ITA about Josh Holloway. He gave outstanding performances this year. Also, Better Off Ted is one of the funniest sit-coms on. The entire cast is a very strong ensemble.

Also, Battlestar Galactica must be mentioned. The show (which ended its run this year) garnered attention for production, but the powerhouse actors (such as Mary McDonnel, Michael Hogan, Edward James Olmos, and James Callis) have been snubbed again. Bear McCreary should have been nominated for his incredible soundtrack.

Glad to see Pushing Daisies on there, though.

Do the Emmy voters just plug in Mariska Hargitay every year? They could not possibly have watched that series this season. Getting another nomination for being a one-dimensional character whose pouting victimhood dominates every episode of a once-terrific series doesn't deserve academy recognition.

It's a shame that more deserving actresses are ignored in favor of Dick Wolf's favorite.

i couldn't agree more. unfortunately any emmys who don't nominate the brilliant friday night lights, battlestar gallactica, josh holloway, or true blood, cannot be taken seriously as the best of television.

Annie Wersching? Are you serious? I've been a 24 fan for years and I thought her performance was lousy and totally unconvincing. I understand they are bringing her back next season, and when I heard that I was shocked. The show was great this past season but she was a weak point.

To the naysayer- Mariska Hargitay's nomination and the prospect of Neil Patrick Harris enlivening the Emmy's are the only reasons I'm watching this year. Her performances have more dimensions then the finest crystal-and quite frankly, I'm tired of the cream of the procedural crop being ignored every year by everyone but the viewers! As for the best Drama Series, Actress and Actor nominations, why don't we just call it the Cable Emmy's-as only 10% of the viewing audience has the moola to watch the majority of the nominees! Why no CSI's, NCIS or L&O SVU? Why no William Petersen, Paul Guilfoyle or Mark Harmon? Why no Michael Weatherly, Pauly Perrette or David McCallum? I guess it's why ask why, and hope someday for performances and shows that last the test of time to finally get true recognition.

All the characters of NCIS and the actors who play them deserve awards. Acting awards should be given to those who make their characters come to life. There is a reason the series has lasted so long. Look at the cast.

Just another reason to skip these so called awards shows...

The Shield was epic last year, and not a single nomination?? Leary has been hands down one of the best performances in years on Rescue Me this season, but apparently not good enough for these critics...I'm not a big fan of the Emmy's or the Oscars, nine times out of ten I don't agree with who they choose. Also, no nod for Battlestar is another big let down. I am glad to see that Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory got a nod, his character is one of the best in a sitcom.

I really agree with you about Josh Holloway and Annie Wersching being skipped over this year was a big mistake. But the biggist mistake was not nominating Better off Ted as the brightest and funniest new comedy show. Portia DiRossi (spelling?) is absolutely the best comedy actress we've seen in decades. She's hilarious and we love to watch her....she certainly deserves an Emmy nod.

Also Eli Stone should have been given a better shot.

I too was disappointed at the omission of Jill Scott, so well cast as Precious Rematswe (sp?) It seems to me that Ladies #1 Detective Agency was a mini-series, as was Life on Mars. Both of these should be included in any awards nominations. Life on Mars was so creative and different, and the finale of this series, or mini-series, was one of the most satisfying I've seen.

Can't agree more with your comments on The Shield. The show was one of the more under-rated ones out there for 7 seasons. The Sopranos and the Wire got all the pub but this was pure gold. The way the writers ended it by wrapping every loose end up was absolutely amazing. It wasn't til the penultimate episode that you actually turn 100% against Vic Mackey. Of all the nasty things he had done over the years I still felt for him but I flipped a 180 after that episode aired...

You forgot Battlestar Gallactica...yeah, it's science fiction and most people don't give a flip about that genre, but it was by far the best drama out there...gritty, compelling and extremely well acted...say what you want, but it was. Everything scifi related pales in comparison.

The following two snubs are legit! Eva Longeria-Parker for Desperate Housewives and Katy Segal for Sons of Anarchy. I completely agree. I have never seen Katey Segals latest outing, but she has always been the best 'character actress' for the last 25 years since "Married with Children" debuted. Beyond that, The Shield had its time in the spotlight, let it go. Over and Under the whole Josh Holloway LOST thing - let it go and same with the SHOW - BORING! And finally Friday Night Lights, are you kidding me with this? Seriously? I mean come on, when you are bounced off from a primetime network and line-up to another network DIRECTV all together, yeah they needed to be snubbed and rightfully so! GO AWAY FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! PUH-LEZZ!

Not sure why I want to see why Josh can't sink his teeth into True Blood there are some great performances including supporting cast Nelson Ellis who plays Lafayette and Rutina Wesley who plays Tara .It is not about the genre it is the show.Some I agree with some I do not I have just about given up on Network TV Better off Ted,I tried to watch I just don't feel it could hit it's stride it was like the show could not decide the direction if the entire show stayed quirky like Arrested Development it would have been good but the sappy serious moments ruined it.I guess I like things a little out there.

Ridley you are spot on about The Wire it was truely a great series and as a police officer for 24 years I found it very realistic. The CSI's are the worst.

The Emmy's are rapidly becoming a waste of time. There was some really great stuff on TV last year, and almost none of it was recognized.

Ok, True Blood absolutely needs to be there. And really, did anyone watch Gray Gardens-with Drew's reprehensible attempt at a Boston accent and sadly, Jessica Lange was sorely miscast in this drama pic. Just because one produces a piece does not give them license to star...the story was fine the actors NOT-so why are they there?

I admit, I too am confused with this years list.......???
