The debates are far better than orcestrated shows.

Compare the last two speeches from McCain to the ones given by Obama. It seems to me that McCain is going through the motions without any comprehension of where he wants to take the country.

Well I watched all three speeches and of course Obama's was best. McCain is scary, at best. His speech writer did the best he could but it's up to the orator to deliver it and he just didn't deliver it. He might blow a heart valve if he gets too riled up, you know his age and all.

Who is Obama's speech writer? I know he wrote the speech he did on race himself. Could he write all of his own speeches? That would be a hoot if he did because then everyone would shut up about his speeches and stuff.

Hillary's was good too. The only problem with hers was she didn't even congratulate Obama at all, which kind of sucked. I think the word "denial" came to mind when I was listening to her.

Oh well.

Pleae spare me the BS on Obama. He has the most liberal voting record in the senate - meaning he is the most partisan. He has no record to run on, he has no leadership position on anything and his entire position on Iraq is "lets run!" Five years after a Obama presidency, we will have the worlds largest, open terrorist camp in the world running in Iraq and the US will be under constant attack. Even Hillary agrees with that.

He wants to run an isolationist government and raise taxes; a combination of the politics that lead to the great depression and Jimmy Carter. Scary. In 2005 he said his insprational leader was Rev Wright, now he denies knowing him. let's face it, he used the Rev. to get elected in Chicago, talk about Politics as usual!

Newsweek runs Obama on the cover every other week and should be paid by the Obama campaign. The only McCain stories are negative. At least run a formal endorsement on the front page and be open about it.

Please! America's fascination with TV has turned the election process into an orators' showcase. Since when does the ability to make great speeches qualify anyone to lead this country? Do qualifications not count anymore? Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower could't speak their way out of a wet paper bag. Fritz Mondale and Al Gore waxed eloquently. Yet, history tells us that the men who won that high office led with vision and confidence. Leave the beauty contests to the entertainment channels, and accept politicians on their merits.

I think a good orator makes their words sound more believable. Listening to John McCain makes you realize that he's reading a speech and reciting words that are probably not his own. Obama's delivery, on the other hand, comes across as very sincere - whether he wrote a speech or not. While Obam doesn't have the experience platform to run on, he can certainly excite/inspire people to follow him better than anyone I've ever seen.

I'm sorry, but you just have to think this is funny. I almost feel sorry for those that will almost certainly have to vamp up for even more of a smear campaign. The lies and propaganda that will become the Republican's only way of winning will almost certainly start in full force today. How else can they tamp down the excitement of the American People who have very serious plans to take back the country from politicians like George Bush and John McCain. I could barely sit through watching him on t.v. while waiting for the "main event". Having said that, I can say, boredom aside, I am hugely confident that Obama could pick Raggedy Ann as his running mate and she would have more appeal to Hillary's army of voters than McCain will. John McBush-Cheney tells the American people that they know where he stands. First he was against extending the tax cuts for the rich and now he says he's for it because he feels it would be a tax increase if allowed to expire. This was a tax break that was passed by a Republican Congress and signed into law by Bush and is only TEMPORARY. It is not a tax increase as the right wing would like you to believe when it expires because those rates are set to expire on a specific date and time and the rate after that is ALREADY SET. It would only be ANOTHER tax break for the wealthy if extended. Funny how they try to spin things and sad how some fall for it. "Tell the lie enough and people will believe it". Can't remember if it was Bush or Cheney who goes by that phylosophy. Probably both. McBush-Cheney says he won't raise taxes yet he is for creating a new tax on Health and Welfare Contributions made by your employer in your name. That alone would amount to a HUGE tax increase for anyone left in this country who is fortunate enough to still have Health Care after the nightmare of the past 7+ years. Maybe what he really meant was that new taxes don't fall under the I won't raise your current taxes (if it's not a current tax it's fair game). Kind of like V.P. possibility Gov. Tim Pawlenfee of Minnesota who added new burdens to his constituants, called them "fees" and said those are not tax increases they are user fees just so he could claim he held to his no increase in taxes pledge. Sounds like some of the Co-Chair of the McBush-Cheney Campaigns ideals rubbed off McBush-Cheney himself. McBush-Cheney is so busy trying to suck up to the conservatives that he is scrambling to change his thinking to appease their positions. That's what he means by change is coming. It's either that or McBush-Cheney has alzheimers and can't recall where he stood before. We've already had one Prez with alzheimers, we can't afford another. I read today that Jindal is high on the list as a V.P. possibility. Jindal being Catholic I wonder if he will leave the Catholic Church in light of the Catholic Priest Flagglers (sp) rants this past week. Not so funny how the right wing nuts try and pin that to Obama simply because of where it was said and not by who said it. They should be calling on Jindal to denounce this man and leave the Catholic faith if they were truly fair and balanced. Not so funny either how years after ranting on about Katrina and how it was gods punishment by a big time supporter of McBush-Cheney who is also a religous leader that McBush-Cheney denounces his remarks and refutes his endorsement only AFTER accepting and spending his donations. Guess he doesn't need donations anymore from him cause he already had them. Just recently McBush-Cheney released his physical records, ask yourself why he REFUSED to release his pshycological records. What's he got to hide? McBush-Cheney stands for McMore of the McSame and more McPain.

You're all right; McCain cannot talk..whether ad libbing or reading from a speech supposedly written for him! And the way his eyes keep dancing reminds me of a naughty little boy who just stole something and is afraid he'll soon be caught.

Accepting speakers on their merits is wonderful, especially when they have some! All McCain ever talks about is talk about-in other words talk about nothing-no substance-no even hopeful fixes for any of our issues-and mostly no talk about. That's just who he is when it comes to issues...NOWHERE!!! He needs to stay home at his ranch in AZ and if he's able, perhaps watch old Mr. Bush's speeches like "Mission Accomplished".

As I watched McCain deliver his speech it was difficult to watch. I was actually embarassed for him and somehow I enjoyed watching him struggle.

I was so busy watching his terrible display of speaking that I don't really know what he even said. He is just not an inspiring speaker. I am so glad that I am not a Republican I would be very worried if McCain was my nominee.

Just talking about him makes me want to take a nap.

What I see in McBush-Cheney is what the Republicans were left with after 7+ years of disaster. Kind of like oh well we have to put someone up for nomination so might as well be Old John, with his age he'll be gone soon anyway. He represents failed policies across the board. I am however awaiting anxiously on Bill O'Reillys show the segment where Bill has the speech analyst come in and give her take on McBush-Cheney's speech last night. That is going to be hillaryarious..

Where were all the people, it must have been late at the nursing home and the orderlies were already putting the residence to bed......Obama can gather people - look at what he did in Portland Oregon a few weeks back - over 70,000 people showed to see him speak.

Darkstartwo...no offense, but if substance is what matters, your post is lacking as well, in both spelling and content. In terms of reactions to speakers: 70% is how you speak, 20% is how you look, and only 10% is what you say. McCain was lacking the 90%. Obama has the charisma, the content, and the look of a leader. If you saw his speech last night, he didn't need to look down at his notes to remind himself of what came next (like Clinton had to), he didn't lull people to sleep as McCain did, and he understands that this country is headed in the wrong direction and actually has plans on how to change the nation.

The problem with the McCain speech is that he was unconfortable delievering certain of the lines that had been prepared for him--thus the smirking and halting delivery which resulted in a smarmy appearance. McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities.

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. Lets fact it, McCain was horrible. And, don't tell it read better either. It was an insulting, belittling speech toward Obama. Now, McCain has a great tendency to insult and belittle (which speaks to his character -- I don't care how long he spent in a prison camp, he still has a lot of respect to learn). He talks about how full of himself he was when he was young -- he is still full of himself but old and full of himself.

Thank You Spanky75, you are 100% correct. Much of what I read is supported by lack of facts. My frustration lies in witnessing blind insults (mostly with only fear to back it). One of the things that Obama has put forth in his campaign is his willingness to TALK to others even in the face of adversity, which is what I truly wish would happen amoung us Americans, for a change! McCain's speech last night was so FAKE!! Everytime he thought he had said something clever and demeaning about Senator Obama he flased that fake smile. Everyone knows McCain is not a speaker. He is also a maverick on demand at best. I believe if he could afford it, he would hire a speech writer. I believe Cindy is writing his speech because a real speech writer would have never let him go on the air with that one(speech). He resembles Bush even in his performance. Those who think that abandoning ship in Iraq would be a good decision have lost their minds. How could you abandon those people? Such an action would result in the destabilization of the entire region causing a holy war among the Shiites and Sunnis not only in Iraq, but the region as a whole. You complain about $4 a gallon gas now, what do you think that would do?

You talk about McCain as a flip-flopper, what about Obama? The man has gone back and forth repeatedly between pulling troops out immediately and remaining there for a longer period of time if he were elected president. Simply put, he will say anything in order for you to nominate him. You think he will honestly change anything? Last time I checked there was a balance of power established by a piece of paper known as the Constitution. Two years ago when the Democrats took control of Congress and the Senate did anything change? Their platform for election was to end the War in Iraq. Did that happen? No, they signed bills in order to continue funding the war. If the Democrat controlled Congress and Senate wished to end the war they would have cut funding, which would have forced the troops to come home. Why didn’t they do that?

Next time someone says Obama is the bringer of change, maybe look a little deeper and you’ll see there is nothing there but veil of charisma over an empty jar. Read this article from the New York Times and see if this is who you want as your next president.

I have to say I would far rather listen to Hillary Clinton speak than John McCain. An orator he is not. Of course, the fact that he really does not have anything new to say could be a problem too. He is just plain boring. And his tendency to speak softly as if that conveys a kinder, gentler message is just plain silly. This is the man who loves war so much he wants it extended for 100 years. John McCain is the wrong candidate for the wrong time. Twenty years ago I would have voted for John McCain; today no way. If Obama was not 50% black would this even be a contest. I agree that he is not seasoned, but this may be his greatest attribute for a changed America. When I first heard about Senator Obama and how he was so charming and eloquent and I kept thinking that he had to be the Anti-Christ, but now I know different. He may have charisma, but so did President Clinton. Senator Obama is a racist and doesn't care what he says or who he says it about. He has backers such as the Kennedys (I won't even go there), a preacher that uses the Lord's name in vain while preaching (like it is no big deal), and a wife who wasn't proud to be an American until he ran for office(?????). He has charmed the press, but has he charmed the nation as a whole? I think not. The biased press needs to report the facts!

Sen. McCain may not have been my first choice for the Republican party, but I believe that he is a better choice than Sen. Obama.

I may have to actually write in a candidate this year........

This election is for the democrates to lose. I am a conservative and cannot be a part of supporting any candidate who believes that Roe Vs Wade should stand. However, McCain seems to be willing to do that which the Bush/Cheney type republicans wish. To say that those republicans represent true conservative values is nonsense. I could only support a Huckabee or better yet Ron Paul. The only thing I can say about Obama is that at least his campaign stands for unity and our children's future, that's a positive message. We are getting better with regards to race relations and equal treatment of fellow americans, but one bad apple (like KKK or Rev. Wright) to influence some people in negative ways. I think that Obama is going to win this election, but I also think that he will find it very hard to accomplish much. It's funny that Al Qaeda saw no difference between all those who died from Sept. 11, and yet we see our differences. If we don't unite, this nation's enemies will likely win.

1. The war was a grave mistake that is bankrupting our country by borrowing on a credit card owned by China.

2. The current trade situation has cost us all of our manufacturing jobs.

3. Oil prices are at an all-time high and his simpleton approach to give us .25 savings during the summer months.

4. Free market healthcare will give us another 4 years of 50 million people without health insurance and those of us who have it, really don't.

5. We need to NOW start doing something for the citizens of THIS country instead of more of the tax cuts for the rich.

Yes, We should have had a better choice of candidates, but there is no question that we cannot afford to continue down this road of destruction, while the middle class disappears.

We need a fresh look at the direction of our country and Obama will provide that.

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR OLD GOP POLITICS AT THE DOOR.

Obama is the BEST, hands down. He will beat McCain by miles next Fall. WIth all due respect to Mr. McCain, I salute him for his service to our country and his long and seasoned track record in politics.

But I strongly believe we need an intellectual who is also savvy (street smart) to run our country, who can show another side of America that not all our allies and foreign dignitaries really see. We need a strong leader who is gifted with great communications skills to help us not only articulate our desire for fundamental change, but who can use this skill to convince others around him to join the movement - and that includes his fellow politicians.

I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised, if they aren't already convinced, at how much an INTELLIGENT, DIGNIFIED person can actually do in DC. You'll see how things will change, how things will transform - and how we will pull ourselves out of Iraq and out of the energy and health care mess we're embroiled in. Even if he only achieves a percentage of what he hopes to do, it will be a blessing for us all.

Its sad and unfortunate how people feel about change in this country. Obama wants a positive change for America. So McCain served in the military, was a POW, etc. You can say Obama is a BSer and has no experience, but McCain is going to ride his "experience" all the way into the white house and do the same thing Bush has been doing to last 8 years. So much for change. Its true, at least with us in the US, that people fear change-even if it is for the best.

Someone help this man improve his skills - or get a better speech writer. Substantive speeches are ideal, but not if the delivery is so poor. Nobody will listen to what's being said - the delivery becomes almost a distraction.

The only difference is that he has no economic background, no military background and very little hands on experience.

If this Islamic oriented guy gets elected you will pay more taxes, you will see this country begin to bow down to Islamic terrorists, you will see unsafe borders, you will see free medical to people who don't even belong here (that you have to pay for!).

Oh and this is not even a political agenda here, I don't care foe McCain per se, but I would rather have a proven American steering the ship that some small time guy with no experience that went to Islamic school.

I think that Senator McCain could teach Senator Obama a lot about how to make bad judgments. Here is McCain before and shortly after the invasion of Iraq:

After all of the above gross misjudgments, McCain has the arrogance and gall to say: "We have not told the American people how touch and difficult this task would be… they were led to believe this could be some kind of day at the beach." [CNN, 8/22/2006]

Shortly before he was fired for making the statement Army Chief of Staff General Shinseki said that we would need several hundred thousand troop in Iraq. What is particularly important and prescient about his statement is his explanation of why:

"We're talking about post-hostilities control over a piece of geography that's fairly significant, with the kinds of ethnic tensions that could lead to other problems. And so it takes a significant ground- force presence."

In a public rebuke to Shinseki, Rumsfeld and his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, called Shinseki's estimate "far off the mark"[15] and "wildly off the mark". Wolfowitz said it would be "hard to believe" more troops would be required for post-war Iraq than to remove Saddam Hussein from power. [1] Specifically, Wolfowitz said to the House Budget Committee on February 27, 2003:

DEP. SEC. WOLFOWITZ: There has been a good deal of comment - some of it quite outlandish - about what our postwar requirements might be in Iraq. What about socialized medicine? How about back in 1974's when then Commander John McCain - fresh off his 5 ½ years as a POW in North Vietnam - was given his first command in Jacksonville, Florida?

McCain, according to Robert Timberg in his book, The Nightingale's Song, was transferred to Jacksonville as the executive officer of Replacement Air Group 174. A few months later, he assumed command of the RAG, which trained pilots and crews for carrier deployments. The assignment was controversial, some calling it favoritism, a sop to the famous son of a famous father and grandfather, since he had not first commanded a squadron, the usual career path."

While Executive Officer and later as Squadron Commander, the married McCain used his authority to arrange frequent flights that allowed him to carouse with subordinates and "engage in extra-marital affairs."

This was a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against adultery and fraternization with subordinates. But, as with all his other past behaviors, McCain was never penalized; instead he always got away with his transgressions Timberg wrote, "Off duty, usually on routine cross-country flights to Yuma and El Centro, John started carousing and running around with women. To make matters worse, some of the women with whom he was linked by rumor were subordinates . . . At the time the rumors were so widespread that, true or not, they became part of McCain's persona, impossible not to take note of."

In early 1977, Admiral Jim Holloway, Chief of Naval Operations had to deal with the embarrassment caused by McCain's behavior. So the Admiral transferred McCain from his command position "to Washington as the number-two man in the Navy's Senate liaison office. McCain was promptly given total control of the office. It wasn't long before the "fun loving and irreverent" McCain had turned the liaison office into a "late-afternoon gathering spot where senators and staffers, usually from the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, would drop in for a drink and the chance to unwind."

Ethics complaint over attacking a grieving woman

In 1984, as a Member of the House of Representatives, John McCain gave a speech in Congressman Duncan Hunter's San Diego district.

At the end of the speech a woman approached Representative McCain and introduced herself as the wife of a Marine pilot shot down and still missing in Southeast Asia. She asked Congressman McCain if he could help her find information on her husband's case.

Eyeing the attractive woman, the married McCain replied, Why don't you ride with us and have dinner?

Congressman Hunter and an aide sat in the front seat of the car; McCain and this woman in the back as they drove to Hunter's house. Not long into the short ride, McCain ran his hand up the woman's skirt. Stunned, she pushed him away and resisted his advances. He continued trying to grab her, even after she moved as far away from him as possible.

As this time, McCain's wife, Cindy, was pregnant.

Disgusted over his behavior she left as soon as they arrived at Duncan Hunter's place. She promptly told the two Vietnam veterans who had originally encouraged her to try to see McCain about her missing husband's case that night.

Years later a Senate Ethics Committee complaint was filed over this incident. In that complaint, the woman was quoted as saying that Congressman McCain used unreasonable force in a hostile manner. But the Senate Committee, then chaired by Mitch McConnell, claimed not to have jurisdiction over a matter that took place when McCain was in the House.

Dr. Jack Wheeler's claims:

Dr. Jack Wheeler, who The Wall Street Journal called "the originator of the Reagan Doctrine," recently posted several columns about McCain. In one of them - weeks before the New York Times ran the explosive revelations about Vicki Iseman and McCain - Dr. Wheeler wrote, McCain has been having affairs with three women, one of whom I know the name of.

In his latest piece, he wrote of how the Democrats will attack McCain systematically in the fall, bleeding him drip by drip: Then the identities of the women lobbyists with whom he has been cheating on his blonde rich wife will be known by early October.

Conclusion:

Senator McCain used his wife today to finesse the issue of his alleged philandering. He used her to deny that anything bad is going on. He wouldn't disappoint me or our children. Those words came from her - not from his mouth. He is being extra careful about denying his affairs.

His press conference in Toledo was similar to Gary Hart's back in 1987 when he dared the media to find any examples of his philandering. Not much later came the now-infamous picture of Hart and Donna Rice on the Monkey Business.

McCain has similarly thrown down the gauntlet and denied ever violating the public trust.

Well, we'll see now if the heretofore friendly-to-McCain media will try to prove him a liar.

Glittering generalities and pandering will be replaced by serious questions about leadership skills and experience, vision and the ability to back it up with performance. Presidential candidate John McCain's recently released Christmas ad depicting him as a tortured POW survivor underscores a reoccurring theme McCain's handlers have, for decades, carefully intertwined deep into his public persona and political campaigns.

McCain says because he survived 5½ years of brutal torture, while a prisoner of the communist Vietnamese, he is better qualified to be president of the United States than any other candidate. McCain claims his POW sufferings included three years in solitary confinement where he was tortured so badly that he "broke," causing him to attempt suicide.

What McCain's promoters have carefully edited out of their McCain-for-president equation is his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Department of Defense psychiatrists have evaluated McCain for PTSD several times, the results of which remain locked by privacy laws.

PTSD can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which physical harm occurred or was threatened. U.S. government studies have concluded that former POWs "may remain embroiled in a harsh psychological battle with themselves for decades after returning home."

An outcome of PTSD is a subtle web of personal problems including difficulty in controlling intense emotions such as anger and an inability to function well under stress.

Psychologist Patricia B. Sutker of the New Orleans Veterans Administration Medical Center and her colleagues reported in a 1991 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry that as many as nine of 10 surviving U.S. servicemen taken captive during the Korean War may suffer from PTSD and other mental disorders more than 35 years after their release.

Sorry, but I'm too poor/not rich enough to vote for Mccain. Obama's domestic policies are more advantageous to the working class, and his foreign policies are more rational and reasonable than refusing to listen to intelligence and being hasty to go to war that can possibly be averted. Pissing people off in other regions by going on the offensice and picking fights - would that make you, if it were your country that was invaded, more or less likely to commit terrorist acts against the invader? They need to stop; we all know about our soldiers' blood shed for OIL. the cover is blown. The cost of lives saved, and our economy, are more than worth seeking other avenues than hotdog tactics to ensure our safety and security.

I truly don't care whether Barack is white, black, or hispanic - I just don't trust him. I have been watching the election for the last year and I just become more and more concerned. He is just as much of a politician as anyone else running, and once again, if you go back through history, there were plenty of Presidents that marketed and presented themselves well on the podium, but when they were in office they failed. Just because someone questions Obama and may not vote for him does not make them a racist and to even suggest such is just plain naive and ignorant. 3. Claims to be a Baptist, which was news to his own staff who thought he was still an Episcopalian, but has not been baptised in the faith.

4. For over a year courted the endorsement of John Hagee, who called the Catholic Church, "the great whore" and said many offensive things about Jewish people.

5. Called Rod Parsley a spiritual mentor, a man who claims the United States is complicit in genocide of African-Americans

6. Has not been seen with a flag pin while on a national TV show in months.

7. Said the Bush tax cuts offended his conscience, but now embraces them.

8. Consorted with prostitutes while in the military.

9. Committed adultery in cheating on his first wife.

10. In front of three reporters and some of his campaign staff called his current wife a word that starts with "c" and rhymes with "punt".

11. His friend of 40+ years, Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, has said the idea of McCain near the red phone "scares him" due to his hot temper. McCain then threw him under the bus saying Cochran is not among the most serious of Senators.

McCain has no idea or inclination to change this economy because it requires changing some aspects of how things have ben done that he is not willing to consider, It requires moving money from the miilitary to American citizens. The dollar will slide further, oil grow ever more expensive, major companies like GM will shrink, higher education will grow more unaffordable for avergae folks, health will deteriorate due to care being unaffordable, and this country will sink further in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Anything longer than a sound bite is too much for him. His "right change" is really just a change further to the right. McCain cannot speak about change with conviction because he does not really want change. He stopped being a "maverick" after Bush beat him in 2000. Since then he has voted consistently for Bush proposals, and his advisors have long recordss ofvoting pro-Bush on all foreign policy matters too.

What can this guy do as far as "change"? He still needs to deal with the senate and congress. We give to much credit in this country to the position of president. They don't have the power to change anything, and Obama doesn't have the experience to navigate washington just yet.

1. McCain is not "proven" any more than Obama when it comes to running a country. Neither have done it. Old does not equal "proven". Pilot does not equal "proven". POW does not equal "proven" - especially when it was almost 40 years ago. Honoring a POW does not mean he is qualified to run the country.

2. Obama is not tied to Islamic faith. He is a Christian. By the way - many Jewish people are named Barak - are they Islamic? Hardly. Barak is a Semitic name. This comment only implies ignorance. I'm sure you are not, so why not focus on the truth?

3. Believing in something better and striving for it is not "the kool aid". Nothing gets better if leadership ti too cynnical to reach for something better.

4. Your examples do not cite American leaders who made a difference - Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy. Big changes were made, sacrifices made, and the country was vaulted ahead by their actions. The people you cite are examples only of extremists - Obama is not extreme.

5. Your Harvard and eloquence comments imply you have a problem with someone having an education.

6. Perhap you would prefer a President who is easily led and votes without doing his homework. McCain voted for this war even when all the reasons were baloney. Obama opposed it. Obama's judgement is much keener that McCain's. That is what I call a track record.

No, actually I thought it was a very well-written speech and contained some barbs that Obama should/could/will respond to.

Good leaders' messages should contain a stirring call to action. McCain lacks the ability to do that. If he had been president on December 7, 1941, we'd have never won WWII.

I've posted this comment here before and I'll say it again: McCain has CLEARLY lost a step mentally and physically since 2000. Whether or not you like his ideas, he's unqualified to be president for that reason alone. He's the second coming of Warren Harding, and any resonable person sees that.

Last night, as an avid Obama supporter, I heard one of the best speeches Hillary Clinton ever made. Period. I also heard a different swager in Obama's speech (especially when he responded to McCain). However, this is about the speech of McCain. Frankly, his speech could have been better in terms of delivery. Substance wise, I find it rather comical that McCain can accuse Obama of essentially being in bed with the special interests of Washington (which, by the way, Obama admits this as part of his funding source for his campaign) yet, at the same time, McCain is known to have fired lobbyists off of his team. And how can he say that Obama is wrong for wanting to talk to tyrants in order to find solutions when Condoleeza Rice recommends the same? It is this political method of "the pot calling the kettle black" that is what is wrong with McCain. While I used to like McCain (circa 2000), he has simply fallen off. It is time for his political brand to retire. That's my 2 cents.

I can’t wait for the day (if Obama becomes prez) that I can say I told you so when our country falls apart, or we get attacked again or whatever might happen. God forbid when it does, but if he is president, it will happen sooner or later. So many are blinded by what he is saying they can’t see Obama is just not good for this country on a political, moral, and leadership level.

A couple of items that are of concern to me are as follows:

1. I have read that Obama wants to raise taxes on any family that makes $90,000 or more and he wants to increase the capital gains tax - many couples make that or more.

2. Nationalized medicine - I am a cancer survivor and this really scares me. I have had the good fortune to have known and been friends with individuals who live in countires with socialized medicine and they come here for medical care.

3. Inflation accounts for at leas thalf of the price of oil today and we may be headed towards stagflation as was seen in the 70's. The US has tens of billion sof barrels of oil and natural gas of of our own coasts yet Congress has declared 85% of the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf off-limits to exploratin and drilling - what is Baracks plan to solve this crisis.?

I am, for the most part, dismayed by both parties. We all seem to forget that the trouble we've had is a result of actions (or lack there of) of both parties. The war has led to the elimination of a ruthless dictator and taken the people of Iraq a step closer to freedom. The war has also led to a debt of epic propotions, the loss of thousands of lives (American and Iraqi) and a less than preferable view of America in the global community (fortunately, most people recognize that the citizens of America are really good people despite the less admirable aspects of their government). To be honest, at one time, that John McCain, if he ran for president, would secure my vote. I felt that way because I saw a man that projected honesty and integrity. I've also considered Barack Obama, because he's young, has good ideas and speaks of sweeping change. In my opinion, America needs change more than ever. But, who would be a better catalyst for change? McCain or Obama. On one hand, you have a man with military experience - the kind we need to come up with a plan to get America out of war that has seemed to get more and more out of hand. Then, you have Obama, a man that speaks of healthcare for all citizens. They both have ideas regarding the economy but they're fairly unclear and probably for a good reason.

One thing I wish would change is the paradigm of citizens either not having any interest in the issues that affect us all the most and a lot less interest in issues that only serve to divide people on the basis of personal beleief. Regardless of religous belief and personal values, we all pay the price when OUR economy is in bad shape, when OUR loveones continue to make the ultimate sacrifice for a goverment thats seems to have no appreciation for their service and last, but far from least, a heathcare system that values its bottom line more than OUR health. I haven't decided on who to vote for, but I do know that I'm ready for a positive change in OUR great country.

The fact is, I have read and heard alot of propaganda on both candidates - and one email which I erroneously posted, but it is just one example of the stuff out there (a bad one at that) - and I am just trying to sort it all out. People may not always word things appropriately or to your liking, but the truth is, the press has continually made the point that highly educated individuals support Obama, my point was merely that there are plenty of highly educated individuals that don't support Obama.

I have listened to many a speech thorughout my life and I have not heard many that are as empty as Obama's. It is easy to speak about change...let's hear the plan!

I do agree we need change but let's get real. He does not have that plan or at least has not shared it with the public. Don't you think we deserve to know what that plan is? I have a son who is Captain the USMC....he has faught for our freedoms and is proud to have done that. I am scared of terrorits. Where ever they might come from. Our own citizens need every advantage but social programs only promote lack of desire. Obama tried to make some big concessions to Mrs. Clinton on some things by giving her a majority of delegates out of Michigan, but it all ended up one half vote for each delegate. So the Democrats are losing ground in terms of the value of votes that they consider important in their party.

RUSH: Harold Ickes. Let's start with Operation Chaos. Harold Ickes spoke on Saturday in Washington, the Democrat National Committee rules and bylaws committee hearing. This is a portion of Ickes' statement before the vote.

ICKES: I am stunned that we have the gall and the chutzpah to substitute our judgment for 600,000 voters. (cheers and applause) Was the process flawed? You bet your ass it was flawed. (applause) It's hard to find an election in the United States that isn't flawed. (applause) Did a lot of people not vote? You bet your ass a lot of people didn't vote. Look at the voting stats. This country has one of the lowest participation rates in -- of democracies around the world. That is not an excuse. I've never heard that advanced as an excuse to overturn elections, to substitute the judgment for the voters. Hell, we wouldn't have -- I don't think one election would stand the test that has been laid down here.

RUSH: And the next statement, the next sound bite really has the Democrats a little worried.

ICKES: Not only will this motion hijack four delegates from Mrs. Clinton, it will take 55 delegates from uncommitted status -- which is a recognized presidential status under our constitution -- and convert them to Barack Obama. There's been a lot of talk about party unity. "Let's all come together, wrap our arms around each other." I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, that hijacking four delegates -- notwithstanding the flawed aspect of this -- is not a good way to start down the path of party unity. One final word. We are... Mrs. Clinton has instructed me to reserve her rights to take this to the credentials committee. (wild cheers and applause)

RUSH: Yay! The applause went on. They went nuts over that. This is Mrs. Clinton threatening the Democrat Party with continued operations throughout the meeting of the credentials committee, which is at the convention. This is is the last thing they wanted to hear. They really thought that they could buy the Clintons off here by giving her some delegates and making sure that the Florida and Michigan delegations were seated. But you heard Ickes. This was veiled threats to contest the entire process, and he confirmed the things that I have been telling you about this process. It's the greatest disenfranchisement since the passage of the voting right acts in 1964-'65. This is the Democrat Party seeing to it that every vote doesn't count in order to get Obama nominated. Look, I know I say this a lot. I'm probably getting blue in the face saying it. But there's not a big, happy, euphoric feeling with Obama, folks. In the deep, dark crevices of the Democrat Party and even in the deep, dark crevices of the small minds of the superdelegates -- who, by the way, are not pledged until they vote. They can change their endorsements publicly 50,000 times. Until they actually vote, whatever they say really doesn't matter.

This, the Clintons know. What the Democrats know is that Obama cannot get votes that traditional Democrat victors running for the presidency need. They know that he has got baggage upon baggage upon baggage, that he's got unsavory characters that are his close friends and associates. They also know that he's not the Clintons, and they want the Clintons gone. I am more convinced than ever that they have had it with the Clintons; they're fed up. This I think is the primary reason for Vanity Fair's big piece. I printed this thing out. It's 15 pages. It is a huge story detailing everything we know about Bill Clinton and his nefarious, philandering, unsavory ways. But these guys act like it's just recently been discovered and the reason they have to write it now is because, well, up until the campaign, Clinton was able to keep it in check; and he had the right kind of advisors around him to keep the bad people away from him. But something's changed in Bill Clinton, which is the theme of the story. Something's changed. It might have been his heart surgery. You know, people get depressed after bypass surgery. It can't be explained. They just do.

They become more in touch with their mortality, and so they want to live as much as they can as soon as they can 'cause they never know when the last moment of breath might be. But something's changed. He's playing the race card. He has a gotten mean. He's undisciplined. So the point of the story is: Look, when Clinton was doing everything we knew he was doing, at least he was creaming Republicans at the same time and at least he was embarrassing the Newt Gingriches of the world, at least he was making us proud to be Democrats, but now, it's a different era. Bill Clinton doesn't know how to campaign in the era of YouTube and MySpace, nor does Hillary. He hasn't the slightest idea how to deal with the fact that what he says can be on the Internet within seconds if anybody has a video recorder that's watching him. So he still thinks he can get away with all these lies. (doing a Clinton impression) "I didn't say that. Who told you I said that? That's a total fabrication of what I said." But then they've got the video because somebody saw it. Clinton's not used to this. All of these phony excuses, they want 'em gone. But they're nervous as they can be about Obama.

So here's Ickes, throwing out this threat. Oh, he said, by the way, "Mrs. Clinton's instructed me to reserve her rights to take this to the credentials committee." Now, "ABC News' Teddy Davis and Karen Travers Report: The Obama campaign is not worried about the tempest that erupted at a Washington, DC, hotel on Saturday when top Clinton adviser Harold Ickes threatened to take the fight over Michigan's delegates all the way to the convention. 'He said "reserve the right," not that he was going to do it,' said Obama adviser Anita Dunn. 'They have to get through the next three days. I've been there before,'" meaning they have to get through Puerto Rico and then Montana and South Dakota on Tuesday. "Now that the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee has decided what to do with the Florida and Michigan delegations, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is 68 delegates away from clinching the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, according to the ABC News delegate estimate. Obama's campaign expects to win around 38 delegates in the final three contests of Puerto Rico, South Dakota, and Montana. If he hits that mark, it would leave him 30 superdelegates away from his party's nod. The Obama campaign [says], 'He's not going to wait by the phone like a high-school girl waiting for a date,' said Dunn. 'That's not Barack Obama.'" He's not going to sit around waiting for the phone to ring for Hillary to call and concede; he's just going to go on about his business. We have a poster child for Operation Chaos. This is exactly what we had in mind when Operation Chaos began. Saturday in Washington, after the meeting of the Democrat National Committee Rules and Bylaws Committee, supporter Harriet Christian spoke to reporters. An unidentified reporter said, "Hey, where are you from?"

CHRISTIAN: New York City. Hillary's state! The best nominee that's possible! And the Democrats are closing the election away. For what? An inadequate black male who would not have been running had it not been a white woman that was running for president. And I'm not going to shut my mouth anymore. I can be called white but you can't be called black. That's not my America! It's inequality for all of us, and it's about time we all stood up for it. I'm no second-class citizen. God (bleep) the Democrats.

RUSH: Okay, so we've gone from Obama's church to "God bleep America" to a Hillary supporter saying "God bleep the Democrats." (laughter) Operation Chaos. And this woman, she's exactly right. The Clintons and their supporters are sitting out there, these women, and they cannot believe that the Democrat Party is throwing Hillary overboard for this young, inexperienced black guy. I came here for the vote of every American, and our Democratic Party threw us down the tubes. I was a second-class citizen before; now I'm nothing. Why? CALLER: Well, thanks, Rush. I can't believe I'm calling for the first time, but I'm definitely one of those disenfranchised Michigan voters. I think Hillary got ripped off, and I'd like to say, too, I've been voting since I've been 18 years old. I haven't missed an election. I'm 52 and this is definitely, if Obama goes in, definitely a time either I don't vote or I will vote for McCain.

RUSH: Now, it's easy to say that, Lee, here at the first of June. There's going to be a lot of emotion that you're going to experience between now and the election. You're going to have a raucous convention, and you're going to have Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday, August 28th, which will be the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. You've gotta allow for the possibility you're going to up all revved up for the Democrat Party once they get through with their convention.

CALLER: No, I'm really firm in my belief. I'm with you on everything about him belonging to that church he doesn't even denounce. He's doing it for the reverend not because he does not believe in that. And, besides, I honestly believe he'll be like another Jimmy Carter. I think, you know, he thinks he can go in there and change things but I don't think he'll be able to. I also don't think he's experienced. I resent the fact that he got, you know, voted as a senator and spent most of his time campaigning, and unless he does have a speech in front of him, he's not very good.

RUSH: I am sitting here stunned. I am practically speechless, although that's never really been accomplished.

CALLER: Oh, honestly, if you knew me at --

RUSH: You are a Democrat. You're a Democrat; you're a woman; you want Hillary to be nominated, correct?

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: You are saying, you are echoing me on the observations and criticisms of Obama.

CALLER: I can't believe it.

RUSH: I thought people in the Democrat Party, particularly women, hated my guts?

CALLER: I listen to you all the time, but I will tell you that people at work would call me very liberal, and I am, but I'm very disappointed with the party, I can tell you that.

RUSH: How much of your disappointment, Lee, is rooted in Mrs. Clinton being a woman? This is probably the last chance in many women's lifetimes that they'll get this close to a female president, how much of this is discrimination you feel by the male leaders of the Democrat Party aimed at Hillary and by association, you?

CALLER: You know, it's kind of mixed because they're always bringing up the fact of, you know, Obama being black but nobody's ever brought up the fact that Hillary is a minority in the political arena. It's really not that she's a woman, but I think for me it's experience. Unfortunately, you have to know how to deal with the Washington crowd, and Obama is going to hit a stone wall just like Jimmy Carter.

RUSH: Can I tell you the truth about this though, Lee? All this is sort of hyperbole, because the fact of the matter is, the Democrat Party knows full well Obama is not experienced. The Democrats in Congress and the Senate know that they'll control the guy; they'll run the guy, legislatively. I think he will turn this country to the left as badly or worse than Jimmy Carter did. He'll be just as incompetent. I've even referred to his administration if he gets elected as Jimmy Carter second term. But the thing that strikes me is that here all of this time has been the presumption that Mrs. Clinton was owed this because she's been a loyal soldier in the Democrat Party. She kept your party together. She kept her husband in the White House with her loyalty. You know, she may have bungled some things strategically along the way, but she clearly felt that this was her time, she was owed this and a lot of women thought that was the case, too, and now you say they call him a black guy. He is a black guy, and he's an inexperienced black guy, he's a rookie, and he's --

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: -- being portrayed as a messiah, and guess who's being discarded as though you were no longer worth anything more than a dishrag? You and Hillary and her female supporters.

CALLER: Absolutely. Absolutely. For me, too, it has to do with experience, and I get upset when every time they want to talk about Hillary, actually they bring Bill into it. I mean why don't they just deal with Hillary, not Bill?

RUSH: Well, have you heard about this Vanity Fair piece that's coming out in the magazine by Todd Purdum?

CALLER: No.

RUSH: I just discussed it on the program. It's nothing new. They expose virtually every philandering rumor and fact, all of the nefarious, questionable people he runs around with. Nothing new; we've all heard of it before. But now it's in the Drive-By Media, Lee. Now it's in the big, liberal publication. I think you Clinton supporters, if you're mad now your anger is going to only amplify when you find out what this really is about. This is about getting rid of Clintons for your party. They know Obama's weaknesses. I'm going to tell you something else. I mean this from the bottom of my heart and I say it to you as a loyal listener to this program even though you are a liberal Democrat, I'm going to tell you, you talk about Obama's experience, they all know that, they all know he's got none, they all know he's not a unifier, they all know he's not a messiah. There is one reason Barack Obama is your party's nominee. Not 'cause he's black. That might have helped him pull this off, but it's not because he's black. Nothing was said about Obama hating the Republicans, you misread. I said the people who are in his camp at this site are haters. More venomous than the right ones, both have been bad as of late, but the amount of name calling, and insulting language from the Democ rats has been pretty overwhelming. That is what I'm saying.

In addition a few facts about the 37 million without health care

1) The 37 million is about 11.22 percent and lower than I was told which was about 15% and Hillary clinton said nearly 50 million which is closer to that mark

2) half choose not to have it because it saves them more money, they are healthy and pay as the go

3)anyone can go into an emergency room with the snifles and cannot be turned away. If they cannot pay for it the hospital has to eat it. So there is coverage for them even if I don't totally agree with it.

4) Medicade covers peple who can't afford regular health care in most cases.

5) A few friends of mine, one who was a Canadian, and the other was living in Australia, both were in socialized medicine countries, said that it was horrible if you had a serious problem, only works for general problems and takes forever to be seen, my wife works with someone from the former Soviet Union and siad unless you paid doctors on the side you couldn't guarentee you'd be taken care of.

6)this is why I'm not in favor of universal health care.

On the War the funding is about 1% of our overall GNP the funding may be a waste of money to people who don't agree with it but will hardly bankrupt us. The money that is being inflated is the what the military costs us to keep anyway, that is being added in addition to the War costs to sway opinions. Unless you can give me some proof of this I'll agree to disagree.

My friends have children serving in Iraq, college educated also (imagine that) and the pay offs you talk about, nice try. they speak with the Sunnis, and their just sick and tired of being victims and are now taking an active role. Believe what you want, we all do to some point.

I have major concerns in what I view as the naivete of the American voters. (Even more so after reading some of the blogs on this site!) Comments about "charisma", or lack of it, etc. should not decide our next President. I fear that a person could be voted into office based on such superficial surface trappings. I was an avid Sen. McCain supporter 10 years ago when he was younger and potentially more up to the task. But even if you choose to ignore the Rev. Wright issue, the fact that Sen. Obama could belong to a church for over 20 years and not realize the racism that appears to be rampant among not just Rev. Wright but now a guest priest speaker tells me that the racist message must be popular with that particular congregation. (Even Oprah chose not to become a member of that same church many years ago because of what she saw there and knew it would not be good for her public image!) The fact that (as per excerpts from Sen. Obama's book) his mother lived abroad because she didn't like America and chose to marry non-Americans as a result is an issue for me. (Her first husband was from Kenya and her second from Indonesia.) Again from his book, I understand that his stepfather worked in his country's diplomatic corps and there was a heated exchange because Sen. Obama's mother refused to attend a diplomatic dinner event with American representatives that he was expected to attend. He told her, "They are your people" (meaning Americans), and her response was, "They are not MY people". I believe Sen. Obama's tendency to choose a wife (and life partner) who has stated she did not like (or respect, whichever) America "until recently" (when she felt the country started showing respect for her husband as a viable Presidential candidate) says something about his inner feelings about this country. Surrounded by women in his life that didn't like our country, being a long time member of a church (until it became politically inconvenient) that apparently is plagued with racism against white Americans indicates to me that I can't fully trust that Sen. Obama is being genuine when he tells the American people he is a uniter and can represent all of the people. I believe you should love this country (with all its' goodness and its' faults) before you're entitled to that privilege. I feel to the very depths of my soul that Sen. Obama is a racist and whether white, black, hispanic, etc. there is no room for racism in the President of the United States of America! I would love to see a minority (or female) candidate (of moderate persuasion in whichever party) run for and win the office. My issue is not that he is black, though ignorant people have turned it into race because of the color of his skin (either for him or against him), but that he has been affiliated too closely with black racists. A moderate of either party is the only way to truly be a "uniter" - who can represent the best course of action based on neither the conservative nor the liberal side of the aisle. Someone who can easily go to the right on issues as needed, or can go to the left on appropriate issues and find supporters on either side because he or she would not be 'married' to either side. This is a person who could represent us best based on principles and what is going to be in the best interest of all Americans because there are great ideals on both sides of the political spectrum. My regret is that in my personal opinion, we have not had a good candidate from any party run (or serve) since Ronald Reagan. He was not always the smartest person, but he surrounded himself with experts, he listened to them - then HE made the decision. He also had integrity and earned our respect as President. I had high hopes for President George W. Bush because of his reputation in Texas as a "uniter". But I believe he surrounded himself with the wrong people and became entirely too partisan. President Bill Clinton was extremely smart, but his poor morals brought a new low to the office and tarnished our reputation abroad. President Bush is a highly moral man, but I believe he is misguided. He is a man of high integrity, but is a poor speaker. I travel internationally and can tell you we have some serious work to do on our international relationships. I don't know that either Obama or McCain are sufficiently up to that task. You can't cave in to despots, but you can't constantly threaten them and think they'll keep listening to you either. President Clinton had the brains, but I don't believe 9-11 would have occurred had he been more alert to worldwide threats during his own presidency. President Bush was not even in office eight months when 9-11 hit and that cannot be considered sufficient time by any sane person to grasp all of the details and entricacies with everything happening in the US government and around the world with all of the new Secretaries and Directors not even being approved and serving in their respective positions for much of that 7+ months because of the Senate confirmation process that is required when every new Administration takes office. Whoever is elected in the November election will face that same challenge in his first year of office.

I definitely need to hear a lot more substantive data from both of them as they develop their platform on how they would serve if elected. People need to get off their Obama and McCain blind faith wagons and truly open their ears and listen to what is said from here on. Don't vote just to get "change" because whoever wins, change will automatically occur. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing. Some things only need a fine tuning to fix them rather than a major overhaul. Because with any change, there is bad along with the good as that is how change always happens. Get beyond the Democrat or the Republican labels, and get beyond the issue of only Iraq (whichever your position on that topic). There are MANY issues that we need to hear about and to test both candidates before making an informed choice. I say "test" because I want to know if their comments on each issue are consistent in every debate or speech or if there are inconsistencies in what they are saying on any one issue. If they are inconsistent on a topic in different speeches or debates, you can't be certain if they're lying or just saying what they think those present want to hear. Inconsistent messages are a bad indication to expect flip-flopping on that issue. Listen to both candidates, America! Don't put your fingers in your ears and dismiss what either candidate has to say just because he is not of your preferred political party, or race, or age! And stop listening to slogans - listen to the message and content from both candidates. Both candidates have earned sufficient respect so far in the process and deserve to be heard as they campaign NOW for the Presidency and not just for their respective party's nomination.

I am so tired of the newsmedia's derogatory remarks....I vote we get some new newsmedia that will do honest unbiased reporting ,,,,not interjecting their own favoritism into what is said..I am tired of hearing "I think", and "this is what I see" and listening to the frequent misquotes, and sentences taken out of context....I would appreciate newsmedia not bringing out soap-opera issues which don't amount to anything other than they are used to stir up controversy....so the newsmedia can get their tv "fame" time. Eloquence is not what I admire in a leader....I can read between the lines. I would much rather hear a candidate voice in his own words, with his own sincerity what his beliefs and plans are, than hear a bunch of rhetoric some campaign writer thinks people want to hear.....I can already see it coming.....McCain is their target now that they don't have Hillary to pick apart. I wish the candidates would just write a lengthy summary of their political records, political views, stance and projections....put it on the internet.....let me download it and read it...and I will make up my own mind as to who I think will be the best leader for our country. And I really hate the labels they put on all the voters...white collar, blue collar, old baby boomers, blacks, whites...feminists, undereducated, overeducated.... elite , middle class, and poor trash. Just the facts:

During the 1980's, our CIA under republican president Ronald Reagan armed, funded and trained a group of muslims known by our government as "freedom fighters" to help Afghanistan in their war with the Soviet Union. These "freedom fighters" were the pre-cursor to Al Qaida, the Taliban and what our government now calls insurgents in Iraq.

During the 1980's the Pentagon, under republican president Ronald Reagan sold chemical weapons to ruthless dictator Saddam Hussein who then used them not only on Iranians but also on his own people. Also during this time Reagan allowed the Iran/Contra scandal to happen as rightwing hero Ollie North was up to his neck in this scandal and treachery.

During the 1950's, Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq announced that he was going to nationalize his countries oil much to the dismay of British Petroleum. Great Britain sent governmental people to DC to whine about this and wanted President Truman to back a military attack on Iran. Truman refused.

Later republican Dwight Eisenhower became the new US president and the same Great Britain agents came to him with false reports that Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq was going to turn his country into a communist country which of course was a great tool of fear in those days. And bingo it worked.

Eisenhower sent Kermit Roosevelt, head of the new CIA and grandson to Theodore Roosevelt to infiltrate Iran. While there Roosevelt bribed some of the Iranian news media to print that Mosaddeq was a communist, he then hired some Iranian thugs to go around and beat up other Iranians and hold protests supporting communism (making sure the international press told the story to the world) Roosevelt then hired another group of Iranian thugs to pick fights with the other group and to start chaos all over the cities of Iran, where as it would appear that Mosaddeq had lost all contol of his country. Why?

So that the US could remove Mosaddeq and install their own ruthless dictator the Shah, who of course allowed British Petroleum to keep stealing the oil from Iran and making huge profits at the expense of the Iranian civilians who lived as peasants. This of course led to the deep hatred Iranians now feel towards America where as once they loved America.

The moral to this story. Republican presidents have proven time after time that they do not learn from history and end up creating future enemies to our country while getting our country to unconstitutionally get involved in other countries battles.

@ Independent Voter: I don't hate republicans, but I despise them for all of their hateful rhetoric over the past seven years. Republican supporters believe every lie they hear on Fox or on the radio. It pisses me off that these people no longer think with their brains and allow others to think for them.

I like you am tired of both parties and believe both have sold our country out a long time ago. But with that said, our country cannot survive four more years of war, our economy and infrastructure cannot sustain the cost of the war.

What pisses me off even more are rightwing media and supporters claiming to be so outraged because someone doesn't wear a flag lapel pin. Yet they do not show any rage when our soldiers are sent to die for a war based on lies, they don't show outrage when our soldiers are sent to war with inadequate equipment and armor, they don't show any outrage when our injured and maimed soldiers return home and are treated like animals at VA hosptals. WHERE WAS THEIR RAGE THEN?

Republican supporters seem as if they honor and support Bush and his war more then they honor and support our soldiers. I'm just fed up with this false patriotism that permeats from the right as they drape themselves up in the American flag and think they are more patriotic because they support a madman or because they have a yellow ribbon magnet made in China on their SUV's.

It's not a question of better or worse, it's a question of what.

The US has roughly 5-7 million people who are of Islamic faith, while the population hovers around 300 million.

I am ok with Muslim people, I am not ok with the leader of our country being a Muslim, given the fact that most of them hate our guts (the US) and would rather see us dead than alive, not to mention that their leaders preach hate towards our country.

Now you can argue that Obama is not longer Muslim and he does not share those views, but are you willing to risk that his Muslim ideals leach into his presidency and this policies.

The answer is 80% of America would say hell no.

Obama wants to raise taxes.

Ask yourself a simple question.

Since it has been repeatedly proven that cutting taxes stimulates the economy..

does it make sense to RAISE taxes when we are threatened with a recession??

Obama also says he wants to increase..perhaps double... capital gains taxes...and says it's to make the rich pay their "fair share'... whatever that is.

I guess he doesn't know that according to IRS figures, the top 1% of income earners already pay about 39% of federal taxes and the top 50% already p[ay about 97% of total federal taxes!!

Kind of makes you wonder what people like Obama mean when they say "fair"..doesn't it??

Another question.

Is Obama aware that about 100 million Americans are invested in the stock marker..and would be penalized by his capital gains tax increases??

I'm sending this in a couple of replies to see if I can get these trough.

The weak dollar, part perception, part taxes, part being dependent on energy, part our import mistakes.

First issue perception is reality, speculation is driving part of this problem that we've created.

To improve the dollar we have to increase manufacturing and to do that we need to reduce company taxation. I'm being taxed at the so called rich level because my small company gets tied in to personal income even if I don't get much of it. The second part of this is what people call corporation greed. If they opened up their eyes companies with 8 employees are corporations to protect themselves. Limiting liability on law suits, so it doesn't take their home, and eveything their family has. So the raise the tax on corporations, and the rich hit me twice every year.

The other side of the coin is that the mass exodus of companies manufacturing happened in the 1990's the height was 1996 although it continued into this decade too.

Last year on the senate floor a technology company told them that the reason they left was taxes. That the combination of taxes and labor pushed them to move elsewhere. That if taxes were lowered they'd gladly move back and pay higher labor because the work quantity and quality was always better in the US, it paid for itself. So if we're really serious about the weak dollar get companies that make something back in the US.

The other part is start taxing imports more, we give other countries a nearly free ride and hurt our own.

Next.......

1)Most coal plants operate at 98% efficiency meaning 2% carbon emissions on energy production, really low, and 1/'2 of US electricity is produced by coal currently, and we have a vast abundance of it presently

2)Africa has produced a vehicle that uses liquid coal, why not the US?

3) Enviornmental lawyers have tied up drilling and new refinaries since 1978 and the amount of refinaries has actually dropped since then

4)Oil can be drilled now efficientlly and without harming the enviornment, gloabally there's less than 5% contamination to total area drilled. Meaning of the 100% of space used by these companies to drill only 5% ends up with any contamination, and that can be cleaned up after the fact.

5) this applies to land drilling and off shore drilling

6)In Alaska, the area being proposed has bugs and bogs, it's a scam that it's precious area, I have a few friends who live in Alaska and they've told me nothing's there.

7)Nuclear energy has a 97% efficiency rate now compared to 70% 25 years ago. The amount of waste now is minimal, and of all the waste plutonium globally would add up to 3 football fields at a 2 foot height. In other words not much at this point and the amount is reducing as the efficiency is increased.

8) Most european countries use Nuclear power for every day energy like electricity, if we're trying to be more like them then what's the problem?

Got the first part - Thanks. I can't believe I am actually getting a response to one of my questions. I do understand why company's have to register as a corporation and not a LLC, and that corporations are double taxed. The sad thing is, small businesses make up for over 50% (I can't remember exact number) of the businesses in the U.S. and are responsible for employing millions of people in U.S.

The fact it's our own hangups that the dollar has dropped and the energy isn't here.

We are to blame for our own undoing, 30 years ago we were told we were heading into the next Ice Age, Now it's global warming, please someone make up thier minds. The facts is most is driven due to politics and personal gain ala Al Gore (on the board of Carbon offset company)

40 years ago there were only 5,000 polar bears, now we have over 25,000 but were driving them to extinction, please.........

We also have a couple of things most countries do not, an abundance of water, fertile land, and the ability to grow a lot of food. I don't care how much oil you have you need to eat to live, so we still hold a lot of weight regardless. And a lot of the scare tactics are just that, tactics. We have the technology, natural resources, but it'll take some time to recover. So don't fret we can get out of this regardless of what the people are currently screaming about.

To finalize your answer, we have a tough 10 years ahead of us. But if we knuckle down, quit living for immediate gratification, and start producing (which we have plenty of resources to do so) We can be up at the top again.

OMG - actual rational comments on nuclear energy - read a recent article in Forbes on this. Also, have friends that are engineers and have worked in the nuclear industry for years, and they have dispelled alot of myths for me - mostly press scaring people and hype - we have come along way.

Yes ..Bush's tax cuts DID help the economy.

Those cuts got us out the recession that Bush inherited from Clinton.

Even President John Kennedy knew that tax cuts spur the economy. That's why he used such cuts in the early 60's.

Guess you haven't heard about the recent tax rebate either.

Those rebates were given for the same reason...to spur the economy.

Whenever people have more money after taxes..for spending and investment..the economy benefits.

Guess you are one of those people who thinks the government knows better how to spend your money than you do.

I agree with the self-perpetuating analysis. It is funny you should say that because, once again referring to an article in Forbes, in the 1970's Johnny Carson joked on late-night TV that there was an impending shortage in toilet paper and tne next morning millions of people went out and cleared stores shelves, which then caused a toilet paper shortage. Yes, we have a tough 10 years ahead of us because as you know, it will take time to build refineries and nuclear power plants. What is surprising to me is that people are blaming everything on Bush and his presidency, but we have been worried about oil for years. The issues we are facing today have been seen before in the U.S. Unfortunately, people always have to lay blame and they blame the republicans. That being said, we would still be having the energy crisis, real estate debacle, and economic issues if the democratics had held office and the republicans would be blaming them - these are economic issues that can't be blamed on one party or the other.

I am not sure if the first part came through or not - bascially I agree with you on the self-perpetuating theory. I do think the Federal Reserve and the Administration need to come together and try to shore up the dollar, but I don't think lowering interest rates again is the answer. I also don't think raising taxes and taking more money from the American public is the answer, and that is just what Barack is proposing. Barack is planning on taxing any family that makes $90,000 or more - he classifies them as the rich - and the fact is, many working couples make that or more. My criteria for a President is not whether they are female, black or white, I will vote based on the issues and the issues only, I haven't heard many solutions from Barack...just rhetoric.

All I can say is the U.S. will get through this as we have in the past.

l. Senator Obama is supposed to be some kind of a genius. If this is true, I must know why he attended Occidental College for the first two years of his undergraduate schooling. Why did he then transfer to a much better school in New York-COLUMBIA?

Did Affirmative Action play any part in his admission to Columbia?

After several years( strange that he did not go on directly to Law School, he applied and was accepted to Harvard Law. A top law school. What were his grades like at Columbia. In order for him to be accepted to Harvard Law School at the time, he needed an almost straight A average from Occidental and Columbia and a very very high LSAT score. Does anyone know if he did indeed have an almost straight A average and a very very high LSAT score or was he accepted at Harvard like most African-Americans--AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!!

If he was accepted because of Affirmative Action in his collge and law school, then, even though I do agree with some of the positions he has taken, I must regretfully withhold my vote.

Affirmative Action fakes are all over the place. Anyone who knows anything about law Schools and Medical Schools knows that in the better schools, African-Americans are usually in the lower quartile of the classes.

The speech wasn't so good on substance either, which was the most depressing thing about it to me as someone who fears someone as Liberal as Obama getting elected.

McCain literally called out Obama for being against Free Trade, even though Travis Childers just PROVED that even the Republican Base isn't hot for Free Trade. Just think about it. If the Republican Base, which is fed a steady diet of Pro-Free Trade Propaganda from the Wall Street Republicans, just helped elect a Democrat who RAILED against Free Trade, imagine how the White Working Class Voters in the Rust Belt who are told by their leaders that Free Trade is bad must feel about it.

Hillary got how the White Working Class (especially in Ohio, Penn, etc.) feels about Free Trade. McCain doesn't, and if he loses to Obama it will be primarily due to that fatal flaw.

I also was deeply troubled by how McCain talked about keeping Americans safe by beefing up Intelligence and the Military while saying NOT A WORD about keeping Americans safe from Al Qaeda by securing the Border and enforcing the Immigration Laws.

What McCain doesn't get is that if I was a foreigner who wanted to kill Americans, the Military (which is mostly in Iraq protecting the precious Iraqis) wouldn't present an obstacle of any kind to my violent desires unless and until they are put on the border.

And as for the CIA, unless you make this Country a Police State where everyone is under constant surveillance, they wouldn't be able to stop me either if I had a reasonable level of brain power at my command.

It appears all too clear that McCain cares more about his Wall Street backers getting a constant supply of free labor than he does about protecting the American people.

I only hope Obama comes out in favor of Border Security so the American People will have a chance to vote for someone who'd actually protect them.

The "conservatives" on this message-board obviously aren't "independent" of the conservative-talk-host-hosts who demand that you throw your country under the bus, just because McCain packed the gear to get the GOP-nomination -- whereas the "Reagan conservative" also-rans simply don't know how to WIN ELECTIONS!

(BTW, Reagan didn't win landslide victories because of his "conservatism", because nobody cares that much about blowhard ideology...Reagan won landslides for the same reason that Schwarzenegger does -- THEY'RE MOVIE STARS!!! I never said we have open borders, as after the Conservatives beat back McCain and Bush's push for Amnesty for the Illegal Immigrants, we finally started getting enough border enforcement from Bush that the word "open" doesn't quite apply.

Nonetheless, you and I both know that we aren't yet at a point where the Drug Gangs and Terrorist Groups are anywhere near shut out from infiltrating this Country.

Open Borders and lax Immigration Law Enforcement did allow 9/11 to happen, and the lack of an attack on U.S. soil doesn't contradict this. The lack of another attack is due to the fact that high quality terrorists have thus far refrained, for whatever reason, from launching an attack on US Soil.

This doesn't mean that there's anything to stop them from attacking when they choose to..

Why haven't high quality terrorists tried to launch an attack on US Soil since 9/11? My best guess is very simple: Bin Laden has thus far, for strategic reasons, held back from launching the second attack on US soil.

You have to understand that from George W. Bush taking the presidency to 9/11, the National Debt increased by about $250 Million a Day, but since 9/11 it has been increasing by $1.74 BILLION per a day.

That’s almost 7 times faster a rate of debt accumulation since 9/11!

In holding back the next day of reckoning, Osama bin Laden is probably thinking like Napoleon when said to his Field Generals: "Never interrupt the enemy when he is in the process of committing suicide."

I would’ve been strongly against that unfortunate error of Reagan’s if I was old enough at the time to be paying attention to politics.

You have to understand, though, that the number of Illegal Immigrants that got Amnesty under the bill Reagan signed was very small compared to the number of Illegal Immigrants that McCain wanted to give Amnesty to with his McCain-Kennedy bill.

And as for McCain voting against the bill, from everything I’ve read McCain was, back then, under the wing of Goldwater and taking directions from that great conservative.

Since then (especially after ’99) he has changed in a horrific fashion, even giving up his previous commitment to a balanced budget just to kiss up to Wall Street tools like Phil Gramm (now, according to a recent Meet the Press interview, a balanced budget is just something he wishes he could achieve; like World Peace and capturing a live Unicorn).

And the speech McCain just gave in Louisiana was the proof to me that he’ll traitor the Republican Base (+ the Working Class) every chance he gets.

It is certainly possible, but I don’t know he will and neither do you.

All I said was I hope Obama makes a commitment to Border Security so people who believe strongly that the border should be made more secure will actually have someone with a chance of winning they can vote for.

Both Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee won plenty of primaries, and the reason they came up short is that too many elitist rich people boycotted giving Huckabee money, and that they both faced the serious problem of the conservative vote being split between two strong candidates whereas the moderate vote all went to McCain due to the other moderate (Rudy) being such a pathetic vote getter that he even got his butt handed to him by Ron Paul in multiple important states.

Also, since McCain was the least conservative of the Republicans this year (especially on the issue of Immigration), of course the Media gave him freakishly positive coverage and rained newspaper endorsements upon his head.

“AND REAGANISTAS WILL GET WHAT THEY DESERVE -- BUT REAL AMERICANS WON'T DESERVE WHAT CONSERVATIVES ARE TRYING TO DO TO OUR NATION -- WE WILL NEVER GET AMERICA BACK, AND THE BLOOD WILL BE ON YOUR HANDS!”

I would submit to you that “Real Americans” under the Bush administration already have lost this Country to Wall Street lobbyists and those types of people.

Therefore they can’t lose America, because they don’t have it in the first place.

Under Obama, things could get even worse, but that is likely to be extremely healthy from the standpoint of teaching Americans that just as Wall Street Republicans lead to failure, Liberal Democrats lead to failure as well.

Which will leave them no choice but to finally start thinking outside the elitist box the media has trapped them in for far too long.

Regardless of how anemic and incredibly boring this speech is, I am amazed at how McCain actually talks about Washington and the government as if he wasn't there for the last...what? 100 years? It's like the CEO of ExxonMobile telling us he understands the struggles Americans have with high gas prices. Was he peeking in the window while the economy tanked? When the last figures of casualties in the Iraq war were being brought to the floor of the Senate? I think we have witness the first of many disillusions of John McCain.

I understand Obama made quite an impression at AIPAC (American Israeli PAC) as well. Commanding presence, grasp of the facts, tough but reasonable. The comparison we saw between McCain and Obama on Tuesday night is pretty accurate. Neither are perfect but here are a few quick thoughts about the race this fall:

Obama is the embodiment of the American Dream--born to a single mom, mixed race, goes to the best schools on scholarship, graduates from Harvard Law, ultimately becomes president of the USA. This should give hope to all kinds of Americans.

An Obama victory would validate our most cherished American values to the rest of the world, that we are the land of opportunity and that ability matters more than skin color and class.

Being a president of color gives Obama a unique opportunity to make progress in foreign affairs in a largely non-white world. He can restore our standing in the world almost instantly, just for who he is.

Whoever becomes the president faces an unparalleled mess. $10 trillion is a lot of debt, even for the US, and half of that was amassed under GWB. The next president will have limited options and limited power to fix what needs fixing. They will need our prayers and support. They will need to be remarkably good. I think Obama is the leader for this moment in history.

Is it me or does McCain seem to be the same out of touch politician that George Bush is?? God bless him for his service to this country, but its time for a new direction. We've had 8 years of bad decision making and politics. Let's try something different...at the point that this country is at, what could it hurt? O-BAM-A, O-BAM-A, O-BAM-A...
