I want a president who doesn't love war. John McCain loves war. He has 2 sons who are in Iraq. The whole family see war as a way to get ahead in life. I want a president who doesn't follow George W. Bush, and McCain does just that. They love the same war, they want offshore drilling to make more money for the oil companies, and both want to give more money to the incredible rich by making tax cuts permanent. Pure McBush policies will only make this recession into a full blown depression.

Sure the republicans have more money at their disposal, but Obama has one donor who has said he will spend his own money to support Obama, Warren Buffett. Is that republicans I hear shaking in their Texas oil boots?

There are no underdogs. The 6 point spread is not enough if you talk to the Obama people. They need at least 6 points to cover the fact that outside groups are going to paint Mr. Obama as a (1) Black, and (2) Inexperienced.

The outsiders will continue to paint Mr. McCain as a Bush. That will slowly wash out.

Results - no underdogs, no leaders - when we get close to November. The loser will be the one that cannot defend a "Swift Boat" attack. There will be many, and one will stick. McCaon and Obama money will not do it - a single group will score the successful hit.

Ain't no such thing as an underfunded Republican candidate for president. And the people writing the big checks expect something in return, which lately has been tax cuts regardless of deficits and their effects on future generations. You can blame about 40 cents of the gas price on the weak dollar that is thanks to Bush and his deficits. It's also disgraceful that the bill for Iraq is being passed to future generations.

This is an obvious truth, but one that the media have glossed over this year. The GOP candidate always has more funds in support of the candidate, sometimes shockingly more over the last 30 years. Even in 1996, when Clinton was an incumbent and a Dole victory considered quite unlikely, the Democrats and their supporters were fiercely outspent.

Indeed, this is the very point Obama made when announcing his decision to opt out of public financing - that given the widening loopholes, accepting the limits on his candidate committee while the rest of the system functioned business as usual for McCain would merely be locking in an even bigger GOP money advantage.

Why shouldn't McCain claim to be the underdog. That is what the polls consistently show as Stumper points out above. But if you look behind the poll numbers, you will see that the race is a lot closer than the LA Times and Newsweek polls are pegging it. The Rasmussen daily tracking polls has them within about six points tops. That's half the distance than the Newsweek and LA Times polls had the Obama lead. Newsweek - 15 points & LA Times - 12 points. But in the Rasmussen daily tracking polls Obama is always in the lead. So, I ask again, why shouldn't he claim to be the underdog?

As far as money goes, McCain is catching up to Obama. Their contributions in May were separated by a mere $400K with Obama in the lead. That could be a fluke though. I wonder if Obama's decision to forego the federal funding could end up hurting him with his contributors. After all, they have to realize they must contribute to subsidize the loss of $85M in federal money. He certainly seems to have a campaign contribution engine.

I have to admit this whole election puzzles me. I've followed politics for some time now at least back to Reagan's defeat of Jimmy Carter which was a seminal point in American politics, the ascendency of the right. If you just look at all the hype, there seems to be an ascendency of the left right now. The problem is that America is still a pretty religious and conservative place. Fully a third of the electorate is conservative with liberals only half that number. The question of religion is relative. America is a much less moral and religious nation than it was say back in the 40s but if you compare America to Europe, America is much more religious than Europe which is in a post Christian phase. The decline of the Lutheran north of Europe is being followed by the decline of the Catholic middle and south.

Part of the reason Democrats don't do well in Presidential runs is the link in the public mind between Democrats and the decline of the family and traditional values. My guess is that Obama's appeal is only surface deep. He certainly has the support of the black electorate but beyond that his support among all other groups except for very liberal whites doesn't run very deep. And as of now 20% of Hillary's supporters say they won't vote for him but nevertheless he maintains his lead in the polls and contributions. What's really going on here?

Rational-(hee hee, let the imagination flow on that one). Um, Bush was in office for over a year when 9/11 happened. Invading Afghanastan was the right choice seeing as how that's where Bin Laden is/was (hell we don't know where he is), but invading Iraq? Nah, bad choice all the way around on that one. It was put in a report that went around Congress that it would be a quagmire but only one person that was in the US Senate at that time (and it wasn't Obama because he was a STATE Senator at the time but still denounced going to war) read the darned thing and voted against it. You never hear about him though. We had absolutely NO business invading Iraq and the only reason we were there is because of oil.

The food for oil ploy didn't work (gasp) and he was killing/starving his own people so the US government figured that we would just "take" the oil. Didn't work out that way now did it? Nope, because they burned the oil fields. Great, just great. So now while we are paying $4+ per gallon of gas oil companies (including the Bush whack family) are lining their pockets. Drilling off of the coast of the US is just crazy in and of itself when the oil companies (1) aren't drilling on the lands that they already have access to (i.e., they own it already); (2) drilling NOW won't help us NOW but only YEARS down the road; and (3) what they drill now already is sold to the highest bidder and it's not the US so why in the world would you think that if they started drilling off our coasts that they would keep that oil here in the US to break our dependence on foreign oil? How dumb do you have to be?

But anyone who has ever followed politics knows that the Republicans have plenty of money and McCain isn't the "underdog" like he would like people to believe. True enough he may have that "cap" of the $84.1 million that he gets from those that donate to the election fund on their taxes but that's not his cap, that's just how much he can get from THAT particular fund. There is nothing stopping him or the Republican party from getting private donations and funneling it towards him during the GE. Same thing with the Democrats. Fortunately, Obama isn't dumb. Refusing that fictional "$84.1 million" from the government allows him to raise all that much more from private donors (me and those like me that donate to him). Because Hillary stayed in the race longer than she really should have she's in debt up to her eyeballs and that puts Obama in a position that he has asked that we split our donations between him and her so she can get out of debt. I thought that was awfully nice of him, don't you? I mean she did donate about $11 million from her own pocket to her campaign.

So I think that Mr. Romano is correct in saying that McCain isn't the "Underdog" like he would like you to believe.

Yes! I agree. Only I would call it COVERAGE. I am sick to death of seeing B.O.'s face on every news site and magazine cover. Obama is the manufactured candidate that the liberal media has created. He's programmed to say all the things that voters want to hear. He reminds me of a toy that when stopped by an obstacle turns instantly and moves in another direction. This JFK wanna-be has practiced his speech inflections, his mannerisms and his demeanor. The problem is that he has about as much a chance of winning this election as David Duke would on the right. The hype, the statistics and the liberal magic that has been created will fade as did John Kerry’s when the voters had to make a decision. The recent polls are slanted in his favor; the word change is so overplayed that it’s almost a mantra of the party just as the hackneyed Bush third term rhetoric that doesn’t have any basis other then their both republicans.

I do give the democrats credit for this last ditch effort to find a candidate that has a shot. The one thing in their equation that will bring Obama down is that he’s a black man with a white influenced upbringing. NO WHITE southern conservative, Baptist, God-fearing, church-going voter will turn their vote over to Obama; it won’t happen despite the propaganda about white protestant conservatives (evangelicals) whatever you call them, to a Black man. As a transplanted northerner living in the southland for 10 years I see this first hand. Go to any Baptist supper, service or Sunday school and you can count the African Americans on one finger. This will play out on Election Day and the red states will stay red and the blue states with Blue collar voters will put McCain over the top overwhelmingly come November. If you don’t believe this your whistling past the gaveyard.

Objectiveviewer, calling Gore intelligent lost your argument with me. Gore and his ilk are why the Democrats are where they are now. A man who claims he invented the internet and then produces a documentary on global warming that is full of mistatements and lies is not someone I want leading my party. You probably heard by now that Gores house uses the equivalent of 265 houses energy - some statement there. Do what I say - not as I do! Oh, by the way... the earth's average temperature has dropped every year since 1998 - some global warming there.

What is happening right now with energy is the fault of Congress. The democrats want the american people to suffer a little so that they will elect Obama. You want intelligence in the White House when what we need is Intelligence in Congress . We don't have that and Congress is calling the shots - not the President. The President only controls 25% of the budget - guess who controls the rest. Change will only happen when we change Congress.

If you want oil prices down, then Congress needs to announce that they will drill for oil off shore and consider drilling in Anwar. Just the announcement would do the trick - you would remove speculation as to what America was going to do. But the democrats in congress do not want that because that would take the economy off the map electionwise. Too bad so many good people are geting hurt because of this election.

Mccain is a known quantity and Obama has a very thin record - that is why Obama gets more attention. That, and the fact that Obama changes his position like I change my underwear - almost daily.

Thank you Obama supporters! I have always felt John McCain is a 'loose cannon', but on the other hand, a 'loose cannon' doesn't readily fit in any mold. Whereas, Obama obviously fits in a racist, elitist mold, which will do anything, or say anything to get in the White House, then look down his nose at those who put him there. Whereas, Obama allowed Oprah to raise funding for him, I didn't see McCain going to David Duke! John McCain has proven his patriotism, and done so with his own blood, that can't be denied, he waited his place in line before being released from the 'Hanoi Hilton', refusing to leave before those who were there before him, that speaks well of his character. What did Obama do? Beat up on a girl! In my opinion, poor character! I expect an October surprise, but until then, although I am an Army veteran, John McCain is Navy, and there is some esprit de corps there, I consider him a comrade, and a patriot, this he has proven consistently, Obama just went to some elite colleges. It is the soldier who least wishes to go to war, but is the most willing to do so, as there is a price to be paid for freedom, the currency is blood! It is only those who have paid the price that can fully understand what the cost of freedom is! John McCain paid that price, Obama did not. This is the first time in my 55 years that I have been ashamed to be a Democrat, as a result, when I go to the American Legion National Convention this summer, and both candidates address the convention, I will have a check to hand John McCain, Obama will get nothing.

McCain’s candidacy should be rejected. He failed to see what a mess his vote to attack Iraq would cause. Now, suddenly he is the prophet of what would happen if we were to leave Iraq. Where was this gift of prophecy when he voted to race into Iraq? Thanks to him, Iraq is a three trillion dollar tax increase in the making. We expected our "experienced" elder statesmen to get it right and ask the tough questions about the intelligence on Iraq. Not McCain, showing a lack of knowledge of Middle East history and limited leadership and experience, failing to stand up to Bush, he joined the mob in the mad dash into Iraq. Hussein was the self supporting buffer to Iran. Now McCain has virtually given Iraq to Iran on a silver platter. The status, which he is giving to Iran and now claiming that it’s such a big problem, came about because he voted to give it that status. Yet, having no vision or wisdom, he still doesn't see it or get it. The west’s decision-making record, on the Middle East, is horrendous and is continuing. With McCain's help we are now up to our necks in a hole in Iraq from which no one can escape except our allies!! Now he is laying the ground work for making another hole in Iran.

McCain's poor judgment on Iraq represents a multi-trillion dollar mistake. Most of us would be fired. For McCain to ask for a promotion and a pay raise is reprehensible. That Navy Captain, who runs his ship aground wouldn’t dare dream of becoming an admiral. Here, we have McCain in all his sound judgment, wisdom and extensive experience asking America to hold a President to a standard well below that of his subordinates! Finally, McCain continuously talk about victory in Iraq. One would suppose that we can over time kill enough Iraqis to blot out their distaste for our being in their country. After all, we have the "bomb" and they don't. Piling up the death count against a people, who are ten thousand miles away from us and who never did anything against us, and claiming victory must carry a stench all the way to the nostrils of God.

Wow, I can't believe how many so-called bloggers on the RNC payroll (once-removed) are out in force!!? You see, they are paid to spread propaganda such as "Obama is a closet Muslim" and "Gore is an idiot" what in the world does this have to do with the election or the article from Mr. Romano? Well, it is effective propaganda and does affect voters. Voters tend not to vote on issues such as "Who has the soundest energy policy?" or "Who has the best plan for job creation and economic recovery?" or "Who supports our troops with actual improvements in body armor, training, healthcare [MCCain voted against] college tuition, etc.?" Unfortunately, these are not the questions voters ask of their candidates. Instead, they fall for anonimous emails from the RNC consultant companies about something someone heard about some "liberal" candidate that the liberal press won't print. For example, look at the statement from waterconserver on this post: "The Earth's average temperature has dropped every year since 1998..." He actually believes this. And, then he says "what is happening with energy right now is the fault of Congress." I love this one. Dems have had Congress since Nov 2006 and now they are to blame for the 2005 Energy Policy Act. That is a thing of beauty.

I was at my 7 yr. old son's baseball game. Some of the kids were talking very negatively about taking the other team down. Coach said, "Guys, when you get to high school, whose team are those guys going to be on?" The Comets they said. The same team we are going to be on. People are saying such negative things. One person stated, I can't wait to taste the tears of Republicans when Obama gets elected. Is that really what America has become???

I am voting for McCain. I have talked with him at six different town hall meetings. I went to an Obama rally also. I have studied each candidate. My concern is this. Obama stated he would take public financing of the election early on, and now has changed it. McCain did not. He sticks to his principles on most issues. His changes in the tax breaks that Bush started weren't because he was against tax breaks, he was against the way these were iniatiated in Congress and had a different plan that he offered. Now that we have this set of tax breaks, he stated to repeal them for another plan would not make sense to the American People.

By the way, who was Right on with Iraq? McCain's victory plan is working Media hasn't shown this:

Tell me Obama's run option would have worked. America can be a strong nation again. We must elect conservatives to Congress, and also at the State and Local levels. Please people get involved. Also.....when it is all said and done. Remember whose team you are on, it is America, not left wing or right wing. Support the winner and help them make America Great! If Obama wins, I will not be the one bad talking him. Only Focus on what we can do to the positive.

McCain has faced scrutiny again and again in his time in the Senate. He has a strong record on issues of fiscal responsibility. Obama hasn't stayed anywhere long enough to develope much of a record. Nixon and Kissinger kept up the fighting and the bombing but most of the deaths came in the early years of that debacle.

Oh, and the late 1970s under Carter were the worst in my opinion (until now) in my 56 years. Carter and his Congress of that era were why the Conservatives became so strong in the '80s - a direct backlash against Jimmy and those policies of his day. One thing was good at the White House under Carter tho'! The Peanut Prez himself made sure that the tennis court schedule was up to date and followed precisely. Remember ol' Jimmy and Billy and those sweater wearing days at the White House? How SORRY was that? Jimmy is still an imbecile when it comes to most policy but he builds a nice starter home!!

I love the way Democrats want to say the last 8 years have been so terrible. Truth be told, the average American has more money in their pocket now than they did in 2000 (after adjusting for inflation). Take a look around at all the people driving 30, 40, and 50 thousand dollar cars and tell me life has been Soooooo bad! The housing debacle had more to do with greed (from sellers and buyers) than from anything that took place in the White House. Bush put more money in everyone's pockets with his tax cuts (that will go away after Obama gets elected). The gas prices have escalated since the Democratic Congress took over and won't be fixed by Obama's tactics. Democrats have fought for years against energy sources in our own country (let's not damage that environment) and now we are paying the price. If we started drilling and building refineries in addition to Nuclear plants over the last 15 years, we would be independent of foreign nations. So stop blaming Bush for problems the Democrats have not attempted to solve. Wake up and smell the coffee. Obama will be the 2nd coming of Carter and our Nation will never survive. So I guess the VERY liberal press is yet again saying that poor lil Obama is gonna be overwhelmed by the tidal wave of money. I wonder if, as this article suggests, he who ends up scraping the most coin together wins? Why don't we just dispense with the election and all that pesky voting and just give the crown (s'cuse me, we're not a monarchy yet) to the one with the most money donated at the end of the day? I think Mr Romano misses the point of McCain's underdog statement because he's comparing apples to oranges. Until we actually go to the system of declaring the one with the most money donated at the end of the day winner, we're going to have to rely on polls and the like to see who's actually garnering favor amongst voters. As to Billary's affect on this whole mess, I think it's fair to say she won't be counting hanging chads with Obama in Florida any time soon.

Interesting how McCain is refered to as an "insurgent" twice in the first two paragraphs. Why would you use a word that most people associate with terrorists to describe a US Senator who has served this country for over 40 years? He's a "scrappy insurgent" because some Americans are "concerned that McCain will pursue policies that are too similar to George W. Bush's"? According to Webster, an insurgent is someone who rises up in opposition to political or governmental authority. If McCain's policies are so similar to Bush's, how is he in opposition? What makes him an insurgent? Wouldn't Obama be the "insurgent" here? Please explain what you meant by using that word? Was it a lame attempt to associate McCain with terrorists in your reader's minds or were you simply unaware of the word's definition? Whatever your reasoning for refering to him as an insurgent, you were wrong to do so and completely out of line. Whether you agree with Senator McCain's politics or not, he does not deserve to be insulted that way.

I had been a registered Democrat since I started voting. I voted straight party line, thinking that the Dems would protect the working middle class. After the Dems won back both Houses in 2006, I started watching C-Span 2 to see my Senators in action. I was shocked and betrayed to see that the Dems were doing literally nothing. Every piece of worthy legislature contained a "sure-kill" provision, and Reid refused to allow debate and amendments.

I started researching the major laws that have impacted our economy and diminished the middle class.

Under Nixon and a liberal Democratic Congress, trade with China was opened - one sided trade if you take out agriculture.

Under Carter and Reagan and a liberal Dem Congress, the Windfall Profits Tax of 1981 & 1982 all but eliminated the tax credits for small business which created a decline in manufacturing.

Under Reagan and liberal Dem Congress, the Sherman Anti-Trust act was never invoked, creating monsterous mergers. Free trade continued.

Under Bush and liberal Dem Congress, we went to war with Iraq over oil.

Under Clinton and liberal Dem Congress, HR 3450 NAFTA (11/22/1993) was voted into law with support from 75% Republicans and only 41% Democrats - the liberals wrote the law and voted for the law - only moderate Democrats and Republicans voted AGAINST NAFTA. Those same liberals are lobbyists for free trade and advisers of Obama. (Daschle, Kerry, Kennedy, Biden, Nunn, Brzezinsky, Pelosi, Hoyer, Richardson, Bingaman, Baucus, Hart etc.)

The Democratic party is NOT run by the working class and is NOT for the working class. The Liberals are for GLOBALIZATION not SOVEREIGNTY, They have stood by and encouraged taking away our constitutional rights. The new FISA (written by Obama supporter Sen Rockefeller) allows the warrantless surveillance until 12/31/2012.

Knowledge has released me from the grips of the DNP. Knowledge has inspired me to see the defeat of every neo-liberal who is for GLOBALIZATION and against bringing the middle class back to America.

We need McCain as POTUS in order to buy us time to throw out all neo-liberals and neo-conservatives who are destroying USA.

Good try matrixnov! Social Security gives Americans a false comfort that they will have cash flow as they get into retirement. The Government uses that money for social programs now with a hope of providing you some cash later. It's a failed program that if replaced with an actual IRA for each worker paying in, we would all retire comfortably after 40 years in the work force. I'll leave you the cat food. I plan on taking my RV around the country for next 10 years or so before I retire permanently on a Florida beach. If the neo-libs were so interested in the working class, WHY DID THEY NOT close the Enron Loophole? Because, it would bring the price of gas DOWN - ".. the wrong direction. Yeah right...not ONE economits, not ONE came out to support the "gas tax holiday"...instead the and all others stated the obvious...that the gas tax holiday reprieve is a hoax...get real, now I am for off shore drilling however, and that's not because it will cause the price of gas to go down, it won't...it's because the dirty li'l secret is America's energy policy, run on Saudi oil til they go dry, is about used up...if they had the spare capacity to put the extra 2mill brls per day into the pipeline they would...but they can't, so reality is America needs to drill off shore so it HAS oil period...not to reduce the price...as that ain't happening...and if ur interested ANYONE, look at the XR-3, a guy in Phoenix is developing a vehicle, two seater kit, that will run a 23hp diesel motor for front wheel drive and get 125mpg, and yes it's real, check his website...hope to have one built for next summer...

So, if all the trash on Obama would have been printed in the papers last summer, would we be talking about Obama vs. McCain? I think not. Since his true colors were presented, he lost 3 very big states in Texas, Penn, and Ohio. If Florida and Michigan were allowed to vote (but every vote only counts when the Dems want them counted), Clinton would have won the nomination.

Funny how she preached for months that Obama didn't have the experience, knowledge, or abilities to be the POTUS, but now her suporters want to say he's the man. LMAO!

Unfortunately, many have been educated under the "dumbed down" public education implemented by Senator Ted Kennedy. I was taught that history is biased depending on who wrote it. I was taught to think logically, and to question what does not seem logical. Thus, my enlightening of my Democratic leaders.

The Republicans used to be more about State Rights (which McCain is still) and the Democrats were more about Federal Power to protect individual rights (which about 25 - 30% of Democratic Senators still are). Many of the Republicans got money greedy, and many of the Democrats got power greedy.

So funny - we're polar opposites. I voted Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Reagan, Bush - and likewise in state and local elections - either Republican or Right to Life. Then I started noticing bad Republican things (Nixon wasn't enough to throw me).

Well, Jill didn't reference all of her hard work, but first of all - Carter was no longer president in 1981 - so if that's when that tax was created then Carter wasn't involved. But, no matter who did it, why not give them credit for trying to recover some of those record breaking profits. Not everything works - and hindsight is 20-20 - but they tried!

Jill is like the first person that I've ever heard complain about the first Gulf war. So surprising that she would actually include it in a reason to leave the Democratic party. First of all, Bush took the reins on that and took us to war, second it was quick and mostly painless; third even though it was about oil, it would have been devastating to the entire world if Iraq had been allowed to disrupt the world's supply of oil.

Their is a mixed opinion on NAFTA - the USDA (all gov't agencies are currently Bush crony staffed) says it works. They liked it so much that they did CAFTA-DR in 2005 (Republican congress & Republican president)

The Executive (president) and Legislative (congress) branches are equal. That means it's not like 1 against hundreds, but 1 against 1. So, when you write Republican President and Democratic Congress they have an equal say. That means they acted in a bipartisan manner to either benefit the people, or to get something else get through that helps the people. This is usually considered a good thing. The exception being Reagan who, I think, bullied a lot of things through because of his popularity. Also there were the illegal under the cover dealings that he couldn't get through.

Even though I didn't research Sherman-Anti Trust during Reagan's administration, I know because it was so recentt that Bill Clinton with a Republican congress did. I can remember Bill Gates in court and even the lawyer David Boies who won against him. Not just Bill Gates, though - the phone and cable companies etc. Do you remember Jill? What I remember is all of a sudden our cable bill went down and we stopped being charged for multiple TVs.

Jill complains about the new FISA bill. Doesn't she realize that it was a compromise bill to get it through? The Democrats compromised with the Republicans and that's why it took on that Republican type slant. There is no Democratic majority in the senate. It's 49-49 with two independents - a neocon former democrat and a liberal former republican. And Cheney is the tiebreaker so that makes it a Republican Senate. The house doesn't have a filibuster or veto proof majority - so Jill is mistaken there. When the Dems had the slight majority in the house, they were accused by the Republicans of being "obstructionist". This doesn't take research - just remember back 1 1/2 years. Now that the Democrats have a slight edge in the house, the Republicans do nothing but obstruct.

Did your research lead you to the new GI bill by Jim Webb? He pushed it through with opposition from both Bush & McCain who then took credit for it. How about the Enron Loophole? Did you seen the senate hearings on that? Did you research to see how many times McCain opposed closing that loophole or who benefits from it and their association with McCain?

To finish, I think that it's peculiar to say you are a democrat, but that the democrats aren't "left" enough for you so you will vote for the Republicans. I think if you had been watching CSpan, you would have seen some of the things I did - and oh like when Jim Webb kept the congress open during the Christmas holidays so Bush couldn't make his usual appointments to the courts. I think she is a closet Republican who is saying she's a Democrat so other Democrats will be swayed by her unsupported/illogical issues. I also don't think she saw CSpan - I think she has been getting her info from Fox news.

Did you understand that the people working the very stressful, life depending job of traffic controllers were being made to work double shifts. They were pressed to the point of nervous breakdowns and Reagan wouldn't negotiate with them. Firing them (and by the way they were rehired at a later point) further jeopardized the passengers. I actually knew 2 air traffic controllers - and witnessed 1 of them under that stress; and heard about it from the other. Did you check into the repercussions of the firing of the air traffic controllers before wishing for another Reagan?

You did NOTATALL get the point. If someone says did you have sexual relations and the other person asks for the definition of sexual relations - and the definition is intercourse and intercourse was not had then the honest answer is no. Once again - that's why he was not convicted.

As for IRAQ, I know several soldiers that are there at this moment. Some are close relatives and some are not. They tell a different story of how the U.S. is percieved there than you do. I think I'll believe them instead of you. Do I think we should get our boys and girls out of harm's way? YES. Do I think they're there for no reason? NO. I've read too many personal letters of kindness and humanity and a very grateful people, written by our soldiers to think there's anything sinister going on by the soldiers. I'm not talking about those few corrupted souls who make all of our troops look bad by breaking whatever human rights laws suit them. I'm talking about our children, nephews nieces and brothers and sisters that are doing something they believe in. Helping liberate so many held in tyrany by so few. And staying long enough to ensure that things don't just go back to the way they were. I think you'd feel the same way if you were in a minority sect in Iraq. Being tortured and killed not because you worship, but because of the way you worship. So you can think that this is only about the oil all you like. It's simply not true.

He asked for permission to invade Kawaiti from our US Ambassador. And then we bombed him.

The California States Attorney sued the US government for the right to invoke the Sherman Anti-Trust since the Reagan Administration never would. In late 1989/early 1990, he won the right in federal court that ANY individual had the right to sue against potential monopolies - both vertical and hortizontal.

I have been doing small business taxes for years, and have seen directly just how various laws enacted under whichever POTUS and under the neo-liberal Congress have affected the small businesses. The Windfall Profits Tax of 1981 reduced and phased out Investment Tax Credit. Which caused small businesses not to make annual equipment purchases, because they needed the money to pay taxes. (I originally thought it was because big business could only get a manimum of $25K ITC.)

Under Reagan and Bush, businesses were given tax incentives to move manufacturing plants across the border. World Wide Income, included worldwide expenses. The US offices never had the physical possession of the products, and therefore it could be considered Mexican income.

NAFTA. With manufacturing already given preference to moving to Mexico, it only allowed the US people to buy back the same products they once made in the US. Our agricultural products "could be in more competition" under NAFTA. (If you are hungry, you will buy food regardless of the price, and I don't believe that wheat is abundant in Mexico.) And, yet it was the Senators from manufacturing and agricultural states who voted against NAFTA. Our manufacturing base was already downsized due to all the other free trade agreements.

FISA (HR 6304). The original version was overwhelmingly approved by the judical committee of the Senate. It was the Intelligence Committee under Sen John D Rockefeller who blocked the original version and replaced it with the full 5-year immunity clause. It was the moderate Democrats in the House who opposed the full immunity and the 4 year extension of warrantless wiretapping. Sen Feingold is a true liberal, not a neo-liberal, who opposes it because of the invasion of rights. Many on the Judical Committee still oppose the NEW FISA.

Why compromise against something that should never be? If it doesn't get passed in the bad form, it ends. Just like with the continual funding without plans for Iraq. What rational person would write a bill for something they are against, knowing that they control the floor? Unless, of course, it is only for show, and they really ARE for it.

Enron Loophole should have been closed the day the Dems took over. The neo-lib Dem Reid has blocked appoinments to the FEC (only 2 of 6 seats are filled.) They could have easily closed it under 2005 laws, but without a majority on the commission, they could enforce nothing.

Senators Dorgan and Cantwell have been discussing the oil futures board nearly every day in morning business and the need to close the Loophole. Both Houses held numerous hearings, with the same conclusion. It is not supply and demand, but day traders, hedgefunds, and others who don't touch oil driving up the price of crude oil by 35% to 50%.

S 3044 Consurmer First Energy Act of 2008, would close the loophole immediately, but, the neo-libs added Sec 7a, Oil Producing Cartels, making OPEC subject to US laws, no longer immune under the doctrine of swovereign immunity. (OPEC has sovereign nations as members.) It also included windfall profits tax on oil companies for returning the inflated profit due to the speculators. (That could lead to standardized profit of all types of companies and trades - SOCIALISM.) Title II, Section 204, allows for Presidential Declaration of Energy Emergency, ie in layman terms - strict rationing.

I could go on and on. The neo-liberals do not have our best interest in mind, but GLOBALIZATION.

I am not a closet Republican, nor do I watch Fox news. I watch C-Span 2 when the Senate is in session. For TV news, I only watch local news and Lou Dobbs. So, you can say I am a Lou Dobbs Independent. And, I am for America first and Corporate and Elitism greed never.

Nobody has intimated the soldiers are doing "sinister acts", on the contrary they too have been betrayed by the REPUGNICANS, three and four deployments to Iraq, patched up to where they couldn't play a game of tennis and sent back over...hey as a former military guy my heart goes out to them, and I give senior Bush credit as he knew when to stop - as he knew Cheney's "we'll be greeted as liberators" would only be for a short while before we were looked at as "occupiers", and rightfully so, as no American would stand for it either - so the REPUGNICANS doomed the military to being "target practice" for the insurgents (which is really just a term for the people that are Iraqi's btw, though the REPUGNICANS would make it out to be that insurgents are evil doers...yeah right, as if u wouldn't be an insurgent if someone invaded ur land)...

At least we will know what we are getting if he manages to win in Nov. Can we say the same about Obama? How about some details on Obama's youthful drug use mainstream media?
