The RNC's Youngest Delegate on Palin's Daughter

Sarah Kliff

By Sarah Kliff

At 17, Mike Knopf is the youngest delegate at the Republican National Convention. He's also the same age as Bristol Palin, Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter--revealed yesterday by the McCain campaign to be five months pregnant. "I've known a couple of people who it's happened to, and surprisingly it really isn't that bad," says the high-school senior from Dubuque, Iowa. Below, excerpts on his take on what it means for young conservatives:

NEWSWEEK: What was your first reaction?
Mike Knopf: The conservative base that has supported Governor Palin is made up of people that believe in strong family values, morals and ethics. And I think it just reinstills that, to see a teen carry a pregnancy to term--that's very strong of her.

How do you think young people in the Republican Party are going to react to this?
I’ve talked to all my friends and we all feel different ways about it. But I think when it comes down to it, it's a big character judgment. And young people recognize she made the right one. Being a teen mom isn't the worst thing in the world, and she has supportive parents, so I really think it just shows how much Sarah Palin cares about family values.

Do you think McCain knew about this when he picked Palin?
I think so. I figured McCain would figure this is just going to show what kind of family values she had.

So this is a good thing for people your age in the party?
It has nothing to do with the reason we picked her; she's a squeaky clean governor. She’s got great values and great judgement. Despite what the liberal media is trying to say, she has nothing to be ashamed of.

VOTE REPUBLICAN 2008: with McCain sleeping/comatose and Palin being "motherly" we're all going to end up having a few more kids this year. Babies having Babies in the White House. Palin's lack of control on the sex issues she so vehemently ignores will surely spur the economy! More Young Kids having Kids = MORE SPENDING!!! Let's do it !!!

Also, why do all the Conservative views towards Obama go to inherent racism and inaccurate Religious quips? Weren't the same people calling him a Muslim Jihadist calling him a Racist Christian when Reverend Wright was firing off zingers against certain parties?

If that was even Obama's niece, the resentment would have been equivalent to a category 4 hurricane.  But HYPOCRISY is the word here: "judge thy neighbor and not thyself"  - the neo-con doctrine. This is not a case of the teenage daughter, but lapses in judgment, by the parents. Where were Todd and Sarah Palin?

The pregnancy is clearly, a mirror of the family. It reads out loud the troubles in their closet. If she can't manage her family, then, she is not fit to rule.

Did you notice Bristol shielding her belly with the new born child?  This was well orchestrated by the GOP. There are better women GOP choices across many Walmarts and KMarts. Sarah comes across like a Hooters waitress.

This is actually quite humorous.  Dems are obviously shaken by McCain's choice of Palin as his running mate.  I didn't hear quite so much enthusiasm from Dems about Obama's choice of Biden.  Ummm, could that be because Biden is an old, white man who is embedded in the Washington Loop and just another career politician

?

Yesterday, I asked a self-proclaimed 'yellow dog Democrat' her opinion of Palin.  The Dem replied she couldn't be happier.  As a self-proclaimed staunch Republican, I agree.  I couldn't be happier.

Palin is real; Obama is not.  Obama is an opportunist who is seeking the highest office in the U.S. because he is presumed black.  He can't help who is father is, but it doesn't change the fact that Obama is a radical Muslim seeking to allow Islamic control of the U.S.

Sarah Palin has successfully taken on more responsibilities in any capacity than has Obama.  And she isn't even running for President!  I applaud her accomplishments and willingness to take on Washington to do what is right instead of buckling under to the same old, same old.

If Obama is elected, break out the Arabic language books, people!  Because you'll be speaking it or be slaughtered in one of their jihad-style raids.

But then of course, if the country survives four years of Obama, at least then lazy blacks, whites, Latinos, and others will have no more excuses for their own plight.  They'll see that the great black savior was just a farce.

A vote for Obama is a vote for change all right ... a change to socialism.
