The only thing generational is that those of us who are a little older have common sense, sense of purpose and sense of self which leads up to support the right candidate.

I'm afraid the younger generation is being led like lambs to the slaughter and believe everything they see and hear on MTV and Youtube.

I find it all rather frighterning that they are our future.

One of the big reasons the superdelegates are backing Obama is he knows how to raise money, and he advances Democratics in other states. They want him to come and campaign for them because he brings out the voters and the cash necessary to win! When is the last time Hillary Clinton campaigned for one of her fellow Democrats in a tate outside of New York and actually HELPED him/her win?

Yes, the older generation has made a mess of things by electing pols like the Clintons. No, they will not admit their complicity in the problems we are facing and they will support Clinton or McCain because of their age and experience, No, they will not support Obama because he is black and because they fear change. Yes, younger voters will try to get Obama elected. No, older voters will stop it and elect McCain. Yes, the war, the deficits and the polarazation will continue for another generation. No, the youth will not keep their idealism or their energy or their desire for change.Yes, they will become just like the older voters they dislike. Lets get real do you want the commander and chief be some one that has little experience and would not go to Memphis to honor MLK. We do not have a race problem. We have the like of respect that is and should be paid to our elders. History has away of repeating itself. President Eisenhouer was so correct when he said we can not allow Industrey to take over our country and we can not allow illegal immigrants take our country over for cheap labor and move our manufacture companies out of this country. We have become a third World Country. We are broke and the middle American will continue to suffer for the failures of cheap labor due to off shore cheap labor and poision tor capitisam.

Put troops on the borders and stop the drug traffic into this country. No more cheap labor we must become a soveingen country again.

We do not have a race problem in this country, but do have an arrogrant Rev. J. Wright blaming white folks for their on failures 40 years later and 40 trillion dollars. Hillarys 35 years of vaunted experience that are supposedly the reason America should vote for her:

1 year at the Children’s Defense Fund (terrific but millions of Americans have worked for nonprofits for at least 1 year, that hardly qualifies you for President).

3 years on Capitol Hill (fantastic, but again, thousands of capable young Americans have worked on Capitol Hill, they’re not all going to be President).

15 years as a corporate attorney for a tiny law firm in Arkansas (again, admirable but not even “top shelf” in the legal world given the thousands of first-tier attorneys at major corporations across America).

8 years as first lady (America thanks her for her service but the one thing she was responsible for not only failed badly but it was terribly mismanaged by her).

7 years as a Senator (she’s passed, what 2 small pieces of legislation? Again, hardly the basis for a national campaign).

Senator Clinton’s claims of being “the most experienced” and of trying to paint her opponent as a rookie are somewhere between laughable and offensive (the more she makes these claims, the more offensive they are because they insult people’s intelligence).

Obama is engaging them unlike anyone has done in my lifetime - I believe even moreso then JFK - he was my very first vote. I admire this man for where he has been and where he wants ALL OF US to go. This article is totally slanted & filled with untruths. Hillary will stand in front of a crowd of thousands & answer any and all questions posed to her. Why? Because she can! That speaks volumes about her. The youth of today is no different then we were at their age. Young, impetuous, and not into doing a lot of research or deep thought. Kind of like a knee jerk reaction. Just say the right words, those that cater to the new generation's idea of I'm going to change the world. But government is like business. No one fresh out of college gets to be a CEO and then most likely not until they have at least 20 years of experience. There is a reason for that, It is called the School of Life, or experience. OBama needs to stay in the Senate at least for a full term to really know what kind of politician he is. His mantra of "change" is nothing new, seen that, heard that before. His only experience is in the Illinois senate, and we still don't have his records, & has only worked at the job of being a US senator for 1 year. Apply those credentials to anyone in business or in the military. does anyone make CEO or 5 star general in 9 years? The youngest presidents we have had have been US senators for far longer (JFK) or governors (BC). This was their college years. This is no time for someone that green to be in the driver's seat, especially when it comes to foreign policy which has become one of the most important problems we have. The new president will be dealing with world figures that have been around for a very long time & a lot of them know the Clinton's and have had good relationships with them in the past. They would be slow to warm up to O'Bama as he would be no better known to them than he was here before his run for the presidency.

I think our founding fathers goofed on this one. They should have made "doing time in Washington" a constitutional requirement for the office of the presidency. Clinton supporters tend to have very creative argumrnt about how this primary is about entitlement and not about democratic voters making realistic assesment of the candidates and voting who they reckon has the pedigre to lead a nation fractured by divisive politics. For one thing, I respect the judgment of the electorate... If they choose Obama or Hillary, fine with me, after all that's what democracy and free vote are all about.

Obama is considered a post-racialist because he is a part of and has affinity for more than one race. He doesn't dismiss people out of hand because of a few of their views. You're right; much focus on the generational stylistic differences, while largely ignoring the many other (including tactical) generational differences. As Jonathan Alter wrote last month in Newsweek, Obama is a part of Generation Jones while Hillary is a Boomer, and as Alter notes: "the two cohorts have little in commmon".

Since Alter's column, numerous other media outlets--including The New York Times, NBC, and The Wall Street Journal--have also argued that Obama is specifically part of Generation Jones (born 1954-1965), and is not a Boomer or GenXer, as is sometimes mistakenly said.

Your analysis of the tactical differences between a Joneser and a Boomer illustrate this difference well. Now we need more writers to explore the many other relevant differences between Boomers and Jonesers...
