Obama's numbers add up to wishful thinking but not an electoral win.

You counted Ohio fo Obama which Clinton Won and Bush Won. Dream On.

You give NJ, Penn and FL to McCain states Clinton won leaving Obama with no choice but to win in Colorodo and NM.

A much better stratgegy would have been to nominate Clinton, win NJ, Ohio, FL, MI and WV and win the white house. As it is without Clinton as VP to bring at least one of those states in Obama looses.

The author forgets that Obama got almost zero support from Catholics where that demographic was measured and failed to identify Catholic disaffection as a potential issue with wooing the Hispanic/Latino vote in the southwest.

These states are more likely to reflect the dynamic of a state like NC which elects democrats for state and local positions, but goes republican in the presidential election.

Obama won't win the general. Hillary Clinton is the stronger candidate because she can put together a realistic expectation of winning sufficient electoral college votes.

The article clearly states how Obama can win - as is always the case, nothing is assured - but the strategy and approach are there. The polls haven't changed enough to invalidate the analysis. And if you did the exact same analysis for Hillary, you would get the same result - a strategy and approach by which she could win, but also no guarantee. I realize the Hillary supporters hate to hear this - but its over. Obama is going to be the nominee. All of the ranting and raving about how he cannot win is pointless - in addition to not being true. I think both Obama and Hillary worked very hard for the nomination, and before it was clear who the winner would be, I thought it would also be very fair to give whomever didn't win the nomination the VP slot. I still think that is true. But I also think Obama should only offer it to Hillary if she is going to accept. If she wants the offer just so she can snub Obama in one last act of pettiness, then he shouldn't offer it to her.

jonstorm; Your assumption that because hilliary won the primary in Ohio that the people will choose John McCain over Obama is faulty at best. Democrats may have been divided between Obama and Clinton but the division between either and McCain are drastic.With only 2/3 of the democratic primary voters in either Ohio , Pennsylvania and /or Indiana the Democrats have a lock. Missouri and Wisconcin are the places we have to carry to ensure a win. Stop thinking with your feelings and use your head. No rust belt state is going to fall for that Bush/McCain bull this time. Would you?

Obama is not only going to win, but once this primary is over (about 7 days), the democratic party will unite and route Mccain.

I am INDEPENDENT and came to a conclusion that OBAMA IS A DANGER NOT ONLY TO THE USA BUT TO THE WORLD!!!!

IT IS NOT HE PERSONALLY, BUT WHAT HE PRESENTS, A CANDIDATE WITHOUT A HISTORY TO RELY ON.

A Month ago I was discussing with a Republican friend, the different candidates their advantages and disadvantages; he mentioned that OBAMA is compared by his followers to John F. Kennedy. I mentioned that even Kennedy had his bay of Pigs, but the republican reacted “Yes, but see how Kennedy handled the Cuban Missile crisis”, I thought for minute and said “can you imagine the Soviets moving missiles into Cuba during, Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Bush, or Clinton?”, He thought and said “you are right, they would have not taken the risk, knowing how they will handle such a crisis”.

The fact that Kennedy was a young candidate without a proven history in Foreign affairs, encouraged the Russian Leaders to take the risk and test him. In their view they have been irresponsible not to test him. It also means that if Stalin would have been the Russian leader at that point in time he wouldn’t have backed off, with all the implications of a military confrontation.

It is exactly the same situation with OBAMA, he is a candidate without any history in International affairs. The North Korean, Iran, Syria, China, Russia, Pakistan, Chavez, Al Quida, will be irresponsible (in their view) not to test him. Especially after the Naïve and shifting positions he took during the primaries process. Such tests imply only additional danger to the world, as no one knows exactly what will be the reaction of the other side. OBAMA might react correctly, but he might also make mistakes that will have catastrophic results.

OBAMA is a typical graduate of Harvard University; a Harvard graduate thinks that he knows a lot, with a few exceptions, most of them are arrogant with very little knowledge. The advantage of John F. Kennedy over OBAMA was that he knew his limitations, thus he surrounded himself with an outstanding group of individuals who helped him in formulating the correct courses of action. OBAMA on the other hand does not have an idea what are his limitations, only a Manic-depressive person could declare that he has extensive foreign affairs experience that is based on the fact that he spent his kindergarten years in Indonesia, and that he spent a summer vacation in Pakistan “which makes him an expert”. I travel a lot and have spent lots of time in over 50 countries, sometimes several months in each visit. My IQ is probably double of OBAMAs, and still I will not dare to declare that I am an expert especially when dealing with Arab/Muslim countries. For OBAMA to declare it simply demonstrates an unbelievable level of arrogance, and frankly stupidity!! The situation looks more dangerous when you take into consideration the people who take key positions in his campaign advising him on foreign policy issues.

OBAMA has a very naïve view of the world, similar to Carter, Obama is a copy (worst) of ex President (good reddens) Carter who brought us Iran as it is today (a problem for the next 100 years), an inflation of 17% (the youth do not remember it). He also promised a lot of empty words during his campaign, but when he became President he was the worst President in US History leading to one disaster after the other.

I am not a supporter of the current President Bush, but I travel a lot in Arab/Muslim countries and discuss the situation with my hosts and people in the streets, one element that comes up in the discussions repeatedly, is Bush “Overreaction” to the 9-11 terrorist attack, (overreaction in the eyes of the Arabs, not mine), this leads to an attitude of “don’t mess with him and the USA, he overreacts so let’s wait for the next President who might be softer and on whom we can test new approaches”, they will not do it with McCain or Clinton, as they know what reaction to expect, but they will try it with OBAMA as he is a tabula Rasa for them. WHY DO WE NEED TO TAKE THAT RISK, LET HIM DEVELOP AN INTERNATIONAL HISTORY SO THAT WE AND OUR ENEMIES KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN OBAMA.

If OBAMA is the Democrats nominee, I voted for him during the primaries, well before he was vetted by Journalists. I wish the Journalists would have done their job much earlier. There is no way I could recall my vote, once we discovered who he really is. If I had to choose between HRC and McCain, I would have had to spend time analyzing each one of them and their positions in fine detail. On the other hand, during the general election, if the election is between OBAMA and McCain, I will be voting for John McCain, and I am not alone. I refuse to risk my future and the USA future to an inexperienced rookie with weak and childish foreign policies, razor-thin resume, and a past that stinks of anti-Americanism. It has nothing to do with his biracial race. The presidency is not an internship, and a vote for the weaker democrat, OBAMA, is a vote for McCain anyway.

I think the Clinton supporters need to stop blindly spouting the rehetoric of the Clinton campgain and think for themselves. Case and point:

Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton is now saying that unlike Democratic nomination rival Senator Barack Obama she beats GOP presumptive nominee Senator John McCain in “every poll.” The problem: it is not true.

During an evening rally in Montana’s largest city Tuesday night, Hillary Clinton explained to the crowd why she should be the Democratic Party’s nominee, but what ensued was a list of overstatements and exaggerations as she made her case. “You have to ask yourself, who is the stronger candidate? And based on every analysis, of every bit of research and every poll that has been taken and every state that a Democrat has to win, I am the stronger candidate against John McCain in the fall,” she said.

The problem is, there are a number of polls that show Clinton in a close race with John McCain, many within the margin of error, not including a few that show Barack Obama beating McCain by a larger margin than Clinton. The comment was intended to prove to voters that despite Obama’s popularity, she has what it takes to beat John McCain. Clinton said that voters have to ask themselves, “Who is the stronger candidate against John McCain? We have not gone through this exciting, unprecedented, historic election, only to lose,” she said.

There is an irony, and perhaps a red flag here. Today is a day when the news cycles are dominated by news that President George Bush’s former press secretary Scott McClellan has a memoir that is about to come out blasting Bush, Karl Rove and the White House and further documenting the reasons why the administration has one of the worst credibility gaps in American history.

There are continued indications that Hillary Clinton is nurturing has a big credibility gap of her own. A look at all the polls simply do not support her assertion that she is ahead in “every poll” — unless that means every poll that she wants to include because it’s a poll that shows her ahead.

For days, Clinton has been grasping at almost anything to make her case to voters as the clock in the campaign winds down. Most recently Clinton compared the plight of Florida and Michigan voters to the struggles of the early suffragists and likened the primaries of those states to the fraudulent election that took place in Zimbabwe.

Creating a credibility problem could be an unwise move. Superdelegates can do a bit of “Googgling” themselves and see that her assertion does not check out.

Forget the polling data, it is 7 weeks old, and will change many times over before Nov.

It is more likely to forget ND, NB, and NV from the above map for Obama... he likely wont win them. If he wins ND, it wouldnt make news because it would be part of a 40 state landslide.

IA is likely Obama, he did well in the state and has a huge organization, McCain did not do well and had a small organization, if any. VA is also a strong possibility for Obama given his strenghts in the state and recent changes in demographics.

But, it is more likely that he would win MO and NJ - giving him 272 electoral votes

all without OH, PA, and FL... and the likelihood that he picks up one of those is in the realm of possibility. Also, the possibility of NC or SC is a lot more likely than KY. Forcing McCain to stump out west means he isnt stumping in the south, creating a little room for Obama to work.

With NV, CO, NM, MO, FL, NC, OH, VA, and PA as battlegrounds, I have Obama at 234 votes, and those battleground states equal 126 votes, he only needs 36 of those to win. PA, VA and NM would do it - his most likely.

Just because a state has previously been a good predictor of an election doesnt mean it will always be so. Demographics change, and so does the political mood in states. For example, imagine telling a Democrat in the 1940's that Dems would completely lose the south and have to embrace the west coast and northeast in twenty years - they would have laughed at you.

To chrislpnm; Hilliary is to desperate to be named veep. Have you noticed what she has done in the primaries to disrupt and not recognize any reguard for rules and even her previously stated and recorded positions.Evry step of the way she has desired to change any thing that has gone against her own agenda. Obama has played by any and all rules that have been laid out. As soon as Clinton was behind she became unglued and even suggested we vote for McCain rather than Obama in an interview in Toledo. She will take the fight to change the rules , agreed upon by all candidates, all the way to the convention because she does not care that the party suffers or is even defeated, as long as she wins the nomination. That kind of desparation should not be one heartbeat from the presidency for the nations sake.

You only say these things to try to bring credibility to an otherwise incoherent arguement. You have no facts, just your own opinion base of your worldly travels and alledged conversations with various people. I think you have always been a Hillary supporter - which is fine, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Hillary and those that support her. I also think you are angry and bitter that she is not going to win the nomination. That's fine too - I think her supporters need a forum to vent their disappointment, and this is a good one to do just that. But I think you should as least have the courage and the honour to stand behind your convictions instead of hiding behind untruths.

Without Clinton as the party candidate, The Dems are doomed in the general

election. Clinton can deliver most of the states that she won in the primaries,

and which will play large in the G.E ... there will be no apportionment as with

the party's convoluted primary system that rewards losing and brings to the

fore a false picture of a candidate-proper. There will be no caucuses. Once

Obama is fully vetted, something the Repubs are holding back on in order to put

it to their advantage in the G.E.,Obama will be revealed as a practicioner of

Liberal Theology (without Rev.Wright in between the voters and the candidate ..

..a direct linear line to Obama) Omama will also come up way short on honesty

and integrity ("My father was a Kennedy-sponsored immigrant "... "my parents met

at the Selma march rally" ... "my uncle was a WWII liberator of Jewish prisoners, "etc.)

Obama will be peeled back for a clear look at what kind of man sees voters who do

not commit to him as bitter people who cling to their bibles and guns ... a sexist elitist

who refers to women as "sweetie." By the time Obama is actually fully vetted, the

"just believe" mantra will turn to "oh shut up." There will be no smooth-talking

way to re-create the groupie mentality that was so pervasive in the primaries,

the words just won't play anymore (too late !) What a mistake, what a tradgedy , what

a missed opportunity, that the 8 years of Bush will be followed by 4 more years of

To Patattn2me: Are you sure about Hillary suggesting people vote for McCain instead of Obama in Toledo? I hadn't heard anything about that - I would have thought that would have been a pretty big headline if it were true. I know Hillary got a little desparate in the campaign and did some things I didn't completely agree with, but I can't imagine her saying something like that. I only ask because I think it is terrible when people pass along campaign rehetoric without first checking their facts. Of course, if she did, you're right, she has not business being on the ticket. But if she didn't, I think she deserves a shot - I guess maybe I have more compassion for her than many Obama supporters. I think the two of them would make a strong team and be good for the country. I also think it would be the best way to heal the party, which is also important. Sure, there would be challenges, and egos would be one of them - but I still think the benefits are more than enough to make up for those challenges.

This map is fantasy. If McCain takes Pennsylvania, he'll also take Ohio and Virginia. And if the Republicans sweep the South, then the Democrats would have to sweep nearly everything else to get to the magic 270.

Obama will not cede ANY state to McCain! Obama has a 50 state strategy. Those that argue (using Clinton's talking points!) that "ONLY Clinton" can win the "right" states to beat McCain haven't been paying attention to the most incredible grassroots political movement in history. Obama's gotten more people registered to vote, excited more people about the potential of our future, has raised more money, has put more people on the ground, and been more organized, smarter and thoughtful than any presidential candidate has ever been. All those polls you see now WILL be different come the Fall! The politics of the past - the "normal" voting patterns will be different this November and the reason is Obama!

McCain has 2 grown sons in Iraq. He and his wife have an adopted daughter from like Bangladesh? He does't talk about these things much. I think these are important. It shows he is willing to give his own life for his country and willing to give his sons lives for democracy. My brother was for Hillary because he does not think Obama can win based on the big key states he lost against hillary In fact this electoral map shows that Obama just needs to win one battleground state (Ohio) to win election. My brother changeed his mind after looking at map and Pennsylvania (correct me ifI am wrong) has not went red in general election in 20 years? So hypothetically add Penn to Obama and what is the electoral numbers? Obama can win this election by just winning one key battleground state. I wish DEMS would not expand as much energy in Florida as in past. What has DEMS gained by campaigning hard in Florida last 2 general elections? Nothing but pain.

McCain doesn't have any combat experience. His airplane was shot down and was taken hostage and thereby became a Vietnam Veteran by accident. Those are my dads words (a Vietnam Veteran).

He's 71 years old, it is what it is. I can't trust my 63 year old father to make rational decisions why would I trust a 71 year old who spent most of his academy days drunk and passed out. The guy who graduate close to the bottom of his class. Look at what George Bush did in his administration; another less than stellar student.

If you are so smart why did you bring up his patriotism. I quit doing the Plege of Allegiance when I was 12 years old; once I realized what this country was founded on. America was built on some pretty questionable foundations. Entire Indian Tribes were wiped out and for people to always choose to ignore that and preach about beautiful america is wrong.

Obama hasn't spent years upon years in Congress doing nothing; he's not tainted he still has objectivity when it comes to important issues. Sometimes it's decent to think that you could change the world if given a chance. Isn't that what America is about.

The people of Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada will realize that and they will go his way.

Okay, Obama's main support comes from the black vote, the main part of which is in the South. And he loses the whole South in your projection. Now in polling data on whites, McCain beats Obama 52 - 40%. If you look at census data, you will see that 92% of Hispanics consider themselves to be of the white race. Maybe this helps to explain why Obama does poorly among Hispanics.

I don't believe that 92% of Hispanics are actually white, many seem to be of mixed race but this identification has political consequences. Contrary to what we are constantly being told, the percentage of whites in the population is actually increasing based upon this Hispanic effect. It was 75% in 2000, it is 80% now. This does not bode well for Obama in non southern states. These states have a higher percentage of whites than the South does and Obama loses the South.

But still according to your projection above, he wins most of the non Southern states? Something is not computing here!

Hypothetical by Romano. Reality is that Pennsylvania goes for BHO way before Ohio does. Polling done by Newsweek fails to take in Likely Voters vs. Registered Voters. Now it could be argued that Registered Voters will finally vote when the election is contested, but the reality is that Likely Voters do produce in any election better than 10% above Registered Voters when doing an accurate poll, accordingly I would support Rasmussen over Gallup and Zogby over Newsweek. Anyone can write an article, but having it be accurate should be something that Romano tries to do in the future.

I can't find a single friend my age or older who can tell me of someone they know who the truly believe should or could run the country at the age of 71-75years. The whole idea is foolish. It's not like running a corner store and not even like running a large corporation where the minions do most of the work. We only have one vice president, not dozens. He is older than my oldest brothers and they can't believe it either.

There are certainly some bizarre posts on this site, but really they have appeared on ALL of them since this campaign started. There are people babbling about Obama having baggage ... uh, there isn't a politican alive that doesn't, ESPECIALLY John "Keating 5" McCain and Hillary "Whitewater" Clinton. Some "former army sergeant" thinks Obama is a "sloth and an idiot" but I'm an Air Force lieutenant colonel who refuses to believe either one, based on Obama's resume. Maybe, "Sarge" you should compare yours to his and see who is really what. There's also some disrobed fanatic advocating "white power" as if we haven't heard that enough ever since slave days. Lastly, there's some "intellectual" world traveler, n'er-do-well who thinks he speaks with some authority on Obama's "threat" to the U.S. based on his percieved lack of foreign policy experience. Guess we would have been without quite a few great presidents if that was the litmus tests -- not to mention that the 'smart' ones surround themselves with even 'smarter' people. Okay all, vent as you must, but that doesn't change the outcome. The first fact is that Obama will be the Democratic nominee and he's earned it because he has employed the proper strategy to win. From my personal standpoint, I let God deal with them and those issues AFTER this life. As for here and now, I put my faith in people who treat people AS people. That said, there are those who may not be too warm to the idea of a black president yet, but certainly favor their wallet and their liberties. If you are a lower-income earner in this country, you would do well to think long and hard before casting a vote for someone the unions do NOT support ... like John McCain. There's but a hair's worth of difference between Obama and Clinton policies, so don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Hurting your family, ala universal health care or NAFTA -- both of which John McCain opposes -- may not be in your best interest in the long run. As for these polls that everyone keeps touting, watch them again tomorrow, they'll be different. The same is true of the next day, etc. More importantly, you will NEVER get a true answer from someone being polled that is a diehard Hillary supporter if someone is being asked about a contest between McCain and Obama. I did see some good posts though. I agree with the person below who said they had conversed with some of their friends (who were over 63) and said that it is quite a bit different from running the local corner store. I am 65 and I can tell you the old cogs start to get a little rusty and not working like you think they should. Why is it the rest of us have to retire at 72 but yet someone can still hold office (a lot more responsibility) . It doesn't seem right does it, that the estimate time to die hits into the middle of his term. Not getting our money's worth on that deal.

As for the West, what is the West? He has most of the West already. He could probably get California, if they would take their heads out of their butts and look at what the Reps have really done for them. The state, prior to Arnie, was probably the most business unfriendly place in the US. As for doing things that California has already started, what could be more in keeping with their basic tenets of change and moving faster than the rest of the country. They fit right in with Obama. All you have to do it try to buy a house in California to get the real impact of what the Reps have done for the state.

Arizona doesn't have that much difference between his policies and their beliefs. It wouldn't take much to get them over.

So, all he has to do is come talk. He came up to Oregon, we have a meeting for him in Portland that had 75,000 people. Try to do that with a McCain or Hillary town meeting.

Repaite@msn.com I commend you on zeroing in on the fact that there is no substance to anything the democratic front runner has to say. He is the proverbial sack of hot air. Though his charisma and ability to get where he has gotten with nothing worries me. If in fact he comes from the humble beginnings that he states he better than any of the candidates should know that each individual must make a decision to change their lives and be willing to do the hard work necessary to bring about said change. I want to hear how these candidates are going to motivate people on a grass roots level to get up, get a plan and follow through thus change their lives and change the lives of their children. I am responsible is the motto I want to hear. Why doesn't anyone have the necessary anatomy to stand up and say, "if you want change by goodness grab the reins and go!" There are programs aplenty but we have got to help ourselves. Life is a journey, a process and the amazing thing is we live in a country that allows us to become anything we choose if we are willing to go the distance. If anyone has the audacity to rebut this claim then I have the audacity to question your IQ. Get real, get honest and cut through all the BOLOGNA and freakin' acknowledge the amount of grace that is bestowed upon all of us "Ugly Americans!" And that is all I have to say about that.

I agree that Obama is ahead in the delegate count as a result of his campaign tactics. His agreements with Richardson, (Biden wouldn't agree), to move supporters to his circle if he didn't have at least 15% and his promise to return the favor, his bussing of supporters to caucus sites by the hundreds during the last hour of caucusing and refusing to provide address information, his flyers providing out of state Illinois residing students directions on how to caucus in Ohio, etc were quite creative. Were these maneuvers fair? I would say NO. Were they within the rules? The rules didn't cover them. Either no one had thought of these "creative" methods, or they had already deemed them too unsavory to use or contrary to fair play. Obama's campaign tactics may very well change the way elections are held in the future.

I think Georgia, with Atlanta and 30% of voters being African-American, would be a much wiser choice than Ohio. Being from Ohio, if McCain puts any kind of religiously known man on his ticket, he will singlehandedly take Southern Ohio, which, as we all know, was how Bush won Ohio. If Obama ramps up the African-American turnout and wins his usual higher-educated turnout and college vote, he's got a great shot at taking Georgia. Just look at Bill's numbers in 92 in Georgia. Also, Louisiana would be a second choice, since he's already written and spoken so much about Katrina. Your article says to ignore the South, but with Obama's populist message and heritage, this might be the only election where Democrats have a chance there. So I'd agree with your 'ignore the South' assessment, but not for this election. Not this time.

His hometown has below average schools, high violence rates, and increasing taxes. He encouraged voters to support a handpicked County Board Chairman candidate when he could have backed a real reformer in the primary - Forest Claypool. Mayor Daley his patron has raised taxes as has Todd (hire your family and friends) Stroger. The tax raises are hurting the poor. He votes the Democratic liberal line in Congress. auntidi - in the bible the reference is that even the devil believes - and knows who Jesus is. So, it seems there may be a little more to it than just lip service. It also states in the good book that there is one lord, one faith and one baptism. In the book of ephesians it states that there would be prophets and apostles so that we could all come in the unity of the faith, be perfected, unto the stature of christ. His trinity church teaches a different christianity than my church - doesn't seem very unified, or one faith. Again, there is more to believing in jesus than just lip service, for the devils believe and tremble. Belief is one thing, action is another. It doesn't matter to me whether Obama is a muslim or a christian - all I care about is if he is a good man, with character and values to lead my country. I haven't seen that yet from him. So what he believes and what he says he believes need to become congruent before I could may a decision to support him.

When has Barack Obama shown clouded moral judgement? I think people need to learn about what he's done in his life. Just one instance was when he gave up going to law school to be a community organizer for a few years because that's what he felt was right. Yes, he did go to law school but he spent a few years advocating for the poor and fighting for better conditions in the south side of Chicago. Obama has refused to attack John McCain on anything but issues instead of making cheap campaign shots like the contrived flag pin "controversy". The Jeremiah Wright incident also seems very contrived to me. Wright seems to be a caricature of his past self. He said some awful things, but Obama couldn't just get rid of him because it was politically convenient. This was the man that introduced him to God, and that is such an important thing. It must have been very hard for Obama to see a man who has done so much for Chicago becoming a caricature of himself and inviting the racism and prejudices through ridiculous actions. It saddens me that people give credibility to these "issues". Hagee said worse things than Wright and McCain didn't get rid of him until the "Hitler was sent by God to push the Jews back into Israel" remarks. I'm a Catholic and I'm deeply offended that McCain didn't reject the endorsement once the "great whore" remarks surfaced. Obama's not perfect, but there is such hypocrisy in this race. People are tired of the way our government's being run and that's why I think Obama will win in the general.

Name recognition is the name of the game. Clinton's tenure provided Hillary with such recognition. Early primary voting, specifically, super Tuesday, had not provided Obama enough time for potential voters to become familiar with Sen Obama; emerging unrecognized by the electorate. Further, pundits (disregarding the recognition factor) were forever busy proclaiming an erroneous mantra that Hispanics have difficulty voting for Blacks; while all populations vote for the familiar rather than newcomers.

Obviously they are not the only democrats voting, they are about one half, but they make up a significant block of voters. I was making a point of newer liberal vs long term, moderate democrats. Plenty of progressive urban democrats support Hillary as well, me being one of them. The question of where I'd rather live is a very subtle yet pointed insult based on a sense of superiority that seems to exist amongst some Obama supporters. Wisconsin's unique landmarks once again find themselves in the pages of the latest novel to be presented to readers of history, thrillers and religion in a work that combines all three genres into an adventurous global conspiracy.

The Epoch Point, just released on May 1 and written by Wisconsin native Spencer Zimmerman, is a fictional novel that includes historical facts, certain to intrigue history buffs who are interested in history from the local to the international level, especially as that history thrillingly plays out into what Zimmerman describes as a worldwide "conflict between God and the devil, good and evil."

According to the book's synopsis, the lead character, Robert Davis, is "a young Airman fresh out of Air Force basic training," reflective of Zimmerman's own recent service in the Air Force. "After being held captive in China, (Davis) suddenly finds himself unraveling the most immense conspiracy in history...soon uncovering hidden facts suggesting Russian and Iraqi involvement...discovering the diary of Lee Harvey Oswald...As the clues surface, an evil emerges powerful enough to rewrite the entire history of humanity...before long the conspiracy takes on a supernatural form, marked by [natural disasters] and the wrath of God...Nothing [prepares] (Davis) for the final suspenseful twist the story takes, a da Vinci style revelation that reaffirms his belief in Christ."

Zimmerman, having lived in several locations around Wisconsin, including near Lake Mills and Watertown, incorporated Wisconsin locations and history into his novel, among them a Viking cathedral on Washington Island and the events surrounding Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy. Also mentioned is a small village outside of Burlington, Wisconsin, founded by a Mormon religious leader who proclaimed himself king, the only monarchy to ever occur in the forty-eight continental states in American history. Among the other Wisconsin landmarks in The Epoch Point, and most notably, the famous national landmark Aztalan is discussed at length.

Zimmerman's discussion of Aztalan in his book in part follows what Zimmerman calls the "darker" side of Aztalan, including its cannibalism and religious practices, and the instantaneous disappearance of its thriving population. Zimmerman's writing also seeks to make connections between Aztalan's existence with that of the Minoan civilization from Ancient Greece and Zoroastrian culture of the Middle East. All three peoples had similar beliefs, worshipped fire (one of Aztalan's mounds is believed to have been the abode of an "eternal" flame) and practiced human sacrifice and cannibalism.

Zimmerman noted all of these "obscure (historical) connections," which ultimately inspired him to take the connections and formulate them into an adventurous plot. Writing his book took roughly two years.

The book's chapters are titled after the sixty-six books of the Bible, and the plot progresses as Davis reads through each chapter of the Bible, opening the Bible for the first time in chapter one of The Epoch Point. Each chapter follows a "flashback" style in structure, in which the book's characters experience revelations of historical events and experiences from 4000 B.C. to the present, which allow them to observe how those events contributed to the global conspiracy they are presently confronting. Zimmerman states that the book's events begin on New Year's Eve of 2000, and end on Christmas of 2006.

While writing novels remains at present a hobby for Zimmerman, he already has ideas for a second novel that he anticipates will follow a more scientific fiction path. The Epoch Point is currently available through Amazon.com, and Zimmerman is hoping to get copies of the book into some of Lake Mills's downtown novelty shops.

A Father/Daughter Talk

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of 'the redistribution of wealth.'

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She did not even have time for a boyfriend, and did not really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'

She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.'

Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That wouldn't be fair! I have worked hard for my grades! I have invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'welcome to the Republican Party.???

Comment: Here are the facts for all to see and read..anyone who thinks rationally can only conclude that Obama is a phoney and a Liar !

Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a Black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita, Kansas.

Moderate Muslims can no longer tolerate Obama. He and his wife are haters for his wife to say that this country is no good and this country has never been good to her. Obama should denounce his Pastor Jeremiah Wright, who has connections with Louis Farrakhan, along with him being friends with that underground guy William Ayres who he says is his friend after he bombed the Pentagon in1972, he received money from William Ayres, and this guy is way worse than Mark Rich.

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school." Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. The terrorists that crashed into the Twin Towers were once all enrolled in the study of Wahabism..just as Obama was!!

Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected Presidential candidacy. The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own!!!! ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office - he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Kuran (Their equivalency to our Bible, but very different beliefs) Obama also refuses to pledge allegiance to the USA flag.

How can someone who wants to be President refuse to commit to the USA? Before you vote for any candidate, remember how many people are disgusted with Obama???s autobiography!!!!

Voters be cautious in this crucial election that means so much to the USA and the free world.

I really liked that analogy and had always figured that to be the main mind set behind those against the "redistribution of wealth". I'm not fully for it, as hard work should pay off. there would be no reason to get ahead in this society if all your extra were taken away from you.

But the other side is just as compelling. The story paints a picture that everyone benefiting from redistribution are lazy, irresponsible lay about who barely scrape by. This is partially true. Some are exactly that. But what about the other half? What if "Audrey's" 2.0 didn't come from her partying, but from her not having the lab fees for books, or time to work with tutors on her weak subjects because she is working overtime just to keep herself in school?

Not everyone gets to a place in life the same way. Some have to work harder to get there because they don't have the advantage of others. This single mother may wish she could send her son to that college prep private school. But she can't afford the cost, so she has to hope he's getting the proper education in a decent learning environment (and environment means a lot!) in the inner city school he goes to. And when it comes time to go to college, she knows he will have to pay for it all himself with loans because she can't save for him on her hourly wage. Is it the boy's fault that his mother was not prepared?

"Well, she should put more effort into his education at home if she really cared!" Ever work two jobs to raise three kids in a single parent household? If you did, I don't think you'd be so quick to make that kind of assertion. And, what if she just didn't put the effort in? Again, is this the boy's fault?

My sister got pregnant when she was young (14) and stupid. If our family were not as caring as it is, my nephew would easily fall through the cracks. Not everyone is so lucky. If she were left alone (and it happens) to deal with raising him, would she be able to raise him in to the diligent, responsible student that could maintain a 4.0 through high school for scholarships to the pricier colleges? (in the poor learning environment of a public city school).

the analogy smacks of elitism in that it assumes if you don't have, you just didn't try hard enough...

Everything isn't so black and white....

I'm sorry but I'm an atheist who is going to a Catholic church so that my Fiance can get married in her church. If Obama was not Christian then there is no way in F'n hell that he would attend any church for 20 years. And if Muslims were going to beat us from the inside out then they must have a time machine to get back the 20 years to tell Obama to start going to that church to throw off our scent. To argue that he is Muslim or that his crazy pastor is being kept in a cellar is ridiculous at best. Vote for who you think should win. And if anybody on this site thinks McCain is winning the most liberal state in teh union NJ then they are as crazy as Wright is. We dropped Lautenburg into an election a week before voting and he won in a landslide b/c he's a democrat.

I just read all of the comments and I tell ya - the absolute stupidity of the American voter is breathtaking. I read comments about Rev. Wright being held hostage in a cellar, something about a turtle lying on its back, the rumor that Obama was muslim and a lot of other pure BS.

There should be a law that no one could vote unless their IQ was at least 99 (which is imbecile level) - that should eliminate most of the idiots who vote republican or say they will switch parties if poor, pitiful Hillary doesn't get her way.

You know, a few people have had some interested comments/projections about Florida and God knows historically my sunshine state has some issues when it comes to the voting however I do not think that it is wise to county Florida as a loss to the democrats. Hillary faired well in the primaries, true however Obama has a rather large following that did not come out due to being told that our votes would not count for breaking the rules. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well he has motivated the base. I dont think that I've seen so many of our youth be interested in politics. This whole nominee drama bout Hillary vs Barack, it will hopefully come to an end soon. Regardless of whom the democratic nominee is, dont be surprised if Florida shocks you (in the positive sense, of course).

While I do support Obama, I love Hillary too (just not as much as her supporters). I do NOT on the other hand, intend to "make nice" with McBush fans. The man is a bumbling idiot and his whole claim to fame is in question when he has to be reminded of the facts surrounding the war, from Lieberman or worse yet, he actually believes that we are better off now than we were 8 years ago. I have been Democrat all my life know this to be true. The only way I vote Obama is if Clinton on ticket as V.P.If not I will vote McCain in November. It is so sad a day in my party. I have always believed Obama is not a man for the country. He fails miserably at Hispanic concerns and just a nod at our lower class hard working white population. Barack Obama would actually be much better for America security. There's no doubt to me McCain would be better than Bush, the Bush years being probably as much about fueling terrorism than fighting it. But McCain would still represent (but less) what can be seen as America's arrogance, something that makes USA so unpopular around the world. A black man with Hussein as a middle name would send a clear message in Middle East that America is about freedom, an important contrast with some form of imperialism. Combined with Obama intelligence about understanding dialogging with enemies, I humbly think this would affect directly terrorism recruiting. I may sound over-optimistic, but I think his image alone as a president could do more for democracy in Middle East than any war.

This Economy common sense!! yet many Americans have difficulties to understand the basic of their existence in first place.Check out the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18 and 19). Take a look at Romans 1:22-32. Pretty sobering reading - if you are not too self-important and arrogant to think you've already got it all figured out and don't need the input of the Ancient of Days. Along with the fact that McCain cares nothing about women's health issues, does not support preserving a womans right to decide what she wants with her OWN body, voted against SCHIP (medical coverage for poor children), voted against Katrina victims receiving additional unemployment benefits, voted against finding out the causes (twice) of the levee breakage, surrounds himself with special interest groups (which means company's benefit and WE DON'T), flip flops on EVERY issue (bad memory or pandering) where he NOW wants to to drill for oil off our coast lines implying that will help people get cheaper gas (NOT TRUE) and it will take approx 10 years to get the little oil there is which goes against his big speech about how he's for the environment (nonsense). Now, he's using Carle Fiorina to try and capture the Womans vote which is absurd! She ran HP into the ground, used spy tactics on HP employees because she wanted to find out who was leaking her (bad) management decisions to the press and lastly but MOST importantly....She is directly responsible for the OUTSOURCING of HP jobs to India and touts about it on 60 minutes saying "she sees nothing wrong with this decision). WISDOM??? Where do you see any wisdom???? And, he's NOT educated.

Hi! I'm an Independent voter. I live in Nevada. I don't know if Obama will win. We hope so. I see all the signs, I hope they translate to votes. I will be voting Obama in November. We do want Obama to win so much!

Obama's clearly the best man for the job. I think McCain can't handle being president. The daily grind, the travel, etc. A vote for McCain is a vote for his VP, and I can't do that, because his VP didn't create all the excitement in this election, Obama did.

McCain can't bring back the prestige America has lost, but Obama can. There are so many people all over the world, the citizens and leadership alike who cannot wait to welcome Obama as President of the USA into their countries. He would be our first global president. He's a global citizen who happens to be American. I'm so proud. No one really wants to see or deal with McCain. It's just more of George Bush/McSame/George III. I don't like McCain's temper. We don't need a man with a temper who calls women cun* in the White House. I don't like his wife. She'd make a horrible first lady. The term lady would be used very loosely with her. She's not a lady, she's trash with 100 mil in the bank. Cindy McCain would be a terrible example for young girls and young ladies. She defrauded a charity she helped found by stealing and doing the drugs intended for needy patients. If any regular American would've done that, we'd be running from the cops, not running for the White House. Felons can't vote, much less think about being first lady. She did no jail time. She was also involved in another scandal where the other folks involved did jail time, but once again, not Cindy. She only got richer out of the scandal. I guess her motto is, "I don't do jails". She's above the law and clearly above every other American citizen. Rules do not apply to Mrs. Cindy McCain. I do not like that. Most people can't relate to her and her life and how she gets away with everything without consequence. It's not our life, it's not our story. It shouldn't be hers either. I just don't want her in the White House. She's not first lady material. Truth be told, her hubby isn't presidential either. He flips and flops on every single thing. He flipped on his first wife. She was in a car accident and it made her crippled. His promise of "Til death us do part. For better for worse", went right out the window the moment she was in need. If he'd do that to her, he'd do it to America, too. He started messing with Cindy McCain and through their adultery, they hooked things up and here we are.

The Obamas don't have all that baggage. And the fake Jesus, anti American is actually John McCain. Barack Obama is pro America. He's an American from Hawaii, who's grandfather served in WWII and his grandma did her part, too. She was better than Cindy McCain. I will be doing my part here in Nevada to help the West turn Blue. We deserve it. I don't want to be under Juan and Evita McCain. They're losers. McCain puts me to sleep everytime he's on tv, instantly. He's dry, dull, boring, looks nervous and scared, and sounds like a 1st grader when he speaks. Get real. The best man for the job is Obama. Admit it and let's get on with running a better country. Also...I've been seeing some folks talking about Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger. You know what? I don't care. You know why? Because they are not Obama. Some of the things some folks are typing on here are worse than Wright or Pfleger, but you know what? I don't care, because you're not running for President. I will be voting Obama.
