million votes at the most, so like Kris got around 50-53 million votes. Over 38 million votes for Kris came from Arkansas, his state. You do the math. Aside from Arkansas, every other states likely pick Adam to win. How ironic that everyone thinks Kris actually won. It reminds me of Season 2 Finale between Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken where Ruben won by the same margin with most of the Southern states pulling for Ruben. I personally don't like Clay Aiken, but he became the most successful male AI contestant after Chris Daughtry and Ruben almost disappears entirely only to come out this season with a few lousy songs.

This was the first season I've ever watched AI and it will be the last. How sad that America "votes" with their religion and ignorant biases against gay people. Just shows the tweens of America are no better than their elders who voted BUSH twice. While that caused America to be the laughing stock of the world, this shows its ignorance.

The WINNERS are votes of HATE, votes to spite, votes to bring down the deserving, votes against talent, votes of ignorance, votes of homophobia, votes of prejudice, bias and bigotry.

Add votes of alienation due to AI judges, Katy Perry, EW Cover and bigoted fans.

Though the judges' praise of ADAM is deserving, it backlashed.

They should have taken into consideration the feelings of other fans.

Hell hath no fury like fans scorned.

This is a number competition. It doesn't necessarily mean Kris has more fans. Fans of other contestants simply voted against ADAM. What's overwhelming are votes of HATE.

Congrats Tweens! Congrats Danny's fans! Congrats Vote For The WORST - you won.

This is NOT a singing competition, NOT of talent, NOT of the best, NOT of popularity why ADAM is robbed BIG TIME of being acknowledge for his genius.

Adam is the best and I have supported him with hundrerds of votes each week. But I think Adam is better off to not have won. He can have the pick of recording labels who will let him control his choice of music. The Idol winner is stuck with a recording contract that controls everthing about the winner's life for at least the first year. Can you imagine Adam having to releas that atrocious Kara song for his first single? Yuck! I bet Adam has already received hundreds of calls from artists and recording labels vying to take him on. He will now be able to chart his own course. He will be an international star and will change the face of music for many years to come. I cannot wait to see him in concert in Portland on July 5th. Kris is good and will do well for a while. But there are many artists out there with his style. He will get lost in the shuffle and his career will never be as big as Adam's.

Its simple. American Idol proved this time around that it's merely a popularity show and not a talent show. I don't like to undermine the previous idol winners because SOME of them definitely deserves to be there and their success proves that. I'm sorry, but the guy just does not deserve the title...

Regarding the article above, I want to drive a few points as well.

1. Regarding the judges, they DO, especiall Simon, help their favorites in the finals. But after watching last night's show, they can't really do much because both Adam and Kris sang songs not fit for a finals week. Nothing inspirational of the sort. David Cook would have crushed them both a million times despite his lapse in last year's finals as well.

2. The new judge does not know what Idol is about. Too much technicalities but no absolute advice. Come on! Stop it with the Artistry!!! Is it artistry to sing with Bikini girl???

3. David Cook is also a rocker. I think rock artists can also hit it big there. But I guess, the advantage of DC is that he's also a pretty boy...

4. Religion should not even be mentioned in these kinds of situations

5. America is not ready for a "queer" idol.

Well, I will not say something anymore. I am just too annoyed. This season is a BIG BORE!!!

I still can not believe it........ all the while I thought it will be Adam who will win. I have been watching AI and this is the only season that I really had a favorite from start to end. Yes I really love ADAM. His style is so different and he has the uniqueness.... It is just so sad that America did not see this in ADAM. I still believe that ADAM will be more successful that Kris.... The style of Kris is so common......... he could not even reach a high tone........... I am just so disappointed.

Computer systems can be setup up to ration phone time to all fifty states and out of the country calls. Idol should consider setting it up. It's wrong that people from Arkansas were able to hog the phone lines. The phone lines are already tied up by the time the show airs on the West Coast. I almost gave up calling in because I was not able to do so until 11:48 pm and had other things to get done. I hope Arkansans are able to buy 38 million records. Because this person has heard enough folk music in her day to not be at all interested. That's the only type of music, besides maybe country, that will go on a Kris CD, because he has no range. His voice is as good as mine--a decent street singer's voice.

Never was it more in evidence than when both were singing with Queen and Adam sang rings around Kris who should win. He was great with KISS. Poor Kris couldn't even hold his own with Keith Urban. I like Kris but tonight's show (which was wonderful!) did nothing but display the disparity between the two singers. If this show was truly about vocals and performance then Adam should have won. You have to wonder if the gay/Christain/teen thing didn't have quite a bit to do with Kris' win- and what a shame. One has to hope that Adam will go on to outshine his first place winner just like Clay Aiken has done. Sometimes America makes mistakes when they vote. We've certainly seen that in action more than once. After listening to Kris struggle with that last song last night, knowing it was going to be his first single and STILL vote him KNOWING he didn't have the ability to sing just shows there's something wrong. REALLY wrong. REALLY, REALLY wrong. And I think what was wrong is that he shouldn't have been there to begin with.

Adam was absolutely ROBBED! No question about it and it is sad that what it boiled down to was the Christian vote. When Danny got voted off, his votes went to Kris. The media was brutal on Adam stating, "Is America ready for a Gay Idol"...that was just plain stupid..! Adam is the total package, vocally, performance, stage persona. Kris can't top Adam in any category. We have many Kris's out there! He is very average and we don't need another Nick Lachey, Jason Maraz or James Taylor. Adam is surprising, entertaining and vocally just incredible and gives me chills every time I hear him sing. He sings with such feeling and emotion! Is is so refreshing that I haven't seen a talent like Adam's in over 30 years...A tribute show last night? Absolutely because American Idol knew he wasn't the title holder...But you know what...Kris will do nothing! Adam will come out of this in the spotlight! Kris will be the afterthought! Adam is the star! And I can't wait for his album...I'm buying it and never watching American Idol again! The show has no credibility to me after that disaster of media press and nationwide Christian right voting! Shame on America for getting this WRONG!

I think Kris has talent, but I think he won because of two things: First, people got tired of the judges crowning Adam the Idol since the beginning. Second, I think Kris picked up a lot of votes from Gokey supporters. I don't think he will be another Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, but I also don't think Adam will be either. American Idol is past the time when it could be a star-maker. What counts is where the two are 2 years from now.

For me, my support for Kris is not because I am Christian or because the judges prematurely annointed Adam Lambert or because of any other of the lame excuses cited for Lambert's loss. I supported Kris because he was every bit as talented as Adam in a less brash and flamboyant way. I felt that Adam was best to be "viewed" than to be "listened to", which does not necessarily make him a better singer. His shrieking was cool but...can you imagine an entire CD or a whole concert of it? Most of all, I became very fatigued early on with Adam-disciples who declared that he was "the best EVER" and that anyone in disagreement was "tone deaf". In many ways, I felt that Adam's followers cinched his loss (for me) more than any contribution made by an Idol judge.

First of all, I am a Christian, and I don't hold it against Adam for his homosexuality. One of my most favorite past Idols is Clay Aiken (I have everyone of his cds). The fact is your sexual orientation does not have anything to do with your singing talent. Secondly, I did vote for Kris and not Adam because I believe Kris will do better as a soloist than Adam. Adam should be the lead singer for a rock band. I believe that Adam is a very talented vocalist; however, his constant screaming is what got to me. Screaming every now in then in a song is ok depending on the song, but he gets too carried away. On the finale, Adam did such a beautiful job on his first song because he didn't scream then that was that..had to scream in the second one more than once. I disagree about Kris not being to able to perform with Keith Urban. He was great just as Adam was great with Kiss. The only reason why people are saying Adam out sang Kris in "We are the Champions" is because Adam is very loud while Kris isn't. You could still hear Kris and he did just as good. During their Ford commercial, you could hear Kris moreson than Adam, they were at the same tone level, and Kris out sung him in that area. No doubt, these boys are both talented individuals, but I think Kris was the right choice just because of how he fits into the today's music.

Adam Lambart was not robbed, he simply wasn't voted as the winner of "American Idol"! Now as far as Kris Allen goes his rendition of songs showed more depth based on his ability to rearrange the song to his talent. I remember a songwriter turn singer "Issac Hayes" who was not a great vocalist in the sense of a "Ella Fitzgerald" or "Aretha Franklin" but he had the ability to re-arrange a song to suit his vocal skills which wasn't bad. When I think of Adam I think of a male "Patti Labelle". Patti has mad chops and a range that is out of this world, but she is not a consistant million selling artist like a "Janet Jackson" who's range is far less powerful and vocal prowness is no where near Patti Labelle's. Kris Allen" will sell far more CD's than "Adam Lambart" based on one (1) definitive difference and that is Markability. "Kris" can sing Pop, R&B and some Country. People will buy his CD's because he is a fusion of an arranger/singer that have a unique style but very familier. "Adam Lambart" will possibly be a member of "Queen" and then go on to have a long solo career in the "Rock" Genre. But if "Adam" decided to lower his octive vocal power and not use the "Over-The-Top" dramatics in each song he sings, then he can be a major player in the R&B or Pop genre for years to come. Otherwise he'll have to head to "Broadway" where his acting ability can mesh with his superb vocal talents in an "Musical" written especially for him to shine.

Adam Musically is in a whole different league with a vocal range and style and will be an Music Icon. Kris is a really nice guy. All of his songs while sung well will always sound the same. American Idol is supposed to be a Singing competition but obviously not a majority of the public watching has Musical training. As it was evident when and I know I'm not close on the spelling Sanjaya just kept hanging on I mean come on!! I think it's time to watch a show with a mautre audience following.Maybe they need to move American Idol to the Disney Channel. I'm done with this show. Adam Musically is in a whole different league with a vocal range and style and will be a Music Icon. Kris is a really nice guy. All of his songs while sung well will always sound the same. American Idol is supposed to be a Singing competition but obviously not a majority of the public watching has Musical training. They are both winners and great singers in their own rights. I can't help by wonder if Adam doesn't come out better in second place. After the idol tour he can record with whoever & whatever he wants, he is not tied to American Idol for a year. Chris Daughtery has done better than most of the first place winners (except Carrie). I enjoyed this years final show better then any other years, there were some awesome performances by everyone. Congratulations of Kris and Adam.

Both Kris and Adam are very talented. Adam has an outstanding theatrical voice. I see Adam in big splashy Las Vegas shows with all the beeps and whistles or I see him on Broadway. Adam may have confirmed this the other night when he came down the staircase wearing a long black coat. Simon was right, he looked like he was from Phantom of the Opera. If Adam goes the Kiss route, he won't be making records anytime soon. Thus, Adam sold himself as a theatrical performer. Idol is not about Broadway and Las Vegas. Its about making CD's that sell and Simon and Clive Davis are looking for talent that can sell CD's. Kris won because he consistently grew throughout the season and has a voice that will sell lots CD's. Kris is a talented songwriter and arranger also.

I think any discussion of homophobia or Adam being gay is totally out of order here. Whether Adam is gay or not, it has no bearing on his talent or theatrical abilities. Perhaps the flamboyant gay community should tone it down and blend in with normal society, but then again, they wouldn't get noticed and its all about them getting noticed in showbiz.

I think you are right in many of your points. Some of the things the judges say are just ridiculous and almost turn you off of the artist they are obviously promoting to the top. It would be nice to see the judges past constructive critics without having to destroy the other singers. There were several this year worthy of a recording and music career. As for the gay thing....why is it that you have to put people who disagree with this lifestyle in as a "hater". I don't agree and I did not hate Adam...I just did not prefer his style over Kris. I also felt he had more pitchy moments and was not as versitle a musician. Every one thought Ruben would outshine Clay but he didn't and he did not outsell him either. What is amazing is the person who has done the best , most record sells, most awards, is Carrie Underwood...not because she is a Christian but because her music style married with her ability rocks. We have to be careful not to make the rockers the best and always think that America was wrong....your allowing your preference to shine through

I joined this site just to say that #7 is NOT how I feel. Kris sang NOTHING memorable, and I am from Arkansas (originally).

I only recall Kris' re-make of Kanye's song because the judges made a big whoop about it. It did nothing at all for me. In fact, I watch American Idol while doing other things in the house. Only when ADAM was on did I stop what I was doing to watch, and re-watch, and scream, and watch again.

Adam Lambert was the CLEAR winner. I have no intention of watching American Idol again, and have cleared it from my DVR series recording list, period. I cannot even give Kris Allen props because he is a boring little boy with mediocre talent who should have been voted of LONG ago. They are NOT equals. Adam is far superior and everyone who values talent knows this.

Adam is a STAR!!

I agree with the exception of number 7...on my ipod, you'd find rock...not "soft" rock. I think for Kris the biggest thrill might have been performing with Urban...and let's face it...he's no Keith Urban. I believe Kris is one who actually had the million more votes last week. One of the reasons the judges have been pushing Adam so much is because he needed more votes to pull it off. Certainly, he is very talented. But between his screaming on the high notes and sticking out of his tongue it made it hard to enjoy his overall vocal skills. I, for one, simply enjoyed Kris's style of entertainment. While, I enjoyed the theatrics that came with Adam's songs that's part of the problem it was more like they belonged in a musical or with a group like Kiss. That's certainly fine but I guess I thought it was not what American Idol was all about. He'll do fine, maybe not have theh longetivity in the rock world that some would have you believe but his career will be fine.. Kris, has an oportunity if marketed well to do very well. He truly deserved the win and people need to recgonize that they were both very good and deserving of recognition but in the end people vote on who they truly like to listen to the most, who they would go see and buy CD's. That is how they voted and more said they'd support Kris than did Adam. That's it.

We live in a richly diverse community - rich people, poor people, gay, straight, bi, christian, non-christian, black, white, asian, etc. MOST of my friends & I voted for Kris. I think he's a down to earth individual with tons of talent. That being said, Adam is a very talented guy also. I personally didn't care for his screaming & seemingly arrogant attitude. The majority of my friends who voted for Adam are straight - they just love to rock. I actually thought that they were both equally talented in the technical sense, but am glad that Kris won!

Somebody out there should start a petitions to intervene about this

I do believe that while both Kris and Adam are very good singers and both will have successful careers in music, that Adam was the better singer. I would of liked for Adam to win and he had my vote for weeks, but in the long run I wonder if not winning will be better for Adam. I think this is a very creative young man and now he will be able to carve his own path in the industry. I also believe that we will see Adam as a actor. I know that that was never discussed on the show, but there is a performer there, not just a musician, and if the movie industry does not see the potential there they are idiots. My thoughts are that by the time I am posting this blog that Adam has recieved enough phone calls and offers to keep him very busy for quit some time, this journey has just began for him. As one of his fans I am anxious to see where the rest of this journey will go.

As I read these comments, the fact that the Adam supporters have such big ego's on their musical expertise and then lash out at Kris and his supporters in such a negative way speaks volume to the fact that Kris deserves the win. The kind of people that support Adam are actually real losers. More people liked Kris, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter. Quit trying to make them feel they know nothing. It is a personal taste ust like what color you like or the clothes you wear. They just differ from the Adam supporters. Accept it and move on.

Very interesting comments from all. My belief is simple. Who will generate the most revenue for those that will be profitting in the short term? Probably Kris.

AI has nothing to do with talent, it is simply based on money, popularity, and greed.

Let them figure out how to implement single person gets single vote, then we might see a more balanced result.

I was about to argue that Christianity and homophobia didn't have anything to do with it, just a lot of teen girls in the South who don't like Rock and don't have anything better to do with their time or money than to vote endless times. However, many of the previous commenters have made the point that the only reason they voted for Kris (or against Adam) was that Adam was gay and was not blatantly Christian. Too bad, I would like to think it was just talent and the mood of Southern teens, but apparently there is still a lot of hate and ignorance about what America really is and should be, a shining beacon of equality for all and a secular country where your religion does not matter when it comes to success.

I voted for Kris for his stage presence, good looks as in Brad Pitt mouth and those puppy dog eyes...and his voice range blows me away. They both were so nice to one another during the contest. Their families, although so different, made me so proud to be an American. (do people really watch J.Springer?) I am proud of them both. They will both have great carriers in front of them. I believe that Kris is a great representative of what the core and the majority of Americans represent. Adam's style/fashion attraction...makes him look like a rebel rocker lead singer. (I remember when Elvis was "different" and I know it was his singing from his soul / and stage prescence that appealled to the masses). Adam..I could see him in a band like Queen. Ms. Writer..Why do you put Christian families down and say we hate gays..I know about 20 gay guys..I am a gay magnet they say...I am a Christian..I truely love my friends gay or not. You bashers need to quit "hating"...get to know a true Christians and you'll see we don't like the sin...but love to love people who have good hearts. Your analysis misses the primary factor for why Kris won (probably because the statistic wasn't yet available)... According to AT&T, 38M of the 100M votes cast came from the state of Arkansas. It didn't come down to sexual orientation, religion, singing style or even vocal talent. Kris won because he was the Arkansas favorite son - and they voted for him more than any other community has ever done. That said, he's a talented singer who comes across as the little brother you wish you had. Regardless of who won, both Kris and Adam will be well-served by their Idol year.

After I posted my first blog I read more of the others and again I just wanted to point out that just because Adam did not win AI, in no way says he will not be a success. I was a big Daughtry fan also and look at him now, and he was voted off 4th from the top. He has also said that it worked out better for him. To all the Adam fans I say just wait for this concert tour to be over, we will get to see a more genuine Adam in the industry because he will be in control. This is in no way the end. As for Kris, I take nothing away from him, he is a very talented young man who will do very well. I do agree that the tween vote probably had a lot to do with this, as well as the judges comments. Maybe I am to much of an optomist, but I really do hope that neither religion or sexual preference had anything to do with the outcome, it is about singing, not personal life style.

With that said, I don't feel the need to comment on why or why not Adam didn't win because I prefer to take the high road and give Kris my congrats for captivating teenage girls all over the world with his "oh my god he's so cuuuuuute" smile (which is why he ultimately won of course, anyone can see that, if you don't believe me look back at past episodes and hear the shrill piercing screams of clearly 14 and under girls whenever his name is called.) But lets face it when it comes to somebody rocking your socks performance wise? Well look at the facts. Kris Allen, performed with Keith Urban. Woop-de-do. Yes it was catchy, but who other than the country/pop world has heard of Keith Urban? Not many. But Adam... performs with Kiss. KISS people!!! Who hasn't heard of Kiss? The judges regarded him as the second coming of David Bowie, but he is a mere facile imitator who has no real style of his own. Note: to all future Idol wannabes (and the judges they'll face): just having a desperate, all-consuming desire to be famous does NOT make you an artist.

Kris, on the other hand, comes across as very genuine and aw-shucks, but you have the feeling that he's so scared of offending anyone that he'll never be anything but bland. I wish him well, but I'd never buy any of his records or attend one of his performances ... unless I needed a good nap.

Summing up: a mediocre performer beat an overly theatrical one, and the airwaves will be clogged for a while with "No Boundaries, " a song that is so dreadful that Congress should put it on the banned interrogation techniques list.

Adam's voice is a thing of beauty and I love his individuality. He is the only artist I've ever heard that matches the talents of the late, great Freddy Mercury. So --- when QUEEN actually appeared on the stage, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven (I only wish Adam had been able to solo with them...Kris was no match with or for QUEEN). Adam did Freddy proud - Adam does Adam proud. Kris is talented, but Adam is a superstar. American Idol winner or not, Adam will be the winner in the long run ... his talent and horizons are limitless.

OK, so I agree with alot that is mentioned above. I am saddened that Adam did NOT win, but he is iconic. He will make platinums on his albums. Kris, congratulations that you did win, but you were not a better singer than Danny Gokey, why did he make it to the finals and not Danny? This is another upset, worse than with Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. I am a Christian and I enjoyed listening to Adam. Adam is an ARTIST when it comes to music, great performer and entertainer like Carrie Underwood. So why did he not win? I am still pondering this myself. Do not take this as I did not like Kris, he is a great guy, southern smile, sweet personality, young married and in college, kinda the all american boy next door, but he cant perform and make music like Adam OR Danny. Thee only time I got excited about Idol was when Adam was performing. I didn't even know Chris Allens' name until last week. As a musician myself, I totally appreciate Adam Lamberts multi-talents. Plain and simple - More people liked the music Kris produced over the stuff Adam sang. I think Adam is a gifted singer. I don't, however, like his take on songs. I found his twist on Johnny Cash to be revolting and was quite thankful he didn't go that far with the rest of his entries. He's talented - just not my cup of tea. Kris, on the other hand, is more of the Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Rob Thomas style singer. A style, if you'd look at the charts a moment, that does very well at the moment. That's not ballad singing. It's relaxed-pop-rock.

As the christian mother of teenage daughters, I feel that in the long run Adam will have the best career - he hit every note of every song he attempted and has a range this is seen so seldom as to be amazing. I personally could care less about his religious or sexual preferences as it is not my place to judge him on these areas - he has to face whatever greater power he believes in for these choices, not me. I agree that Kris is a down-home sweet boy - however his musical range is very narrow and he continually hit flat & off key notes. This is supposed to be a talent show - and I think the numbers of cd's sold will tell the story. I personally have all performances of Adam's, except one on my Ipod and none of Kris's - I also have several of Danny, Allison and Anoop as well. It has been great to see a show grow in talent & performances each year. The finale guests were unbelievable - and very enjoyable as well. Rock On American Idol!

This is the first season ever, that I have watched American Idol - and probably the last. The problem as I see it - is the voting process. 100,000 million votes?? Come on how many viewers does that translate into?? The only fair way for the voting - is ONE vote per telephone/cell number or text number - PERIOD. Adam is by far the most talented person in the competition PERIOD. Danny, Allison and even Matt, in my opinion, where more talented than Kris. Don't get me wrong, Kris, is probably a very nice person, just not that talented. Yet Kris kept coming in under the radar every week, and made it into the final 2 - go figure?? Even Kris said that Adam should have won the title. Time well tell who well be the biggest star. I would buy cd's done by Allison and Adam, mainly because they are so talented, from ballads to rock.

Again the gay card is being played, come on it's 2009!! There are some extremely talented gay people out there i.e. Elton John George Michael Nathan Lane etc. Sexual orientation has or should have nothing to do with talent. I agree with most of this article. However, my problem with Kris winning is not that I think Adam was better. It's that personally, I dont think Kris should have been in the final. He's a good singer, but all of his performances were very singular/same in nature.

Kris Allen was the second, or even THIRD best singer in this contest. But that's the nature of the AI beast. It's a lot like the Oscars. The best performance rarely wins. It's all about who gets the most votes.

How else could you explain Taylor Hicks winning and Elliott Yamin finishing ahead of Chris Daughtry in season five?

I have to say, that Adam was the front runner for me until I found out that he has been performing since he was a kid. that ruined it for me. He definetly has ALOT MORE stage presence, but I thought that this was a contest to find a new commer. I loved Danny and Adam from the beginnig, but Kriss won out for that one reason for me. I voted for Kriss, and I wish him all the best.

I'm a catholic, but Kris being Christian and Adams being gay had NOTHING to do with it. Adam screaming in every song and kriss was very melow "there are more mellow listeners than hard rock I think". It bothers me to hear and read how everyone thinks Adam got robbed. They are both very talented, but diffrent. Adam is an excellent singer, has a genuine presence on stage and can hold his own with Queen which is no small feet. Kris is mediocre at best and pathetic with Queen and his solo the best performer was the guy next to him who gave an outstanding performance who threw himself into the song with his voice and body, while Kris stood next to him taking the easier piece and moving his foot outside the tempo. However, there is no screen for bad taste. I'm sure that Adam will be successful in his career and Kris will bump along and after a couple of albums will be relegated to, 'what ever happened to?' reunions of Idol winners.

I agree with most of the article above. However, maybe the most important point was missed - the fact that many people found Adam's screaming to be a bit like fingernails on a blackboard. Just because he has a strong voice, range and many costumes doesn't make you a great singer. Dylan doesn't have what's considered a great voice yet he is one of the greatest singers of all time. Adam will make a lot of money singing for a Guns and Roses / Kiss / Queen type of act or singing Andrew Lloyd Weber crap on Broadway. Either way, I won't be listening.

Everyone is forgetting what American Idol is. It is a place to find and showcase potential talent. Okay, so the best person does not always win, but the truly talented go on to be successful regardless of whether they took the top honor. All of the contestants that made it to the top five were extremely talented. Anyone of them could have walked away the winner. At some point it does become a popularity contest, but so what? All of the contestants that have proven themselves have gotten exposure and made contacts in the music world that they probably would have never received had it not been for American Idol. And we the general public have been fortunate enough to have been extremely entertained, engaged, amused and sometimes angered and disappointed. If that's not reality tv at its' best, I don't know what is. In any event, American Idol once again has exposed us to a group of fantastic young, talented adults. Some we will remember and some we will forget, but time will be the judge of the truly talented, not just votes.

Really I could have seen any of the top 4 winning they were all so good. But of the two finalists I thought Kris was better. To me he showed more versatility. As I watched Adam throughout the competition I began to see a somewhat formulaic approach to his songs. While original in there arrangement, I could pretty much anticipate when the big, high, falsetto, tongue projected note was going to occur. For all Adam's greatness, to me he became a bit boring.

On the topic of religion, it strikes me that church music is a common thread among some of the better singers who have done well on AI (Danny Gokey, Chris Allen, Michael Sarver, and many others from past seasons who began their singing in church). I suppose it is because church musicians are challenged by having to prepare different music each week in various styles with the encouragement to sing for a purpose other than entertainment or stylistic perfection. I think that it builds a level of confidence that can be acquired other places too, but combined with the grounding that can come from being a spiritual person it really combines to produce a compelling performer.

That being said I don't want to take anything away from all of this seasons contestants,

I, for one, wa thrilled that Kris won. I felt like he was just as deserving of the title as Adam. I think Adam is a very talented young man and has great future ahead of him. I do not think it came down to whether or not Adam is gay. I think the people who were voting for Danny just simply switched their votes to Kris and that gave him the edge. I wish nothing but success to both Kris and Adam. Yes Adam will have more say in his music since he will not be under the Idol contract for a year. But that didn't seem to hurt Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. I think if you are talented you will be succesful no matter what.

I think America got it wrong or right. I think its just preference. I happen to think that kris sounds just like everyone else. Adams voice is so unique. He can make his vocals soft and silky or strong and exciting. His vibrato is outstanding and when he sang next to kris . . . i heard Adams nice range and high notes (which were SANG beautifully) In my oppionion Adam isn't screaming . . he can just project his voice very strongly. I also love the way he can blend notes together like honey. When Adam hit notes with perfection. Maybe his style isn't everyones cup of tea. But personally I would of liked to have seen the sexy, dark eyed rocker win. As far as Katy Perry is concerned lol maybe she just likes Adam. I don't think putting Adam down is gonna make you look any smarter or make Kris look any better. They are just two different people. I actually loved the fact that the judges gave Adam the praise he deserved. I don't think people got sick of him . . I think they felt he was safe. This is my 3rd year watching AI. Last year I was delighted David Cook won. The previous year I had been rooting for Blake the entire season, so I was a bit disappointed Jordan took the crown. This year I'm happy with the results; I thought Kris was shining with his abilities all along despite what the judges said. He deserved to win.

Every week watching AI my husband & I would wait with anticipation to see Adam's performance. Usually, the song would start out decent and then came the screeching. My husband and I would immediately laugh out loud and say to one another: "Rocky Horror". When the judges would review Adam's performance the critique was full of positive superlatives and gushing adoration. Again, we sat there shaking our heads, wondering what the heck the judges were thinking. It's not so much the high, bizarre falsetto of Adam's that grates my nerves (although it doesn't help), it's the nerve-wracking, nails-on-a-chalkboard screeching that I could not take throughout the season.

Kris' voice has a beautiful tone. I was left smiling after he performed. After Adam's performances my ears felt violated. I'm sure there are many out there who feel the same way.

I think Kris won because, although Adam is a wonderful singer, I could not see parents as a whole supporting Adams lifestyle. This has nothing to do with being homophobic. Most individuals are fine with whatever a persons sexuality is as long as, if they don't agree with it, it doesn't effect their world. Honestly, I wasn't even going to watch the finale because I figured I knew who the winner was and I wasn't happy about it. My favorite was voted off the week prior to the finale. At that point I was disappointed because while Adam is talented (I will admit that), there was an air of, for a lack of a better word, egotism. He has talent but I could stand to watch him because he was so egotistical and self-centered. I personally never got the feeling he truly respected the opinions of anyone including the judges. That is great in that business but when you are trying to get votes to win a competition you really do need to be genuine. For me Danny was my favorite because of everything he persevered through in his short life and he had a unique raspy bluesy kind of voice. Allyson I thought had a very bluesy raspy voice as well. Only she was a little more rock. I was disappointed when she was voted off too.

Also the writer of this article took a really poor route if you ask me making a reference to race barriers and sexual orientation barriers. That sickens me. Don't bring that kind of politics into this. I could care less about your color and/or sexual orientation. The larger number of viewers I believe are in this same boat. Adam just never seemed appreciative. He and Kris both will have careers ahead of them. I also believe that Danny and Allison will too. I wish them all luck!

I absolutely loved American Idol this year for one simple reason; ADAM LAMBERT!! I think myself and most of America agree. He was the most talented person that has ever been on American Idol by far! I gained some faith back in the show after last year. Then along came Adam, and I loved to watch the show every week! But no more! I honestly believe that it's not the people who vote in the next American Idol, but the producers, creators, whoever of the show that vote in the contestant who they feel is the most marketable. Well, they definently got it wrong this time. I can not remember a single one of Kris's performances, nor any of the songs that he sung. He was boring, generic, and will quickly be forgotten! I absolutely hated watching his ugly mouth twists every week, you have to agree that he had the ugliest mouth ever! The guy can sing, but no better than the guy in my church choir. He paled in comparison to Lambert! I agree with the member who said, he couldn't even match up to Adam's performance last night, and with Queen! What a joke! As I predicted yesterday, Kris won because he got the Danny Gokie votes at least 70/30%. No-one should be surprised! I would have bet on the result big time because it was very predictable. And, Kris is obviously more the American Idol than Adam. Maybe in 20 years someone like him will win!

This is such bullshit !!! I watched this show all season to see this result ???? Adam was WAAAAAYYYY more talented than ANY of the other contestants. A/I needs to look at the way votes are called in. Something is VERY wrong. Even Kris Knew something was wrong. This will do it for me spending any more time watching this show. This guy got screwed big time. Everyone with a brain knows he got screwed. But in the end, he'll make a ton of money and not have to deal with the A/I crap. Look at the music Cook is doing,, please, he's way better than what they have him doing. Adam has shown what he's made of by the way he reacted to his loss. He's a CLASS ACT and we'll see a lot of him soon. As for Kris, not so much. This is a repeat of season Five. WRONG person won. America Idol will lose tons of viewers over this last injustice. If they want a teeny bopper show, more it to Disney........ What a bunch of Crap. Winning song. Horrible !!!!!

Between the two young men I believe Kris exhibits the true American Idol. Adam was amazing but an American idol he misses. Has Simon said Adam will be a international star because he main genre is hard rock. His road to be a rock star was already being paved when he auditioned for Idol. Whereas Kris's singing is more subdued something that most of us could listen to more than a couple of hours. He is more soft rock than the hard rock.

Both singers were very very good,but from my point of view i believe adam should have won. reason being he took me way back, and being as i grew up loving heavy metal among other tunes, i really enjoyed his performances a little bit. i don't care if adam a homosexual. adam's rthym and love of music is going to sky rocket adam into stardom.

Having been through every season of Idol, agreeing with some, disagreeing with some and always going for the token rocker 'cuz that's the way it is for me, I have come to the conclusion after last night's so called 'upset' that I am not unhappy with the decision at all. Now Adam has the exposure he needed to go out and do HIS OWN THING. I actually think he came out on top by NOT getting the title since now Kris will have to fit into the American Idol mold. Adam is the one who colors outside of the lines. By the way, a comment on the "rockers don't win Idol" statement - so what's David Cook? Ahem, rockers DO win Idol! And those who don't go on to sell more records than the actual winner (Rock on Daughtry!)

The one & only upside to Kris winning....now Adam won't have to record that horrific piece of schmaltz written by Kara & her co-writers. Don't get me wrong, I like Kris - although both Danny & Allison are better than he is, IMHO. And I don't believe for one second that Adam's supporters were 'lazy'...I think it was the combination of the judge's comments & a conservative Christian backlash against Adam. Too bad one's sexuality plays any part of American Idol & too bad someone's religious beliefs will get them the vote. I'll be buying Adam's CD as soon as it comes out (like I did with David Cook's), but I won't be buying Kris'. Why? Because, while he is talented, he sounds just like all the rest. Oh...and I'm a 50 yr. old married mom!

I'm still beyond confused where people come off saying how great of a "voice" Adam has. Maybe it was the hex he sent you all through the TV airways via is guy-liner or glittered face. Come ON, if you believe that screaming with rhythm is real talent then maybe that's why you don't understand that the true 'artist' (to use the words of the most useless judge EVER) actually won. Adam simply belongs on a theatre stage cause thats where his voice will only ever shine doing musicals like 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'. Can you all HONESTLY say that you can imagine a song by Adam to ACTUALLY play on mainstrem radio?? Didn't think so. The music world is changing and believe it or not, raw, pure talent/music that is calming and sends you to a relaxing place is really making a comeback. (Think John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Justin Nozuka, Callie Colbet, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, etc..) Watching Adam sing was just plain ANNOYING! My channel often changed once he just started screaming and sticking his tongue out to try to hit those "high notes". Notice the quotations. Adam should have been voted off when he DEMOLISHED Johnny Cashs' 'Ring of Fire'. Given the list of 'songs/artists that just shouldn't be touched' (the worthless opinion of Kara had told one of the girls earlier in the season that The Police were one of those groups) don't you think something should have been said? Had you of closed your eyes and knew that was a man singing, you probably would have thought your TV locked into a gay porn scene. I'm sure Johnny Cash was rolling over in his grave! Adam tried too hard, was given beyond more credit then he deserved which I'm sure made him believe he had it in the bag, and from the moment he chose which 'group he belonged with' (remember Top 5 moment Kris and Matt / Danny and Allison) his cockiness spoke louder then the words he screamed every week. His whole 'act' did nothing for him but make him the first loser.

GRANTED I didn't think Kris was going to get very far with other male voices like Danny and Matt, but the underdog truly prevailed. I was totally hooked on him when he took Kanye Wests' "Heartless" and did it acoustic style. Now THAT was talent. Does anyone even remember what song Adam tried changing up? I don't. His re-take of that song was by far better then any of the same performances Adam did over and over every week. Fact of the matter is, Kris is raw talent with his own personal influence while Adam just tries to "sing" songs with his "voice"; just making him redundant and ridiculous to watch.

Yes, the better "artist" won this year. And good for Kris!

ALL things being considered: folks its TV!!! Ratings!!! We ALL know who the talented one was. Even the short gymnast won this week. She wasn't the best, we all know that. RATING WON EVERY WEEK!!! How many of us know the number of votes they actually won by? None of us.

I could care less about a boy wearing black eyeliner or fingernail polish, his sexuality or his spiritual beliefs. I still get my McDonalds coffee at the Senior rate! The boy was good and he will have a wonderful career. Even Chris was good, really in his own right. BUT, the system will never reveal the truth and we all know the truth will set you free!

I'm stunned by the AI finale...Kris...really?? I like Kris, I think he has a great voice, but compared to Adam he's just ginger. Adam has an amazing range, he hits every note every time. Sure there are some songs he sang that require a different personnal preferance, but even if you didn't like the interpretation of the song you have to admit he can still sing it. This competition is supposed to be based on talent, nothing else. If you can't have a non-biased opinion and vote based on talent ONLY, then you shouldn't vote at all. Those who didn't vote for Adam soley because he may be gay, or he wears eyeliner, or he's not Christian, or whatever other reason you have dreampt up, have completely compromised the integrity of the show. It's NOT a popularity contest people! Regardless, Adam will definaly have a bright future ahead of him...Kris...maybe not so much. Let me put it this way, I have never even considered going to one of the AI tour shows...NEVER. But this year I was considering it just to see Adam live...and if there were a concert with just Adam and Allison, I would deffinately go! You rock Adam, don't let AI bring you down!!

Ok, let's see... Sarah, you hit the nail on the head on all 7 counts. While I think Adam probably had more talent than Kris, I think that Kris was the best choice for American Idol. Let's face it... Over the course of the season, the contestants were given many different genres to sing. Adam chose to take a song from each genre and "make it his own". Well, if making it "his own" meant turning every song into something that fit his style, I don't think his performances showed nearly the range of different types of songs as Kris did. On rock night, Kris did not try to take a rock song and make into a pop ballad. But on country night, Adam took a country song and turned it into something unrecognizable, certainly nothing resembling country. I think the reason each show has a different theme is to show us just how versatile each contestant is. I think Kris did a pretty good job of sticking to the genre and showing his versatility whereas Adam did not. There is a difference in making a song your own and totally changing it. Adam's total lack of trying different styles of music really turned me off. The only kind of music that I know he can sing is hard rocking metal. As far as I'm concerned, I vote for the contestant that I like the best regardless of sexual preference, race, or religion.

Of course Kris won, he was voted for by all of the people numbed by talentless pop celebrities. Lady Gag (sic), Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Fitty Cent, Chris Brown, the list goes on and on. These kids can't be expected to appreciate someone who can actually sing beyond one note without the help of digital enhancements, studio tweaks, and as much publicity as they can garner. They haven't been exposed to it in a long time. As for the whole Christian vote, even Kris was prescient enouggh to know it was going to be to his benefit. He said, "I hope it's not just about the Christian vote, I hope it will be about the music." He seems like a nice kid and I wish him well, but I can't wait to buy Adam's first CD.

I am a Christian,therefore I do not lie. In my opinion Adam was the clear winner. I do not prefer his type of music,but the question is ....Who was the best?

By far, hands down, without a doubt, ADAM had the better of everything. his pitch,his range, voice,stage charisma,his attitude,expression,persona,ability,dress,he seems to be as good if not better than many seasoned performers.

I look to the future and see him being inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. This kid is a superstar in the making.

Like I said before, I would not buy his album, i do not listen to that type of music. Yet, it is obvious that he was the better vocalist and all around performer/contestant.

There were so many people who judged him on his lifestyle etc, But,my Christian friends you like i can not judge another.

The bottom line was....Who had the better talent, not who met your expectations as a human being! morally or in any other way.

I wish this young man a bright and successful future as I do Kris also.

Look out World here he comes...like it or not.

Way back in the beginning, I spotted Kris and told my wife, he would win. There was something in him that reached out and said that to me. Both Adam and Kris can sing. Hell, the top runners this year were all great. Adam did get some "Wows" out of me on occassion with his high notes, but Kris got a few as well with his renditions. Too bad neither of them could rendition that damn ending song. If I was Idol, I would not waste the time to put that on an Cd. Unless its with that Asian fellow from a few seasons back. He probably would make a hit out of that. Sorry to the writers, but I do not believe Im alone on that. In Conclusion, Both deserved the win, and in reality they both will win. Kris just gets the trophy.

WOW...I can NOT believe Adam Lambert did not win...I was shocked and it was totally Anti-Climatic...even Kris thought Adam should have won...American Idol and it's voting system has lost ALL credibility. The entire contest was upside down and ridiculous because you have a young demographic voting based on everything but talent and voting hundreds of times. Also... You would think in the year 2009 that sex,religion or whatever ...would not influence people and they could be objective and not predjudice. The deal is, Adam's screeching voice got old. He is awesome as an entertainer but he belongs on Broadway or a Queen like theatrical band. I couldn't take a whole CD of his voice like that. I loved his slowed down versions of things, but the screaming was old on every song.

Kris was a real musician, singing, guitar and piano. I didn't know he was religious and I could care less. I knew Adam was gay the second he moved, who cares! don't blame religion or homophobes for his loss. Find a new gig blogger......it could be we just weren't that into him!

I think you forgot the #1 reason, Adam in the last couple of weeks got the "big head" attitude and believed he had it all wrapped up. That cockiness comes across poorly to people. I was pulling for Adam but when I saw the change that fame and fortune would give him I changed my mind. I began pulling for Kris who is modest and humble and genuinely has a good heart. I don't think fame and fortune will change this much in Kris and that to me makes a true winner.

Marketability, you touched on slightly, has a lot to do with it. Kris could be marketed to teens, pop, country, and more. It is obvious that Adam fits in one genre and one genre only - rock. So where would you invest your dollars?

At any rate, they are both winners, their names are out there and they are on their way. What I did not see this year (unless I missed it) is a week where they write thier own song and sing it. That is very telling because if you are a singer and a songer writer you are a much greater threat and talent.

Why do so many people think that Adam lost votes simply because he is gay? I believe Adam was the most talented, but I voted for Kris simply because I preferred his type of music and don't really appreciate Adam's. I am a Christian, but Adam's sexual preference was certainly not a deciding factor in whom I voted for. He is unbelievably talented and week after week I was amazed at his performances, but my choice for AI was Kris. Why can't everyone just be happy for these two? They both have incredible careers ahead of them, and honestly, does Adam seem upset to you? Great guys, both of them.

Ok. How long would any of you Adam fans put up with the screeching shrill ... one record, maybe two? I totally think it would have been another Taylor Hicks incident if he were to have been crowned be the reigning Idol. Adam puts on a great show, I think he's a nice enough person and I do believe he has great talent. BUT, the fact of the matter is that without seeing the show, most people would not listen to the music. His voice wasn't that great (unless you like Banshee's or the occasional Greek Siren). Two weeks in a row as we had our top 8, I LISTENED without watching and THAT is what made up my mind that Kris was my Idol. Kris was consistent from the start, giving us great performances in his own style (think back to disco week for one of many examples) and I firmly believe he is worthy of the win! He's a nice person as well and I just think FOR ONCE America didn't rely on the hype to make a decision. Kris did not have a camera attached to him from audition day 1 like others did, he was low key and preformed great week after week to undeserved mediocre reviews from the judges. I think Kara (believe it or not) said it best the other night: Kris has the ability to draw you into the music, to make you think like he's singing directly to you. THAT, my friends is a gift all in and of itself deserving of an Idol crown!

Oh, FYI: I'm not a Christian but I am gay and I don't allow other's opinions to help me formulate an opinion. So how does my vote fit into your theory? It's not an upsetting win ... not even comparable to the Ruben/Clay season or Daughtry's disappointing cast-off! Both Adam and Kris will do well after Idol. I both did a terrific job considering all the talent Idol had this year! It wasn't like either were getting sympathy votes for being blind!

Point being...if so many people were upset that Adam lost ... upset enough to go to any online poll today and say that Adam was robbed ... ask yourself this: Did I do all I could to make him the winner? Did I vote? You better believe I did! And I got Kris AND Obama, so I feel like a winner too.

Why do tweens get the right to say who wins the show. Between them and the conservative right HATERS of anyone who is not Christian, the talent show is nothing more than a joke. So in one month Newsweek boasts of Christianity's decline and death in America. Now Newsweek lists Christianity as a top 7 factor in 100 million American votes that decided the winner of American Idol?

Hmmmm, so which is it really, Newsweek? Ya can't have it both ways. You really have some conflict resolution to do.

As for me, I think Adam is an extremely talented vocalist. Even so, I did not care for his over the top screaming antics, and yeah, I don't go for the eyeliner and black fingernail polish either. Kris to me seems kind of an ordinary Joe however, he seems to also be steadily improving as time goes on. His version of 'Ain't No Sunshine' was extremely good. Adam's screaming would get on my nerves fairly quickly.

As far as what becomes of them both - well, that is up to Adam and Kris. Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Kelly Pichler have done really well for themselves. But whatever happened to Reuben, Fantasia and what's his name that came in second to Kelly Clarkson? It's up to the individual.

To me, Danny Gokey's version of 'You Are So Beautiful' sounded better than the original. I am impressed with how he has been able to overcome such devastating tragedy as the loss of his wife. Danny could also have an outstanding career. He is a class act and a winsome guy.

Kris and Adam should be complimented for treating each other with respect and class up to the very end of the show, unlike a lot of posters on here.

I really want to STRESS that I do not think Christians out there voted against Adam because of his sexuality - that is a bunch of nonsense! My best friend, who is a Christian, voted for Adam because he spoke to her and she just loved him from the beginning.

Stating that Adam lost because of "conservative Christian backlash" is a COP OUT and totally upsets me. Adam lost - period - end of story. Why does blame have to be placed on Christians? Get a new scapgoat!

As a fellow musician, I can tell you that both Adam and Kris are very talented. Yes, Adam has an amazing range and more of a strong voice, but even to me those high-pitched notes he chose to put into every song got both annoying and boring. And his appearance would be appealing to only a small segment of the population, whereas Kris wouldmappeal to a broader ranger of people, esepcailly the people most likely to vote on AI. Adam definitely wouild have won if he would have toned down his appearance, used his range to complement his voice rather than dominate every song with high notes, and appear more likable. And for those of you think who think that Kris does not have a great voice - you are sorely mistaken. He has an excellent mellow, soulful sounding voice which is very commercially pleasing, He will do well. I do think America chose the right contender to win.

Kris appealed to a wider range of viewers, it's as simple as that. As talented as he is Adam wasn't going to draw many votes outside his limited rocker style. Adam wasn't going to get the majority of country voters, the soft rock voters, the pop voters. Kris's appearance garnered him more votes as well. Voters turned off by a guy wearing eye shadow and feminine in nature went with Kris. The majority of young women went for Kris as well based on appearance. It all comes down to appealing to more than a limited group, When both are clearly very talented as Kris and Adam are it's not a vote on talent alone, it's a vote on who appeals to a wider variety of those voting. They may call it a talent show but it is more than that. I for one was not surprised at all because I saw it coming. Adam's base wasn't going to be big enough and he was going to turn off more voters than Kris for different reasons.

I said after the show on Tuesday, Kris has won this. Adam is a great singer and will definitely have a great future. But Kris is more marketable...as a American Ido. History tells us, the audience of American Idol are not drawn to rockers...just look at the past winners. I think you pretty much hit the nail right on the head. people just don't get it. Both these guys were likeable, and both could sing. However, when you drop a known Christian from the competition, the truth is - his votes are going to swing one direction or the other. When the fans heard that Kris and Adam's votes were only 1,000,000 a part, with 88,000,000 votes cast? that hasn't happened in seasons past. Judges crown their winner so early, that fans don't even think they have a chance if their pick isn't the one "crowned" early. therefore, they don't even vote, but this announcement gave them incentive to vote. notice, they didn't announce this season how far thye were a part. Truth is, that Kris could have blown Adam away in votes - who knows? Otherwise, they usually brag about how close it was. there are no idol winners or losers that are going to make it big with good songs, and therefore they should have input. it is unfair to have the producer pick and song, the contestants pick a song and then a writer to pick a song that could be more geared for one of the contestants. If you noticed, they lowered the key for Kris when he re-sang this song in the finale - and it sound 10 times better. How difficult is it to lower a song by half a key or a whole key - a major blunder on behalf the of director on this one (rehearsal)! I just want to say "I TOLD YOU SO" I posted on line that Kris would win this contest. he's much more appealing - easier to listen too. BY FAR, Adam was a great performer, but that doesn't sell records, just like Taylor Hicks - his album was a bust in sales. he was picked for his popularity alone. GO KRIS! - and good luck Adam!

They have perhaps lost their touch with what the majority of the fans like. maybe, they should consider leaving after next season if they don't get better. My 25 year old daughter, who has performed on stage (singing/acting) and who has a vast range of musical tastes, wanted Kris to win for the same reasons someone else here said: She could listen to him all day. She could not listen to Adam all day. I asked, "so does that mean Kris is 'elevator music'?" My thoughtful daughter said "That's an interesting way to look at it." Kris isn't elevator music. He does evoke emotion. I do like his style and wonderful amusing smile. I wouldn't listen to him all day. I wouldn't listen to anyone all day, not even Adam. (Well I have listened to Carlos Santa all day because of that amazing guitar sound.)

Adam has one of the best voices I've heard and I'm a 65-year-old rocker female who was on a permanent guest list at Bill Graham’s Winterland for decades. Adam's voice is as pure and magical as was Queen's lead Freddie Mercury, which everyone who knows music obviously gets given that Adam (and Kris) closed with Queen. Adam's voice also reminds me of Jon Anderson of "Yes," who also had a pure voice, but may not a big enough personality. And Adam reminds me of some of the better Phantom of the Opera "phantoms," (which Simon also noted). We would SO love to see Adam take the lead as Marius in Les Miserables (in addition to Phantom). Kris will do well. Some people will be singing along. I'm sure I would leave one of performances thinking "great show, cute guy," and he does make me believe he is singing to me, but so do quite a few other vocalists, including Joe Cocker with "You are So Beautiful."

Adam belongs to the world. His is a voice that will carry coliseums. If anyone knows Broadway producers, will you kindly pass that along. We will travel to any country in the world to see Adam on stage. I'm positive I would leave one of Adam's performances quite speechless at having been in the presence of such an amazing voice. When Adam hit the stage with the makeup, etc., I hated all the visual distractions. By the end of the show, I couldn't care less. The voice is mesmerizing.

I love American Idol even if I don't agree with the voters. Great show!

Well All I have to say most of the winners except about 3 out of the 8 have really done anything with their careers. It's usually the ones who got kicked off or were second who have done a whole lot more. All I can say is I would never buy Kris's albumn- ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ snoresville , may be a one or two hit wonder for the Tween market but that will be about all. I thought he should of been kicked off a long time ago. Sing-????? I don't think so, off key espoecially the estranged endings he does- tries to hard.

But Adam, watch out becuase one of his concerts will be Fabulous! I can only imagine it would be like going to see Cher, Mafdonna or Bette! The Lighting, the singing , The costumes, the stage presence- over the top FABULOUS! I will runto go see him and I am awaiting his albumn for sure!

If you were, you would investigate why the results actually defy mathematics and statistics.

Legimate, pre-final polls, with over 10,000,000 vote samplings, had Adam with a 20-30 million vote lead THE MORNING of the final. Kris had to overcome this in just one day.

All your points are probably accurate - but the chance that Kris really did win are probably at least a million to 1.

Sour Grapes is defined as the lack of ability to accept reality. And maybe there is no hope that Idol will ever change to full disclosure, by independent parties. But no one has any idea of who truly won - when you have no transparent source of data and have no idea how many phone lines each contestant had.

The pimping of Adam argument has no logical basis for affecting a result. If it helped him - he would have won. If there was a backlash - it would have had to happen that 20-30 million decided to vote on that backlash in only one day.

spend your time digging into the fact that an outcome can be changed by auto dialing your opponent. It's sounds counter-intuitive - but auto dialing will not disconnect until the entire message is finished and the AI side disconnects. It is a brilliant strategy to work the system because it reduces your opponents votes.

This is the beginning of the end for AI - unless the move to full transparency.

I'm a conservative Christian. I talk to many other conservative Christians both online and in person every day that watch this show. So when we talk, we're "among family" if you will. If someone expresses a problem with homosexuality, they aren't worried about being labeled anything so they are free to express whatever they think. And I can tell you that in my experience, there were plenty of Christians voting for Adam and even those who voted for Kris didn't see any point in opposing Adam over his sexuality. It's a singing and performance competition, not a Supreme Court nominee and people get that.

It really comes down to taste. Some didn't get the avant garde interpretations of Johnny Cash songs and felt Adam screamed way too much. They aren't truly rock fans and many didn't vote for Chris Daughtry (another devout Christian) a few seasons ago either. Their musical tastes fall more in the Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, The Fray vibe and Kris fits that perfectly. Others said they loved Adam's more subdued moments like "Mad World", but that they didn't see themselves listening to a whole album of him cracking almost every song up to 11. They felt Kris's voice had more nuance.

Regardless of whether you agree with their assessment or get their taste in music, it's wrong to assume that Christians only voted for Kris because of homophobia or religion. I'm not saying none of them did, but a vast swath of Christians just simply voted for the style they liked better.

I voted for Kris for similar reasons, but I'll likely buy both of their albums. I think Adam is an amazing vocal talent. But Kris is more in my style range overall. I honestly couldn't care less about Adam's sexuality as far as this competition goes. He seems like a genuinely nice and classy guy and I wish him the best.

Adam is a good singer, especially when he hits those top notes, but not many people want to listen to a screamer. Isn't that why Danny was voted off....screaming. Adam can't play any instruments and he stated how others helped him change up the songs to make them "his own". Kris is overall a better artist. If you took away Adams make-up, nail polish, and costumes he would be just your everyday guy. If Adam practice a bit of humility and stopped acting like he already won maybe he would have had a better chance. People shouldn't be upset for either one of them, they worked hard to get where they are and America voted. Look at it this way Adam is free to do what he wants and I am sure that he will be picked up quickly. He doesn't have to answer to Simon Fuller or AI. Kris on the other hand deserves to win. He is focused, can play many instruments, can compose, sing and he is hot. I would predict that Kris will out sell Adam, maybe we should make that into a contest too. :)

Actually, the FOX station that reported that number (38 million) initially is retracting the statement saying they misreported and that AT&T doesn't divulge that information. 38 million votes from a state with a population of 2.3 million? Thats something like every man, woman and child voting 13 times. Get real and get over it. Kris had a broader appeal than Adam, plain and simple.

I'll tell you the number one reason I wouldn't vote for Adam, I had nothing against him and liked many of his performances even. But I get really really really irritated when the judges pimp a contestant the way they did this season. Not only did the judges crown him weeks ago, but all of the media did! You only ever heard about Adam on the E! channel, in magazines, or any of those mindless celebrity gossip channels or magazines. Even Katy Perry performed with a cape that said Adam Lambert! It wasn't a fair competition from the first couple of weeks and the way that the outcome seemed so imminent could have really tested the validity of the show. So I'm very glad that America voted against what the media was throwing in their faces! Hopefully the producers, judges, and other media outlets will back off next season and let America actually be the judge!

That is very true. i'm a conservative Christian and I LOVED Adam. Frankly, Kris is boring. It really does come down to whether you like Kris' soft pop sound or Adam's heavy rock style. A person is going to listen to the type of music they love, regardless of who sings it.

My understanding is that many misguided people voted for Kris because, basically, Adam is already a star. Say What???? The logic of voting for someone lacking star quality because the other person has it defys all sense. There never has been - and likely never will be - a performer of the magnitute of Adam Lambert on that program. He was beyond belief! Did anyone happen to notice the seasoned performer's responses to Adam? It was as if they welcomed one of their own. Kris was sweet - but mediocre. And the song of Kara's that they were forced to perform was torture. How the heck did that happen? She's not even a good judge let alone a good song writer. I'm not at all sure American Idol has any integrity left. In spite of the fact that the finale show itself was for the most part great, the final vote was a farce.

I've read several comments posted here and other sources so I have decided to write my own. When it was the Top 3, I voted via text over 300 times for Danny and Adam. I finally received 1 reply of receiving my *Vote* for each. Tuesday I voted via text even more for Adam in the finalé and I never received any reply of receiving my votes. I'm a Christian also but this isn't a competition on being judged by whatever your religion may be or sexual orientation. I'm one who has an *open mind* and accept people for who they are and if another believes differently than I do, then *you agree to disagree*. Many people can be religious and judge others by their belief according to their religion. That's not the same as *Christianity*! I read about Kris doing Missionary work and that's great but it doesn't factor into what *American Idol* is about. My entire family is musically talented so I do know a bit about that. Each week in the beginning I had Kris marked to be voted off. Maybe the ones he's been involved with of his Missionary work has cell phones and called or some other access. I'd always been able to get through before yet this time it seemed even when I'd vote for Allison also she stayed safe but Kris had been in bottom 3 many times where Danny never had until the Top 3 show. I loved his voice and artistry yet he got voted off while Kris had obviously the highest amount of votes? I knew then something wasn't right and remember reading about some site before that would keep lines tied up even if texting if you were voting for the one they didn't want your vote to get through. Danny and Adam seemed more likely to have been in the Finalé. They both are superb and unique in their individuality. This year's Top 10 are the best they've ever had. Ones who write of derogatory comments about Adam should be ashamed by stating their reasons of being a Christian. Jesus didn't judge others and that's what Christianity is. People should not allow their prejudices to influence a singing/performance compeition. I like Kris but if judging by performances of that night or for the entire season, then for whatever reason, Adam didn't win American Idol. Nevertheless, he will have more of an impact in the future and he will be remembered in many years to come. 'Live and let live'....

I live in Arkansas 30 minutes from Kris' hometown. Our whole family liked Adam but there has been an Arkansas Kris-Fest going on here for days. The FOX affiliate strongly promoted Kris, with poster and signs giveaways. And when Adam, Kris, and Danny visited their hometowns last week, Kris had the biggest crowds. There's a point to be said for "Getting out the vote." Kris had rabid teenage and tween fans in Arkansas who were willing to vote thousands of times. A 13-year old from down the street told me she texted for Kris 2600 times. Did Adam ever have that kind of fan support? One more thing: the FOX station in Little Rock always referred to Kris as the "good guy." I guess that means Adam was the "bad guy." Homophobia? I think so.

If Lambert had "nailed" the likes of someone like Katie Perry or Audrina Partridge instead of comparing nail polish with them, he would have won hands down. A talented, hot, straight guy would have easily won over the shy, married Kris. Even Kris said that the title should have been Adam's. I don't think he was being humble, he was being honest. I feel sorry for Kris because not only do so many people think he shouldn't of won, but he doesn't even think he should of won. He will have a tortured soul. He will have to wear that American Idol title like Hester Prynne wore the Scarlet Letter for the rest of his life. And worse than that, he will have to sing that horrible "No Boundaries" song a million times. Water boarding sounds good compared to that. As for Adam, he will be okay., he gets it. He has dealt with finger pointing, smirks, and rejection for years. It's too bad that a simple singing contest has become so personal.

I'm not sure why or how some can say that Adam is the most talented idol... or even as more talented than Kris and many others. He didn't even play any instrument. He also has given credit to his arranges. If ever, he only sang those arrangements. People may have seen he can only wail or scream. If Adam stopped doing those wailing, what will he be left with? His fashion perhaps? Kris has not even started doing the fashion.. if you add fashion to Kris, he would be more awesome than what he already was. I think Adam is talented but not the most talented. David Cook was better. David Archuleta was better, whose voice was fuller. I think Adam has great potential and is also very talented but not the most talented. Kris is the well-rounded, showed real talent by the variation in his song choices and performances, which Adam didn't really show. Adam didn't show his low range in vocals. He only showed emotion, which is good. He will still be a great artist. Only this time, Kris is the more complete package.. and for me, is more talented than Adam.

I am a Christian who voted for Kris - not because he is a Christian (I didn't even know that until AFTER I voted for him) but because I did not care for Adam's voice. There is no doubt that Adam is incredibly gifted. He made singing look easy. I appreciated his talent but did not enjoy listening to how he took every song and took it to the extreme. I also didn't like the "broadway" sound mixed with the rock sound. Each had their place but I didn't like it together.

I can't see how he can be praised as being so original when he did almost identical covers of popular songs as other artists have done. I think it is fine if he does this (shows research and inititive on his part) but give credit to those who really came up with the sound. Also, his look is a bit played. He looks nice, but hardly a fashion trendsetter.

I don't care if Adam is gay. That didn't sway me in the least. Please don't assume that everyone who voted against him is someone who can't separate what they believe from realizing what kind of compitition this is. I think it would have been wrong for me to vote for someone who I really didn't enjoy listening to - even if I can admit he is extremely talented.

Except for Kelly Clarkson the losers have always been more enjoyable and memorable than the so called winners. Personally, I say it's time for American Idol to retire. I definitely think the judges turned some folks against Adam, the praise was over the top! Adam is a special one, very comfortable in his own skin and in front of millions of people. Attractive to males and females, admit it guys, he's a handsome fella. I think most people who said they won't watch AI again are kidding themselves, it's a machine, an addictive machine that we can't get enough of. I was relieved when Randy finally pointed this out on Tuesday night by saying his performance was a little pitchy. Adam might be a better performer, but Kris clearly had a better voice IMO. One more thing. Danny is a yeller/screamer, but when he gets in the studio and someone teaches him how to sing without yelling, HE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME! This season American Idol was somewhat like the old Star Search acts where the audience only responded when the singer yelled and held a long note. This isn't what singing is about, anyway Danny will get the training he needs and then he will really be able to display that God given gift the right way! Same for Allison and maybe Lil. Then again Lil only sounded good at the first audition. I had high hopes for her, but in the end she really couldn't sing and neither could the blind guy or Meagan.

I don't think every vote for Kris was inspired by this reason. I'm not unhappy that he won. But, I was sick to my stomach with some of the comments I read last night. And, I do believe a there was a more than mentionable amount of this type of vote that occurred to give credit to the author's article above rather than deny it was a factor! I was seeing comments that the author was false in such claims - thus "LOL" at these people.

It was quite a surprise, I always felt Adam had the better voice, but somehow Kris managed to make you like him. He was a quiet, humble person, who in my opinion never gave himself much credit, which was one of the biggest reasons Simon didn't like him. Being humble in this world of inflated ego's is a refreshing quality. I just hope he can "handle" the mean world he is about to enter. Much luck to ALL the final 10, this was a great seaon and ALL OF THEM should be very very proud of their accomplishments.

I stayed up for the whole 4 hours voting non stop for Adam and only managed to get through a handful of times. my brother who was voting for Kris got through almost every time. how the heck does that work out? At Redpeppers: Yes, I know this is a singing competition. Still a talent though to be able to do other things. Like many already wrote or said, you either like or hate Adam's voice or way of singing. I guess, the vote showed it. Incidentally, many I know, including my family, preferred way Kris' way. Yes, he does have have facial expression, but that's how he sings. The voice that comes out is still good... Again, how you like a voice is relative. To some, it's good. To some, it's bad. Pair that with song choice, it may come as good or not... to some or few. Some of Adam's performances were really great like Mad World. But there's also the great performances of Kris like on Heartless. Maybe, one song was enough to turn around other's votes? Who knows. The results tell it. I don't have anything against both of them. I hope it's possible to make both winners. I would love to have Adam revive/join the Queen. I would love him to excel and have his own band, better than the Queen. Only that, on the last day of performance, on the Finals, people chose Kris' performance more than Adam. It could be because of the judge's preference of Adam, and they didn't like it... there could just be a lot of reasons or excuses... but in the end, the vote came in and was counted. More people chose Kris, and that's how it is. Relative way of liking his voice, but more liked it. Or more voted for it. Or some made a lot of votes for Kris, you know what I mean? Again, if only they can both be declared winners...

I personally didn't like Kris or Adam from the very beginning. But toward the end i was leaning more toward Kris, because, as far as musicianship goes, Kris is better. He can play piano as well as guitar and he has a more soulful voice that can draw you in. He's also more of a "real person" than an "image." Yes, Adam has great vocal ability and range, but way too much training to make him seem "real". And his image seems to contradict his personality. I couldn't care less about the gay thing (I'm gay myself) but I really got sick of those high notes ("here we go again" i would think everytime.) I mean, we got it in the beginning, Adam, you can sing really really high and really well..now show us something else, be a little more diverse. I think Adam would be great on Broadway, where his theater training will come in handy, but as a pop star? I just couldn't see it happening. I didn't vote for either one because I wasn't truly gung-ho on either contestant but when they showed Kris and then Adam back to back on Tues, it was obvious to me who was the least annoying of the two, and would therefore win. Congratulations, Kris! Now, conjure up a tiny bit of ego (right size of couse) and you'll shine!

Kris is good but does not posess the range or flexibility in genre that Adam does. Maybe I am wrong but II thought American Idol is a talent competition, which judges each individual based upon their talents. Not the talents or genre that you personally like. I may not like certain types of music but I can respect and appreciate a talented individual in each genre. Adam, at times, hit highs that were not exceptionally pleasing to me but Kris also had this deadpan sound that would seem like he was lost in the lyrics during some of his songs. He had a few great songs but anything outside of the pop/folk range seem to overwhelm him. Adam on the other hand could switch between soul/rock/alternative and so on with ease. In addition, there was absolutely nothing original about Kris, he was forgettable the moment he finished singing and sometimes during. I don't mean to bash Kris but he was not deserving to be the winner.

Here's the thing, I have been telling my friends all season that Adam's range and showmanship are in another level from the others. He reminds me so much of Freddy Mercury and when Queen came out last night I thought I was gonna die. He would be a perfect lead singer for them if they wanted to go back out there. I do think he was robbed, but I also think he will be just fine! He is the !st idol that I would pay money to go see!!!!!!!

It does not matter that Adam got 2nd runner up because now he is free to find his own agent and label. This gives him almost more of an advantage anyways. Look at David A. from last season, He is doing great as well as Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry. None of them won and they are basically more sucessful and talented then the person that beat them. So, congrads to kris for winning, but super congrads to Adam who is SUPER TALENTED and SUPER BADASS.

Adam was totally robbed. Not that it will stop him (THANK GOD!!) from a sky-rocketing career and many many years of mega super-stardom, but right is right. He deserved to win this. simple math. In all pre-final polls - Adam was ahead by 20-30 % on THE MORNING OF THE FINAL. That meant, in one single day, Kris had to pick up 20 to 30 million extra votes to surpass Adam.

There has to be an explanation for the anomoly - for any result to be believe. Taking all emotion out of it - there has to be an explanation to defy all odds.

my wife and I were both shocked that Kris got the title. America had it all wrong. Danny who came in third should have been first. He had stronger beliefs about faith, next in line it should have been Kris and the lastly Adam. We believe that Danny is a far better singer, he is smooth and can come on strong. When he appeared and sang with Lionel Richy he was to me the best. The man can sing with anyone, and he should have been the American Idol Star. I am 74 years old and have been watching the show since inception. The performance last night was outstanding, we enjoyed it immensly. Can hardly wait will next season Don Gold Pueblo Colo.

As a great-grandmother, a lover of good music of all types. (Lots of trashy pop music and performers out there, unfortunately.) I was astonished at the extraordinary talent Adam has displayed throughout. Loved Allison and Danny, too. Chris was very good on some soulful numbers. Adam could sing it all. WORD OF ADVICE: Adam, you don't need to hit that same high note in each song - we know you have an amazing range - and did you realize that your tongue annoyingly sticks out when you do? Otherwise, you have it all - personality, presentation, a truly gifted voice that works for both rock and ballads. You may have gotten a little bit too sure of yourself, but I think your personality is mature and respectful and friendly. I'd really like to see American Idol have a system whereby one vote per phone number. No reason to have millions of votes unless there was a way to work it so a dollar (from a wealth philanthropist or corporation) per vote would be contributed to charity. What a gift to humanity that would be! Did I miss it, or what happened this year to "Idol Gives Back"? Adam - I failed to vote for you this last time, but I was positive you were going to win by a large margin. SORRY! I agree, you would be really wonderful on stage. Lots of talent this year on American Idol. Even though I am 70, I looked forward to the shows each week and I hope and pray that these young, tender performers and their young crowd of admirers, won't get lost in a world of decadence, drugs and alcohol. Perhaps the voting is America's way of saying they miss the clean-cut youth and music of the past.

It's a win win situation for Lambert, as his talents are not constrained by being crowned "American Idol." Past contenders who haven't won have more creative freedom if they don't win the title. Daugherty is a PRIME example that he didn't need to win in become successful. I can't EVEN remember who the idol winner was from Daughtery's season, as he still is the ONE that stands out in my mind. (Fantasia's career didn't seem to escalate just because she won the title as well. Haven't seen much of her since.)

Idol knew EXACTLY what they were doing by favoring Kris over Adam. The outrage over Adam's loss will immediately build a fan base to support any album that Idol launches for him. The folks at Entertainment 19 have it made!! They can profit from both stars. I wish Kris the best, and hopefully he'll be able to build a career as well. The fact that he plays musical instruments is certainly an advantage for his career.

I actually agree that Kris is the right winner. Yes Adam is a great showman and a great singer - no one disputes that. But he sings songs no one really listens to anymore and he favours hard rock - a genre that is no longer as popular these days as it might have been. For example, just the fact that he performed with KISS whereas Kris performed with Keith Urban shows the difference in their styles - does anyone under the age of 30 (which is probably where most of the votes came from) still listen to KISS? Kris will probably have a longer career with a wider audience than Adam would.

What we need to realize Kris got more votes than Adam. That is not the same as more people voted for Kris. It has been said that 38 million votes came from Arkansas alone. If that true, Kris only needed 13 million votes from states outside of Arkansas. Idol seriously lost credibility last night. Unless Idol limits phone numbers to no more than five calls, I'm done with the show.

I'm kind of offended to read that some people think I must be a homophobe, or a teenage girl, or a fanatical Christian in order to be a Kris fan. I'm a 36 year old professional with a number of gay friends, and I don't go to church. I think it's very silly that some of you are getting so worked up because your favorite didn't win a reality TV contest. The truth is that I prefer Kris' understated and soulful style to Adam's over-the-top drama, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Get over it, already!

I didn't vote. But if I had, it wouldn't have been for Adam Lambert, and it has nothing to do with any of the condemning factors that his supporters are now bemoaning. I don't care if he's gay, wore eyeliner, non-christian, whatever. The bottom line is this: every sone he sings degenrates into shrieks and screams. That's not music to me. It's sound effects. He always starts out beautifully, only to end up screaming. It's his go-to move. I don't want to hear that. Kris' has a thin, nasal, somewhat whiny voice, but at least it wasn't unpleasant. I wouldn't spend good money on an album by either. However, I will definitely buy Danny Gokey's album.

According to the points you made why Kris won this race (#1-5) many of the people who voted for Kris were not necessarily his fans. They merely voted for Kris because Adam did not fit their image of what an American Idol should be. Logically speaking, this would mean that they may not necessarily be fans of Kris and may not pay $$$ to see him perform.

Adam's fans voted for him because they are truly his fans and will pay to see him in concert or buy his itunes songs. They did not vote for him to spite another or because of some Christian crusade. By the way, aren't Christians supposed to be loving and save the final judgements to God? That's what I was taught. As for the performances that Kris has sung, maybe you can remember his songs but I can't. I only remember Heartless. He's talented but just not in the same caliber as Adam. I don't want to say he is not any good but it is just that Adam was outstanding. And just want to say that right off the top of my head these are Adam's performances that I remember ..Satisfaction,Bohemian Rhapsody in audition, Black or White, Ring of FIre, Mad World (2 versions) If I can't Have You, Born to be Wild, PLay that Funky Music, Whole Lotta, Love, One, Feelin' Fine, Cryin', Slow Ride w/ Allison, and most recently We are the Champions because I honestly could not hear Kris after the first few lines...it became Adam's song too.

Kris and Adam both worked hard this season. Both of them are really nice guys. I myself am a Christian, but I don't believe that you have to be a Christian to be a good person or to have an amazing talent. I also do not believe in condemning those that do not share my religious views. God does not teach us to sit in judgment of each other. (By the way...I see a LOT of Christian-bashing going on in a few of the comments here...talk about judgmental.Not cool at all. If you are entitled to your beliefs, so am I. )

The bottom line is this...I voted for Kris because I prefer his voice and his quiet style versus Adam's heavy metal, screeching style. I thought last night's performance of Kiss the Girl with Keith Urban and Kris Allen was AWESOME!!!! Here's the thing...how many radio stations in a major market can you find someone like Kris Allen on? Several. How many can you find an Adam Lambert? One...two?

It's about music, folks. Not about religion, sexual orientation, geography, whatever... Just the music. Let's not turn it into another excuse to abuse and belittle each other's life styles and beliefs.

Adam had a presence, and one of the clearest, cleanest voices I've heard which makes him great for Broadway. Unfortunately, his high register was where he delivered most of the "punch" in any song, and for whatever reason, I couldn't stand it. I actually had to turn the volume down when he sang. And I've heard a lot... been listening to rock/altrock since it was only played on "underground" radio in the late sixties.

Kris had the singer/songwriter thing going for him, the break/ache (same reason to love Patsy Cline's singing) in his voice and was much easier on the eyes. His originality, steadfastness and talent took him right where he should be. His voice, while I actually prefer female singers, is one I could listen to and not get tired of.

The blatant manipulation on the last show was astounding. The "giant" guest stars, Kiss and Queen, were suited to Adam's voice, to display his vocals, not Kris'. (Notice how both bands were hitmakers, oh, thirty years ago and rely on tired material?) I would have really loved to see someone like Elvis Costello or Chrissie Hynde on the final night. Even so, America voted right.

I hope Kris doesn't fall victim to this mess of media that is Idol. Want to see him write, take his time, choose producers and companies carefully. And I can't wait to see what his first CD is all about. Great voice. And oh, yeah... most votes.

Kris Allen won American Idol because he got the most votes despite the fact that voting hours in AR were from 8 pm to midnight (sleep-time) while it was 6 pm -10pm (primetime) on the west coast. I voted for Kris, not just because I am from AR, but because I liked his musical syle the best. Is that totally inconceivable? Is it also inconceivable that Danny Gokey's fans could have cast their votes for Kris because his musical style was more similar to Danny's than Adam's was? I am a Christian and I feel like I've been stereotyped as a "homophobe" who only voted for Kris to prevent Adam from winning. Adam has a great voice and stage presence if that's the kind of music you like. It's just not for me. If anyone did vote for either contestant just to prevent the other from winning because they didn't like their lifestyle or beliefs, then that was just wrong. However, no one is perfect, not even Christians. I beleive everything happens for a reason. Both Kris and Adam have amazing careers ahead of them and from everything I've heard both are really good guys. This is the way it was supposed to be.

By the way, I heard on a Little Rock, AR radio station that Kris had the opprotunity to lead Adam to the Lord. So to all the other Christians out there, Adam is now a brother in Christ who could use our prayers for strength to continue to seek the Lord.

I was particularly struck by the fact that five out of seven of the past Idol winners have been very vocal about their Christian faith. That says a lot about whether most Americans are prepared to judge based on merit or on narrow-minded faith biases. I'm a devout Roman Catholic myself, but I would never let my strong Catholic beliefs cloud my judgment of art and merit. Kris won the popular vote not based on merit but on his Christian affiliations. That's crystal clear. So it would be unwise to try to justify his victory over Adam based on merit. On many occasions you could hear Kris straining to hit notes on songs. In Adam's case his voice glided seemlessly over some of the most challenging songs. Adam has a sense of art and artistry in musical interpretation rarely seen in today's nauseatingly corporate- and politically-correct-dominated era. Christians--or Christian fundamentals to be specific--are not known for their open-mindedness, especially in the realm of art and music. Democratic practices shouldn't be allowed to judge a singing contest based on merit. Contests like singing, math and debate competitions are not the realm of democratic practices but a strict meritocracy judged by people who have a specialized and astute ability in these fields.

I think a contributing factor was the sound mix at the Nokia theater on the final performance night. It was almost impossible to hear Adam over the back up. That has been corrected on the videos on itunes. You should download and compare. The difference is obvious. In contrast, the mix for Chris was right on.

Everybody thinks your votes count. 100,000,000 votes with only 6 numbers and a 5 second answer spot for each. What kind of computer can handle that? Adam was "not" chosen by the producers and he knew he wasn't the idol, he was told, look at his face when it was announced. They didn't want him to be under the idol contract for a year. There's a whole lot more money to be made with him a somewhat "free agent" than obligated to Fox. Sorry Ramin your article made sense till the #7 as a 52 year old female I have none of Kris's tunes on my Ipod and all of Adam's his verstility of songs from Mad World to Satisfaction. Okay I didn't care for Ring of Fire. The problem i have with Kris is that he isn't versatile he can't sing anything but songs like Hearltess and Falling Slowly and I won't buy a CD full of ballads or pay to see someone like him in concert because it would be so bland. If I am going to pay for a concert ticket I want to be entertained and have a blast and with Adam I would have that. Kris is good but and Idol I don't think so but he fits the American profile a Christian who flaunts his religion to win over middle America. Good for him but the talented or the best singer did not win that night.

I am not sure why the writer assumes Allen was HELPED by the Christian vote, while Lambert was HURT by the anti-gay vote. Is there any evidence to suggest that the gay/pro-gay community was not as united behind Adam as the pro-Christian community was behind Kris? And, there certainly is a well documented anti-evangelical segment of the population -- just as there is an anti-gay segment

The writer's arguments are equivalent to Rush Limbaugh claiming Obama won the presidency because he got 96% of the African-American vote without accounting for the fact that there are still plenty of white Americans who prefer a white candidate.

It's natural to be defensive when your favorite loses, but this kind of hollow, ex post facto excuse making is beneath a usually progressive publication like Rolling Stone. I will assume the writer (and editors) were simply intellectually lazy rather than intellectually dishonest. Incidentally, for what it's worth, if I was American and inclined to vote for American Idol (I'm neither) I would likely have voted for Adam.

Kris won. And Adam will have he same contract with 19 Entertainment. There was no conspiracy that now Adam can go do better things without having to be constrained by the American Idol Machine. They are all under contract with 19 Entertainment. And they should all be grateful. And truth be told, they all seem to be. It's only the bloggers that seem to take issue with any of it. The contestants all seem pleased as punch to be household names, all of them.

Freedom of choice is just that, freedom to prefer one singer over another! For no other reason than the quality of their voice, the tone, the register, their song choices, whatever. Freedom.

Is there a single site that isn't rampant with conspiracy theories?

So let me get this straight- no pun intended. This article say this is about gay, straight, religious, not religous. Kara this and Kara that. These 7 reasons blow.

The fact is the winner was decided weeks ago. They had to slip in Allison because everything was slanted towards middle America. Mat, Kris and Danny VS. Allison and Adam. I would think that middle America makes up the largest segment of the American poulation.

I have been telling people for years that middle America calls the shots. Everything between California and New York falls in that category (I'm from California). Adam didn't have a chance.

IMO though... if adam could have stopped screaming then more people would have voted for him. Really speaking 80's glam rock just isn't hot right now. That's my generation but I was a little embarassed to hear him sing. A great general performer though. Rock on KISS! Go Kris.

I am heterosexual. I objectively listened to both singers...Kris and Adam. I am also a Christian. Adam Lambert has one of the greatest singing voices that I have ever heard in a looooooooooong time. Lambert's command of the musical notes coming from his vocal cords were unmatched in this American Idol contest. Of course, it is the audiences' personal opinion that votes for the winner...professionally, Adam Lambert will succeed tremendously...he has on of those "one in a million" gifted singing voices. Many of the greatest rock-n-roll singers of all time had great screaming-type voices...Lambert has a great rock-n-roll scream. Robert Plant, Roger Daltry are a couple of legendary singers with awesome screams.

The judges were telling u like it was, Simon knows when he sees someone with talent, he will tell u like it is weather u like it or not. Everyone couldnt wait to see what Adam was going to do, Adam was the talk this season, He has so much talent, He can sing anything screaming or not, He was the best and it was a disappointment to alot of people to see Adam not win because he deserved it. Mr. Sedooteh, I'm a staunch, conservative, Christian, heterosexual female; and frankly, I think you just about nailed it in this article. I will never deny Adam's vocal and showmanship talent and ability. Clearly, he doesn't need the title for his career to "blow up". But, I seriously hope that the producers and the judges never again do to another contestant what they did to Adam. The bias and favoritism towards him was nuts and unfair. They are going to have to keep it more objective, or this show is not going to last long after Season 8. Their bias may have created lazy Adam fans, but it also created a backlash from other contestant's fans, because they won't allow judge or producer manipulation dictate who to vote for.

You're right. Kara's song wasn't the greatest. Kris seemed to struggle with it, but he still sounded better singing it to me. Even Randy agreed.

I really believe that Adam could have been the first Glam/Hair Metal rocker to win. . . if it weren't for Factor #5! *shudder* The guyliner, nails, and crazy hair is "normal" in rock culture, so that was not an issue for me.

I, like most people, agree that one's Faith has nothing to do with whether or not they can sing - either they have it or they don't; but I won't play "ignorant" and pretend that Faith may be a tie-breaking factor to determine who someone votes for.

I will be very blunt and honest. It is Factor #5 that caused me to pick one favorite at a time instead of splitting my votes between Adam and my chosen favorite. Because of the racy pictures, the androgynous singing, the questionable YouTube performances, and the sexual ambiguity - especially dodging the direct questions about it, he lost my votes early on. What's funny is that in one of Adam's confessionals, he said something to the effect of: "The 'flack' I get is because of what I put out there. I'm in control of what I do, so I'm going to own it". Well, he ain't in such a hurry to own the flack that he's getting behind how he chose to present himself by simply answering a direct question: "Which way do you 'swing'?"

The Tween Vote factor is something that I have heard about on the A. I. blogs. Someone said that tween girls want to love someone that will love them back. It's questionable regarding whom Adam loves, but it's obvious who Kris and Danny love - the girls!

I agree with the Ipod assessment. I have one from Kris (Rat Pack Wk), and none from Adam.

Oh, and another thing. It seems like many people want to deal with only one side of the American Idol "coin". On one side, you have the issue of who is the most talented singer. This issue should have absolutely nothing to do with the aforementioned points from Mr. Setoodeh. Either you are the most talented or not. Either you can really sing or not, and of course there is the issue of plain old personal music style preference.

On the other side of the A. I. "coin" is an issue that is a very clear one for me. It is the Role Model issue. Whether you agree/like it or not, the A.I. title holder is a role model of sorts, just like the ladies that are chosen to serve as Ms. America, and like positions. That is why some of the 7 points came into play for why voters chose who they voted for, in addition to singing ability. As I previously stated, #5 was an issue for me, mainly for the same exact reason that fellow blogger MoHoso314 has stated earlier: " . . . I find it hard to believe that parents would condone their child crushing after an idol that would open their child's eyes and minds to a lifestyle that they would not want their child to participate in." I would rather point a child in the direction of Kris's lifestyle, since it is in alignment with what I believe in. That is why what many think should not matter, when choosing an American Idol, really does matter after all.

I watched Larry King two Friday's ago, give or take a day, and he was interviewing some former American Idols. The conversation turned to Adam's "picture controversy" and Justin G. said that he didn't think that it mattered to the American public. Needless to say that the look on his face, at the finale was as shocked and dumbfounded as the look on Simon C.'s face. I dare say, it mattered after all . . .

I stopped getting behind any contestant several seasons ago because I learned it's a tween voting contest not a talent contest and this season proved my point more than any other. Seriously now!! You actually downloaded some of his songs? Oh.........you really have to get out in the world. This particular contestant is the biggest tranquilizer in the history of AI. I'm barely keeping awake talking about him. Like I said I don't bother voting or getting behind a contestant. I believe everyone is wrong. I am a christian and a grandmother of 13. I voted for Adam. He is the greatest talent that AI has ever had. My children grew up with KISS and Michael Jackson. Do people out there not watch Ellen Degeneres or not allow their kids to watch Elton John or all the many other gay people out there. It doesn't matter if it was 1,000,000 votes or a 100,000,000 votes. You have to remember that these are not individual votes. As long as people are allowed to vote over and over there will never be a true winner of American Idol. Some people cannot afford to vote more than once, including myself. So until AI changes the way the voting is done, the ones that can afford to vote over and over will select the next American Idol. It has nothing to do with real talent. It is a popularity contest, with the most votes winning, and if you can only vote once, you're just out of luck. If a person was only allowed one vote, we may have had a real winner. And I'm not against Kris. He seems like a very nice young man with a reasonable amount of talent, but he is a long way from having the talent that Adam does.

I honestly believe Kris won by a landslide. American Idol still hasn't come out to say the distribution of votes. They did in season 2 when it was VERY close between Ruben and Clay. The reason I believe it was a landslide is that the night it was announced that Kris won I watched the local Arkansas Fox news (I live in Arkansas). They informed viewers that of the 100 million votes that were cast in the final, 38 million were from Arkansas ALONE. This was confirmed by AT&T. Now, I know everyone in Arkansas didn't vote all for Kris, however, Arkansas sticks with its people and I can probably say that most likely 35 million votes in Arkansas were for Kris. That is already 35-40% of the total vote already. I heard from folks, mind you, adults (over 60) that were calling in and voting for 2 hours for Kris. Friends let me know that they sent over 400-500 texts in for Kris. That is why I think it was a landslide. Like I said, Arkansas will route for the home team. Period.

Also of note though, I was watching the news when it was down to the final 3. Fox News Arkansas WAS reporting how to SUPER TEXT on the news. Said that you can put in your phone all the phone numbers and send one text out and it will go out 30 times. Fox was telling folks how to do it. I am surprised that hasn't come into play in all the talk now about how AT&T gave phones to people to vote (I think AI is saying without those votes, it was still a landslide that those votes really didn't matter).

I believe this article only needs three reasons, which are that (1) Kris likely got the majority of Danny's voters, (2) Kris was the "safe" vote, and most imporantly, (3) Kris got votefortheworst.com's votes. Do people forget the pull those idiots have on the show?

I am seeing a pattern here. Indeed, rockers never win, but also I'm seeing that of late, it's always the safe singers who win. Jordin Sparks over both Melinda and Blake. I've heard Jordin's voice over a thousand times before, Melinda had a rough edge to her soulful voice, something I found very unique and wonderful to hear, and though Blake didn't really have the vocal chops, he had incredible talent surrounding it, and a voice that was only his. David Cook over Archie -- Archie was this wonderboy and Cook was a ripoff who didn't give credit where it was due and again sounded like a hundred other singers. This season, the most stark example has proven my case. Kris was a major letdown who can't even BEGIN to stand up to other earlier Idol winners. But, Adam's career is in front of him, and his career promises far more than Kris's.

By the way, did anyone notice how Kris didn't even seem to want the win? For the weeks leading up to it, he seemed unhappy or even downright mad and fed up with the whole gig. And when he gets the win, he doesn't know what to say about it, only that Adam deserved it.

Of course tons of vote came from Arkansas: AT&T sponsored Kris Allen parties and gave out cell phones with free texting for tweenies to vote for Kris and American Idol did not place a limit time on voting as they had in previous idols.

The contest results should have been tossed out based on the AT&T involvement alone. That is corporate sponsorship and not offered to Lambert. For Idol to say that they wouldn't allow that to happen again in the future, doesn't negate the spurious results of this particular contest.

It was unethical, possible illegal and just wrong. But Lambert is superior and most people know it.

I feel if religion matter make Allen win,It should not happen in music world,

It's a politics.It's impolite for music.

If I have to take one,I'll vote(I cannot) Kris,personally,and I know Adam is great and already having his own atmosphere,and I felt he will be ok,with or without to be winner.

As a fan of who didn't make Top24 last year,I don't know Winner will always succeed,it's just a begining.But if these wrong things,and AT&T worked to Kris get votes,It's a disrespect for music.

I love all the conspiracy theories we see each year. However, it is a shame that so many people get so nasty in their attacks against the eventual winner and other top competitors. For me, this was perhaps the very best season of AI. I felt the Top 5 were all very talented, and they will probably all get recording contracts. I loved both Adam and Kris, for different reasons, and in the end, for the first year ever, I didn't care which one won. I look forward to hearing both of their CDs, and wish them both the best. These 2 guys couldn't be more different, and look at how well they get along. too bad their fans can't follow their example.

It wasn’t fixed or rigged or stolen. And I don’t have AT&T;. Adam will make a great Vegas act and that’s about it. Otherwise, he’s a one-trick pony. He’s not bad; he’s just not got the phrasing of a Frank Sinatra or a Tony Bennett--singers who are timeless. If I buy an album, I want to listen to someone who can sing, not scream.

Sexual orientation and/or religion don’t matter to me. At all. The Boy from Oz, Peter Allen, was great. He could write and he could sing. I’m old. Among the people I’ve seen: Judy Garland, Betty Carter, Howlin’ Wolf, Sam Cooke, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Aretha, Emmylou, Vince Gill, James Brown, Nanci Griffith, Vern Gosdin ("the Voice"), Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Nat “King” Cole, Don Williams, Audra MacDonald, Jennifer Hudson. I’m not trying to brag here. These are people who can, as the song says, “tear your heart out when they sing.” Kris Allen can; Adam can’t.

lots of facts,lots of explications,lots of theories,lots of speculation,acusations,..

I am a hard-die-teenager ,51 years old.I voted hours and hours for Adam and I have only one explication I can confirm..we,the fans,were too lazy.I dont agree with the A.I.-votingsystem,I dont get the reason why after the finales the lines have to stay open for 4 hours,that was until 2 am in the morning (if im well informed,I live in Peru).I had ocuupied lines until the last 45 minutes votingtime and from then on every..EVERY!!!..single phonecall of mine came through and I used all three possible lines for Adam.I dont know if the same happened to Kriss-didnt had the courage to dial his number..But fact is,in the last 45 minutes Adam lost millions of possible votes.

Now-I have to say,and I m not too ashamed..I cried over the results,but Adam himself was soo happy for Kriss and said everything is good,so I calmed down very fast.I like Kriss very much and he ll go his way.They are best buddies and so very diferent in their personalioties and music,why cant we love both?(and Sdam alittle bit more..)They themselves give us the best example HOW!
