I think Stumper is right and Hillary is a definitely no no for many reasons. But who does Obama pick? He can't pick a woman other than Hillary since Hillary's supporters would all bolt. He can't pick another black although I sincerely wish he would pick the Rev Al Sharpton. He can't pick Rev Jesse after his surgical and n comment.

So it has to be a white guy but a white guy who represents change. He can't pick a white guy who is too old (as old as McCain). Biden doesn't represent change and is kind of old. Sam Nunn and Chris Dodd areboth too old. He also needs to pick someone who will help the ticket, balancing his lack of experience and liberalism.

I can't think of anyone out there who would help his ticket under the "change" mantra. I think he's boxed himself in with that and his vp choice will be a non-event. I don't think anyone who is against Obama will be swayed by his vp choice and most of the undecided will end up voting for McCain as the anti-Obama vote,

Three of the most talked-about contenders for Obama veep -Sebelius, Kaine, and Bayh -all have one thing in common: they are, at best, boring speakers or, at worst, utterly uninspiring in general. Both Sebelius and Kaine were Democratic responders to respective Bush States of the Union. Drying paint could have given them a run for their money. Bayh is said to be corrugated cardboard, largely lacking in personality. This is why he didn't run for prez himself.

To my mind this gives the lie to Mr. Romano's assertion that Obama may let any of these three have a hand at giving any weighty prime-time speech on foreign policy. The only people in the crowd who'd thank him are the insomniacs. If this is the criteria that an Obama VP must meet, this takes them all straight out of the running.

There is a dark horse pick that was ot mentioned here. That would be Gen. Wes Clark Sr. His on the mark McCain statements notwithstanding, I think he would be an aweseome pick. The perfect foil and attack dog of s VP the Obama needs.

Interesting to note names missing from that update: notably Kaine, who'd be expected to have a spot somewhere in the convention.

But there's also a very notable foreign policy expert who wasn't mentioned in the story. His name rhymes with Will Wichardson.

I believe everyone has missed the mark with Obama's VP pick. Most likely pick would be Robert Casey from Pa. But the dramatic choice would be Colin Powell. Note Obama's comments that he could select a republican running mate and someone from the military. Colin Powell once had a 84% approval rating when polls ask if he could be elected president. Colin Powell as the VP would be the slam dunk Obama needs to prove that his presidency would reach across party lines. Colin Powell distanced himself from the Bush adminstration by resigning (although he is a distant relative).

I think the last point about McCain choosing a "Presidential" running mate has always been a likely component, given his age. It matters not whether he makes the pledge. Secondly, why would he make the pledge if he did not need to? If he is competitive late in the game, then the pledge at that point might be enough to put him over the top. Why fire a bullet until you need to? If he is way behind it might be a hail mary...if he is slightly ahead, which is not unthinkable give the history of Liberal candidates, there is no need to make such a pledge.

Plus, that gives him time to see how well-received his VP choice is. If it is lacking, then the pledge is a negative. If his VP performs well, is gaffe-free and on message, then the pledge can work, but you will not know until after the convention.

My guess is he goes with Romney or a Wild Card that will shake up the race and peel White Women voters, Sarah Palin or even a Meg Whitman. The fact that McCain might be a one-termer would give independent women the thrill of potentially seeing to gals duke it out in 2012 (Hillary and someone else). They would vote for an opportunity like that. White women will decide this election. If Mac can draw even or slightly ahead among white women, while preserving his strong lead among white men, he wins.

Really? What about the part of the article that specifically mentions that Kaine will NOT be picked. Try reading the entire article next time.

Drmckmac - HA!!! Finally someone who thinks Obama picking Colin Powell would just rock the world! I have heard all the talk about Leslie Clark, and I do really like him, but Colin Powell, oh man that would be the dream ticket!

I also think that would just KILL the GOP, who if they don't manage to raise a quick $10million will be holding their convention in someone's backyard. (*smirk*) Although, that may even prove problematic seeing as how VP Cheney has a speaking engagement and I don't know ANYONE who would knowingly let him in their yard (and I live in GOPland). Of course, Walmart has all those big parking lots... hope springs eternal... any other pithy suggestions for a flat broke GOP with a kickback to throw and no $$$$? BYOB??

If Obama picks anyone but Biden he will have blown his first critical decision as the candidate. Nunn comes w/too much baggage plus learning a lesson from the primaries, if you are away too long, political skills get rusty [see: Bill Clinton, the "ulimate" campaigner"]. Obama cannot afford a #2 who makes mistakes.Reed could be OK but he is nearly as well known outside DC& his home state of very small RI. Biden is the total package...in fact, make it Biden, obama & I'd vote for that ticket!

Even though Sen. Bayh might not be the most inspirational and exciting speaker, Obama IS. Bayh has the national security background, as he is on both the Armed Services and Intelligence committees and has long been a supporter of Israel and a critic of Iran. I could definitely see him being able to speak for "Securing America's Future". Sen. Biden is a career politician and does not represent change at all. Obama prefers Sen. Reed anyway, but he's not interested in the job.

Bayh could help ease the strife from Clinton die-hard supporters, as he supported her in the primary. Bayh was also a very popular governor in Indiana and not only brings executive experience to the ticket, but also could help democrats in races across the entire state, including the races for governor and a few close Congressional races. Bayh could potentially make the state go blue this year, as well.

The votes were just about equal if you include Michigan non committed because his name was not on the ballot.

I think Sen Bayh will be the VP choice...there is no other more qualified, 2 times governor, nice temperament like Obama. He balanced his budget in Indiana and has good ratings on his voting record. He has a great background overall.

First of all, Hillary's history, or is it Hillary's History? Either way, get over it.

Secondly, Bayh is good, but Indiana is too close to Illinois, and, though admittedly it did work for Arkansas Bill & Tennesee Al, traditionally VPs are picked partially - - - if not in some cases entirely (see Truman, Agnew) - - - for regional diversity. Biden is OK, but he doesn't really top out on the electric personality meter. That leaves Caine, 1) an over the top military dude (dude can be a nonsexist term these days, right? I mean if Paris can change the thesauras with her coining of the now forever non-sexist "***," but I digress), plus he's 2) cool (an unusual combination in itself), and 3) he's from Virginia, a battleground state, which, by the way, was the first state to have had a democratically elected Black Governor (do I digress again?). On that note, McCain won't pick Powell because then he'll lose the default redneck vote (who will just stay home on election day drinking Billy Beer) pubilicly acknowledged or endorsed or not, but hey, this is life in the big city we're talking about here, and this town just ain't big enough for both of 'em (sic). Now, back to my nails.

okay, you are doing great with this thinking but you forgot wesley clark. i favor sam nunn or joe biden unless either one of them wants DOD or Dept of State ... then I want Colin Powell for one of those ... all the people can't be VP but there's so much talent out there that the Obama administration can be very sparkly with excellence and depth. so maybe all the people who aren't speaking on the 27th are going to be sitting in meetings with the pres ... or some of them anyway. Personally, as with some others, I think the Clintons need a good long rest at a healthy distance from the white house.

The choice of VP for OBAMA will focus on only what state will benefit him to win the election. I hope McCain chooses the best Man to be a heart beat away. Judging in the recent events, it must someone with gravitas in domestic and foreign spheres. I will pray for whoever McCain chooses. It is strange that russia is exerting its evil tendencies at such a critcal point in history. It should reminds all americans of history's other invasions; Hitler invading/ reclaiming the RUHR(?) in 1938 and the soviets severe quelling of the rebellions in the old Eastern Europe. The World did nothing and people died. Putin is a bully that has to be confronted. May God bless the Georgians!

I think Obama should pick Chuck Todd. He is a paranoid schizophrenic who obsesses over the Clintons. His only job would be to spy on them, or better yet, just make up stories about them, to keep the public at arms length. It would fit Obamas agenda perfectly.
