The real discussion on immigration just ain't gonna happen because it involves the unspeakable word. No, not the one that starts with an F, it's the word that starts with R and stands for race. This country is just too hypocritical to discuss the issue of race or mixed race as it pertains to immigration out in the open.

I think the answer is simply to end immigration from Latin America. We have been more than generous to Latin people. However, the white base is shrinking and the Hispanics for the most part are of mixed race, Mestizos. We need to shore up the white segment. This can be done in one way from two parts of the world. Open up a five year window in which there is a very large influx of East European and Russian people as well as unrestricted immigration from Southern Africa for any whites who wish to escape black rule. Then close the window and simply end immigration to the US. Immigration to a country should not alter the demographics of the receiving nation in any significant way.

People from the former Soviet block did not have the ability to immigrate to the US until fairly recently. They should be allowed to play catch-up. Whites in Southern Africa are experiencing unprecedented crime under black rule. Many fear for their lives. In South Africa farming families are experiencing a type of genocide. We see what happened to the whites in Zimbabwe. It is only a matter of time before this moves to South Africa. Constitutions in Africa aren't worth the paper they are written on. The US providing a safe haven to these people would be performing a humanitarian service. In return we will shore up our white base with industrious people and provide new blood to our agricultural communities.

For our business and elites to deport 12 million workers would shut down their source of exceedingly cheap labor. These workers have no recourse when they are not paid for their work or abused in countless illegal ways by employers. In fact, in much of the services industry, wages paid to undocumented foreign nationals are the only thing that keeps some of those business profitable and afloat. Many of the jobs done by them will not be done by White Americans any longer at any wage and especially if compensated at below subsistence wages. The cost of many goods and services would skyrocket for the American consumer were even the minimum wage have to be paid to the workers who produced them rather than the pitance paid to the current workers. As it is mostly the conservatives in this country who want immigration stopped. Too bad for them, they are too late. There are enough Latinos in the country already and they have such high birthrates, that the inevitable can not be escaped. That they will eventually take over. Since right-wingers are well known for their racism, bigotry and intolerance of anything and anyone who lives differently or who has values different from them, we can only conclude that their call for a halt to illegal immigration of brown-skinned people has more to do with their realization that birthrates among Latinos will ultimately result in Whites being a minority in this country, than with any negative affects of their presence here.

It's about the law and how government , business, politicians, and illegals chosre to break the law. Our government is supposedto enforce the law, but they turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, even punishing some on the border patrol for upholding the law. Businees wants cheap labor, but illegal immigration has driven down wages in construction, the hotel industry and, food processing industry and others. Politicians want a new votingblock and would sell us all out, just to keep their party in office. They have chosent the party over the country, kind of like treason.

I have relatives that tried to come here from Europe, only to be rejected. To have someone here illegal then be allowed to stay and become a citizen is immoral.

In the media's continuing effort to be “fair and balanced” you are leaning far heavier on the “balanced” side than you are to the “fair.” I am an Immigration Attorney who closely followed the CIR talk. While I agree that McCain was absolutely principled and courageous at the time, your take that Obama voted for a "poison pill" and that he bears some responsibility for the failure of the bill is beyond ludicrous. It was the conservative base that killed this bill that killed this bill long before any amendments were introduced. I wouldn’t put this on McCain’s shoulders either mind you. And you show an astonishing ignorance as to the text of those amendments. At least one of which was for additional employment based visas that had nothing to do with legalization. In any event, yoou must ask yourself: Would the un-amend version of this bill has passed the Senate Republicans in an election year? If you can honestly say “yes” then you are delusional, but I’ll give you more credit than that.

Now McCain has flip-flopped on this issue and rather than hold his feet to the fire as the Hispanic community is rightly doing, you decide that there was some equal failing on Obama's part. Unfortunately, this is the new Media trend. No one can ever simply be wrong, the other party must be faulted even where no fault exists so you can appear "objective." Meanwhile, I believe you should look up the true meaning of the term because it means being un-biased and not that you give equal criticisms where they are unwarranted.

Maybe you can keep this in mind next time and have a better showing...

1) It would make sense to only give dual citizenship to those that are here legally (born to citizen parents, visa, green card, or in the process of getting the latter two), that would eliminate the problem of legal kids with illegal parents.

2) Implement the employment checks, make sure that the social securrity numbers match the person wanting the job. (that would eliminate the passive illegal hiring and also protect the legal holder of the number. It won't be perfect at first, but how many goverment programs are perfect right out of the box?)

3) Place those that use numbers in jail for a amount of time and automatically deport them, (no going through a judge) then place a ban on them getting any future consideration for citizenship. Maybe it could be expanded to include that being caught would mean a lifelong ban. It may be a deterence if they know that they could not be citizens if they are caught at all.

4) And darn it.... Improve the visa system.... If we need them to help out in this country, then we got to fix the visa program. We got to make it easy for them, but safe for us. Get the lawyers out of the way and let the people who have a better knowledge of what needs to be done do it.

5) Qoute from Dan 1 'It was the conservative base that killed this bill that killed this bill long before any amendments ...' Bull, I'll probably be voting for Obama, that is if he doesn't step on his crank with golf shoes, but both sides killed the bill And both sides typically blamed the other. The bill wouldn't work becouse they put a bill together becouse of public pressure, then slapped amendments on it that people wouldn't aprove of, and left it to die on the House floor. We've got to balance between enforcement and fairness. But if we don't get it right now, we'll be going through this again in a few more years. I have questions on why Obama wanted to place admendments on the bill, but I don't blame McCain when he and Kennedy walked away from it.

6) Tell the Mexican goverment to shove it on their complaints about our policies. Money sent from the U.S. makes up a very large portion of the Mexican economy. And their policies towards other Central and South American immigrants are by far worse then ours. I've read in other stories that if we sent back all Mexican illegals back, that their economy would collapse... But so would ours! Maybe not as much, but it'd still be a major blow. And we don't want to commit national suicide by cutting our own throats, and we don't want to have a Zimbabwe in place of a democratic goverment in Mexico. They had a democracy in name only for many years, but they are well on the way to bootstrapping themselfve to a higher level. We don't want them to go go back to a one party rule, where the money only went to a small goup of people.

I'll get off my soapbox, I just had to comment seeing all the bull that reporters and pols keep putting out... And don't get me started about the so-called activists and talking heads! If you want to flame me you can contact me at pacrat100@hotmail.com. I just love a good debate.

Let's let the facts get in the way of your opinion - here are the roll calls for CIR - http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00157

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00228

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00235

Which party was it that primarily voted against the bill and against cloture? Hmmm...Looking at the last vote there were 53 nays and 37 of them were repugs.

The fact is, once the far right got a hold of the issue, there would be no legalization program and the so-called moderate republicans, which is a contradiction in terms, cow-towed too their base.

But once again, let's not let a little old thing like the facts get in the way.
