I'm with DavidE7 on this one: the news media has no right to question Reverand Huckabee on any issue because the American people have no right to know who their presidential candidates are and what they believe. Let's face it issues are not important. Who cares if he is illiterate and uneducated? The only thing that is important is that he is a Christian and has God in his heart. If the American people are too dumb to see that then they get the President they deserve: some know it all liberal who will rebuild America instead of Iraq and tax rich people instead of the middle class. How could raising taxes on those making over $250,000 possibly help reduce the deficit? And aren't deficits good anyway. Why should we have to pay when we can make our children pay. Thank God Reverand Huckabee doesn't uderstand any of this stuff and thank God he doesn't have to explain it to the media.

I really lol'ed at your comment DavidE7! Thanks for the laugh; But really, Huckabee an ethical giant? He's anti-mexican, anti-gay (seriously, he won't even give them civil unions? Cut them a break!), and an evangelical maniac. I would rather have John McCain in office than him. And I'm a Democrat. So that says a lot.

AS for the ethical giant, Mike Huckabee, I guess folks haven't seen the other side of him. While governor in Arkansas, he practiced blatent partisan politics, went back on his word to folks, and bulldozed through to get his way on things. I know, because family members were reciepents of a partisan, going back on his word incident. No, I'm not a McCain supporter, but folks are going to have to wake up to the other side of this candidate, Rev. Huckabee. Just do a search and try to find an article on his push to release Wayne Dumond from the Arkansas prison system. Being a preacher does not necessarily make you an ethical giant. And, by the way, yes I am a Christian, and I am a regustered Democrat to boot.

The United States taxes the world-wide income of anyone who spends any part of any 26 weeks of a year in the United States. Mr. Huckabee could work in Antarctica or outer space, and his earnings would be taxable, as ordinary income.

This is the reason many foreign golfers, tennis players, and other athletes only compete in the US 15-20 times a year. The IRS would assess their world-wide income.

People complain when a candidate is indpendently wealthy (Romney, Edwards), when they have to work (Huckabee, Giuliani) and when their spouse is from a wealthy family (McCain and Kerry).

If you want to *** about trusts in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and Fiji, tell Teddy Kennedy. That's where Old Joe set his up.

Those that have a favorable view of former Gov. Huckabee probably didn't live in Arkansas during his adminstration. For example, all governors receive gifts in their official capacity but are required by state law to disclose these gifts and turn these over to the state. Mr. Huckabee, however, claimed that these gifts were intended for him personally and he refused to relinquish them until forced to by the state's Ethics Commissions.

The list of ethical lapses could go on but add that to a laughable lack of belief in evolution, a blatant anti-gay stance and an expressed desire to change the U.S. Constitution to conform with his version of the Bible should spell a troubling portrait of a candidate for President.

Piety does not always equal morality.

For those of you who are bashing Mike Huckabee, what gifts are you talking about? If he received so many gifts why is he still trying to make some income. Get your facts straight, stop spreading false information, especially if you are talking about the house warming party that Huckabees threw 2 years ago, why can't public servants have their own personal life with their personal friends. Would you like to compare the personal fortune of other presidential candidates!? Stop judging people on their faith, remember that our founding fathers were ministers, 48 out of 52 of them!

While the media has struggled to find soundbites from Obama's eloquent speeches that include specifics of what he plans to do to "change" the country, Huckabee is the one who has had a bold plan for change from the beginning, many goals of which are now being added to Obama's economic plan (e.g. roads and infrastructure).

While Clinton continues to beat her universal health care drum, the rest of us wince at another welfare program in the making. Listen to her interview with George Stephanopoulos and you will cringe when she talks of garnishing our paychecks and the other "mechanisms" in order to pay for universal health care for everyone. Throw the nice tax increases in there and we won't have much left to live on.

The polls say McCain would make a better commander in chief, but we don't need to be a POW to be a commander in chief. Clinton definitely wasn't. He was in Canada, wasn't he?

I don't want my children or their children experience the types of terrorist attacks we have. To be a world leader, the US must have the military strength to remain on the offensive. Huckabee believes in a strong military and his ability to communicate, his understanding of how religion plays a role in the values and beliefs of extremists and other denominations, and his recognition of the human element in everything from environmental issues to rights and responsibilities will be more useful to America than McCain''s military might. Huckabee's faith and respect for others will help him do more to bring about peace than McCain will with is 100-year war.

And one last word of caution, the terrorists are licking their chops for a democrat to be in office. They have the barbecue pits already dug. The world's media will be busy covering the terrorists' celebrations if the we elect a democrat who defaults on America's commitments. It will be like Independence Day for them and D-Day for any country we are trying to protect - including our own.

If some of the Huckabee bashers on this board would stop getting their "facts" from certain sleazy websites, they might ask why the citizens of Arkansas voted Gov. Huckabee in until he termed out. By law, he could not run as Gov. again.....and the people wanted him to. What does that tell you? Look, the man needs to make a living to pay his bills just like us ordinary folks do. He is not independently wealthy nor is he being paid a salary like the other 4 candidates, senators and a congressman are....(our tax dollars, people...and for what?.....they haven't done a *** thing except obstruct the President in any way possible and, oh, yeah, most importantly, haul in some sports figures on possible steroid use?????

As for the gay issue,....what do you think the Founding Fathers would have done with a gay? Salem Witch Trials? Tarred and feathered? Put in the stocks for public display?? Different time?

Huckabee has every right to continue his day job. That is completely ethical. The unethical part is continuing his day job knowing full well he's not going anywhere in this election and still actively seeking donations. The poor rednecks he's getting his money from by soliciting donations (and votes) throughout every evengelical church in the south could use that money to pay off some credit card debt or pay their mortgage their defaulting on. Instead, they give it to Huckabee hoping for a 'miracle' to stop their foreclosure or solve all their other problems.

This is not the first time we've seen this from the former Governor.

"The Huckabees have been in the news over past gifts. The governor reported tens of thousands of dollars worth of gifts during his first years in office. He was forced, after first saying the furniture was a personal gift, to disavow ownership of some $70,000 in furnishings provided for private quarters at the Governor’s Mansion by cotton planter Boe Adams. Questions were raised about the legality of the governor accepting such a gift. The Ethics Commission investigated him for other gifts he’s received as governor, including a canoe provided by a soft drink bottler. He also has used his inaugural funds to pay for personal articles for the family, including clothing for his wife. Additionally, in his first year in office, records show he used Mansion expense funds for personal expenses, a prohibited practice."

Let me make sure I understand. Since the Founding Fathers might have been troubled by a gay person, then that makes it OK for us treat a gay person the same way? I guess slavery and the lack of female suffrage must be different then. And if a majority were ministers (which seems suspicious), then how does one explain such horrible treatment of their fellow human beings? Is that what Jesus would do?

I voted for Huck in the Iowa caucuses and continue to support him. McCain is a bitter pill to swallow. Only Huck can sweeten Mac.

If Huckabee got his consumption tax, and a billionaire takes his money out of the Caymond Islands and puts it in a US Bank. Is the Billionaire going to start buying more luxury goods here to make up for the lost Income taxes not paid? If he wanted to invest in American Businesses why would it make any difference where his money was banked. As far as increased capital in the banks

Does not the government increase and reduce capital available for investment through the Federal Reserve? And also if I was a billonaire, I would not start a new business just because I had more money from lack of Income taxes, I would open a new business because I thought there would be a market for my product. The Market in this country would be mostly the middle class so regardless of the tax structure, If my wages are decreasing or at least not keeping up with the increase in energy and medical costs and the value of my home is dropping, and unemployment is rising why am I going to buy anything? And how does any kind of tax cut for the richest Americans address any of this?
