Our current President and VP have made tons of money for their cronies (ie Halliburton and big oil) on the backs of the middle class. I don't begrudge Bill and Hillary a penny...they've earned it after being civil servants most of their adult lives. I would bet that our current President won't make any money on speeches...he can't even read the teleprompter without difficulty.

I'd like to know where the Clintons got the money. More donations from China? Donations from Saudi Arabia? Donations from the mafia? Who knows? I'd like to. It might make a difference in whether I'd trust her as President.

But don't worry... she'll be the nominee. Obama may have the popular vote and the pledged delegate vote, but Clinton has the super delegates already bought and paid for.

Hillary Clinton is a joke, all she wants to do is screw America some more, with her Tax plans and health plans. All it is going to do is make people not want to work, so they don't have to pay more taxes and for others health care.

Just look at the welfare system, there are people who we as tax payers, pay for thier food, house, cell phone, plasma tv's, and they don't even work, or try to work. Maybe we should take the welfare money, pay off the national debt, take the money being spent there and rebuild a united country where there is no 2 party system.

I wonder if they ever sold the furniture, china, ans silverware that they stole from the White House? Shouldn't that be on their Return as well? I have no problem with people making money legitimately, but it seems there is a lot of "I scratch your back and you scratch mine" going on with the Clintons. Strange how many criminals donated to the original Clinton campaign and he pardoned them as he left office. He pardoned over 100 people ranging from convicted drug dealers, to tax evasion and securities fraud offenses. Most of these same people are donating to Hillary's campaign!! I don't understand why so many Americans continue to support such corruption!!

The distraction and confusion they create lets them get away with less real disclosure than anyone else in politics. Their tax returns will show nothing incriminating. They may show nothing at all. All of this is just pointing to the tip of the iceberg. Politicians in general and ex-Presidents especially have shown an increasing and alarming tendency to become filthy rich after leaving office. Actually I believe the worst offender is yet to come with George W. Bush who has spent his whole time in office focused on benefiting those who will take care of him. This endowment program is really a clear indication of how payback for favors rendered while in office is kept legal but under the table and truly has only extreme negative value for the average American (example - the last eight years). The Clintons no doubt took more advantage of this system then most before them but they surly are not alone and the current administration will likely leave them in the dust. Maybe that is why Hillary wants to win so bad ... she knows what it really pays and this time she wants to get it all and not leave any on the table (Bush-Cheney style). It would sure be nice if this wasn't true but to change it we would have to look to them to correct the circumstances and that doesn't seem likely to happen.

I just read another article in Newsweek about the Clinton tax returns, and you know what who cares. Hillary promised that she would make her tax returns public in April and she did what more do people want. If they made a lot of money then so be it, Bill was a very popular President, did we forget that Democrats, or are we getting selective amnesia? And you know what I found out in that other article....that Obama JUST posted his tax returns last week. When all that call for Clinton to post hers was going on in what......February. He hadn't even made his public yet, and last week he only posted 2000 - 2006, not even 2007. So what's going on here? The returns are out and the press must be VERY disappointed because they're not going to be able to make any more mischief w/ these returns than they did w/ the White House schedules. If the reporting were at all even-handed--which it is are NOT-- they would point out that the Clinton's gave 10% of their income to charity in contrast to Sen. Obama who gave less than 1% of his income to charity during several years when he and his wife had income greater than $200,000. My husband and I are retired. We never earned a 6 figure income, but we ALWAYS gave at least 2% of our income to charity, not counting political donations that are not tax deductible. I think it is ironic that the candidate who claims to be on a higher moral claim has been so stingy with his charitable contributions, compared to the national average of 2% or the very generous 10% of the Clintons. In '05 and '06 the Obamas gave more generous amounts that went almost entirely to his church,. from which he now tries to distance himself. I continue to be disgusted that the press is determined to install Sen Obama as the Democratic nominee. He is repeatedly given a free pass. This story is a perfect example. The story says that the Clintons have dragged their feet on releasing their returns. What nonesense!! Obama just releast his returns from 2000-06 last week and he hasn't released his '07 returns yet. So, the Clintons are ahead of him. The Clintons were trashed from the right throughout their years in the White House and now they are trashed from the left. It's disgusting. I just don't get it.

I think that Hillary Clinton held out turning her tax returns to the public because she knew that it would show how generous she had been to charity and that she had paid a pile of taxes. Anyone with common sense would know that they would have made a lot of money with their books. Now, people will see that she has been straight with us all the time. Even the Bosnia problem was simply an error since she told the story correctly in her book. No one wants to admit it but most people have said things without thinking that they have been corrected on later (usually by their child and hopefully not in front of the person you said it to like my child did). Hillary Clinton is a good generous person. I have followed her career for many years and she is truly a candidate for the people. She is one of those rare people who wants to make a difference in people's lives. That is why she donated so much to charity and that is who she is.

In reading above I had already noticed that Clintons certainly stepped up to the plate on their charitable contributions. While the Obamas didn't contribute 1% to charities and that is rather odd when you consider how Sen. Obama tries to appear he is more moral.....

Why don't the reporters (or maybe they aren't capable) ask legimate questions that need to be addressed and answered. Such as having Sen. Obama give answers that offer exact solutions to some of the many problems our country is facing right now, not such that he is going to fix them.

GoDem it appears as if your statement of the Obama's charitable contributions was partially correct. You are correct in saying that they "didn't contribute 1% to charities." See if you can figure out where you went wrong.

Obama's Reported Income: $1,000,000

Obama's Charitable contributions: $240,000

The math: $240,000/$1,000,000= 24%

Clinton's Report Income: $109,000,000

Clinton's Charitable contributions: $10,2000,000

The math: $10,200,000/$109,000,000 = 9.3%

As you can see from the math, the Obama's gave at ratio nearly 3 times the rate of the Clintons!

There is much that can be said about this slight oversight - like it is very obvious that you are a Clinton supporter. I think its fair to present accurate criticism(s) about the candidates whether its Obama or Clinton. But at the very least, I encourage you to break out a calculator and crunch your numbers correctly.

By the way, Hillary's chief campaign strategist, Mr. Penn, as recently as this past week, met with a foreign official to discuss NAFTA (to help the country with more favorably trade terms with the US - translation: ship some of the jobs to his country that Bill and Hillary sent to Canada and Mexico). This was happening while Hillary stumped in Pennsylvania and Indiana telling voters that she was against NAFTA. Her records as first lady shows that she was gaining some 3 am experience shipping jobs abroad. The problems you want the press to ask Obama to provide solutions to were in part created by your candidate. Are you aware of this information?

To those of you who question the Clintons giving to their own charitable foundation: before you make any judgments about this, maybe you ought to check out the website -- www.clintonfoundation.org -- to see what types of programs it offers, such as HIV/AIDS support, global climactic change initiatives, children's health initiatives and more.

As a director of a nonprofit corporation, I can tell you that it makes perfect sense to donate to your own foundation ... if you don't believe in your mission enough to support it financially, who will? There is no way the Clintons are making money from donating to their foundation. The IRS is fanatical about supervising the operations of all nonprofit corporations and all nonprofits are required by law to make all their financial statements available to the general public. It's the last place anyone could hide financial double-dealing.

Also, it takes a great deal of money to start a nonprofit corporation and theirs is new. Until the nonprofit generates enough public interest to command large donations, it is often the founders of the nonprofit who shoulder the burden of keeping it up and operating. Most of our money has gone right back into our nonprofit for this very reason.

Additionally, many nonprofits donate to other nonprofits as a matter of course and, if the Clinton Foundation follows this typical practice, these donations wouldn't be broken down on the Clintons' personal income tax, but would be a part of the financial disclosure of their Foundation.

It is easy to make inaccurate judgments and assessments when you are not in possession of all of the information that's pertinent. Try not to be so quck to judge and you might find that the world is a better place than you initially think it is.

I vascilate between outrage and amusement at the way the media Clinton bashers try desperately to make something out of nothing. Some of this is just bad journalism (i.e., we don't know anything yet, but what we DON't know is if Bill is selling state secrets to Dubai, or if Hillary is leading Satanic rituals on Saturday night . . .). Give me a break. Creating suspicion in your readers/viewers through idle SPECULATION is a way to fill column inches with sexy stuff and publicly assassinate someon'e character without crossing the "legal" line and making yourselves vulnerable to civil suit or prosecution, but it violates journalistic ethics, and it does not serve the electorate or the country well.

In comparison, you go to great lengths to point out that Obama released SOME of his tax info LAST year, but there is an ever-so-brief line in the same paragraph where you mention in passing that Obama didn't release ALL of his tax records until approximately one week before this article was written, just a little over a week before Clinton released hers. You also briefly mention that his income from the proceeds of his book: " We knew that he got a bunch of money from a book at one point that he put into a house deal..." failing to mention that the person involved in the "house" deal was a crook and long-time supporter under federal investigation and that the deal was not all that transparent (property being put in wife's name before sale, I believe?). Even Obama admitted it was stupid, and no one went to great lengths to see if it might actually be criminal. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the trial exposes anything. Of course, by that time the nomination and possibly even the election will be over and it will be too late.

You do try to cover your collective asses by throwing in the fact that the Clintons follow the Senate financial reporting requirements just like everyone else in the Senate. If you don't like the rules, work with your Senators to change them, but don't imply that the Clintons are breaking the rules unlike everyone else in a way that should concern us.

The media is no longer an objective reporter of events, it shapes events to its own design. Creating news instead of reporting it. Polls generated by the media according to the media's criteria, reported by the media, analyzed by the media -- it fills air time or column inches and entertains talking heads, but it is not real journalism and it is not objectively reporting and analyzing hard news. Superficial over substantial. Just what our country needs. A lazy press.

Why are the Clinton's tax returns such a big deal? Of course the Pres has made money since the end of his term, why shouldn't he?

If you want a real scandal. Ask Obama exactly when the last time he took cocaine was, and if he ever obtained drugs for someone else or sold drugs to anyone else. I don't see how a person who admitted using cocaine expects to be elected POTUS.

Big businesses do not fork out $100,000 to $500,000 a pop for an hour of chit chat. What Bill Clinton provided behind the screen of speeches is basically selling information that he gained during his presidency or information he gets from his connections to help big businesses get what they want.

Further, if they are super rich, as we found out that they are, the likelyhood that they are going to favor some tax law or specific laws that are in their interests or in the interest of the rich is very high.

Now I see why Hillary did not want to divorce Bill even after he humiliated her with affairs after affairs and years after years: million of dollars are to come in the years ahead.

I am a newly re-decided mature voter. My opinion about senator Hillary R. Clinton:

- Senator Hillary Clinton is a straight shooter. When she misspoken on an event, she said she "missopoke". When she misheard a question, she said she "misheard". Anyone involved in her campaign failed to follow her guidelines, she fired them. No excuse! To me, senator Hillary R. Clinton possesses the quality of a great leader. She proves that she is sincere. Without saying anything, senator Hillary R. Clinton's actions convinced many "undecided voters" as well as "unsupported voters" in the last few months to change their minds and supporting her. Senator Clinton demonstrates that her actions are LOUDER THAN A LOUD SPEECH! She does not "insult voters' intelligent" by using excuses to cover a "bad event"! Senator McCain, must know that Mr. Limbaugh's strategy WAS BACK FIRED! Senator Hillarty R. Clinton will bring victory for the Democratic Party in November 2008. I am surprised how ignorant people in US can be. Such an ignorance gave George Bush his second term. Regarding Senator Clinton lets talk about "Misspoke", I think one can misspeak about what one has heard. Misspeaking does not happen when you have experienced something. That is not a misspeak it is a lie. One lie from George Bush costed us over 4000 US deaths and billions of dollars (and counting). Now about experience, if congress decides that a President can have more than 2 terms in white house, will you guys give George Bush another term because he has "8 years of experience", or will you look into what his deeds were during his so called experience. Senator Clinton had one chance of showing that she can make good decisions and can plan and execute the plan. This chance was her campaign. She did poor planning on that too. She did not have any plan for elections after super Tuesday. Lets us take a hypothetical scenario of war, would you like a person who puts all the eggs in one basket to plan for war which we may have to fight. I would rather have a president who not only has vision but can plan the way Sen. Obama did. Unfortunately Sen. McCain also is in the same boat as Sen. Clinton. Please be rational when you decide on who you vote for as our votes will decide fate of this great country. Do not vote for a black man, a woman or a white man. Vote for a person who can fix the mess George Bush has created.

I am not catholic but the person who compared the catholics to Wright's comments is talking apples to oranges. No one sat in the pews when any priest did anything wrong. If people know their priest had been done such a terrible thing, they would leave the church not sit there and listen to him talk about it. It is pretty absurd to even talk about that since it has NEVER happened. Wright puposely spoke anti-white and anti-American rhetoric in the church in front of all the people. Obama sat there for 20 years and listened to it, even condoned it and dedicated a book to the minister who spoke this garbage.

Obama has not turned in all of his taxes at this time. The Clinton's turned in part of the 2007 taxes and Obama has turned in None. What they did turn in showed 10% to charity to Obamas 2%.

It doesn't matter if Newsweek tells the truth about Obama's connections, McCain will. He has plenty on Obama and it would not surprise me if they are saving it all for the election. Then he will be indicted for the Rezko deal and it will be all over for the democrats. Unfortunately, that will mean that he got the Democratic nod and too late to save the election for the Democrats but the party has been a bunch of idiots since the beginning of this campaign. They could have done done something to recognize Michigan and Florida but they are all so caught up with Obamaitis that they can't see the forest for the trees. The networks have the same disease and are calling the shots for Obama all the way. I wonder what they will do when it shows up that they have been snookered? They'll likely spin it another way just as they do everything else. Talk about misspoke, they do it 24 hours per day and don't think a thing of the lies that they spread. I no longer trust the media in any way and look at everything they say with distrust. The watchdogs of the world, where did they go? They should be ashamed but are just too crooked to care. That especially goes for Chris Matthews (total spin misspeaker) and the "keeping them honest" liar Anderson. Try keeping yourself honest for a change Anderson.

I'm not sure who reads these comments, but I took some time and did. It amazes me the audacity we as Americans take in making semi factual and improvised statements to try to dissuade or persuade the uniformed enough to change a position on a candidate. I believe it is why we are easily swayed by media spin and duped by insiders who know that we as a people are lazy when it comes to researching facts. What I learned from what I've read in this commentary section is that the few who do know what they are talking about are chided for what they know.
