Still Andrew, we expect an apology on your incomplete article comparing Bush and McCain in which you cherry picked their differences and did not highlight their almost overwhelming similarities:

Your article only ties McCain to Bush on tax cuts for the wealthy

- What about the recent rehatched Bush proposal of privatising social security

- What about appoach to foreign intervention, Iraq and Iran and the war costing $2billion a week

- What about constitutional abuses - - wiretapping, anditution and its current abuses - wiretapping, and the recent Supreme court ruling.

- What about voting against Katrina investigations twice (while holding a private celebration while Louisiana suffered).

- What about the idea of doing nothing regarding the housing bubble that is providing the second drag on the economy even while touting policies (Phil Gramms) that brought it about in the first place.

- The recent flip flop on drilling off our cost.

As a 60-year-old white woman who makes less than $50,000 a year and (wonder of wonders!) voted for Obama in our primary way back in March, I'd really like to quit hearing why I'm going to vote for McCain because I can't have Hillary. Not all of us old ladies are wigged out over what gender the president is but we were all around to see Vietnam debacle and the pall it cast over our generation. Don't count on us agreeing to send our grandchildren off to defend Hallibuton's right to unconscionable profits just because a girl didn't win.

Mother...I am sure there are(many smart women as I have two sisers who live in FL), but the issue is larger than women recognizing Neanderthals. It is about the business-as-usual politics that McCain and McCronies represent. Is there any doubt about Global Warming now? Not in the states bordering Old Muddy there isn't. And yet McCain and McBush want to start off shore drilling...their answer is more of the green house gas stuff??? How about how long, if ever, it would take for the economic benefits to filter down to the consumer. The earliest estimate, admitted by the industry itself, was 10 years. Bush's oil-pals aren't rich enough? He has got to lame-duck them more billions on the backs of average americans? When the same $ could be used to excellerate alternative energy/fuels and offer more immediate financial relief to the average person. McCain launched this idea publicly in Houston this week. It is wrong. It is McSame. It is McShame. And it is only ONE issue where his policy mirrors the failed policies of past administrations.

WE, all smart women and men, need to make a change. It is our government and it is time we take charge.

John McCain's racist remark very troubling

On his campaign bus recently, Sen. John McCain told reporters, "I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." Although McCain said he was referring only to his prison guards, there are many reasons why his use of the word "gook" is offensive and alarming.

It is offensive because by using a racial epithet that has historically been used to demean all Asians to describe his captors, McCain failed to make a distinction between his torturers and an entire racial group.

It is alarming because a major candidate for president publicly used a racial epithet, refused to apologize for doing so and remains a legitimate contender.

Contrary to McCain's attempt to narrowly define "gook" to mean only his "sadistic" captors, this term has historically been used to describe all Asians. McCain said that "gook" was the most "polite" term he could find to describe his captors, but because it is simply a pejorative term for Asians, he insulted his captors simply by calling them "Asians" -- a clearly disturbing message. To the Asian American community, the term is akin to the racist word "***." A friend of mine, a white male Vietnam veteran, pointed out that veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, know how spiteful the term "gook" is. It has everything to do with labeling someone as "other," the enemy and yellow. McCain sent the message that all Asians are foreigners and remain forever the "other" and the enemy.

Lets see- Obama appoints Solis Doyle as the assistant to the VP selection. Slap in the face to Clinton and her supporters(which as I recall where slightly more than Obama's). The arrogance of the Obama supporter as well as his campaign staff to her supporters and staff. The claim that he is a different kind of politician, yet his refusal to weigh in on the gay marriage issue in Califonia, whether or not he supports a ban on gay marriage. Which John McCain does, but, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, has come out against. Besides being an amazing speaker what does Obama actually bring to the Presidency. And the reason I or any other Clinton supporter should vote for him. Is it because he is the lesser of the evils...Hmmm

Along with the fact that McCain cares nothing about women's health issues, does not support preserving a womans right to decide what she wants with her OWN body, voted against SCHIP (medical coverage for poor children), voted against Katrina victims receiving additional unemployment benefits, voted against finding out the causes (twice) of the levee breakage, surrounds himself with special interest groups (which means company's benefit and WE DON'T), flip flops on EVERY issue (bad memory or pandering) where he NOW wants to to drill for oil off our coast lines implying that will help people get cheaper gas (NOT TRUE) and it will take approx 10 years to get the little oil there is which goes against his big speech about how he's for the environment (nonsense). Now, he's using Carle Fiorina to try and capture the Womans vote which is absurd! She ran HP into the ground, used spy tactics on HP employees because she wanted to find out who was leaking her (bad) management decisions to the press and lastly but MOST importantly....She is directly responsible for the OUTSOURCING of HP jobs to India and touts about it on 60 minutes saying "she sees nothing wrong with this decision). WISDOM??? Where do you see any wisdom???? And, he's NOT educated.

Please compare Obama with McCain (ON POLICY AND NOT BIAS) and you'll see only one clear choice. America needs CHANGE. Please....do your homework and don't vote blindly.

By the way...to the person who asked what Obama has to offer....where do I start. This EDUCATED man will offer "first and foremost" PEACE around the world. In a global world, we need a President who can restore our image around the world which would help to diffuse the hatred many have of us. THAT means a safer US (can anyone see that). He won't go to war foolishly killing our children for nothing and he will stop the outrageous gushing of cash going to Iraq stopping not only the cash hole we citizens are contributing but will also stop the profiteering of OUR money to people like Cheney (his investment groups). Obama will not let lobbyists run our Country which will favor Americans and not corporations so we no longer are slaves to credit card companies etc. He will also offer healthcare to Americans which is a basic right for all! He will not give tax breaks to companies like HP (Carle Fiorina's achievement) who outsource American jobs. He'll care about the enviroment and give us real solutions not gimmicks like a gas tax holiday that saves Americans a whopping $30.00 for a whole summer (as proposed by McCain) if Americans would even get that much. This doesn not help anyone and neither does drilling off our coast lines. We don't have as much oil as you think and it would take 10 years just to get it to market AND does not help the enviroment. How about how oil is an International commodity? Did you know that we Americans sell oil to the highest bidder around the world? So, please get smart and do your homework! To yupik1: The problem with this perspective is that you are either for or against something, without giving the option that it isn't an issue that will be pushed in either direction by the person. I am one of those people who may not like homosexual behaviors, but at the same time do not feel that the law should be involved in any way. What goes on in the privacy of the home, as long as the people involved are consenting adults should NOT be an issue that any law should touch.

If you are talking about religion, then it is up to the individual religion if they will or will not perform a marriage for same-sex couples. Separation of church and state makes it a non-issue, except if the state will recognize same-sex unions. Call it what you will, but it should still be a non-issue from your perspective, because if you don't know the people involved, why should you care? I am sure that you do things that others find unpleasant, but that does not mean that those behaviors should be made illegal, does it?

It all goes down to the same issue, if others decide to do something that does not involve others, why should there be a law against it? You may not like it, but at the same time, if it isn't happening in front of you, why should you care? The law is meant to protect people from being harmed by others, and should NOT be there to enforce the beliefs of an individual religion.

This so-called war is a lost cause. We went in because we thought there were WMD's...We should have left the second we realized they had none. In the end, we are the REAL LOSERS in this war no matter the outcome...We are spending $$$BILLIONS$$$, our enemies in Iraq are effectively more efficient than we are. Most of their weapons are donated to them, or were already there so they stole them to use against us. They are essentially a guerilla insurgency with no governmental ties unlike our wars with Germany, Japan, Vietnam, N. Korea. Iraq is becoming to the U. S. what Afghanistan was to the Soviet Union. The only logical solution is to LEAVE NOW! YESTERDAY! Our country is falling apart internally while our focus is in a small country 6,500 miles away!

sffrank, I thought Obama won by that silly little practice called DELEGATES. I could be wrong. the Supers simply nudged the one with the most delegates over the top. Delegates weren't invented this election cycle to railroad your candidate. And try to think with your brain, not hurt emotions. No one "stole" the election. He had the most delegates, most contests won, about half the popular vote. it was a no-brainer. If you're mad at the DNC about FL and MI, voting Republican won't help you if you truly believed in Democratic policies before the nomination (the last I checked, Obama's and Hillary's policies are about 95% identical, and McCain's are getting more like Bush' every day). Further, Obama hasn't slapped anyone. He's always been gracious to Hillary, congratulating her on every primary win, even to the point of making it "her" night on the night he garnered enough Supers to be the presumptive nom. I am not surprised by these polls. Even while all those women were declaring they would vote for McCain if Hillary were not the Democratic candidate I felt sure most of them would change their minds when they compared Obama to McCBush. Now that McCain and Bush are trumpeting all the same tunes it is easy to see why the numbers have changed. John McCain is just not the change America needs at this time. If he had won the nomination in 2000 I might have voted for him. But now he has become a panderer to the far right wing of the Republican party and given up his maverick ways. Besides he is the same age as me and that is too old to run for President. That job is just too demanding for a man (or woman) his age. I know some people will point to Ronald Reagan and say he was older when he left DC but he was already suffering from Alzheimers and was cleerly no longer able to decide much of anything. I realize John McCain's mother is in her 90's but that does not mean her son will duplicate that age and it certainly doesn't mean his mind will continue to be sharp enough to run this country. I would not use the age issue if I were not the exact same age. Since I am 71 I have earned the right to judge the Republican candidate on his age. I'm not at all against old people but I don't want one running the country.

Stay tuned and watch the gap widen over the next 4 months. McCain will get a little bump after the Rep convention, but overall Obama will continue to widen the gap.

I don't think the Reps have any clue what kind of grassroots massive volunteer program the Obama Campaign has initiated. Right now there are tens of thousands of volunteers registering voters, holding fundraising parties, canvasing neighborhoods and recruiting other volunteers. The McCain Campaign should be scared.

I did not say McCain was far right. I said he was pandering to the far right. He is being very disingenious about his views and says whatever he needs to say to get votes. He no longer stands for anything but instead stands for whatever is convenient at the moment. If elected he would govern by what he saw as applying to the moment and would not stand on principle for anything. Obama is smart and seems to make good choices so far for his staff. I think he could be a very good president.

Ridiculous energy policy? Again, I think the Republicans win that too. In what could be a great opportunity for our country to once again lead the world with new technology - alternative energy - the Republicans tell us we should open up preserved parkland and drill offshore. A short sighted policy that most experts agree would do little to reduce either gas prices or our dependency on fossil fuels.

These are the places where Democrats don't speak up because they are in the minority, or feel that others do not share their beliefs. That doesn't mean they change their vote, but most don't want to be seen as going against the norm for their area.

With the exception of the true activists, most people will NOT stand up in a room where people clearly do not agree with their perspective on an issue and talk about it. It makes people VERY uncomfortable. So, you may not know anyone WILLING to say they prefer Obama to McCain, but that doesn't mean they won't vote for Obama.

Obama can help turn this country around and move us in the right direction, which is why people are supporting him. The Rush Limbaugh crowd tends to be so afraid of anyone labeled as a liberal that they will go to great lengths to attack, without knowing why.

So, here is an interesting thought for you: If you are a Christian who is not a Roman Catholic, then you are a liberal in the eyes of Roman Catholics. Think about it for a second, you had "The Church", and then some people dared to feel that The Pope might not be in touch with God. Or you have those who disagree with the priests, so worship in their own way instead of going to Church. From that perspective, change from what was considered "The Way" would be seen as being a liberal from that perspective.

For any issue, no matter how large or how small, there are three ways to look at the issue, one is to be for the issue, there is to be against the issue, and there is a third group that feels that even if you are for or against, that people who are for or against should have the right to feel the way they do. You want to force conservative beliefs on everyone, because you do not believe that others should have the right to decide for themselves what is right or wrong. The attitude of "if you are not with us, you are against us" needs to stop, because it really is a pig-headed attitude where you can't accept any difference in belief that people in the world might have.

There is a reason why those with a college education tend to favor Obama, because when you learn about how things are in other countries, and put things in THIS country in perspective, it gives you a more informed perspective. It isn't about "Liberal vs. Conservative", it is about seeing that other people can have a belief system that is just as valid as your own, and you need to respect that they WILL believe in different things.

This country as a whole needs to lose it's love of the SUV and large trucks. If people have a good reason for having a larger vehicle, that's fine, but you have people who drive these huge SUVs and have no good reason for it.

A subsidy for those with a small fuel-efficient car, and a penalty for those without a commercial use for a large "gas guzzler" would provide the sort of aid to those who need it, and would make people pay for using more gas/mile than they need.

The latest national poll has Obama beating McCain 48 - 42

Right after his nomination and Hillary's concession, it was O vs M 47 - 41

Just prior to his nomination it was O vs M 46 - 43

On average it is Obama vs McCain 47 - 42.3

Where is his bump or bounce nationally? 2 percentage points is within the margin of error.

And how reliable are the polls anyway? There is something called the Bradley effect. This means white voters routinely lie when asked if they will vote for a black candidiate. A black candidiate was running for mayor of LA. The polls consistently had him ahead in the race but he lost. The number of whites who actually voted for him was significantly less than polls would have indicated.

After this election, they will talk of the Obama effect. Let's say conservatively, it amounts to 2 percentage points in polling. Applying that to the average above by switching 2 points from Obama and transferring them to McCain, we have:

Obama vs McCain 45 - 44.3 which is a dead heat. This is probably the reality at this point.

Obama is clearly a contender and McCain has age, Bush and the R word on his tail. Obama is charismatic while McCain is clearly not. On the other hand, Obama is a Liberal and he is the first black person trying to be President when we never had a black VP. McCain is a war hero and tough on defense while Obama bows to the Supreme Court ruling while McCain does not.

For Liberals the Supreme Court performs a function similar to the Papacy for orthodox Catholics. Whatever the Court says Liberals accept.

What we really need now is a President with some backbone like Andrew Jackson. When he disagreed with the Supreme Court, he said "The Court has ruled now let the Court enforce its ruling!" This is especially true today when the Court has issued a dangerous ruling in terms of granting habeus corpus to known terrorists.

I was wondering if these women are voting for Obama because they hate George Bush that much to put a person in office who is clearly non-experience, or are they voting for him because he is a minority? He has shown he is no better then any other politican and yet he is getting most the air time in the media.
