Jeb Bush trashed Florida before he left office...Charlie Crist is just a big liar that has not corrected the problems that he helped to create...The people in Florida have property taxes and insurance bills that have increased more than 400% in 5 years...Obama will be able to give McCain a run for the money in this election...

Our parents live in a retirement community in Southern Florida; twice in the last month they, along with approximately 200 other elderly residents of their community ,have been visited - and lectured to - by members of a Florida Republican group. The lecture's subject? Obama is a Muslim and anyone voting for him in November endangers the USA. The depth that McCain will go to is clear to anyone who hears this group: disgusting. I've already decided that my Republican affiliation will be changed immediately to Democratic. How dispicable to meet and talk with elderly people and bring up this garbage!

response to Chicocdm...God help you for being so narrow minded . You say Obama is scary and do not say why. I think McCain is scary because his first line of action is to pick up a gun and get us in another war. I have teenage grandchildren and that type of thinking is frightening to say the least. As for your comment about the telepromter, its not factual only your opinion. Obama has had 22plus debates, many media one 0n ones, spoke over an hour about his faith on cnn and much more without the telepromter. McCain when off script mixed up sunie and shea. Thought Chex was still a country and that Iraq shared a border with Packistan etc......I think thats scary!!!

I don't dispute the results but the Florida Polls are leaving out three important elements..

1. Hillary Clinton supporters like myself, that after nursing my wounds and hollering at the Obama supporters, returned to sanity. If you're for Hillary, you're for universal Health Care. If you're for Hillary, you're for getting out of Iraq. Could i vote with the mouth-breathing Republicans who are willing to sacrifice out troops to keep the white house. NO WAY!

2. For the Firdt time in Florida, since the Cuban influx, the Hispanic Democrats out number the Republicans. Cubans are basically Democrats in their thinking, in miami many are Republican because the good old boy Democrats that were here years ago kept them out of the party. they ran as Republicans and replaced the idiots. Those idiots, just like the Southern Bigots have vanished and the process has opened and more Cuban-American Democrats are getting elected. We have a commissioner in Pembroke Pines that is brilliant.

3. The Obama campaign has worked tirelessly to register new Democrats and a tremendous increase in Democrats who will vote for Obama will be at the polls for the first time in November.

The polls could not possible have taken into account these three dynamics.

Does that mean the State will go for Obama? Who knows ? The State has been decided by a razor thin margin for many years now.

In the next few days Bill Richardson, Hillary and Obama will be here and things could change rapidly.

For the first time in a long time Florida is not a make or break stae. i hope we do add to Obamas Rout over McCain. The further we push the mouth-breathing, out of touch Party (MBOOTP) back into the primortal ooze from which they came, the better for everyone it will be. Imagine supporting a Party's candidate that pledges to sacrifice our Bravest Young women and men just to appease the ultra-Right-wing/ How in the world could someone do something like that? Don't the ones who support sending more soldiers to their deaths in a war cooked up by their party bear equal responsibility?

Barack has in the bank, more than 300 electoral votes and that doesn't include Florida or Virginia. If he win those McCain may not break 200 votes and the G OLD P will fade further and further and further and finally achieve what they've been working toward, 3rd party status and a weak 3rd party at that. Florida isn't for sale and neither is the presidency. If Obama wanted to get on Florida's good side, he should have insisted the DNC allow the primary be held and count all the votes in Florida, no matter what the situation. Obama can't use Florida voters only when it's convenient for him.

Obama has already called for a convention floor vote to reseat/reinstate all the delegates from both FL and MI. He did that about 2 weeks before going on vacation, when they were making resolutions for the DNC convention in Denver. Now...don't you just feel silly? Yes? And well you should.

Oh, and Richard, as to your assertion that Florida isn't for sale, I unfortunately must beg to differ. Dubya bought it...twice!! Of course it helped to have his bubba in the state house when he literally stole it the first time around. That probably won't be the case this time around, as the GOP doesn't even have the money to fund their convention this year. They are $10 million short... so if you have any pocket change lying around.... just a thought.

But as I wouldn't count on the RNC trying too hard to buy Florida, they have already established their tactic for your lovely state though..since you are behind on your reading, dear Richard, I'll gladly share. They are planning to challenge all recent/pre-election voter registrations in an effort to keep Floridians away from the polls and/or keep their votes from being counted. Now, I can't speak for you, but if it was my vote they were planning to disallow/challenge...I'd by royally p*** off!! So if you want a good reason to be angry, I'd say you have a much more viable source than the DNC. This tactic will also be implemented in PA, OH, MI, CO, and NV. This isn't top secret stuff, they've made their intentions really clear, unfortunately the mainstream media, in their infinite wisdom (eh-hem) does not seem to feel that this is newsworthy. How's that grab you?

Speaking as someone volunteering for Obama in Florida I can verify the massive effort that is going on to win this state. Of course it will be difficult because the Reps are in charge of Tallahasee and they know how to steal elections by wiping out voter rolls, throwing out newly registration on technicalities, and scaring the poor whites and elderly Jews into thinking that Obama is some type of Muslim radical.

As this article points out we have gotten smarter and are working harder while the Reps are taking things for granted since they won the last two presidential elections. It will not be easy, but CHANGE never is.

Not sure that Obamas investments he plans to make in media purchases (ads, etc.) for FLA will pay off in the GE. Remember prior to the Pennsylvania primary Obama tapped into a significant amt. of campaign money ($11million +) in media purchases in Pennsylvania, outspending Hillarys finances used for media purchases by a margin of 2.3 to 1 and it did not make a difference in the long run? Hillary won PA.

It makes me wonder if Obama spending a significant amount of $ on media purchases for FLA will make the difference to win that state, especially if McCain ends up picking that younger Jewish Senator (the senator that Newsweek highlighted in an article a few weeks ago, whose name has slipped my mind). I cant wait until the Vps for each nominee is announced. I would think we will be hearing soon from Obama on his pick with the Demo. Convention nearing. . . .

I am bothered, in the first place, by the promises being made by both men. I am bewildered that both men are making legislative promises.

“When I am president,” each man says, “I will ...” Now correct me if I am wrong, that I might have missed something while I was busy getting old, but when I studied government in school, I think I remember that there were three branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial. For the purpose of this essay only, the judicial branch of government will be overlooked.

In an over-simplification of job descriptions, the president and cabinet are the executive part of the branch trio. The president should keep himself busy conferring with the cabinet and agencies, being commander in chief, setting policy, giving state dinners, making nice with other countries, declaring states of emergency, signing or vetoing legislation, etc. The legislative part of the trio (the representatives and senators) has as its job initiating legislation as needed for the good of the country and their constituents, serving on investigative committees, etc.

Now we get to my contention. Both Senator McCain and Senator Obama are expounding on what they will do as president while continuing to speak like legislators. What they are promising to do in the future as the executive is what they should be proposing now in their current positions as legislators.

Come on now, fellas, if you believe so strongly in what changes need to be made for the good of the country’s problems with the economy, the oil crisis, education and health care, why have you not been back in Washington rallying support in the Senate and writing bills which would begin the miraculous cures now that you are promising for the future? Both you senators remind me of poker players with your cards clutched to your chests. Both of you are bluffing that you have a straight flush, ace high, while holding nothing more than a pair of jacks.

Unfortunately, the other people sitting at the table are about to be taken. Their names are Americans and Voters. Come on now, fellas, if you plan to play this game, show us your cards. Lay them on the table. Show us how you plan to win the game. Show us a workable plan for the cures you are promising. If these plans are so good, why haven’t you been busy in the Senate doing what you are paid to do for the country? Why are you holding back? Is it all a bluff?

Up to this point in the election process, the only thing that has been shown to the voters is age and charisma, experience and inexperience, war hero and academic scholar, pedigree and boot strap climber. Show us some substance. As the commander in chief, how, I repeat, how will you act as leader to make your promises reality? I need to know before I vote; otherwise I will continue to be bothered and bewildered, but certainly not bewitched.

It will be close, but, unfortunately, McCain will win Florida in November. Many Florida Hillary supporters are still smarting from the primary, when their votes were mocked and kicked around for four months, before the DNC decided to count half of them. The DNC would have been smart to count half the delegates from the start, rather than from the finish. Florida has a closed primary, so everyone who voted in the Democratic party was a registered Democrat. Also, the Florida Hispanic vote is unique, becuase many Cubans are Republicans were willing to cross over and vote for the more moderate Hillary than the more liberal Obama. Almost all Florida Hillary Democrats will support Obama, but the problem is they will do so with a lack of enthusiasm. Lack of enthusiasm means lower turn out.

News, another well thought out post from you. I agree with you about the mitakes made by the DNC in the way they handled the fiasco of Florida. I have to disagre with you about Clinton being more moderate than Obama. Their voting records and the ideas on the major issues is very similar. I feel that Clinton's health care proposal was more liberal than Obama's because she wants to make it mandatory that every one purchase health care insurance.

raddave, a great response. Policy wise Hillary and Obama are similar, which is why Hillary is whole heartedly supporting Obama's candidacy.

Hillary generally appealed to more moderate democrats, especially the blue dog types in Florida. She convinced many moderates that she was competent, prepared, and she was a figher who would fight for the working class.

Florida democrats who supported Hillary are generally very loyal and have long memories. They voted for Hillary over Obama in the primary by a 3 to 2 margin. That's why I think Florida, which is purple, will go red again by a relatively small margin.

Pugs - Hillary and McCain are opposites while Hillary and Obama have very similar views on just about issue. When someone says that they supported Hillary, but now they support McCain I can't help, but think that they are either are oblivious to the facts or the just can't see themselves voting for someone that's not white.

I'm sorry, I don't usually go after people on these websites because I'm probably not going to change your mind, but I can't let you get away with this without calling you on it. What you are doing makes no sense. What attracted you to Hillary in the first place? The only things she has in common with McCain are they are both voted for the war in Iraq, and they are rich, white and have been in Washington for a long time.

I'm also in Florida so our votes would cancel each other out, but knowing that I'm working hard as hell to register hundreds of new voters and getting them out to vote. I've been an Obama supporter from about Iowa, but if he lost to Hillary I know there is no way in the world that I would have picked McCain over Hillary. That is just plain insane.

I hadn't heard about this, so I had to do some research on this one. I read a few articles and here's what I found: The "deal" probably refers to Antoin Rezko (wealthy fundraiser) purchasing the lot adjoining the Obama's house. The seller was only interested in selling both lots together, so Rezko bought the lot the Obama's weren't interested in. It seems legit; nobody gave money to Obama for it, or bought it for him. But for the sake of full disclosure, I should pass along that Rezko seems to be a pretty shady character. He is being prosecuted (or was prosecuted??..the articles are from early '08 and I'm not sure of any outcome) on charges of corruption for "shaking companies for kickbacks" Links to a couple of the articles I found are below.

Ok, I admit, like a lot of Americans, I didn't even know there wasan Obama before he entered the race. I knew nothing about him, and I was confident Hillary would be a good president; so I voted for her in the Texas primary. Shortly thereafter I started to become disenfranchised with the way Clinton was running her campaign, so I began reading up on Obama. She would have been great. So will he. I can't sit here and recite legislation (the C-SPAN stuff is soooo boring) but I can pass a few points of interest.

He did some work in foreign affairs - joining several foreign relations committees. He went on a few world wide travel spree; focusing on speaking with world leaders about strategies to keep the world's supply of weapons from being leaked to terrorist groups. He also worked to quell ethnic violence in Africa. He supposedly gave a powerful speech on political corruption at a university in Kenya that people nation wide went gaga for there, but I've haven't been able to find any clips on it.

He also focused on combating political corruption back here in the States. I know he sponsored bills to tighten up criminalization of fraudulent campaign practices in federal elections. He also sponsored that famous bill that Bush vetoed that would have provided extended health care for injured soldiers returning home and their families.

That's about all I got.

Look, obviously I'm a full blown - rape the oil execs and feed 'em to the baby seals - Democrat. My comments are undeniably biased and riddled with sarcasm and jokes - I've always loved pushing buttons. But, I'd like to give a shot at ending this on a more serious note. Unfortunately, the very nature of political campaigns such as these has been obfuscation and slander - on both sides. Each side is going to go through exhaustive lengths to plant fear and doubt about their opponent - like with letters such as these. Do you really think a farm boy without an education has a wide enough networking base for his rants to go viral like this? I doubt a man not computer savvy enough to turn off a cap lock has a huge blog readership or hundreds of MySpace friends. This is obviously just a smear tactic sent out by McCain's campaign meant to manipulate the masses; build on your doubts without producing any facts. This IS America; we all have the right to vote for whoever we choose. But with that freedom to choose comes the responsibility to make it a truly informed one. You cannot simply trust your candidate to tell you all you need to know!! And you surely can't take the word of some unknown stranger whose mysterious, unsigned email pops into your inbox. When buying a house, do you just take the selling realitor's word on it's condition and fork over the cash? Hell no, you get your a$$ in there and root around - maybe even hire someone to check out the wiring and the plumbing! If an opponent says something unfavorable about your candidate, don't just scoff and assume that he's wrong - prove him wrong!! We live in a pretty amazing time; an age where litterally a world of information is at our fingertips and accessible within minutes! Use it! Mainstream media seems to be getting more and more biased, so look to several sources and find the truths that persist across the spectrum. The consequences of this decision are two big not to. No less than the future of every person in America - if not the world - hangs in the balance.

I'M just farm boy - if this guy really does exist, he needs a better excuse.
