I doubt he would approve. The media's job was to report NEWS -- not be the propaganda operation for the White House.

We have lost critical reporting.

We get it, you don't like the president. Yawn. But what, exactly, would your definition of "critical reporting" be? I'm thinking it's not reporting, it's commentary that meets your approval/agreement. Obviously you are not watching any current news programs, or you just can't understand them.

Because in this day and age we invite anybody to say anything even though it may not make any sense or be so filled with fallacies as to be a joke.

You're JUST NOTICING NOW???!!!!!

Maybe that's the REAL problem - it's a buyers market and no one cares - people only hear what they want to hear and be told what they want to hear. So I wonder more what Cronkite has thought about the lack of appetite for becoming informed by those who consume media - apparently today's market only wants fake news, heavy partisanship performances by those pretending to be fair or balanced or delivering the news in general, and its all meant to be an entertaining circus just like so called reality tv. Why? Because affiliates make the most $ during their local news and the networks get their best bang for buck airing reality TV rather than quality programming or straight delivery of news & reporting without all the opinionated commentary.

It was during the Clinton years, that the news media became scandal mongers and launched entire networks devoted to covering nothing but scandal.

Then during the Bush run up to war, the news media no longer knew how to cover intensely serious subject like war and should we be going, and let themselves be bullied into silent submission by the overzealous white house. instead of being the nation's watchdog, the media became the Bush White house lapdog. Only after GWB's war went bad and the public turned on him, did the media finally figured out they were supposed to be CRITICALLY questioning the WH.

And now during Obama's brief stay on the WH, they are having a hard time finding the proper position to take on covering a very popular president.

Cronkite was the golden era of journalism. I just recall it as a kid, but, that was when journalism did not care about ratings.
