Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!
Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.
The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."
Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.
Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.
Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.
Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.
It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.
Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}
Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.
Grammar question aside, as a "boomer" who grew up in the South, I found the comment about coming of age with the civil rights movement and, thanks to hard working, frugal parents of the Depression-WW II generation, having "the luxury of being able to care about the lives of people less fortunate than ourselves" interesting. The idealism driving the support of so many young people for Obama, and his emphasis on the fact that all Americans are in this together reminds me of the 60's. It is a refreshing change from the greed, conspicious consumption and "survival of the fittest" mindset that has permeated our county since 1980 (despite Bill Clinton's efforts to focus us on the fact of our "togetherness" during the 90's).
It's a shame that it takes a crisis of the magnitude of the current economic situation to focus the attention of the country on the real problems and away from the "culture war" scares (gay marriage, etc.) that have been used to divide us (to the financial benefit of the few and the detriment of our common future). Thankfully, the crisis has occurred at a time when there is someone of Obama's intelligence, countenance and judgment (picking Joe Biden for VP calmed any doubts there) in the wings ready to lead us when we desperately need someone who will bring us together.
(But I still want to know the answer to the grammar question....)
The parenthetical at the end of your second paragraph bugged me.
When I was taught grammar (in the early 60's, diagraming those sentences, thanks Mrs. Hutcheson!), I learned that the proper structure of your sentence would be: "The other professional journalist in our group and I abstained." The writer mentions himself last, not first. Similarly, the appropriate construction of a sentence would be: "Your parenthetical bugged my friends and me," not "Your parenthetical bugged me and my friends."
Over the past few years I've seen this rule of grammar ignored more and more frequently. Has this rule of grammar changed?
So McCain's ad making fun of Obama as the new Moses was right on. I just hope it doesn't take Obama 40 years to get us out of the Iraqi desert, not to mention the financial desert we're in now. Howard's article is linked on RealityChex.com at http://www.realitychex.com along with other insightful commentary about the presidential race.
McCain's DIRTY LITTLE SECRET in Arizona.

I live in Hanover, PA. There has just been the theft of McCain/Palin signs from many yards. Never before have I been told to take my signs in at night when I went to get a replacement sign. I guess is just apart of the "change" Obama promises to bring. If I were Jewish I'd be nervous about what type of intimidation tactics his supporters resort to. Then there is Acorn and those types. Is this really change that our country needs.
Another great article from Howard Fineman. I guess that's why I continue to read is comments and listen to him on MSNBC. He is a moderate with very sensible observations and deep thinker type truth telling.
I am glad to see the country is now seeing Senator Obama as a good candidate and not a good (Black) candidate. He is simply the best man for the job at this crucial time.
I am an independent, but when John McCain picked Sarah Palen, he lost any remote possibility of getting my vote... He totally ignored the long term effects of picking her...
I am glad to see the country is not seeing Senator Obama as a good candidate and not a good (Black) candidate. He is simply the best man for the job at this crucial time.

AJC Strongly Condemns Rev. Jesse Jackson's Comment on American Jews
October 14, 2008 - New York - The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has condemned the Rev. Jesse Jackson's statement about 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades.'
"Rev. Jackson's remarks, which appeared in an interview with the journalist Amir Taheri in today's New York Post, echo classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. 'This statement, regrettably, is not the first troubling comment by Rev. Jackson regarding Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people.'
Arguing as a private citizen that an Obama administration could bring significant change to U.S. foreign policy, Jackson was quoted as saying that "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" would lose much of their influence should Senator Obama be elected president."

And people are upset about raciest comments some in the crowd are allegedly saying at Palin events? Isn't this the same Democrat leader who once called New York "Hymietown"?
why would Jews be afraid of Palin, it is complete utter nonsense to be afraid of her what are you afraid she is going to make you accept Jesus , please God gives everyone a free will and ms palin is in agreement with that and doesn’t force her religion on anyone.
It is just a paranoid Jew that would think that a Christian would turn and bite them. Now a Muslim well you know the answer to that one, Mr Obama "my Muslim faith" until he was corrected he didn’t know he made the mistake that guy is going to turn on the Jews who is his buddies Farrakhan calls Obama the messiah, and what Muslim calls a Christian the messiah??? Maybe a Muslim calls a Muslim the messiah. Look at Wright, Mansour they say some pretty ugly things about whites and Jews.
Wake up Jewish folks pull your head out the sand.
Go watch for yourselves on Youtube, look up Khalid Mansour and see how nasty he is. look up percy sutton and see how Mansour asked him to write a letter to harvard law school on Obamas behalf, go look up Obama Bashing the old and the new testament its all on their live on video
go see who is going to turn on the jew, its not Palin its Obama. You can sit under a jew hating preacher for 20 years and not have it rub off on you.
and if jewish people vote for Obama they will be so sorry they did, the guy is going to turn on them and they are going to wonder who their vote unleashed.
Your friend, Howie, hit the nail on the head. I'm 62, had a solid public school education and was reminded often that many didn't have what we had. I'm not wealthy now by any stretch, but I'm comfortable. I have enough. Something has happened to our country over the past years. We're all puff 'n' stuff. We're aimless. The world is smaller and we see the need. Here in our land of plenty, Katrina blew the roof off part of the secret. Eight years of Bush took the walls down. Now we're stripped bare and want solid leadership to get us back on the track we know we should take. "It's been a long time comin'", indeed.
Sen. McCain with a very conservative record on social issues, defense and spending was liked by Jewish voters because of his strong support of Israel over the years and also because of his close friendship with Joe Lieberman. His selection of Gov. Palin destroyed that goodwil in an instant. Her values could hardly be more unlike those of a majority of Jewish voters. She represents the hard core rightwing views of bringing God into the schools, into business, into government and into politics. The theocracy of evangelicals would allow participation by Catholics, Mormons and traditional Protestants, but no minorities need apply. Jewish people, despite their success and affluence, would not be welcome in this evangelical ruling class. Sen. McCain gained the allegiance of the religious right when he picked Gov. Palin: but they would have voted for him anyway. He threw away an equal number of moderates and independents who might have voted for him. He gambled that he could win without their votes but not without the evangelical Republican base. We will soon see if he was right.
As a Marquis wannabe, please count me in the Obama column. My 1967 graduation year disqualified me as to be a Marquis. But some of the best of times were with weasel, goose, turtle, PSSC Physics with Avner, Fineman and others, I think. Roadtrips, eating contests and most importantly sports allowed me to be close to the club members. go Obama! DMBPITAU
I favored McCain until he nominated Palin. Reason: The more we know about Palin, the more we doubt about McCain's judgements and integrity. Palin is an evangelical terminator who is programmed to instigate and licensed to kill.
