Charlie who? I recognize the name since this character was AG of FL at the time one of my cousins died there. Crist was less than useless to our family when we asked him for help in settling a complex estate.

McCain should pick someone with name recognition for VP and not a Mormon, a minority or a woman. So the Stumper three above are out! I'm not against Mormons, minorities and women but McCain needs to maximize the anti-diversity vote. He needs to realize that a lot of people myself included will be voting for him for that very reason!

We're done with Hillary, now is the time to knock Obama out!

Very bad move on McCain's part if he were to choose this gentleman as his V.P.

Age is what I believe most people are looking at when they view McCain, and for

him to choose someone that looks like the Candidate is not good.

He'll need someone young and robust and a true conservative.

lol, hes writing for newsweek. i think he'll be ok. i didnt know that much about crist and am glad i have read this. i thought he might be a possibility, but with the drawbacks mentioned it doesnt look good. i have no idea who he'll pick, especially since his main criteria is supposedly "personal compatibility".

Agreed. Since it's already been stated are you nuts? It's pretty common knowledge that the guy's gay. Look I don't care, but if you think that the Republican Party is going to nominate a guy they, all of Florida, and a quarter of the country who pays attention to politics knows is gay you're insane.

Look at the problems McCain's already having. A gay VP? In the Republican Party? Forget it.

Why isn't Crist married.... does he not like women?

He was one of the people who decided to illegally move up Florida's primary to January. That will blow up in his face come November.

There's zero chance that McCain picks him. Besides, what's the difference? McCain won't win in November anyway.

McCain should pick Senator Elizabeth Dole as his VP - who better to answer the call at 3 am than the former head of the Red Cross? She also has a politically experienced, high profile husband with a reputation for bipartisan dealings that managed to keep his pants on.

Choosing Senator E. Dole would also immediately negate any advantage to Hilary Clinton, should Obama be silly enough to chose her as his running mate.

And it would get Dole out of my state of North Carolina, so Edwards could get his seat back.

Does it really matter? McCain could have Jesus as a VP and he'd still lose in a landslide. At least 14 Republican members of Congress have refused to endorse or publicly support McCain for president, and more than a dozen others declined to answer whether they back the Arizona senator. Are you kidding me? Evangelicals hate him. Right wing pundits bash him. He is looked at as an old, boring version of George Bush except he has less party support and can't raise any money. Registered Republicans are leaving the party in droves. The Republican party is arranging the furniture on the titanic.

Now imagine the total antithesis of this situation. That is what is going on in the Democratic party...

Regardless of your party affiliation, to deny these facts is to deny reality.

Evangelicals hate him because there is nothing spiritual about this man at all. If evangelicals don't vote for Obama, then they won't vote at all. It's all about spiritual inspiration with them and McCain does not offer that.

This is why McCain went after John Hagee so agressively even though he knew darn well that Hagee made those controversial comments vs. Catholics, Women, and Jews.

The Republicans will not have an energized base in November and the Democrats will. Game over.

Personally, I like the idea of Crist: he's capable, informed, intelligent, and knows his way around politics! You don't get to be governor of Florida by being anything less McCain would do very well with Gov. Crist at his side: the evangelicals are done with in this country and McCain would be better suited courting Independants and displeased Democrats, of which there are plenty! Governor Crist may or may not be "GAY"...and i could care less! I want someone who gets things done and is capable of stepping in should Senator McCain need that...which I hope is never the case!

It offends me to no end that the Evangelicals HATE anyone, especially when they spew out how "christian" they are! Let them stew over their mistakes and hypocrisy...I'll take a true American patriot before I would accept their lies and need to pass judgement over those who are better than them!

Here in Florida, it is widely accepted that Crist is gay. This will surely hurt McCain's chances. I'd like to see the two of them together, but I doubt it will happen.
