Yesterday, I posted an item called " Chasing the Mythical 'Obamacan' Masses " in which I wrote that "there's little statistical evidence to support the claim that the number of Republicans who favor this year's Democrat is

re: More on the Mythical 'Obamacan' Masses

At this point I think it is too early to tell whether there is going to be a large Obamacan movement. There are just too many undecideds.

I do think it is strange that Obama would convert traditional Republicans. He has a great appeal in terms of personality, but otherwise, this campaign is pitting a traditional liberal versus a traditional conservative. Most of McCain's policies, in one way or another, advocate a market-based solution; whereas Obama advocates more government involvment. If Obamacans exist, they are embracing an ideology very different from the one they previously espoused.

I don't think that Obamacan's are truly Republicans if they are so easily converted to a liberal mandate for change and embrace a Democrat platform. How can one throw away ones beliefs and values? I for one will stick with my conservative values and ideals. I am not going to convert just to get goose bumps and listen to pretty speeches that make me feel good. Independents blow with the wind, like a reed tossed and turned. If they don't like you today maybe tomorrow they will. A man or woman is nothing without her/his ideals, values and principles. People who change with the wind are nothing more than followers of the next fad. chuck hasker
