I just saw the speech, and I cannot imagine anyone showing less emotion. Obama has done this twenty years too late and now only for political expediancy. Obama has been informed about such comments before, and still stood by them. He said in the past that these comments were taken out of context, yet now that the comments are made not once but three times, now he separates himself from his reverend. I do not believe that this improves the situation. The comments made yesterday were no where near as insulting to sections of the country than the ones made in front of the NAACP in Detroit. Obama is doing everything he can to win the nomination and nothing more.

This is one of his skeletons and they are slowly starting to come out of the closet. The infatuation with Obama is over and he will NEVER be the president. People will NEVER vote in a man who for 20 years was affiliated with Rev. Wright, our society is will not stand for it and cannot chance a man with such an affiliation as our president. Obama is an incredibly honorable, honest, empathetic, intelligent, unselfish and brave human that is full of good will toward people. This is something that, unfortunately, people are not used to. People are always looking for the hidden intent behind any action, for the 'what's he/she going to get out of it' payoff they think is the only motivator human's have anymore. People, please open up your eyes before it's too late and see that we have a real opportunity here to turn not only our country around, but also our morality around. What Bush has done to this country is a perfect example of how true it is that attitudes, acceptable standards, morals come from the top - the example of 'leaders.' Hillary has shown herself to be no better - lies on top of lies, say what ever the voters want to hear (like proposing dropping the gas tax even though it will irreparably hurt or changes of rebuilding America's infrastructure and will put so many people out of work while providing so little return to citizens), stoop however low she feels she needs to go with no moral compass to tell her what is too low, and so much more that is wrong with her. If Obama was less honorable that he is, if he was more a true 'politician' than someone with a vision and mission to get our country out of the trouble it is in, he has a ton of ammunition to use against Clinton. The fact that he works to hard to reverse the old electoral standards of behavior, to lift them out of the gutter, even at the peril to his own ability to win the nomination, shows how honorable he is and how he truly is speaking from the heart. People - please open your eyes. It is possible for something to be as good as it seems, and Obama is the real deal.

With regard to Obama's judgment at having Rev. Wright as his pastor, what does it say about Hillary's judgment that she keeps Bill Clinton has her husband? Kept him through all the womanizing and lies. As a husband he certainly didn't turn out like she thought he would. And what about her judgement of Mark Penn? Top guy running her campaign but he's going behind her back and advising Columbia on Trade Agreement negotiations? What does that say about her judgment? Or, maybe her honesty since he is still working on her campaign.

Because Wright was derailing the media lovefest and in turn, causing loss of support across the board.....Hillary's ahead in National polls if you haven't noticed.

This guy is a politician through and through. As I type this, I'm watching Chris Matthews practically beg Jimmy Carter to endorse Obama and Carter's having no part of it. Obama got MSNBC back on the wagon.....let's just hope that the rest of the America and especially the super delegates see Obama for what he really is.........a inexperienced freshman Senator who arrogantly thinks he should be President based on a rare speaking ability and smoke and mirrors!!!

Wright was in the Basement with the entire Obama family praying with them before he went outside to announce his candidacy to the nation. Obama also told him not to come out because he can get a little rough. It sounds like Obama truly holds this man near and dear to his heart---he just never thought it would be an isuue. Now, for his own political image, he disowns a man that was like a father to him. I think we all now who the true Obama is.

PS Is there anyone out there who can point to CONCRETE examples of why Barrak Obama is qualified and deserves to be the leader of the free world?

What I find most interresting is that if this had been Hillary, the Obama people would have been ALL over her. We in America HATE to admit we were wrong. I'm not saying Obama isn't a good man; however, this is just something that politicians do and should show he isn't some agent for change. He is a politician. And as such, we should look at his accomplishments and NOT what he WANTS to do. I can't help but laugh when the Obama people call Hillary a liar or a fraud. But, when something comes out to tarnish their candidate, they just offer excuses as if they really know him. We don't really know these people at all. All we know is what they say, without their actions. Is Hillary clean? Of course not. But she does have a record of working for people of color and the people that are poor. But, we like to forget that she was doing all this good work before either she or Bill were in politics because it's convenient.

With all of this righteous indignation, none of you who are and have been screeching about "20 years" has ever managed to state EXACTLY how this 20 years will influence anything that Obama would do in office. How EXACTLY would it influence his decisions on health care? How EXACTLY would it influence his decisions on gas prices? How EXACTLY would it influence his decisions on Iraq/Iran/Middle East? How EXACTLY would it influence his choices for the Supreme Court? How EXACTLY would it influence his decisions on anything?

And, how do you KNOW that it would have the effects you claim it will? Unless you a) can state what the actual, direct negative effects of this relationship will have on any decision-making Obama would be making as POTUS and b) how you KNOW that those negative effects are guaranteed (I'd even accept a demonstration of their likelihood), your whining is no more than hot air. The reality is that Wright has no more direct effect on anything that Obama does than anyone's religious advisor.

Based on the last 7+ years, I think everyone should be a hell of a lot more worried about another Cheney than I would be a Wright when it comes to direct effect on presidential decision-making. Wright as Svengali is a completely bogus "argument" - and, if it wasn't before, it sure is now that he's proven incapable of considering anyone but himself. Nancy Reagan's astrologist will, in the course of history, have had a lot more influence than Wright will.

I was enamored of Obama when he made his debut and thought, "Here is a man for the ages." I did some research, wanting to know more him, I visited the Trinity Church website and found out it advocates Black Liberation Theology. Not knowing what that meant, I researched that too.

The following is from James Cone, the father of "Black Liberation Theology":

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

A person's beliefs are internal and sacred; but, what I think I need to know, as a citizen of this great, troubled country is: "What does 'Black Liberation Theology' mean to Sen. Obama and how does it fit into his life and how will it impact his ability to be the President for ALL of us?"

Why can't he just say, "This man is more than the sum of his beliefs and that is what I am find encouraging about him." Why? Because then Obama looses votes. I'm trying my best to figure White (Americans) people out when it comes to Pastor Wright. I saw Mr. Wright on C-Span at the Press Club in its entirety. I read the entire transcript.

The only area where I could find any potential for lack of judgment on Mr. Wright's part concerned his explanation as to whether or not the American government has knowingly given persons of color the AIDS virus. Besides citing a few authors who have done work on the subject, he provided no evidence...circumstantial or other wise for this being the case. Although as Mr. Wright pointed out, the American government has established precedent for giving African Americans syphilis (a fact) and Native Americans small pox (circumstantial).

But on every other point Mr. Wright made, he was right on point.

American terrorism against Native Americans and African Americans is comparable to Islamic terrorism. Don't you see that?

The Bible teaches us that the sinner must ask for forgiveness in order to be forgiven. America (Whites) has never asked African Americans for forgiveness when it comes to slavery. Don't you understand that?

You do believe their are issues which God would damn America on? Right? Just like I'm sure you believe their are issues God will bless America on.

Do you agree that the reason most African Americans look the way we do physically is because of the White male rape of our women which Mr. Wright alluded to? Should he not have mentioned this?

Zionism and Apartheid were comparable. Don't you understand that?

As an American citizen, Mr. Wright has the right to defend himself against his accusers. Don't you agree?

Pastor Wright doing what he thinks is God's will is more important than Citizen Wright keeping quiet until after the November election. Don't you agree?

How can we have an honest discussion about race in America when even some black people (let alone White folk) get upset when you let them see the dirty laundry?

Some Christians ask "What would Jesus do?" Well if you are a Christian (or even if you are just a reader of myths) you know what Jesus would have done when it comes to Mr. Wright. Jesus would not have kept quiet in order to make the Roman government and the pharisees happy. I'm sure their was discussion with Jesus to "chill the hell out" by some of his members. How did Jesus respond? He called the Jewish religious leaders out. Does this make Jesus an anti-Semite? He called the Romans out. Was he anti-Roman?

Jesus was persecuted and eventually executed by the mainstream (Whitestream) press and politicians of his day because he refused to be quiet.

I'm willing to put my eternal soul on the line when I write that concerning Mr. Wright and the points of race in America which he has raised, the sermons which he has received attention for, and comments he made at the Press Club, that he is 99 percent correct.

And on the Day of Judgment, if Rev. Wright is to be judged solely for those comments he will find himself at the right of Jesus in Heaven and those who take issue with him (if they are judged solely on this issue) will find themselves on the left of Jesus and thrown into the pit.

White America, I challenged you to go on record before God and say otherwise.

Obama is calculating -- he says whatever he thinks he needs to say to win the election. He saw Wright as an asset to begin with, keeping the black vote close, but finally realized that it was dividing the democratic party and reinvigorating racist antagonisms that had mellowed with time.

Too little, too late. If Obama is the nominee, his long association with Wright and his inability to make the right decisions in a timely manner will tarnish all of the state candidates who have endorsed him, the way they are already adversely impacting the candidates in NC who endorsed him.

Too bad, it is election time that Obama reacted that way. He accused Hillary that she 'will say anything to get elected.' Now, he can be accused of the same. Besides, he lied before on NAFTA memo and on not hearing personally the controversial sermons.

Only time will tell if he is really sincere. It will take some time to do some work to prove a person's character. Remember, we will be judged according to our works and not of words.

For further evidence of the sort of white racism and/or priviledge which Rev. Wright is talking about, check out the age of the White reporter on this blog. Mr. Romano is approximately 25, 26, or 27 years old. I promise you the average Black reporter working at Newsweek or any other national publication/television news program is much, much, much older.

A few years ago a national publication (it could have been Newsweek) did a story/study which indicated that the average African American who graduated within 5 years of entering college took until the age of 30 before he obtained a job in his chosen field of study. For the average White person the age was 23 years.

Mr. Romano represents the sort of White Affirmative Action which has taken place in America since the country's founding.

The equation completely changed after Wright's inane performance on Monday in front of the National Press Club. Sen. Obama has now realized the reality of his association with Rev. Wright and is taking the political road in attempts to fix the problem - Sorry the voters do not buy it and the Democrats best hope that Clinton pulls off some big wins. If not November is not looking good.

One thing we have all learned in our short time with Jeremiah Wright is that you don't have to hear him speak for too awful long before he makes sure you know where he stands on many of his more controversial positions. I find it unfathomable that anyone could attend his church for one year, let alone for twenty, and have any doubt about the hateful and venomous positions espoused by this so-called "christian church". Those who attend to one degree or another have to buy into this rhetoric. Otherwise, they would leave.

Obama would have us believe this whole recent flap is a new side of Jeremiah that he had not known existed or had never seen before. How stupid does he believe the American public to be? Only those who do not want to believe the truth at this point would have any trouble seeing it. Many will reasonably conclude that Obama and his wife stayed at Wright's church because they bought into the majority of the teachings being put forth. In any case, twenty years is more than enough time for most people to be repulsed and leave, if in fact they truly are repulsed by the views being put forth. No, Barak and his wife stayed, participated, and bought into whole package. Only now, when running for office, do they pretend to be angry and repulsed. But they've had twenty years.... It's too late now....

1. I did not write that white people sentenced Jesus as you suggest. But if you want to be technical, the Romans were Europeans. So yes White people (Pontius Pilate) did sentence and execute Jesus. But it is true (see I have the ability to agree with you) that the Jews wanted Jesus crucified for claiming he was the son of God. But they had no authority to kill him.

2. You write, "Until Whites and Blacks can stop the merry go round of EQUAL racism, it's not going to stop." How in the world can you equate White and Black racism in America as equal? Were Whites slaves for over 250 years? Where Whites deemed non-citizens? Did Black slave owners continually rape their White female slaves, thus producing half-breed and mulatto children like their White counterparts? (My bad, that never happened). After slavery, did Blacks hang and burn up Whites on trees? Did Blacks create Jim Crow and Separate and Unequal? Has their ever been a Black president in the 232 year history of this country? Does that tell you something about race in America?

3. You write," Are there White racists? YOU BET! And it's VILE. But, just as equally, there are Black racists. And that is vile too." You are absolutely correct, their are Black racist (once again I agree with you). The difference is that Black racist in America have not had the power to influence policy in America. White racist have. Don't you get that?

4. You write, "If White people voted along the lines of Black people, we would be called racist. But Black people voting in 90% blocks is acceptable and non racist." Maybe you are not aware of this Rossj, but Black people have voted in overwhelming numbers (sometimes 90 percent) for White candidates all the time.

I cannot see the Black community continuing their 92% support of Obama after he has denounced his friend and pastor of 20 years.

Obama’s credibility is now zero! You cannot sit under the preaching of a pastor/friend for 20 years and not know where he is coming from. Wright is right. Obama just says what he thinks he has to say as a politician!

Obama obviously knew all about Jeremiah Wright and his ideology for 20 years. Also, from Barack's comments in San Francisco and Michelle's comments they both agreed with their pastor to a large degree. But, they have continued there with their two young daughters.

Bring it on Rev Wright! Obama needs to learn to learn how to be authentic!

Interestingly, Obama was most angry about Wright's comments about him. Sounds like an arrogant narcissistic chip off the old block!

Paul- Thank you for understanding that I am having a true conversation and not just jumping up and down irrationally. Slavery was and is disgusting. The attrocities done to the slaves was a black light on our country that will never go away, ever. However, that was not me nor the people of today. I don't understand, truly, how what happened 250 years ago equates into today. In my ethnic background, American Indian, our people were mutilated and our lands destroyed. Our people were killed by the thousands for their land. WIth that said, I sure don't hold people today guilty of that charge. To me, it's not only harmful to me, but to my heritage. I'm not arguing that this country is messed up and unequal. There is no arguement that can be made to say that America is a ranbow, trip down candy lane, happy go lucky place. My point is that as someone who has fought, even if in my own small way, for civil rights, to be lumped in with a group of people because I don't vote for Obama bothers me greatly! My choices of support have nothing to do with gender or skin color. But, it does get tiresome having to "explain" myself because of who I support and defend myself because of my choice. And yes, I feel like, as a minority, I can justify my feelings. It just seems to me that people are so passionate about this subject, that it's an either "you are with me or against me" mentality. Now, I am about to say something VERY unpopular here. And I apologize ahea of time if it is offensive. But, of course there has been 90% black vote for one candidate that was white. Usually, there are only two white candidates. I have a friend that is African American who has been terrorized by his community because he is a Hillary supporter. He has been called Uncle Tom and has been threatened physically. He has been told that he needs to get in line and vote for the "black man". He said what was the most troublesome was that it wasn't, "Vote for Obama", but rather, "Vote for the black man." He now doesn't participate in discussions and to be honest, doesn't leave his home much. He lives in fear. And if people look, his experience is not isolated either.

I have read both of Mr. Obama’s books; I have listened with open ears and heart to him; and have followed all the candidates extensively on the news and during debates – this man, Barack Obama, is telling you the truth. The reality is that Mr. Obama has to be "political" in order to be elected president. Most White people do not want to hear the truth concerning racism.

Now, before someone calls me racist for the above letters, let me acknowlege those Whites who have taken up the cross for justice in America for all her citizens. The abolitionist John Brown is a person who's portrait should hang in Black homes right along side Martin King and Malcolm X. Most Black people would not have died for other Blacks as Mr. Brown did, who according to published reports could have escaped his captors at Harper's Ferry, but decided to die.

Slavery came to an end because of Whites. The NAACP was founded by Whites. White justices destroyed the separate but (Un) equal clause in the constitution. Whites helped end Jim Crow in the South. Whites supported the work of Martin King in the 50s and 60s with their finances. Whites were the founders of most African American universities.

Blacks are not morally superior to Whites and Whites are not morally inferior to Blacks.

This is what blacks have been doing to each other for a long time. When we see our brother moving up in life we find all means and ways to bring him down. We behave like crabs that pull each other down when they are put in a bucket.

Wake up Black America wake Up. This is our chance to have an idol like Martin Luther King to fight our course for us. The Al sharpons and the Rev Jackons have not done what they can do for us in the past. We need a fresh face like Barack who can speak to what the youth of black America want to hear and that is if You go to school and put your life straight there is NOTHING that you cannot achieve in America, and since Barack Obama has done it I can DO IT TOO.

Lets Build Human Idols for our children to look up to and DONT TEAR them DOWM . WE need Barack Obama to Have the biggest pulpit in the world to speak to our needs and for the whole world to see that A BLACK AND WHITE MAN can also make it in America.

If Obama had lived and raised here, he would be dead or worst! I personaly would have had fun doing it when i was young. as I'm the same age as Obama and can spell a tad better, i hated blacks, and most of all i hated oreos, mixed, burn,beat,trash there homes, cars paint the dog, and the house! ya he would not be running today, if he was completly from America! NOTICE: I HAVE LEARNED! "DEATH DOES NOT DISCRIIMINATE, NOR WILL I" Guess where i learned that? FIGHTING FOR THE LIFE OF OBAMA, BUT NOT PEOPLE LIKE YOU! Anyone who knew me 20 years ago, would not know who I am today! I tolerate biased friends, unless to out of control, i do not dump them, till they are totaly gone, as Wright has become today. Show no loyality to your Rev, and see the swift boat commercials now "cannot commit to his own Rev" bla bla bla which is all it really is, bla bla bla and has ZERO to do, with healthcare,education,economy,bla bla religion or color has ZERO to do with politics! Except in America, we can't nuke ourselves [yet] but "Do As We Say Not As We Do" or we will nuke ya! maybe just for thinking about it, as Mrs. Clinton has allready stated! WWIII if elected!

Please, I am getting turned off by politics. We finally have a great opportunity to elect an individual who is concerned about all of the citizens of this country; who is a positive force in our daily lives; who speaks of strong supportive efforts to bring everyone together;and, who is a involved father and supportive husband. He is young, smart and full of enthusiasm. Yet, there seems to be something wrong. I pray it is not the race of this young man. If Barack Obama cannot be nominated and elected president of this great country, then it will never happen. He is so qualified and we all know it! The news media is a huge part of this awful spectacle. They keep spinning and spinning, all day everyday asking the same questions, not seeming to care that people are being hurt emotionally and turned off and at the end of their programs they sit and talk about sports or some other thing that is going on in their lives. The news media seems so concerned about if a certain story will die; yes it will if youall will please stop. My friends and I are ready to move on and hopefully try to get some answers about our income, taxes, health care and insurance. I am 65 years old and I am praying that I live to see the day that a black man will become president.

It seems like Rev Wright and a lot of other people really need a lesson on Love, the Greatest and most powerful emotion of all is LOVE. LOVE conquors ALL. The greatest commandment was Love ye one another", for if you really love you can give others the benefit of the doubt based on it. Barack gave Rev Wright the benefit of the Doubt and did not throw him under the bus as some may say. He put him in the back of the bus but still on the bus. Rev wright came out to say I want to not only be back on the front of the bus but I want to Drive the bus. Well Barack out of Love, just dropped him off at the bus stop. And the bus is moving on. This is what I see in Barack, those things that are against the american people whom he love with all his heart, he will not stand down, and let whom ever come against the American People. He does not have to lie to get people to see, hear, and feel the Love he has for us. Those who are for him will be for him and regardless of this Rev. Wright issue will continue to be for him.

I said that certinally deserve having had their day and propheersized it would be shorter than we would like .It looks as if the Rev. Wright looks to fufill that.

I am not sure if their quarrel is real or not? Remember the NAFTA episode? Obama group informed the Canadians that Obama's opposition to NAFTA was just politics and did not really mean it? Then came his former pastor who said Obama was talking as politician when the latter denounced the former's controversial sermons? Don't you notice there is a pattern here?

But if Obama's outrage is real, he should have thought twice before going on TV. For this is not the end of it, Part 2 may be coming. Rev. Wright knows very well, perhaps the only person who knows the reason why Obama joined his church 20 years ago. He may reveal the true reason and cause more damage to Obama's candidacy. As no one is perfect, the pastor may even reveal Obama's weaknesses and past sins.

His dilemma is that he has to choose between the voters and his pastor. If he did not denounce his former pastor, he will lose votes. If he did denounce him, his pastor may hit back again for more damaging revelations.

This fight may not end but may end his hope to become president.

Obama disavowed Wright, not because of the offensive, racist, anti-American comments he has made - those were all well known months ago. No, Obama disavowed him because Wright criticized OBAMA, as being just a politician who was saying what he needed to say to get elected. Damning America doesn't get disavowed. Racist rantings don't get disavowed. But publicly calling Obama a disingenuous politician gets the Reverend thrown under the bus. Nice.

What Obama said today isn't much different then what he's been saying all along. Only this time Hillary's Conservative Cult are happy because they think they made Obama say it. Time and time again how many times has Hillary's Conservative Cult said if only Obama says these things will the attacks end. Obama must of said something the Conservative Cult liked because I bet by tomorrow they will be back to attacking Hillary again. Hillary's Conservative Cult saw where this was heading. If they continued to support Hillary, how could they attack her if she happened to win the nomination. The Conservatives painted themselves in a corner and the only way out was to accept Obama's rejection and get back on track in supporting McCain and not Hillary.

Lets get it right - Obama divorced Wright NOT because he does nto agree w/his views and share his life philosophy, but because he is running for office and needed to say whatever it took to get back voters and superdelgates. Does he really think America is that dumb? Guess so... Its over Obama, weknow the real deal no matter how you try to back peddle. I just wonder - Does Michelle still feel proud? What happened to Obama is nothing less than a Shakespearean tragedy. Wright is a race baiting, backstabing demagogue who thinks Obama owes him something and now wants to "burn this MF down" out of pure envy. Still, the Obama campaign was supposed to be about judgement, not experience and Obama's reaction under the microscope has demonstrated that he needs to exercise better judgment and gain more experience.

Hillary tried to offer Obama the VP spot but he brushed her off. Again, Obama's lack of experience and judgement made him underestimate his opponent and he now has almost no chance of getting nominated unless the superdelagates are willing to commit political suicide and hand the white house to John McCain. I would still like to see Obama in the VP spot as president of the senate. I think he could do a lot of good there and run for president after he has put some distance between his more radical associates.

Okay, for all you Clinton obsessives, I’ve got a real scoop for you. Not only was a “Clinton supporter” behind Rev. Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club (never mind that she is black, a professor at Howard University and suggested Rev. Wright's invitation two years ago - who cares about reality), but I have it on good authority (my hairdresser’s neighbor’s son’s dog) that it was a secret Clinton supporter who was the booker on the Bill Moyers program that invited Rev. Wright last Friday! No, no and there’s more! As unbelievable as it seems, it was a Clinton admirer who invited Rev. Wright to address the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP (okay he may just have admired her smile … but whatever) and and The Clinton’s were actually the ones who gave Rev. Wright the money to expand his ministry 20 years ago in Chicago (boy, they're good!)!! In fact, let’s face it, they are behind everything!! They control everyone!! Get out the tinfoil, you guys, they’re coming after your thoughts next- oh, wait, obviously they already have all of them. Have a nice day (courtesy of the Clinton’s - they also control the weather)

This isn't the big one. The big one is when a large percentage of voters discovers that Obama is all charisma and zero substance. Yes, Barack did vote to suspend the gas tax in Illinois; but he said that IT DIDN"T HELP because the RETAILERS DIDN"T LOWER THEIR PRICES AND .JUST POCKETED THE EXTRA REVENUE FOR THEMSELVES.

And even if retailers had lowered prices accordingly, what is another 18 cents per gallon savings really adding up to? $2 or $3 per tank? Wow!!! How impressive...NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good. Reverend Wright loves to hear himself talk; just like all loud-mouthed Pentecostal Preachers. It's his "15 minutes of fame", so to speak. He enjoys the loud rantings as part of his telling other people how to live their lives...."No thanks". Barack is far too intelligent for that kind of belief system anyway.

I see Revernd Wright as a person who like to be seen and heard speaking on nothing which will leads to nothing. The mesages he send hurts all Africian American, not just Obama. Most preacher at Penecostal churches spaks very loudly, and sent very negative messages as well as racial. What he needs to do is to step back and listen to the nonsense he speaks, becaus he is the only one who wants to hear it , doing times like this.

i have the impression that Mr Wright seems to resent being an Afro-American of slave ancestry while Mr. Obama, also an Afro-America, is not. Otherwise I can't see any reason whatsoever for his "position" on Obama.
