Ohio and Florida are the bigger issues. Penn. looks to be going the way of Obama anyway. McCain should focus on Florida, Ohio, Missouri and North Carolina. Penn. is much like Michigan at this point: a lost cause.

I wonder what Mr. Obama would say if we wanted to take some of his campaign money he raised and give it to Mccain to make it fair since he has more? If he uses his spread the wealth theory he should not have a problem with it. But my guess is he would say he worked hard for it and should not have to give it to Mccain.

A great and inspiring article for us Obama supporters Howard! It sure is nice to see that even the red parts of Pennsylvania are waking up to the fact that the repugnant ones have been screwing up their economic opportunities the past 8 years. I have little doubt that McNasty is wasting time and effort in a state that he will never win. If he's wasting time in PA then he's not defending his vulnerable turf in the red battleground states. Obama has got the smart campaign strategy of having a wide path, or even multiple paths to victory.

"It speaks volumes about the supporters of The Messiah Obama that the praise they gush seems to have more to do with him offering "inspiration" and "hope" than concrete policies or a rational ideology.

As a Brit living abroad in what I consider to be the greatest country in the world it has saddened me to see so many Americans willing to elect a man who, more than any US President in history, stands for a complete reversal of the incomparable American values of self-responsibility and individualism.

The liberal mainstream media here has acted as an arm of Obama's election campaign and has brazenly dropped any pretense of journalistic integrity in giving this man a free pass. Ordinarily, the past of a man like this would disqualify him from the most basic security clearances - yet the media (apart from Fox News) say nothing as he struts arrogantly toward the White House and the most important job in the world.

Those who say that his past is "irrelevant" and that to bring it up is a "hateful smear" (as the media has done here) is not thinking clearly. The leader of a country will naturally attempt to reshape that nation into the image of his values. The history and background of a person are instrumental in shaping that person's values. Therefore, the scrutiny of a Presidential candidate's past is essential in determining what he or she has in store for America.

Obama's past speaks volumes. He has spent his entire adult life as a far left activist, has sympathized with the racist ideology of black separatism, has openly expressed Marxist views, was until a few years ago a candidate for Chicago's openly socialist "New Party," was for 20 years friends with and attended the sermons of a pastor who spews the most vile anti-American and anti-white hate imaginable, worked and raised money for a left wing organization (ACORN) whose violent activism coerced banks into giving many of the sub-prime loans which now threaten the world's economy and who are now engaged in some of the worst election fraud in US history, was recently filmed telling a meeting of ACORN leaders that once he is elected he will allow them to shape his agenda for America, was friends with an anti-American Marxist terrorist whose criminal group bombed and killed innocent people, worked with this man on a project to radicalize Chicago's schools so that kids were taught left wing propaganda instead of marketable skills they could use to get jobs, campaigned for a Marxist Kenyan (his cousin, Odinga) who later incited his goons to commit genocide and burn women and children alive....the list just goes on and on and on.

Yet the mainstream liberal media has refused to look into any of this in any depth whatsoever and has instead poured all of its resources into investigating the background of an innocent working class plumber who dared to question Obama's socialist agenda in front of TV cameras. The conduct of the liberal American media throughout this campaign is possibly the broadest and most damaging war that US journalism has ever waged upon the American public.

Obama is without a shadow of a doubt the worst presidential candidate in US history and the fact that assorted socialists and dictators the world over endorse his candidacy says it all.

Obama's tax plan will spell disaster for the US economy. Like most leftists he fails to understand that you cannot raise the standard of living of the poor without economic growth and that you do not create economic growth by "spreading wealth around." You have to create more. Unfortunately, Obama seems to have his heart set on instigating revenge on the "evil capitalist classes" in form of higher taxes on big business, the very sector which drives the US economy and whose economies of scale mean lower prices for the consumer. They'll get back their money by raising their prices which means Americans will have fewer dollars to spend on the kinds of things that smaller businesses provide - resulting in more small businesses folding or downgrading.

You do NOT raise taxes on the most productive during a recession. This economic truism has been ignored by Obama, who instead wins support from a populace drugged by the propaganda of the liberal mainstream media into thinking that the most productive should "share" their wealth instead of using it as capital to create more - the equivalent of stealing corn seed from the farmer to feed the villagers.

I have never feared for America as I do now. The far left, which belongs in the dustbins of history, may be about to seize power of the most powerful nation in the world. They will destroy it and God knows what else.

A case for McCain the stalwart

WASHINGTON — Contrarian that I am, I'm voting for John McCain. I'm not talking about bucking the polls or the media consensus that it's over before it's over. I'm talking about bucking the rush of wet-fingered conservatives leaping to Barack Obama before they're left out in the cold without a single state dinner for the next four years.

I stand athwart the rush of conservative ship-jumpers of every stripe—neo (Ken Adelman), moderate (Colin Powell), genetic/ironic (Christopher Buckley) and socialist/atheist (Christopher Hitchens)—yelling, "Stop!" I shall have no part of this motley crew. I will go down with the McCain ship. I'd rather lose an election than lose my bearings.

First, I'll have no truck with the phony case ginned up to rationalize voting for the most liberal and inexperienced presidential nominee in living memory. The "erratic" temperament issue, for example. As if McCain's risky and unsuccessful but in no way irrational attempt to tactically maneuver his way through the economic tsunami that came crashing down a month ago renders unfit for office a man who demonstrated the most admirable equanimity and courage in the face of unimaginable pressures as a prisoner of war, and who later steadily navigated innumerable challenges and setbacks, not the least of which was the collapse of his campaign a year ago.

McCain the "erratic" is a cheap Obama talking point. The 40-year record testifies to McCain the stalwart.

Nor will I countenance the "dirty campaign" pretense. The double standard here is stunning. Obama ran a scurrilous Spanish-language ad falsely associating McCain with anti-Hispanic slurs. Another ad falsely claimed McCain supports "cutting Social Security benefits in half." And for months Democrats insisted that McCain sought 100 years of war in Iraq.

McCain's critics are offended that he raised the issue of William Ayers. What's astonishing is that Obama was not offended by Ayers.

Moreover, the most remarkable of all tactical choices of this election season is the attack that never was. Out of extreme (and unnecessary) conscientiousness, McCain refused to raise the legitimate issue of Obama's most egregious association—with the race-baiting Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Dirty campaigning, indeed.

The case for McCain is straightforward. The financial crisis has made us forget, or just blindly deny, how dangerous the world out there is.

We have a generations-long struggle with Islamic jihadism. An apocalyptic soon-to-be-nuclear Iran. A nuclear-armed Pakistan in danger of fragmentation. A rising Russia pushing the limits of revanchism. Plus the sure-to-come Falklands-like surprise popping out of nowhere.

Whom do you want answering that phone at 3 a.m.? A man who has been cramming on these issues for the last year, who has never had to make an executive decision affecting so much as a city, let alone the world? A foreign policy novice instinctively inclined to the flabbiest, most vaporous multilateralism (e.g., the Berlin Wall came down because of "a world that stands as one"), and who refers to the most deliberate act of war since Pearl Harbor as "the tragedy of 9/11," a term more appropriate for a bus accident?

Or do you want a man who is the most prepared, most knowledgeable, most serious foreign policy thinker in the U.S. Senate? A man who not only has the best instincts, but the honor and the courage to, yes, put country first, as when he carried the lonely fight for the surge that turned Iraq from catastrophic defeat into achievable strategic victory?

There's just no comparison.

Obama's own running mate warned that Obama's youth and inexperience will invite a crisis—indeed a crisis "generated" precisely to test him. Can you be serious about national security and vote on Nov. 4 to invite that test?

And how will he pass it? Well, how has he fared on the only two significant foreign policy tests he has faced since he has been in the Senate? The first was the surge. Obama failed spectacularly. He not only opposed it. He tried to denigrate it, stop it and, finally, deny its success.

The second test was Georgia, to which Obama responded instinctively with evenhanded moral equivalence, urging restraint on both sides. McCain did not have to consult his advisers to instantly identify the aggressor.

Today's economic crisis, like every other in our history, will in time pass. But the barbarians will still be at the gates. Whom do you want on the parapet? I'm for the guy who can tell the lion from the lamb.

Living in Pennsylvania, I have yet to talk to ONE PERSON who is

voting for Obama. Everyone I talk to has yet to know ONE PERSON

who is voting for Obama.

Driving down the streets, I have seen ONE sign for Obama, many

for McCain.

We are a state, or at least, a county, of OLD people. People who

KNOW BETTER than to believe in the INFOMERCIAL he has

pounded into our eyes and ears for over a year.

I think we had better wait until election day to get a clearer picture

of what we are being told.

Conservatism overrides party lines. There is conservatism in the

CORE VALUES of this nation that are CORE ISSUES when it

comes down to voting individually.

Few people are thrilled with someone who OPENLY SUPPORTS

issues like PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION.

Few people are thrilled with someone who OPENLY SUPPORTS

BIG GOVERNMENT, MORE TAXES, SOCIALIST HEALTH CARE,

LIBERALISM that affects our own individual lives more all the time.

It is so convenient to continue to label the world as dangerous, but seriously how many Americans do you here of getting attacked abroad. It is ridiculus to continue pushing this fear based agenda! Please jump out of your bunkers and put your assault weapons down and look around! The real threats are all around us, a sinking economy, a housing and credit crisis, our reliance on foreign oil, our health care system. By no means am I saying the world is all kittens and rainbows, but stop with the fear factor! We have been fighting wars for what seems like ever and you can't make peace with more war. Wow Exxon-Mobil just had another record quarter as the republicans cut their taxes and subsidised them for millions. Wonderfull I am so happy for them as I struggle to pay my bills beacouse my income has plumeted thanks to this recession, and the 700 billion spent on Iraq who hates us yes let's elect McCain so we can continue this downward spiral. I have volunteered for Obama in Pennsylvania several times and the enthusiasm level for him there is AMAZING. Yesterday, I started working in Ohio, expecting that I would get a lot of hostility because I was in a VERY Republican small town, but it turns out that about 70% of everyone I talked to had already voted, and already voted for Obama.

If Obama wins either Pennsylvania or Ohio, McCain will be conceding the election by 11 pm.

I'm a 21-year old, evangelical Christian living in downtown Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, and I am a committed supporter of Senator Obama. I know that this state is going for Obama, by a large margin, at least based on the excitement that is being showcased in this area for Senator Obama. The demographics here are intriguing - we are an abnormally small city, yet we are the capital of a large state with a dynamic influence in the political scene. The residents of Harrisbug are ready for a change, and not the kind of change Senator McCain wants to bring.

Umm...I live in Scranton, PA and these polls are way off base. This is Hilary country and there are countless democrats in this are who won't vote for Obama if he is the last socialist left. We're bombarded by Obama every single second.... when pollsters call we tell them we're voting Obama to get the off of our backs. It's not fun being called racists because we won't vote for the man. His ties and policies are out of control.

As we mature we realize that elections have more significance than we had earlier assumed. This year's election has proven this through a long and agonizing process of compelling sounds around us. These sounds envelope depths touching all of us, oftentimes beyond comprehension and are neither isolated nor, at times, related to one another. They do reach, however, a commonality disturbing to us all.

There are sounds of fearful apprehension. There are sounds of hopeful expectation. There are sounds of disturbing accusation. There are sounds of calculated presumption. They are sounds of unfulfilled analysis, due to their complexity in our process to recognize intention and integrity which we hope will satisfy our reach for inner core beliefs similar to our own. The sounds of one or more of these must touch each of you, although differently, but are nonetheless profound for each of us.

One sound among these is the sound of lost children -- in pain, abandoned and inhumanely destroyed through a politically-correct system of pro-choice abortion sympathizers forced upon us by our own statesmen, who otherwise loudly profess compassion in saving all humanity on the planet from their own specific tyrannies. These same legislators are practicing in succession a liberalism with unclear objective which is over the top, worsening and unsettling to voters.

Which brings me to the next deafening sound of impending policies we are already witnessing in our everyday lives, while awaiting the certainty of promise for more: liberalism, socialism, allocation -- words of synonymous value. I do not understand the illogical growing popularity of these sounds in a country which I remain convinced true logic will prevail. But they resound too often, and have, subliminally, become trendy and acceptable.

There is no sound louder than the hush of conservatism. Its sound is faint, but it is a prevailing sound within the depths of us all and does not lose tone. Let us keep the music in tune.

I am 41 years old and have lived in PA my entire life. I live in Harrisburg and can tell you I see Obama signs all over the place. They far out number the McCain signs. Also, I know many people who plan to vote for Obama. The very rural (lower population) areas of PA will probably vote McCain, but the citys and the majority will go to Obama. PA voted for the Democrat in the past several elections and we will do so again, We voted for Gore and Kerry and this time we will vote for Obama. McCains message does seem to get through to the very religious, more isolated regions of the area. However, the majority of us are fed up and voting for change. GoBama!!!

I guess Benlucar hasn't turned on his/her t.v. set in about a month to see what is happening on Wall St. and doesn't see For Sale signs and rising foreclosures and just doesn't get that deregulation is the cause. We have government for a reason. Sorry, but if Palin is so against "big government" maybe she should officially become the Caribou Barbie for her uneducated, DUI-getting, I-once-wanted-to-succeed-from-the-U.S. husband and see how our country turns out. I guess Benlucar also doesn't see that schools across the country and various state-funded programs critical to our cities and citizens have NO BUDGET. There has to be reform instead of this "no tax" ignorance. No one wants to pay taxes or higher ones, at that, but to twist the reality that has been discussed and presented TIME and TIME again just shows plain ignorance. Sorry, but this American refuses to let Palin "sound bite" me with her half-truths and purposeful elimination of key points to the entire story. After having recent surgery that literally took less than 2 minutes in an O.R. and seeing what the hospital billed my insurance ($9,000 for use of the O.R.), we need health care reform! With relatives in Europe, we've seen for years how well their health care system works for them. Again, let's compare the strength of the Euro to our weak, weak dollar. Unless you're going in a U.S. voting booth, why don't you mind your own business? As for your comment re: self-responsibility (and your opinion of Obama's lack thereof), I don't think we've seen a better example of a reversal of self-responsibility than Palin who has a teenage daughter who gets herself knocked up by a foul-mouthed hoodlum. If she was truly parenting and making sure the "conservative values" she touts were engrained within her household like many an educationed, God-fearing, Church-going "liberal" do, she wouldn't have to worry about making sure that the laws did it for her.

I rarely even frequent sites with such an unbelieveable liberal bias as MSNBC however since I am still looking to see if the mainstream media has the nerve to actually pick up the LA Times story (which obviously they still do not and Obama's free pass continues), my curosity was peaked by an article dealing with Pa. and the area in which I live.

My reason for posting is simple. This article in no way represents the area that I live in. The writer is claiming that this is a red area turned Obama stronghold...more Obama signs than McCain....is he serious?? Obviously he was not in the state Tuesday when thousands of us stood in the middle of a Noreaster to show support of McCain and Palin as they traveled here. Obviously he did not talk to enough people nor truly drive into the suburbs of the city to see the real reflection of the area.

Reading this made me sick...but also so sad for the amount of people who continue to take the mainstream media spin as the truth. And for those people who are not educated on Obama's socialist/marxist beliefs, have not researched his connections with people who do not have American's best interest at heart, and do not take issue with his inability to tell the truth or make a solid decision against his party's lines if necessary - then I hope you get what you want.

But you had better be very careful for what you wish for.

McCain Will Do Anything to Steal the Election

With ten days to go until the election, its possible theft via the White House invading Syria just in time to jigger voter focus towards the national security issue that favors McCain should not be taken lightly. For the conservatives' success with this October surprise or other skullduggery to steal the election would leave Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from having her finger on the button that launches our nuclear missiles. She has been just what her boss, John McCain, needed, her practiced-in-the-mirror smile the perfect accessory for this inanely dumb broad who would distract us from all the important issues of the election and from the conservatives' efforts to steal the election by race baiting and any other means they feel necessary. They will stop at nothing.

Palin is a Caribou Barbie robo-doll with the brain function removed. The thought of her with her finger on the button about to launch a nuclear attack to satisfy the divine will of God should be disturbing enough to make us work that much more furiously to get out the vote for Obama on Election Day and to protect against every form of deceptive ballot disqualification the conservatives will employ. A stolen election for McCain-Palin is not that farfetched. Nor is the prospect of McCain dying, given that melanoma is such a powerfully recurring and deadly cancer. Nor is nuclear Armageddon at the hands of an evangelical Palin to whom God whispers direction and commands.

We can nip this not so farfetched scenario in the bud by making sure that the Republican power coming ultimately from Crawford, Texas, does not turn our nation into Kenya and Zimbabwe on Election Day. If we fail to prevent a Republican election theft, we may not have to wait for a President Palin to press the button, for John McCain is no less fruity in the head when it comes to making war, as is made clear by his gleeful support of the unnecessary Iraq War despite its murdering and crippling of 30,000 American kids and a million Iraqis, many of them women and children. McCain would have little to lose at his age by pressing the button, especially when compared to his desire for revenge on the Russians who sponsored the Vietnam War that he was a prisoner of war in. Let's get out the vote for Obama and do everything needed to protect the ballots on Election Day.

I live in red area PA also (lancaster/harrisburg area) and I am amazed at all of the support for Obama in this region.I think that is Mccain's real problem. He will never be able to make up for the margins in Philly with the other regions of the state. I don't think Obama is having as much of a problem in Northeastern PA either as a lot of pundits are saying. They care about the economy more than anything else. Everything else really is just talk. I am getting out the vote for the first time because i don't want 2000 and 2004 to happen all over again. i am very confident that we can do this.

The first two are clear, non-deniable examples of people in power who were corrupt and there is no denying his close associations with both of them; the second was the ringleader of schemes which resulted in the financial expense and ruin of thousands of Americans. And, McCain was his political sweetheart.

With the past few weeks where our country almost dittoing the Wall St. tragedy of the Great Depression, we can't afford to have someone in office who puts his fat cat, hob-nobbing ahead of what's best for the American economy and it's citizens. He's had years of these associations. This quarter, we've seen and millions of American's 401Ks and financial accounts have felt what this does to us.

There's nothing more un-American than financially colonizing the country and that's the path where the Bush administration has us clearly headed. And, McBush has a track record of bowing down and kissing backside to these rich, corporate constituents.

Perhaps Palin should actually read a paper and not be so "maverick." Getting up at a podium and demanding the L.A. Times do something is lame when her very own running mate also has associations with the same man's organizations (for years!).

I KNOW WHAT I WISH FOR. And, it's not a sequel to this Bush horror flick.

I used to like Obama. I did find his speeches rousing; if nothing else, he is an amazing orator. After listening to his words and looking at his record though, I have realized there is nothing there beyond the rhetoric. I don't know why, over a year into this campaign, many people are still "inspired" by the empty promise of Obama. He has:

1. No experience; he hasn't even held a real job let alone accomplish anything in the Senate. Two years as a Senator before starting his campaign and not one major piece of legislation or evidence of bipartisanship. McCain has 20+ years in the Senate and served the country in the Navy. He has voted along party lines often, but he also has a record of bipartisanship on major issues.

2. No principles. He was against offshore drilling but then supported it when it suited him to. He supported an undivided Jerusalem the day before he backtrackted on that position. This man is willing to say anything and wants to be all things to all people. I don't buy it. I would rather disagree with a candidate on a couple of issues, but know where he stands, over having a President that does whatever the political winds tell him to.

3. No sense of reality. Seriously, who is this Obama chracter anyway? He came out of nowhere and suddenly he thinks he is qualififed to be President. Every other Democratic candidate had more experience than he does. Hillary and Biden have both said McCain has more experience and is more ready to be President. Some people compare Obama to JFK. They are not even close. JFK served in World War 2 and was a congressman for 6 years and a senator for 8 years before he became President.

4. No understanding of the economy. Obama wants to raise taxes on the wealthy, small businesses, and corporations. He also wants to increase dividend taxes and capital gains taxes. This is exactly the wrong policy in a time economic distress. Rasing taxes will end up lowering economic growth and investment and will acutally erode the tax base. I think everyone can agree that getting the economy back on track requires job creation above all else. Raising taxes on business and invesetment will kill the prospect of job creation. If you give a wealthy investor one incremental dollar, he will go out and invest or start a business, both of which create jobs. If you give a poor person one incremental dollar of welfare (Obama's "tax cut" for people who pay no tax is just a government hand out), he will probably go buy some product he doesn't need that was made in China.

5. No understanding of what has made this country great. If you listen to what Obama says, he sounds like a socialist: spreading the wealth around, universal healthcare, and government giving a lot of promises from the cradle to the grave. Limited government is the underlying principle of the the Constitution and one of the main reasons the Revolution was fought. This country was built by hard work, entrepreneurship, and the right to keep the fruits of your labor. Obama wants government to become a bigger and bigger part of our lives, but then again, I guess he needs to expand the government payroll and start new welfare programs because he knows that his economic policies will destroy private enterprise and real job creation in this country.

I don't love John McCain, but I respect his service to this country in the military and his many years in the Senate. We face great challenges at this point in history; it is better we have a steady hand in McCain than an untested, inexperienced, misguided, Obama.

He is very open about h is two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan. During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, nex t Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family. My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know wha t the tuition is at Columbia? It's not cheap to say the least! Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia, he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000 a year. Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York.

By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and a real estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the money for Law School? More student loans? After Law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which is Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With=2 0ALL those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.

Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran! Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?

On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley, advisor to Obama, was 'sacked' after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas', which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran. This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'Take care of things'.

Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan? They are in charge of all those 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East?

It sickens me that members of the media can use their positions to forward their own agendas. Much like the talking heads on MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC...etc....Mr. Fineman has chosen to paint a picture that is skewed from reality. And since most folks watching, or reading these articles, assume that “since it’s on the news, it must be true” they are falling unknowingly into this game of the media swaying votes to Mr. Obama. The problem with this story is that I live in the very area to which Mr. Fineman refers. What I’m seeing everyday isn’t what he claims to be true. I’m seeing far greater support around here for Senator McCain than I am for Senator Obama. Like a previous comment mentioned, I too waited in a driving rain storm for over 2 hours, along with THOUSANDS of others to hear Senator McCain this week. As we stood there it was surprising to find out that there were many, many democrats standing in line with me who will be voting for McCain. This same scene happened at rallies in several Pennsylvania towns this week. Also, as I drive around PA, I see far more McCain signs than Obama signs and most people I talk to plan on voting for McCain and not Obama. Therefore, the media is continually beating this same drum that various races are over with the hope that McCain supporters will figure “why bother” and not vote. Or with the hope that they will influence some folks still sitting on the fence to back Obama, since “obviously, that’s that everyone else is doing”. Mr. Fineman is entitled to his opinion and can back whatever candidate he so chooses. However, when doing your job, Mr. Fineman, please try to demonstrate SOME ethics and report things how they actually exist, not how you wish they were playing out.

Hey "benluclar", I'm voting for Obama, so now you know two! And, I've got a sign in my front window.

I am not certain where in PA "benluclar" resides, but in my town of Middletown, down river from Harrisburg, the number of Obama signs is very impressive for such a redneck little place, I'm proud of it! I mean, we still have plenty of good old boys w/the stars/bars on their gas suckin pick-ups, so it is very reassuring.

Obviously "benluclar" has not driven down along the banks of the Susq. River lately, but I have and it is a beautiful picture. Gives one faith that we the people are not as stupid as assumed, that we have saw what the republicans want to do to us and we are not buying it any longer, we've suffered enough and that we're no longer into this brand of 'dumbed-down' politics that BUSH and PALIN represent, the brand that the "don't cha bet cha now" crowd cheers for.

Maybe he lives up in Potter Co or another small rural county (Juniata/Perry), where yes, I've only seen a few Obama signs, but with a population of 18K, are we really worried about how Potter County goes. Remember, as Philadelphia goes, so goes the Commonwealth.

Dauphin County, smack dab in the heart of the 'T' now has a Democrat registration majority. That's got to bug the wingnuts and maybe it explains the desperation and the repetativeness of the spew we've heard, and rejected, that "benluclar" has once again, fed us today.

Reasons that McCain is behind

1. Gimmcks like Hockey Moms, and Joe the Plumber only appeal to a spectrum of America.

2. Deciding on who is a "real american" and who is not, is somewhat narrow focused and insults those of us who just happen to live outside what you consider real america. Real America is in your heart, not your geography.

3. Having Sarah Palin do 3 interviews with Sean Hannity, but none with Wolf Blitzer or Tom Brokaw, or Bob Schiefer does not spread your msg beyond the red meat crowd.

4. Having Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram all declare their support of you publically turns more people off than you realize.

5. Instead of concentrating on why you are better than your opponent, you concentrated on why your opponent was worse than you. I do not care about these associations that are tenuous at best, and flimsy for the most part. His policies may be wrong, but Barack Obama is not a terrorist, communist sympathizer, socialist, or dangerous. You tried to scare people into voting for you, not inspire them.

6. Did you make any attempt to reach out? Did you attend a black church, visit a jewish synagouge, listen to hispanic groups like La Raza? Or did you simply stay within your own narrow archaic confines of who is an american?

I know most will not take this to heart, and there is already talk of Palin 2012 by Karl Rove, Sean Hannity, etc.... Remember when you do the same thing the same way, you get the same result.

I live in central PA and to all those who can't find a person here who is voting for Obama, count me in. And I can point you to many other people who are to. In fact, I can't find one person who is voting for McCain.

And speaking of rallies, I stood in a line last winter, freezing my pants off, that streched from the Obama campaign office in Hbg, down State Street and around the Capitol, just to get a chance to see him speak. I'd call that drawing a crowd.

And to Hillary supporters in "Hillary Country" calling Obama a socialist....that's laughable. Hillary was and is the biggest proponent of socialized healthcare...so how a Hillary supporter can call Obama a socialist is beyond me....they believe the same things. There's only one thing Hillary and McCain share...I'll let you figure that one out.

Socialism as a philosophy of production based needs sounds better, but who determines those needs? The government? Why do they know best? Isn't that suddenly another elite class? Why would they ever give up power? The power to determine production and the power of government should not be concentrated in the same hands.

Socialism sets us on a slippery slope to totalitarianism whereas Capitalism helps ensure democracy by seperating those that determine production and those that govern us.

The people who listen only to Fox (fair & balanced) Laughable!!! call the other media biased. I have never seen or heard so much bias, and hatred in my 60 years than i've heard on Fox. We listen to these conservative stations just to see exactly what they are saying. They are spewing hatred and division. They forced McCain to pick an unknown, un- vetted Conservative Governor to reach their base---That's all they have done is reach "theirbase" This country is made up of all peoples, all religions, all colors, creeds, ages, sexes etc. Obama is connecting with more than one group of people (and has reached some of the conservatives). Palin is not prepared to be President. That is the job of the Vice President. 15 months as a governor of a State with a population smaller than most small cities is not experience--you need to have some knowledge and intellegence of other world issues. And be able to understand the english language--more words than gotcha-dude and a wink here and there. I'll be gald when this election is over and I believe there are enough people of races and all walks of life to Vote for Obama.

But the only completely misguided part of your response is that he is far-left. The only people who see him as far-left are themselves far-right (in a center-right country that has no actual left).

Capitalism maximizes investment precisely because it isn't concerned with needs.

Socialism does a fine job of policing the well-paved streets. It doesn't innovate very well. But then we are innovating ourselves out of planet unless we find a leader who makes the changes we need. Those changes are not socialist. They are just changes.

Neither philosophy is more or less likely to cause or prevent totalitarianism. That's simply regurgitated pabulum. We live in a “mostly capitalist” society, but we still lost the primary civil right (Habeas Corpus) under a right-wing “capitalist”.

To all the "Joe The Plubmer Fans---If he would read the Obama economic plan, he would find out he would be better off. But, McCain and crew have used him to try to further there cause--another act of just reaching one base---He has a terrible campaign staff. The only way McCain wins this race is if the Republicans succeed in attempting to disfranchise voters. Obama had a strong ground campaign that didn't need "Acorn" to register voters for them. Voters were inspired to register themselves. The Acorn workers were trying to make money by filling out forms with anything on them. If the Registrars at the polling places are doing their jobs, Mickey Mouse won't be voting!!!! But, the repubs will try anything to Win or Steal an election, we've seen it before.

I can tell a great many of you actually believe Hannity and Limbaugh--that's sad. In 2000 McCain was the Media Darling- Now he calls them biased. All of you need to look in the mirror or at least stop rejecting the "real" reasons you are voting for McCain--a 72 yr old with a serious illness, who has chosen an unintelligent hockey mom in an attempt to sway the "Hillary" voters (who aren't stupid) by the way. When I read things like Pailn actually giving back to the citizens of Alaska as socialism - I have to laugh. And oh yes..I am a teacher and it is only because I have done my research on both canidates..have a political science degree..understand wealth distribution..socialsim....and capitalism....and also own my own small business whose wealth I would really rather keep for myself and my own family, not for some government program that I may or may not endorse....that I am extremely qualified to post my educated (which means I have looked at both sides) opinions here..

However...if you want to just take what the mainstream throws at you and use that as your basis for argument...more power to you. That is what makes American great....there is room for all of us....even the uninformed.

I have read a lot of post from many different sites and one thing that I see is in a lot of post is the people that are voting rep. generally are doing the same thing as the McCain campain and it seems to be a lot more negitive towards Obama and the ones voting for Obama seem to have hope and alot less negitive. You don't have to take my word for just go forth and read some for yourself.

I think McCain would had a chance to win if he not made the dumbest choice of his polictal career and that was pick Mrs. Palin as a VP. She does not even know what the job duties are for the VP spot and that makes alot of folks wonder how in the world will she know what the Presidents job is.

You again do not have to take my word on this either just read the poll number on this question. I hope she does run in 2012 as she will be sent packing again.

Anyone who believes this socialism mumbo jumbo is ridiculous. The same policies that McCain is trashing Obama for are policies that McCain himself has voiced in the past when campaigning for the nomination in 2000. His name-calling has reduced the tone of the entire campaign season to soundbytes and one-liners, and is only playing on the fears of the uninformed. I used to genuinely respect him, as his stances on many issues that were averse to the neo-con way of thinking are what made him a "maverick" in the first place. Now even that word has been reduced to a soundbyte and stripped of its meaning. He's now pretty much relying solely on negative attacks and mischaracterizations to pull him through, and it reeks of desperation.

I thought he had an edge when this first started based on his experience and Obama's lack thereof, but his decisions have been baffling - the selection of Palin being a shining example. He at times is grossly negative toward Obama, and then will show him some random nugget of respect in an apparent effort to appease the middle-of-the road folks who have come to like Obama. You can't have it both ways. With how his campaign has been run, it begs the question - how on earth would he run the country?

I grew up in the area near Johnstown and my family still lives there. While I am a staunch Obama / Biden supporter, my family is firmly in the McCain camp - and when I ask them why they choose McCain over Obama, they can't give me a good reason. All of their friends in the area are voting for McCain, which is scary enough on one level, and the fact that it seems most are doing it because every one else they know is doing it frustrates me even more. I'm very sad to say it, but I think race is their issue and they won't admit it. And they think Obama is a closet Muslim, along with the other ridiculousness pushed by McCain (Ayers, Acorn, the PLO connections). It makes me very sad.

While there are several variations of a viral email that tries to blame a few thousands of political donations to some Democrats, the actual, legitimate news has reported that Fannie and Freddie paid many millions to Republican lobbyists to lobby Republicans to PREVENT REGULATION.

McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, received up to $35K/mo. from Fannie and Freddie from 2000 to present, to lobby Rs,only, against regulation. Freddie has paid Rick Davis while he has been McC's campaing manager. Freddie donated $250k to the R convention.

Is your most recent reposting here directed to fears about "Socialism", or is it just innuendo, or are we trying to fold in a little racism too?

I've got an idea, since we have no more ideas, let's keep running our campaign on fear, smears and hypocrisy.

What politician has not had some associates, either personal or professional, that most of us would consider to be inappropriate for someone holding or running for public office? All people in the political realm know somebody whom a lot of us would find to be unsavory. The question is this: how does the candidate carry him or her self? While it is true that you should watch the company you keep, it still does not mean that you are a bad person because someone you know is. That's why we all believe in the concept of personal responsibility. Those right wing fanatics out there who keep screaming bloody Mary over Obama's ties to this guy and that guy might want to consider McCain's ties to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, not to mention Charles Keating. This same man of honor ditched his first wife because she was injured in a car accident and instead married a rich barbie doll who he also called a "***" in public. Obama is not the Messiah, that's for sure, but McCain is no saint himself, and it is very telling that in a year in which people are losing their jobs, savings, and even their homes, the only thing that McCain and Palin can think to do is come up with new accusations to make Obama into the Bogeyman. Radical, terrorist, socialist; the list of names goes on and on. What the hell is Old Man With A Cain going to do for the folks who don't make $1 million a year?!? He can't put every "Joe Six-Pack" on the campaign trail. All he has proposed to do is give the rich more money, like we haven't tried that already. The Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. administrations have seen the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich in American history. I want the President to be someone who can think for himself and not rely exclusively like a blind person on a particular advisor. I want someone who understands numbers and can make analytical decisions himself. Years of computing payloads, fuel requirements, weather and distances as a pilot are the experiences that John McCain brings to the table when listening to economic proposals. His eyes will not glaze over when there are ten page budget spreadsheet proposals presented to him. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have no mathematical or quantitative education or experience between them.

They do not teach accounting in law school. That is why they offer basic basic accounting to attorneys as continuing education classes after they are licensed. I also am willing to bet that neither Barack Obama or Joe Biden never took a basic accounting continuing legal education class to improve their lack of skills.

Both Obama and Biden were political science majors as undergraduate which means they have no quantitative training or mathematical background. The average nurse who gives vaccinations or antibiotics shots have better computational and mathematical training than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama. A nurse knows not to give you a tenfold quantity of any particular drug and has a good foundation in mathematics. Similarly all pilots are trained in vectors and physics.

John McCain is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are mathematically challenged. Send them back to school.

Lawyers are wordsmiths by craft. Look at Barack Obama, he has written two books already at his early age. Ninety-nine percent of lawyers do not have the experience of pushing numbers around. Most lawyers are mathematically challenged. The solutions to our economic and budget crisis involve the understanding how our economy and banking system works. Economic and banking theory can not even be remotely understood without an ability to work with numbers with relative ease. John McCain like all pilots has proven mathematical ability and the quantitative experience to understand and find solutions to our economic problems. Instead of blindly relying on some advisor or group of advisors which has caused some of our economic problems, John McCain can step back on his own and make an independent judgment using his own computational skills whether a specific plan makes sense.

Most independent and undecided voters would not rest easy knowing that Biden or Obama can rely on what they learned in their civil procedure class to help you land safely and not run out of jet fuel during the trip. Pilots have proven analytical skills.

There is a saying that there are old and bold pilots but no old bold pilots. John McCain has that good judgment and he has the proven analytical skills to be able to tackle our budget problems. Barack Obama and Joe Biden can spend the next four years and take some accounting and economics continuing legal education classes.

After four years of academic coursework, then they might be able to throw their hat in the ring. Given their academic training, a trillion dollars may look the same as a million dollars on a budget spreadsheet.

John McCain is truly special and maybe his luck will rub off on the United States our country.

John McCain is a modern day King Arthur. Instead of pulling a sword out of stone, he has performed the modern day equivalent of surviving relatively unscathed five plane crashes including being shot down over Hanoi. Thousands of pilots have died in plane crashes and it takes real skill to crash land a plane and survive. If you look at the former Airtran and now defunct ValueJet 592 crash in the Florida swamp that killed everyone on board, it did not take a lot of skill to fly the plane nose down straight into the Florida swamp. The 911 United Flight crash in Pennsylvania is also proof of an unskilled crash landing where everyone was killed going nose down first. So John McCain’s having survived those crashes is a testament to his flying skills.

Like Evil Knievel the former motorcycle dare devil who also survived countless crashes, John McCain has survived five airplane crashes. Like Nascar drivers, who jump back in the cars after crashes John McCain has walked away and gotten back in the pilots seat. John McCain will drive and pilot our economy back to prosperity.

The Barack Obama campaign is dumb as a doorknob to raise Keating 5 and criticize John Glenn. You just put Ohio in the Red state column for the Republicans. The people of Ohio are proud of John Glenn, a former Marine Corp fighter pilot during World War II. John Glenn was awarded the Congressman Medal of Honor and flew aboard the space shuttle at the age of 77. The Barack Obama campaign should stop criticizing an 87 year old war hero John Glenn by raising the Keating 5 scandal that happened over twenty years ago. For two people who have no military service between them and have never worn the uniform, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have a lot of gaul to obliquely criticize a fellow Democrat and elder statesman and an 87 year old war hero and first man in space John Glenn. It is also pretty stupid to criticize an Ohio native son when Ohio is in play during this election. Does the Barack Obama campaign have to destroy the reputations of four Democratic Senators to lob an ineffectual attack against John McCain. Senator Alan Cranston is dead and can not even defend himself. Vote for John McCain, he respects veterans especially 87 year old fellow fighter pilots like John Glenn.

Please share with us why you believe, that McCain, who has been a part of the Republican stranglehold on government for the last 8 years (Exec, Senate AND House for 6 of those 8) and who has been a part of the problem has all of a sudden had this epiphany, and now can solve it all.

Please recall that Bill Clinton (apart from the mess of his personal life) left us with a final year budget surplus and shrinking deficits. After that, Republicans controlled the House, Senate and Presidency for the next 6 years (2000 - 2006). So how does one delude oneself into blaming this mess on the Democrats? I would love to hear just one Republican answer that questions.

The Republicans caused the mess and they have failed to address it. It is time for a real change, not just the "Maverick" platitudes coming out of the McCain campaign.

It is true that we do not know exactly what we will get with Obama.

It is also true that we know EXACTLY what we get with John McCain. And that is the problem.

The Republicans have had their chance for 8 years and created a total hash of the economy and international stability. Given the choice between possible failure (a vote for Obama) and demonstrated and guaranteed failure (a vote for McCain), I will take the chance on Obama any day.

I grew up in the part of Pennsylvania many of us from there call Pennsyltucky. Like Harrisburg, my town was right on the Susquehanna river. Both of my parents still live in that part of the state, and I still have friends in many of the old mill towns and industrial towns up and down the East Branch of the river - including Wilkes Barre, Scranton, Bloomsburg, and more. While neither me nor my brother live there any more - he's in Pittsburgh and I'm in the southeastern part of the state - we still joke about this reality today - to escape the Deep South, we both had to jump on the PA Turnpike and head either south on the NE Extension, or west to the 'Burgh..

Unfortunately, the issue IS race with the majority of PA people I know that I talk to about the election. There's not much else - many good jobs are long gone from the vast red middle of PA. There's nothing left but empty factories and mills and mines, bars and churches, and somebody - anybody - needs to anser for that. Unfortunately, in this part of PA, it's minorities who bear the brunt. Ask Lou Barletta, mayor of Hazleton PA now running a xenophobic campaign for Congress.

I'm not saying that anyone in PA who votes for McCain is doing so because s/he is racist. But I'm saying that there are going to be a huge number of PA voters for whom Obama's race is too large an issue for them to overlook. And that's a fact. I know that because it's where I grew up and those were the people I knew and still know today. It's also one of the big reasons I left.

This is also pervasive in other areas too. My in-laws live in a very affluent Northern NJ neighborhood in Morris county, and my mother-in-law won't vote for Obama because "she doesn't trust him, he's Muslim, Arab, terrorist," blah blah, etc. So I'm not saying it's just PA. But to discount race in PA's race is foolish and completely unrealistic. I've been all over the country, and as a fair-skinned, light-haired blue-eyed guy of German-Irish ancestry and a northeast/central PA background (if not birth), I can tell you that I've not been to many other parts of the country as xenophobic and racist as PA. Period.

What politician has not been associated with unsavory individuals? It's true you should watch the company you keep, but the truth is that every person that has held, is holding, or is currently running for public office has or has had some questionable associations with people most of us would consider inappropriate. Right wingers who keep crying foul and claiming Obama to be the Anti-christ are not only insane, but willfully ignorant of the fact that their boy McCain is nobody's angel. This is the same man who had Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in his back pockets for years, and has also been seen "palling around" with crooks like Charles Keating. This same man of honor ditched his first wife after she had been injured in a car accident to marry a rich Barbie doll who he later called a "c---" in public.

Obama is NOT the Messiah, and as far as I have heard, no one is calling him that, but McCain is far from a saint. He is just as crooked as the republicans claim Obama is, and since he has had the benefit of so many years of experience in the Senate, he really should be able to display better judgment, which clearly he has not. In fact, all Old Man With A Cain and his Alaskan cheerleader have managed to do in the last six weeks is try to make Obama into the Bogeyman. "Radical", "terrorist", "socialist", and now, "redistributor"; the list of names and labels goes on and on. It is very telling that in a year in which people are losing their jobs, savings, and homes, the republicans can offer America nothing but scapegoats to keep the burden of responsibility off of their own shoulders. What the hell is Old Man With A Cain going to do to help the working man? He can't put every "Joe Six-Pack" on his campaign trail, especially when it has been proven to Sam the non-licensed Plumber that since he makes less than $250K a year, he won't be affected at all under Obama's tax plan. All McCain will offer us is more money for the rich, like that method hasn't already failed us. The Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. administrations have overseen the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle classes to the rich in American history. If anyone is guilty of redistributing wealth, it's the republicans.

To mccainsupporter - McCain was an "ok" pilot - crashed a few pretty expensive planes in his time. My son is an Air Force Pilot and an engineer. While a pretty smart man - he is sometime out of his element when not in the cockpit. It takes people skills to fly the plane that is this country - McCain showed his lack of those by going totally negative - Presidential campaigns are basically long (very) long job interviews. I don't know many people that go into an interview jsut to trash the competition. Tell me why i should hire you - do not spend my time by telling me why i shouldn't hire someone else. It's about the issues - i really don't care about who either of the candidates may have met, drank with, slept with etc. I do care about why each person believes that they can lead this nation.

Take the crap out of the campaign and stand on your own two feet - if you are the better candidate and can make that point - you win - if not you loose. Made up stories such as "he" is a muslim (shouldn't matter) he knows Bill Ayers or the Keating Five - big whoop! Stay on target people. However, to give the props to "mccainsupporter" judgement does matter and by picking Palin McCain showed none! He had my vote until he announced her as his choice - I am also a military retiree and have great repect for the things he has done in his life - but, his time has past.

The day after Bush won the last election, the media began a campaign to put the Democrat's in office this election. After 8 years of the Bush administration, I think we need a different path. As a democratic nation, we have the opportunity to relect someone else 4 years from now if we are unhappy with Obama. We can elect new senators and congressman sooner than that.

During the Democratic presidencies the NRA didn't lose their right to bear arms, churches were not told what to preach and the "right to chose" means just that. Life will not stop and hell will not rain down upon our nation because we have elected a black moderate president.

I'm convinced that Republicans need to split their party into several different parties. Many countries have 4,5 or 6 parties instead of our two party system. The first party would be the so-called "Christian Conservatives" who cannot accept anything in the USA but narrow-minded, bible-thumping Christians who want to remove a woman's right to choose. The second party would be led by "BIG OIL", pharmaceutical companies, big telecom and "DEREGULATORS" like McCain. War profiteers like VP Cheney could join this second group also. The third group would be filled with racists, low-information-voters and those clinging to their old ways, guns-n-bibles including those who hang on the words of divisive UN-Americans like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Michael Savage. Thank you to everyone for playing along today and tonight. I have learned more about the american people than I really wanted my classes to know. My students are shocked at the hate speech that has been flung from both sides. I am not sure when disagreeing with a canidate resulted in name calling and tearing each other down. Part of being an American is to have the freedom to say what you feel...and while everyone may not like it....it should be respected. This forum lacks respect from all sides.

So thank you for helping my classes conduct this experiment....however you may have caused more damage with the next young voting pool than you expected. They are a little disillusioned right now.

So...for those of you who questioned whether or not I really was a teacher...yes I am. And for those of you who questioned if I knew the difference between socialism and marxism...I do. You played into my lesson perfectly...

America asks for a king

I am an attorney and professor of law and entrepreneurship, so I usually confine my commentary to matters of public policy, and leave theology to those who have chosen that field of study. But since today is Sunday, I will take the liberty of making an observation with a more Biblical bent.

As one who has taught entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking for nearly ten years, I am distressed by the apparently overwhelming sentiment sweeping Americans that they must now be taken care of. I know from years of studying the matter that a society in which most members are – or can be – entrepreneurial, is a society where upward mobility is the rule; where wealth is created – not just “spread around”; where hope is common currency; where the inevitable problems are viewed as opportunities to find sustainable solutions, and where those solutions are typically new industries, new companies, and new jobs. An entrepreneurial society is a society where most people wish to, and know they can, take care of themselves, their families, and even others in need. Where charity and philanthropy are fellow-travelers with success.

Joe the Plumber’s exposure of Obama’s “spread the wealth” philosophy exploded like a flash fire, not only because that philosophy is utterly anti-American, but because it is shortsighted, and immoral. It is short-sighted, because in an economy that is a bit battered and fragile, what we need are more businesses, more workers, and more wealth creation in the private sector, not more government programs and more people dependent upon them. It is short-sighted because it is a failed business model. And, as we saw with the collapse of major lending institutions a few weeks ago, a failed business model, made larger (or “spread around,” if you prefer) by government, is not just a failure, but a catastrophic failure. So it was with the irresponsible lending practices foisted on American banks by the government, and so it will be with the irresponsible spending and doomed reliance on government largesse that Obama and the Democrats are peddling as salvation.

And the inevitability of its failure is why Obama’s philosophies are not just foolhardy, but immoral. It is immoral to deceive well-meaning people about what you intend to do with their money. It is immoral to take by force from those who produce, give to others who do not, and call it “charity.” It is staggeringly immoral to create an ever-larger class of dependent, helpless people who will be doomed to starve when the unsustainable system you have created collapses. And most of all, it is profoundly immoral to set yourself up as a secular messiah of sorts, assuring people that you will take care of them, eliminate hardship, heal the planet, and hold enemies at bay by the sheer force of your own hypnotic rhetoric.

Obama’s economic and social theories have been debunked and disproven (at great human cost) so many times over the past 100 years that it’s laughable anyone still believes in them. But at least his designs on the country are understandable. Those who crave power will use any tactic, as long as it works.

It’s the fact that it’s working that is inscrutable to me. And this is where the Biblical references come in. Americans’ attitude toward this posturing, self-important, political zealot remind me of the Israelites’ demand for a king, as recounted in the Book of Samuel:

When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges for Israel. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not walk in his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do." Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots … He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king." (1 Samuel 8:1-22)

The comparisons are telling: Americans are understandably fed up with corruption, greed, and perversion of justice in our leaders. But till now, we have asked for no king, because we could take care of ourselves, and because we have always been a godly people. But look around now – our children languish in failing, crumbling, unsafe, and undisciplined schools, many of which are merely bastions of social experimentation. Our cities are riddled with crime. Our families are devastated by divorce, abuse, illegitimacy, absent fathers, and definitions of “marriage” that fluctuate with the sexual predilections du jour. Our culture – books, films, music – is saturated with violence and perversion that even the smallest child is exposed to. And of course, one cannot forget – the high watermark of freedom and femininity, and the litmus test of liberty for the Left is the unfettered right to kill our own children in our wombs (or leave them to die outside of them).

This is what we, as a nation, have brought ourselves to. These are problems that no amount of social spending will cure, and any promise to do so is a lie, because no amount of money will change people’s hearts. And yet, instead of reaching deep within ourselves to find the solutions, we now whine and mewl for someone to save us.

And here he comes, Barack Obama, on a “righteous wind.”

As with anyone who would be king, Obama will take our money and our property in ever-larger amounts. Our children will be saddled with debt and beholden to a bloated government that will enslave the very people it promised to help. We will be at the mercy of our enemies. And no matter how bleak or desperate our own lives becomes, the leaders in Obama’s government will always thrive; such people always do. Nor is any of this is unique to Obama; it is in the nature of every king, and every government, which is why our government was originally set up to be limited, both to protect us, and to ensure our own self-reliance.

John McCain will not be a perfect President. But it is not necessary for the leader of a free, righteous, and entrepreneurial people to be perfect. I can support John McCain because he asks only that I vote for him, not that I worship him. And I will vote for John McCain on November 4th, not because he would be a better king, but because he does not claim to be one at all.

Neither McCain nor Obama is a king who will save us; we must turn instead to the only One who can.

Anita Moncrief, a former Washington staffer for Project Vote, which she described as a sister organization of...ACORN, said her supervisor told her the list of campaign contributors came from the Obama campaign." The Philadelphia Inquirer adds Moncrief "gave a scathing, though at times vague, assessment of ACORN and its efforts to go into battleground states and help mostly minorities and the poor register to vote for the first time. The group, she said, barely trained its workers in how to register voters properly, and would fire employees if they did not meet a quota of 20 new voter applicants daily."

Obama in this video is campaigning at a convention of Acorn and I believe two other Community Activist's organizations less than a year ago, in December 2007. Ask if he will be their ally if he becomes President and pledge to meet with leaders of Acorn and the others in his first year, Obama, who we are told has no contact to Acorn (another lie), not withstanding the $800,000 his campaign paid an Acorn group during the primaries, says, quote:

"Yes, but let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition, we are going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda."

Pennsylvania is a must-win state for Obama. It will keep McCain from winning the White House. We cannot afford four more years of the same economic policies under a McCain administration. This country needs a new face in the White House and Barack Obama is that new face that will bring change and reform to this country.

I am a Pennsylvanian myself and I understand the demographics of this state. All of my friends and my immediate family are supporters of Obama. However, the area in which I live has a mix of Obama and McCain supporters. Some streets have more McCain yard signs along them than Obama signs and other streets are the opposite. From what I have been told, there are now more registered democrats in the county in which I live than there are registered republicans. This is a first since the 1980s. It's very likely that Obama will win the popular vote in my county.

The bottom line, I feel confident that Obama will win Pennsylvania. The majority of his supporters will probably be from Erie, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. He will likely win in those areas. I also believe that he will win right in the middle of the state. A lot of the students at Penn State University are Obama supporters. Obama may also win in the Scranton area because of his running mate Joe Biden's roots there. He also has the support of Senators Hillary Clinton (D-New York) and Bob Casey, Jr (D-Pennsylvania), who also have roots in Scranton. Harrisburg is also a possibility. Our own Governor Ed Rendell is also an Obama supporter and I believe that he can stir up a lot of votes.

I am a retired high school chemistry teacher who worked in the private schools and I don't have an income over $250K. Show me a teaching job that pays that much and I'll be coming out of retirement; amen.

Because I have taught thousands of kids and dealt with just as many parents, I know when I see a flake, empty promise that looks good; that humble kid who will work his butt off to get an A...yeap..

There was a time when the wealth was spread around. We know it as "the fifties". It was the apex of conservative values and officially "the good ole days" for many. That culture was the result of a well-paid middle class. Even David Frum acknowledges that the electorate skews left when inequality rises. Just as the economic crises is a result of greedy rich folks, so is this liberal swing. Once the wealth has been spread a little, we will probably swing back. It was ever thus.

How truly unfortunate that a few hate mongerers can hide behind their keyboard and spout their sickening dribble. Let them stand among those they accuse and see how brave they are. They certainly can try to incite fear - but I do believe that the majority of people see through this.

More incidious is that the traditional model of keeping the general populace 'in fear' and divided has worked extremely well for the eliteists of both parties - until now. As long as the population is kept in fear of something and divided, then we can be controlled and herded. Hope, on the other hand, is the elitests' fear. Going back in history those in control use fear and division to keep a population from effecting change. But a population (97% of us) with hope has certain expectations that need to be met by the establishment. If those expectations are not met then civil disobedience - non-violent or violent - is a likely outcome. Examples are the Cold War and the threat of the spread of communism and nuclear attack. Keep us afraid of communists and a nuclear attack and we do what we're told. Today it's terroism. Look at the behavior of the establishment in violating rights of Americans and their impunity from the law. Yes, we do have a constant threat of terroism. And 9/11 was an horrific event - and my heart has always gone out to the victims and their families. However, if we compare that event to what is happening in parts of the world on a daily basis - I don't believe we must behave like we are under constant terrorist attack.

When African Americans fought for their right to be recognized it wasn't until there was actual violent rebellion that the establishment relented. Women had to protest and march to gain the right to vote. It wasn't until a million 'hippies' marched on Washington that the Vietnam war was brought to a close. And we know now that our establishment new it wasn't winnable - but my friends died anyway. Whenever the people get upset enough and are close to actually forcing the establishment out - they relent and throw us a bone. Like the $600 (maximum amount) 'rebate' we were given. Rebate? I think I'll be paying more taxes for that.

While I am a true independent voter (I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal) I wouldn't be shocked that Obama loses a close election. The establishment of both parties have a lot to lose with his election. Obama has changed the rules and is using the system against them. He is his own person, for the most part. He didn't pick Hillary, which the vastmajority of people agree that if he had, he asuured himself of winning the election. McCain on th eother hand, sold out to the far right by picking Palin. These two deciions tells me much about the charfacter of each.

He said McCain is focusing on people who's minds are warped enough to believe the twisting and magnifying of it to bolster his own campaign. And he also stated that there are a lot of warped minds out there that will believe anything you tell them. If Obama farted in the middle of his rally McCain would talk about that too. To be such a 'Maverick' he sure does give a new meaning to the true definition of a REAL one. He's a Maverick alright, such so that he has a vice presidential pick that doesn't even know the role of her job, but could tell you how much the shoes cost at Macy's where they spent YOUR contribution dollars, so spreading the wealth around sure to me looked like it started not with Joe the plumber but Sarah the Spender.

You would understand that her unlikely rise is his doings. She is a human being she is going to make mistakes, but they will not keep her down. You would understand that McCain should never have been with us many times over, but has been marked perhaps for this day in history. You would understand by reading Barak's book, He has chosen his path. It is by his knowledge and efforts to get this far. Dian, you can believe as you wish. God permits that, even though it will ultimately harm you. He doesn't want robots or zealots. He want you, to love him, and all those around you.

Laura, I don't intend to imply that your post is abusive; I just happened to hit this button because of the convenience it allowed. I find it curious that you've put yourself out there as an attorney, while yet maintaining views I believe lacking in objectivity. I will not take the precious time to refute your points, but will ask doesn't it bother you that McCain is trying win by smears, lies, and deceit? It goes without saying that lawyers, or rather, "too many lawyers," tend to engage in whatever practice that works to further their objectives; however, when such practice borders on, and even exceeds the common boundaries of decency, than such practice becomes morally reprehensible--although it might yet be thought defensible from the perspective of legal ethics.

I have responded to your post only because of your generous references to Christian Theology. I find it indeed sad that so many people claim adherence to the words of Christ, and yet condone lying, corruption, and character assassination. Say what you will about Obama's policies, but know that he's being advised by many of the most astute and honorable people in the country. And just as well, Obama and Biden have shown greater strength of character and honor than has the other side. Though I don't consider myself a Christian, if I had to choose one of the pair upon which to model ethically responsible behavior, it would not be McCain and Palin. Having said that, I cannot for the life of me, consider supporting people whom I know to be liars, and even worse it seems. What would they do in office?

I am a former student of science, and am now an attorney licensed in several states; I also hold a couple of law degrees that are more advanced than a J.D.; therefore, I believe I can think pretty clearly about these matters.

So sad to read thse comments and see that so many people who voted for Bush, haven't learned a thing. They would vote for hitler if he was anti abortion, anti taxes and anti union. He would of course have the solve all problems millitarily mindset that rednecks like. These are the people who still believe Iraq was involved in 911 and a nuke in time, saves nine.

The sad part is that either the Republican politicians are pandering to these looneys or they are looney themselves. A few good Republicans have said that Palin was the last straw and they are voting for the sensible candidate.

Obama has no ties to the PLO. It is easy enough to visit snopes.com and factcheck.org to see the real story.

Isn't it ironic how the "hard working real Americans" can't spend two minutes learning the truth, but would rather believe the first stack of hateful lies that hits their inbox?

BTW - there are no WMD in Iraq either. Saddam wasn't responsible for 9/11, didn't try to buy yellowcake, and gassed his citizens with our help. (It was our gas, and we were happy to sell it to them when they were gassing Iranians.)

Americans, ask yourself a few simple questions. As a registered Democrat, my first instinct was to vote Obama, but there are red flags popping up all around this man!

1. Why does Obama have so many radical, anarchist, socialist, marxist, middle eastern and otherwise dangerous family / friends? Every time we turn on the news, we are introduced to yet another shady character Barack Obama is involved with. Do we really want to elect Barack Hussein President when we always have to be concerned about his intentions / motives? We have NEVER before had a candidate where we had to question his alliance / loyalty to America. This is a very basic trust issue.

2. What is the Los Angeles Times hiding from Americans about Barack Obama's dinner meeting, just 6 months ago, with Bill Ayers (terrorist) and Khilidi (former member of terrorist palestinian liberation organization). The Los Angeles Times admits the video exists, but refuses to release it to be viewed by American voters. WHY??? Shouldn't we know everything about someone we are potentially going to elect President? The L.A. Times has endorsed Obama, so it stands to reason that they are trying to protect him by not showing what he did or said on that video. This is incredible that they refuse to show it. Ask yourself, WHY???? Could he be siding with these people on an issue that could hurt America? Could he be supporting some terrorist actions? Could he be intentionally deceiving us about Isreal? Maybe he wants to cut ties with our very important ally in the middle east. This would be EXTREMELY foolish and dangerous to America!

3. Why did Barack Obama recently visit Hawaii? He claimed it was to visit his ailing grandmother, who was on death's doorstep. Yet he didn't bring any of his family with him to say their last respects. We have not heard even a peep about her condition, or what he may have transpired between the two of them, does this not seem odd? It does to me. The news did report that the governor of Hawaii, met Barack on the tarmac with a envelope sealed by her office, that supposedly has a copy of his original birth certificate inside, but that CANNOT BE OPENED BY LAW UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION. WHY?!!!!! What is going on here? For those who may not have heard the story yet of this debacle, go to www.obamacrimes.com. This is a website of a Democrat lawyer who is suing Obama, claiming that the birth document Barack had posted on his website was proven by 2 independent document inspectors to by falsified. WHY?!!!! Why does Baracks birth certificate need to be hidden until after the election? Why would he falsify the one he posted? Is he not a citizen of the U.S.? That would make him ineligible to even run for President. Is this why it can't be opened until after the election?

There are some very bizarre things swirling around Barack Obama. We should not be having to question a candidates citizenship, loyalty, and trustworthiness this close to him being elected president. How can we elect someone who is hiding these important pieces of an ever growing puzzle? I really hate conspiracy theory type thinking, but my mind is starting to wonder if Barack is a person planted by terrorist Muslims, groomed to pull the wool over our eyes with his smooth orating and promises of something good for eveybody. Will he betray Isreal? He is already on video stating he wants to disarm America, reducing nukes and eliminating missle defense systems. He wants to make it difficult for Americans to bear arms by raising taxes on guns so high barely anyone could afford to buy one. He wants to make it a crime to shoot and kill a home invader who has illegally broken into your home.He would put you in jail for this? Why would an American president want to effectively disarm America militarily and personally, and make it a crime to shoot a home invader? Is it possible, he would open us up for his real allies (Ayres, Khaliddi, Wright) and radical Muslim nations to attack and destroy America from the inside out? Remember Reverend Wright saying "goddamn America!"? Remember Ayers stating he wish he had done more? Think about these things, Americans- this is creepy scary stuff. We need more answers- Obama is a relative newcomer with little known of his background. Can we trust this situation? I don't think I can. I will not be voting for the possiblr downfall of America. Just think what you would feel like if your vote hande America over to terrorists- just like that, quick and easy. DON'T BE FOOLISH.

BUT the Obama camp has stuck to the issues from day one up until present they have been consistent and walked the high road. Even when disdain McCain tried to drag Obama thru the mud Obama took the high road. Disdain McCain is spitting the same thing we need to get rid of and that’s the lies. PENNSYLVANIANS: A vote for obama is a vote to INCREASE TAXES and EXPAND WELFARE. If you actually look at his plan [as opposed to what he says and Fineman and his ilk lovingly repeat] he wants large INCREASES in the the marginal tax rates for the MIDDLE CLASS.

He claims to want to reduce taxes for 95 pc of "working families" [remember this phrasing; it's significant], but if you actually look at it, all he is really doing is renaming his proposed increases in welfare payments as tax "cuts." First of all, 40 pc don’t pay any tax so how do they get a “cut”? But more important, under the Obama plan, the marginal rates go way up for many middle income folks. Only those who are deemed worthy [including the 40 pc who pay no tax] truly benefit from his “cuts”: Some will get a childcare welfare payment. Some will get an increased welfare payment for dependant children . Others will get a college tuition welfare payment. Some get a small welfare payment if they have a mortgage. Everyone gets 7000 if they buy a " Prius. " All of these [except the "Prius" benefit for the latte liberals, of course] phase out as income increases and stop entirely at a relatively low income level. [As an aside on the prius thing. These cars already are selling at a premium. When you tack on a tax credit for the buyer that adds "value" to the car and the automaker will pass much of this on to the consumer by raising its effectice price. Why exactly are we increasing revenues for the Japanese, who make most of these qualifying cars?]

Even if you are one of the lucky ones who GET these welfare payments, each additional dollar you make will be taxed at a far higher rate than today. Under the Obama plan, the marginal rate of tax exceeds 45 pc at incomes of 30,000 - 50,000 and approaches 60 pc at incomes of 105,000 - 125,000 . At these rates, what incentive is there for people to work hard and earn even one more dollar? Overtime anyone? Not if the government takes half or more.

And what about those who dont have minor dependants, kids in daycare, kids in college or a mortgage. What about renters? SENIORS? empty nesters? young singles? married couples without kids? gays? ALL SCREWED. WISE UP, READ UP. Don’t vote for this TAX-LOVING, proponent of the WELFARE STATE. He's an income re-distributing MARXIST.

People on these bogs are fond of saying that the current economic meltdown was caused by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting bad mortgages. While Fannie and Freddie obviously are guilty of writing bad mortgages, and worse, guilty of lobbying Congress to allow them to do so with impunity, their actions are just a small piece of the puzzle when it comes to determining who (or what) caused the financial crisis we face today.

In 1929 the stock market crash caused the banks to fail, because the banks were in bed with the stock market. Back then, banks owned investment houses, so when the stock market fell, the banks fell too. This triggered the Great Depression. So in 1933 the Congress wrote laws that regulated banking, making it illegal for banks to own investment companies, mortgage guaranty companies or insurance companies. The idea was to keep key industries separated by a fire wall, so that if one industry failed the whole economy would not go down in flames.

But the Republicans under Bush deregulated the banking industry. Senator Phil Gramm wrote legislation (the Gramm Rudman Act, the Gramm Leach Biley Act, etc.) that stripped away the regulations in the financial and insurance industies. He pushed them through the Republican Congress and they were signed into law by Geo. W. Bush. John McCain voted in favor. Everybody said how great it is to deregulate and create free markets.

Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch each gave over a million dollars to Senator Gramm's re-election campaign.

The economic collapse that happened later was a direct result of the deregulation, and here's how: the banks wrote bad mortgages, then bundled the mortgages into investment vehicles that they sold all over the world, and they even got firms like AIG to insure the investments. It was all a house of cards.

If there had been no deregulation, sure we would have had a bunch of bad mortgages, and the mortgage guaranty and real estate industries would have suffered, but there would not have been a global financial meltdown, since the problem would have been contained in one sector of the economy. You can thank Geo W. Bush, Sen. Phil Gramm and Sen John McCain for the meltdown, since they were strong proponents of deregulation.

Furthermore, although Fannie and Freddie are now holding the bulk of these bad mortgages, Fannie and Freddie did not originally write most of these mortgages. They bought them after the fact, bundled by banks/investment companies. Fannie and Freddie got screwed by the Wall Street fat cats. And so did you, if you pay taxes.

What is Phil Gramm doing today? He works as a lobbyist in Washington, trying to make it legal for the Swiss bank he represents to sell Death Bonds in the United States. Nice guy, Phil Gramm. Incidentally, John McCain has said that he wants to appoint Phil Gramm as Treasury Secretary. Some people just can't learn from their mistakes.

If Obama were a Muslim, his wife Michelle surely would not have much to say. McCain has been curiously unwilling to come to the point about all of Obama's dubious associations and may have been too gentlemanly to be president. I'm not pushing "guilt by association" here but when we know as little as we do about a candidate as we know about Obama, it makes sense that he be known by the company he keeps. The few candid comments revealing his fundamental values, whether to Joe the Plumber or that audience in Frisco (when he complained about Pennsylvanians clinging to God and guns) tend to reaffirm that it may not be just poor judgment in associating with the likes of Ayers, Wright and now this Khalidi fellow. It looks like we are buying a "pig in a poke" with Obama. Four years is a long time to live with buyers remorse.

I may be in a minority here but I think Murtha was not all that off base when he talked about how people in this area behave. What I have failed to undertand is why they can say whatever ugly thing they want and other people cannot call it what it is-----bigotry and racism. I am glad that Sen Obama is going there because I think it demonstrates his integrity and guts. I also think that it is pretty hopeless. These people are not receptive to change or objectivity. Ask any outsider who goes there,who is not white and or Republican or conservative. A number of these residents have been interviewed on various TV stations recently and they have shown their ignorance and closed mindedness. They have made the very comments Murtha accused them of making. Why give them a pass? And no I am not a member of a minority group. I am a Senior citizen who loves Penn except for this area.

Obama is too much a gentleman to say anything bad about McCain's characterr--but I'm not a lady tonight. Screw mcCain and all the really rich people--they've f$kked up the economy, taken us for trillion of dollars and you guys are so stupid as to worry about Obama's character???

As for Palin--I laugh every time she says she is a woman who puts family first. None of my friends and I would have thrown a pregnant teenage daughter to the media wolfs just to enhance our careers. And none of us would encourage a daughter to marry a high school drop out--What the hell are they thinking(Sarah and Todd)( Oh maybe they don't(think that is)).

And I'm sorry -- if you want a high powered career--use birth control--having a baby at 44 does not make people think your serious--and why do you republicans think its so great that she decided not to have an abortion?? When I was pregnant with my 3rd child at 36 I decided not to have a DNA test because it could cause a miscarriage--she obviously didn't care if she had miscarriage!!

I used to respect mcCain --no more-He would say and do anything to become president. If you make below $250,000 per year and vote for McCain you are so stupid it is not even funny!! At least the peole above that level will get a tax break!! What the hell do you think you will get??

I have listened to all that Obama and McCain have to say... I am not impressed with either, but I am incredibly afraid of Obama. All I have to do is listen to Reverend Wright's sermons from the pulpit (a man who Obama claimed to be his Spiritual Mentor) to run in terror from this candidate. I listened to Obama today and what an incredible orator he is... I actually had tears in my eyes and thought maybe I was wrong. But then, I went back to hear his Mentor's sermons from the sacred pulpit and I couldn't stop thinking how deep down he (and Obama) has a hatred and contempt for Americans. I'm just so confused as to why America doesn't see that... But then again we can overlook infedility and immorality in the candidates we get behind... How sad!!! I'm not telling anyone that there is a better choice, but I'm just saying that I'm appalled that the American people can overlook the association with Wright who clearly hates Americans and does not portray Christian values in any way (remember he is a Christian Reverend) I am not a fanatical Christian, but I am a Christian and I believe that no matter what our faith or denomination we value love over hatred. I live my life everyday forgiving, loving those who offend me, those who are different than me, and those who even hate me... I do it because I believe in the good of all (there is good in all of us)... Yet, Obama's mentor has condemned all of America for being evil... Funny thing is.. in one of his sermons he even condemned Bill Clinton. And, now Bill is on the campaign trail with Obama. How convenient???

How is it that the public ignores these incendiary comments. I am just baffled by how this can all be overlooked. But, then again, it is politics and if you are attractive, articulate, say what people want you to hear and if you have enough money you can buy or advertise your way into anything!!!

I've been around churches and/or people who have said things that are not acceptable in polite society, as I am sure you have. It doesn't mean we agree with them, does it? If you want to be angry and appalled at someone, be angry and appalled at Reverend Wright. I am black and I am angry he said those things. He just fed in to a lot of fears and beleifs that I beleive many white Americans suspect most blacks harbor - which is simply not true (although I understand why one would think that given what blacks went through). It's a little bit of guilt mixed with a little bit of fear but you do not have to be afraid of us. I am so annoyed because Reverend Wright gave unscrupulous Republicans something they can point to as a way of scaring God fearing white Americans such as yourself. Trust me, McCains people know that Mr. Obama is not what they are making him out to be. They are pointing to this man, Reverend Wright, because they want to win. They are calling Mr. Obama a socialist because they want to win. They are saying he is palling around with terrorists because they want to win. They are insinuating that he is an Arab terrorist sympathizer because they want to win. They want to WIN at all costs. People fear things that are different from themselves. Mr. Obama is certainly different. But he is, as Mr. McCain said HIMSELF, a good man, and a family man. You have nothing to fear. That is what Mr. McCain said.

Reverend Wright would like to see Mr. Obama in the White house. Imaging how awful he will feel if Obama does not win? It will largley be his fault. Not that it matters how he feels. What I am saying is, don't let the ignorant remarks of one man blind you to what is really going on here.

You should be MORE concerned that Govorner Palin may become Vice President. She isn't qualified and the reason she is so good at spreading these rumors about Mr. Obama being a socialist and allowing people to say awful things such as terrorist and "kill him" at her rallies, is because she herself believes it. She is ignorant and unscrupulous and you should pay her no mind. I am a woman as well and I consider myself a feminist. I abhor sexism. However, I know what sexism is. At the Republican Nat'l Convention, Palin said, if elected, she would be a VP of "integrity, good will, and clear conviction." I'm wondering if she knew the meaning of these honorable attributes.

I don't know what dream land you're living in but Doctors accountant and the like are NOT ALL voting for McCain Palin. That's a pretty big generalization. Just because people are not screaming at you and hanging up on you whenever you mention Palin's name at the phone bank you're working, doesn't mean they are going to go out and vote for her. Yes the vote is tightening but you shouldn't hold your breath.

Now for all you people who are so afraid of Obama's tax plan (I'm talking to you ELVISCENTRAL), the majority of you are going to get a TAX CUT! a TAX CUT! TAX CUUUUUUT. If you are making below 250k you get a tax cut. If you make over that you can afford to pay a little more. I am graduating from med. school this year. I am probably going to make a lot of money. Chances are I'll still be living pretty good even if my taxes are a little higher. I'll still have a nice car, a nice house, and be able to take vacations IN the carribean which I love (ever been to Puerto Rico? It's great!), send my kid to a good school, etc. My taxes will be used for what they have always been used for, to build roads, fund schools, take care of national parks, give money to programs for people who are less fortunate. I have been on welfare and had to use food stamps when I was a kid. I know that is what the McCain campaign is trying to convince you, that he going to use the money to give to low lifes on welfare who don't want to work. I was on welfare when I was a kid, It kept me fed when my family had a hard time making ends meet. Some people who made a lot more money than my Mom, paid more taxes and those funds helped feed us. My mom was a secrretary. She worked hard. Obama himself was on welfare and knows all about food stamps. You should pray that you never need it, but those taxes you are so afraid of will help you make ends meet should it come to that and in this economy, that's a reall possability. Anyway, most of your taxes for welfare programs come from local STATE taxes. Not Federal. Stop buying the rhetoric. He is not a socialist. Be mad that 10 billion per MONTH (or over 2 biliion per week!) is being spent in Iraq when people in our own country are losing their homes. 10 billion is a LOT of money. Having that money freed up for something else, will probably help out a lot, don't you think?

Dear writer, I think you are deeply misguided. I live in Philadelphia and we have way more McCain signs. NE Philadelphia. I highly doube McCain is down in double digits. We are a state full of sportsman, NRA supporters and most importantly, hard workers. I remember when Obama's tax cuts were 300k and up, then 250, then 200. Now Biden says a married couple making 150k will get hit. I just became a GS-12 with the Dept of Defense. One more raise and me and my wife are over 150K. Not to mention the windfall tax on my retirement. And one last thing, he is not going to raise taxes for people aking 42k, he is however going to let the BUSH tax cuts end, thus hitting the people making 42k, People are waking up, this is not over. Mr. Fineman has missed a few things in his analysis of the Pennsylvania situation.

Judy Hirsh is running against Jeff Picolla, one of the most liberal republicans in the state senate. The GOP is generally not thrilled with the sizable majority it holds in the state senate because it has allowed Gov. Rendell to spend wrecklessly. Piccola is slightly vulnerablethis time partly because of disaffection due to budget matters added to the fact that he is socially liberal. There are not a few GOP conservatives who are hoping to sacrifice him knowing that they can beat Hirsh in 4 years with someone more to their liking.

In congressional races, Murtha is in a 4 point race and could well go down. Democrats will almost certainly drop a seat to Paul Kanjorski and Melissa Hart is in a tight race to regain the seat she lost 2 years ago. There are no vulnerable republicans.

As for yard signs, Mr. Fineman did not see as many for McCain/Palin signs because they are simply not available. I have not spent a day at GOP HQ when we have not had to disappoint people because we simply have not gotten nearly enough to meet demand. People are willing to buy them even though we give away what we do get for free. We are advising people to take them in at night because there have been significant disappearances of them.

This campaign has been the most intensive at least since 1968, my 1st year to vote. It has generated an immense interest by voters, and two of the worst 'smear' tactics ever. However, the smearing from obama's side comes from the people, the voters, not Obama. I am a registered Independent who has pulled the lever for a Republican in 99% of my votes, but this year is a Democratic vote, but only for President. McCain has been shameful in his negative approach (at best) towards Obama. If you have noticed, Obama has held hiself above such tactics, declining to mention that the "Keating 5" scandal would have been the "Keating 4" except for McCain?

Much of the posturing by McCain / Palin has been of a military sort, apparently both anticipating a 'war' or terrorist attack; you might recall Palin's disastrous interview with Katie Couric, in which she was outright stupid (sorry, there is no other word to describe her), talking about "seeing Russia", as a qualifier for international relations; she went on to stumble (a common characteristic of hers) around, implying that "Russia has to come over Alaska [to attack the U S]". BTW, no, they don't! What the f..., is she TRYING to start a war? McCain also has emphasized his career in the military, after saying that he wouldn't run on the 'strength' of that. He admits collaborating with the Viet Namese! And he has claimed himself ready for war, should it come (from where?). Apparently, having the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Nat'l Security Council, et al, at your elbow isn't satisfactory? Many of you may recall President Jimmy Carter; although not the most effective president, I believe that most people respect him as an individual and statesman. He was literally disgusted by one of McCain's interviews, in which he was asked questions about 5 important topics confronting the citizenry, such as health care; Carter was "disgusted" that McCain found a way to slip in his military record in answer to each! McCain, too, comes across as a 'war monger', in my evaluation.

Both candidates were invited to the White house to discuss the financial crisis that is gripping the WORLD (few want to liken this to a depression, but the WORLD? Come on!); anyway, McCain was the only one at the roundtable to not have any input!?!

Palin is an idiot, and she was not known 'well' by McCain before her selection (Letterman show)! I am guessing that he wanted to bring her on for two reasons: 1 - to get somebody younger (this guy is starting to look really old lately), and 2 - to grab the women's vote, for those disappointed not to have Hillary to vote for. Does he consider women that vapid? How insulting, if I am correct! BTW, I think Obama having Hillary on the ticket would have been a long-term mistake; they don't mesh well. Being a resident of NYS, I consider her to be a 'reverse carpet bagger', if you will, coming here to specifically to garner the state with the 2nd highest electoral votes. That said, I understand that she and her staff have been very effective in helping people. Palin, who would either take over if McCain isn't able to fulfill his duties (death), or be an ambassador for him and the U S, can't even speak without use of 'lazy English', as I like to term it. Read her interview transcripts, people! I will repeat my belief; she is an idiot! The main Alaskan newspaper won't even endorse her! And that says a lot about the people McCain would surround himself with as advisors.

Despite my understanding that McCain and Bush don't like each other (putting it mildly), the policies that McCain would establish sound too much like bush policies, and I have had enough.

One thing not mentioned enough during this campaign is the makeup of the Supreme Court. We may be able to begin to breathe a little easier. There may be a solid republican Chief Justice for the rest of my life but the makeup of the court is going to change sufficiently to prevent the high court from ever determining the outcome of a US presidential election again as it did in 2000, a stain upon it's distinguished reputation. Too bad the Supremes are the only significant branch of the US governent accountable to nobody, least of all by the American people (the stakeholders in the country).

BUSHES LITTLE SIDEKICK

I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.

He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next

is terrifying.He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.

The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG

The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing

the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations

McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".

That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.

It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.

Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.

Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy.He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.

It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be

even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.

If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.

When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
