Obama doesn't need to be Swiftboated. The truth about him is terrible enough. I am a lifelong Democrat and strong Hillary Clinton supporter, but you couldn't pay me to vote for the inexperienced, ruthless, deceptive, arrogant, divisive, race card throwing, racist black liberation theology believing, fraudulent Obama. By the way, I've read Corsi's book about Obama, and although I may have a quarrel or two with him, the bulk of the book is useful information about Obama; information that Obama is trying desperately to hide from the American public.

Andrew, you say "little" new is in this Book. What, if anything, is new? Does the 40+-page response of the Obama Campaign refite thes few "new "points? I've heard it said that lies, half-truths and exaggerations are effective only if there is an existing narrative or pre-disposition to which such claims gain credence. Barack is so new i.e. (inexperienced and unknown) that assertions pertaining to a time when he was not known can present land-mines.

An equally intriguing question, which no one is yet asking, is whether McCain can be "Swiftboated". We know that he was shot down over Viet Nam and that, before he returned home, he sustained some substantial injuries which continue to plague him. What we do not know is exactly what transpired in North Viet Nam. We have only his account.

We know that he had an opportunity to be released and that, despite the requirements of the pledge he took as a naval officer, he elected to remain with the enemy. Why did he do that in contravention of the very mission he was sworn to uphold? Maybe someone should investigate McCain's wartime record a little more closely.

No it’s not just about misstating Obama’s wedding date, Corsi’s lies include the lie that Obama’s father divorced his mother in accordance with Islamic law, claimed Obama was a Muslim, drags out the old canard about Obama’s birth certificate being forged in spite of the fact that officials in Hawaii have certified it as valid, got simple things wrong like Obama’s mother’s name, claimed Obama’s dedication in his book didn’t include his mother or grandparents (check it out on page 203 of Obama’s book), Obama didn’t mention his sister in his book (its on page 47), claims Obama didn’t mention that after he graduated from Columbia he worked as a community organizer (he mentions it on page 139 of Dreams from My Father), claims Obama published an article in an avowedly socialist magazine (it was written for and published in The Nation), claimed that Obama was in church in Chicago when he was in Florida, lies about Obama having pledged to reduce the size of the military even though Obama has repeatedly said he would increase our ground forces by 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 Marines.

It goes on and on.

After Corsi was dropped from marketing "Unfit for Command" because of his religious bigotry and attacks on the Catholic Church, it was said the he was "too crazy even for Swiftboat liars.”

Apparently they were wrong.

Smear tactics and pandering are the hallmarks of orthodox democracy, where the vote of the most incompetent and most informed are equivalent. If they were not, pandering and smear tactics would not be effective. In addition, just as unleashing the subprime into mortgage markets creates economic meltdown, the equal-vote presence of the marginal in the general population ensures pandering, smear tactics, and other boorish measures to proliferate and ultimately define leadership selection in the US across the board. Until votes are weighed against citizenship status, time in country, criminal record, community service, age, and education, this tyranny will continue and the city, state, and national leadership of the country will remain subprime.

And so it went from there and from Kerrys' own twisted accounts.

So yes..Obama can be Swift Boated, unless he's been up front and complete in his personal biography!

And THAT is the question and bound to be the topic of many books to come!

Living for last 25 years in Chicago land and watching the way politics are done here, I can’t help but to strongly agree with posted above statement of MXYZPTLK . Obama is the inexperienced, fraudulent, ruthless, deceptive, arrogant, divisive, race card throwing, racist black liberation theology follower. After all he stated in his books, that Rev. Wright is his father figure - he can’t deny it, just because it's convenient now.

Although I'm not about to read these books, I believe that there's some truth in them. Americans are not stupid and are capable of making their own judgment. Lets stop the hysteria, and don’t allow mass media to censor what we may read, hear or see.

It’s time to knock Obama's fake aura away.

"Swift Boating?" It occurs to me that the term "Swift Boating" has been used in a manner intended to suggest that the information provided by the Officers who were actually there, is false. I suggest that you are repeating a mantra that has been established by individuals who won't allow the truth to get in the way. Kerry never disproved ANY PART of the Swift Boat crew's information. He couldn't ..plain and simple. John Kerry came home and lied repeatedly before the Congress concerning our servicemen, and should have been given prison time for perjury. In the case of the book "Obama Nation", Neither Obama, or any member of his campaign have refuted any portion of the book. But, you can just have another hissy fit and remain in a state of denial as long as it pleases you. I am not enamored with McCain either, but one has to make a choice. In this case, Obama is not a choice.

BTW, we do not live in a "Democracy" as some people seem to think. We live in a Democratic Republic and there is a huge difference. Educate your self on this, I have learned such things in Civics and other classes and apparently the distinction, or subject , for that matter, never came up in our Government School System in the last few years.

Latino 47 million, Latinos started flooding America after the Civil Rights Movement and after many government programs and affirmative action was put into place. Latinos knew when it was safe to enter the US via the southern-most states. Almost every gain you have can be attributed to African Americans risking their lives and sanity, although with whites who had the courage to stand beside them.

You owe black people nothing, but just like everyone else in this country, you should understand the role of history. Black people have sat here and watch just about every immigrant group come into this country and walk right over them. What the responses of "some"--not all Hispanics-- show is that racism is not just a US phenomenon. It is an American phenomenon. More slaves were taken to Latin America and the Caribbean than were bought here. Many Hispanics like to claim that they are 100% Spaniard, when most are not. Many not at all. What is wrong with being a combination of white, Indian, and African? You can only feel guilty if you are. Yes, it is true that most Hispanics entered this country after the framework for people of color to live dignified lives in this country were already laid. Imagine what the responses to widespread, illegal immigration would have been had it taken place in the early half of the twentieth century? Further, I happen to be one who believes that Mexicans are really immigrants, since Texas and California once were part of Mexico. And you're alienating me. Human conscience exists for a reason.

Moreover, it would be easy to dismiss the book if it only held the accounts of a few witnesses. As I recall, more than 40 witnesses contributed to it.

If he was truly serious about discrediting the book, Kerry would merely need to open his record for scrutiny. I'm not holding my breath.

seti: I appreciate your analysis, but I don't think that it is in any way an argument to vote for Obama. I was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton, and was disgusted at the manner in which I believe the DNC and party elite did everything in their power to assure the nomination of Obama. I have never voted for a Republican candidate for President in my life, but I will be making an exception this November. As for McCain, I don't support him to the same extent that I did Hillary, but I believe that we are, as usual, in a "lesser of the evils" election. I have studied both candidates, including Obama, his position, his associations, and his background extensively, and I simply do not trust him. In my view, Obama lies or twists the truth almost every time I hear him speak (which is very reminiscent of George Bush, for me). His lack of experience is evidenced by the number of times he has made naive statements about government and foreign policy, only to flip-flop to another position when his position is shown to be unpopular. Finally, I have been strongly against racism my whole life, and the fact that he attended a racist black liberation theology church for 20 years, and considered its racist pastor to be his "mentor and spiritual adviser," does not set well with me at all. So, is McCain the candidate I would have preferred? No. But he is in my view a much better choice than Obama.

WOW! I'm simply amazed at how the Republicans and the posters pretending to be Democrats (and Hispanics) are all getting on board the McSwiftboat! Hey, it worked for you in 2004, and ironically in 2000, against McCain in the primaries....so why wouldn't you try it again?

The 2000 & 2004 elections introduced a decidedly new phenomenon to American politics: The Karl Rove Get-Down-Dirty-Nasty-and-Lie-Your-A**-Off approach with absolutely no regard for truth, honor or integrity. The Dems were simply overwhelmed by it.....they simply couldn't imagine that the opposing campaign was capable of sinking so low. Will American politics ever recover? Apparently not yet. Sure, we've always had dirty politics on both sides, but ol' Karl took it beyond the pale. Sadly, oh so sadly, it worked.

Not this time, low-lifes. America's seen your tired act before and its devastating results. I'm counting on the Obama campaign to hit back hot, hard and heavy to blow you right out of the water. I do very much hope that Obama will not lower himself into the despicable Bush-Rove sewer that a once honorable McCain has in order to achieve that. Then again, it may be time for the Democrats to adopt Mr. Rove's tactics: Don't bother debating with your opponent; simply DESTROY him with any and all means available.

MXYZPTLK, I'm surprised that Obama is the nominee, too. But it took much more than black votes to elect Obama. I don't feel at all indebted to any candidate. Want to get factual? Affirmative action, the EEOC, and the US Dept. of Education were all weakened under Clinton. He may have been the better choice at the time, although he was not a perfect choice. Further, I'm, disgusted by the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that he put in place. One of the "lesson' that I'm trying to put across is that we need to avoid alienating potential allies. Unfortunately, I have often gotten the impression the "woman" means white. As a consequence, I don't identify with most white women. For women to be successful, all women have to be accounted for. And I think it's possible for "women" to start reaching out to women of color. Voting with black males is not automatic. Not at all.

What I meant to say earlier, Mexicans are NOT really immigrants,since California and Texas were once a part of Mexico. We need to learn a lesson here: Just as white women can't afford to alienate half the US woman population, Latinos can't afford to alienate African Americans. All support counts--no matter where it comes from. Latino in Illinois support Obama. Perhaps since they are presently part of his constituency, they know him best.

What you will read is shameful. McCain has given the finger to our troops and veterans time and time again. After you've recovered from the shock, then do a search of McCain's voting record on women's issues -- this is of utmost importance to the women voters who feel let down by Hillary Clinton not being nominated. You would be cutting off your nose to spite your face to throw a vote McCain's way just to make a point. I suggest everyone research McCain's voting record on all topics, because what you read will send shivers down your spine. McCain would actually prove to be a worse president than Bush. Yes, Obama claims that his policies are very much like Hillary's, but being the most deceptive politician of my lifetime, how can we know if that's true. Moreover, after all of the recent flip-flops, who can be sure where Obama really stands on any of the issues. The only thing about which I am certain, is that he will do anything, take any position, and jettison anyone, to win this election.

In addition, before you analyze anyone's policies, you must look at their character. Obama has shown, time and again, to be deceptive, ruthless and divisive. If anything, Obama has shown himself to be more dishonest and ruthlessly ambitious than any politician this side of George Bush. The problem I have with Rev. Wright's church, is that Rev. Wright, by his own admission, preaches black liberation theology, which is a very racist theology based upon the conflict between the "black oppressed" and the "white oppressor". That is why, for example, Rev. Wright portrays Jesus as black, and his murderers as “garlic nosed” “white people,” because that is the only way that the story of Jesus will fit with his theology. That is also why so many of his statements are framed as black and white issues (e.g. "rich white people"; “world in need being run by white people's greed”; Natalie Holloway was a "white girl" who "gave it up" on an Aruba beach; “white” America got a wake up call after 9/11; the "garlic nosed" Italians in the time of Jesus who killed the “Black Jesus” were "white people"). Consistently making the point that Jesus was black and his murderers were white is very much like the bigoted fundamentalist Christians who continually make the point that the "Jews killed Jesus." We all know what that is code for; that means that the Jews are evil, as a group, and responsible for the murder of Jesus. Rev. Wright, Obama’s 20 year “mentor and spiritual adviser,” is guilty of the same type of bigoted rhetoric.

MXYZPTLK, I used glassbooth.org when I was confused about the differences between Obama and Clinton. My views more closely matched Obama's, although Clinton was not far behind. You keep referring to Obama as deceptive. You need to start offering genuine evidence. McCain tended to vote more liberally than both Obama and Clinton. For instance, just last year he was for amnesty for illegal immigrants. Now he's against it. Based on his voting record, McCain strikes me as being much more deceptive. He has become a conservative, basically because that's what his party wants, but his views and record are quite liberal.

Russell: I cannot in good conscience, vote for Obama, because I don't believe a word he says. He reminds me very much of George Bush, another politician who I opposed from the start. I'm not crazy about all of McCain's positions, but I don't think he is nearly as deceptive or divisive as Obama.

By the way, all liberation theologies involve an oppressed and an oppressor, and yes, whites have tended to be the oppressors in America. I don't agree with referring to whites as evil. However, if a theology encourages people toward self-determination, i.e. starting their own businesses, building up their neighborhoods and yes, throwing off an oppressor if need be the case, I'm for it. Black liberation has its roots in the church. MLK, Jr was an academic and also a minister. I attend Unitarian church here in Chicago. I don't agree with everything my pastor says, but I do agree with the fundamentals of the religion and the fellowship it gives me. It's no different than a worshipping catholic using birth control.

Obama, in your autobiography, you admit to using marijuana and cocaine in high school and college. Yet you largely support the federal drug war — a change from several years ago when you said you'd be open to decriminalizing marijuana. Would Barack Obama be where he is today if he had been arrested in college for using drugs? Doesn't the fact that you and our current president (who has all but admitted to prior drug use) have risen to such high stature suggest that the worst thing about illicit drugs is not the drugs themselves, but what the government will do to you if you're caught?

Maybe there is another explanation for Barack Obama's trouble with the truth, but I'm not sure what it would be. He did it again, loosing a palpable falsehood on NBC. Not that it's a surprise; Obama coming out with a whopper has become pretty much a daily occurrence. Here is Obama being interviewed by Brian Williams. Williams asks him about the surge, and whether it hasn't been a success. Obama claims that "even at the time of the debate," everyone knew that "of course it's going to have an impact." Here it is:

What is very distressing about so many Obama supporters, is their lack of objectivity about their candidate. It is almost as if they cannot admit to any of his flaws (which are many), because if they do, the whole house of cards will come crashing down. I'm not sure what it is about Obama which engenders such blind adulation from his supporters. I think much of it has to do with the vague "change" and "unity" mantra which has emanated from the Obama camp from the beginning, coupled with his impressive ability to read a teleprompter speech. He and Axelrod have, indeed, mounted a marketing campaign which I'm sure is the envy of Madison Avenue. At any rate, my hope is that as this election proceeds, supporters of all candidates will increasingly make their determinations based upon objective criteria, rather than vague mantras; the ability to deliver a good speech; or even their own desires to "believe" in a fantasy candidate who, sadly, does not exist.

AS USUAL, OBAMA LIES IN ONE OF HIS FIRST GENERAL ELECTION ADS. Obama does seem to be a habitual liar. Even in one of his first general election ads he just can't seem to tell the truth. It is rather pathetic, really. Here is a fact check article on the ad:

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama has now joined the airwaves in Wisconsin with a political ad. In the ad, he claims some legislative victories, but a WISC-TV analysis found he might be taking more credit than he deserves.

For the first part of the ad, Obama discusses his family and values, a blue-collar history and patriotism, all things many pundits believe he needs to emphasize to bring in working-class voters. "That's why I passed laws moving people from welfare to work, cut taxes for working families," he says in the ad. WISC-TV found that needs clarification. Obama cites laws on which he worked in the Illinois General Assembly.

The first is a bill that changed the Illinois public aid code, a welfare-to-work measure on which Obama was a lead sponsor. The second bill created an earned income tax credit in the state of Illinois. Obama was not a lead sponsor on the bill but joined colleagues before the bill's passage.

"And (Obama) extended health care for wounded troops who'd been neglected," the ad says. A WISC-TV analysis found this statement misleading. Obama is talking about the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, which is an overarching bill that authorizes military funding. It was passed by the Senate on Jan. 22, but Obama never voted on it.

Sen. Dick Durbin declared him "necessarily absent." The vote was the same day as the Democratic debate in South Carolina. Obama's campaign said he authored a part of the bill that had to do with medical treatment of veterans, but he missed the vote.

THE LIES KEEP COMING: OBAMA’S NEW GENERAL ELECTION AD IS, AS USUAL, MISLEADING:

Obama's latest ad repeats an often-stated claim, saying he "worked his way through college and Harvard Law." We know Obama took out loans to get himself through school. The only back-up the campaign provided for this claim was a quote from Obama's book "Dreams from My Father" having to do with a construction job he had one summer while he was in college, and an article mentioning his job as a summer associate one year at a big Chicago law firm. We asked campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor if Obama held jobs during the school year, or other summer jobs, but he said only, "He had the two jobs I told you about." Unless Obama had a good bit more employment than his spokesman was able to describe for us, it's a real stretch to claim he "worked his way" through school.

The ad also says he "passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by 80 percent." Actually, the Illinois law was a REQUIRED follow-up to the 1996 federal welfare reform law worked out by President Clinton and the Republican Congress. Welfare rolls did go down by nearly as much as the ad says, but Obama can't claim sole credit. Obama was among five Senate sponsors of the measure. It was passed by both chambers of the Illinois Legislature and signed into law by the governor.

A FEW OF OBAMA’S POSITIONS AS ILLINOIS STATE SENATOR:

(1) In 1999, Barack Obama was the only member of the Illinois State Senate to vote against a bill that prohibited convicted criminal sex abusers from getting early release. The amendment to the "County Jail Good Behavior Allowance Act" provided that a person in a county jail may not receive a good behavior allowance if he is convicted of criminal sexual assault against a minor who is also a family member or if the criminal were to be convicted of criminal sexual abuse or aggravated sexual abuse.

(2) Likewise, Barack Obama refused to support Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan's effort to toughen laws on pedophiles and rapists by revamping the "Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act." The legislation, among other things, required disclosure of mental health records of a person being prosecuted as a sexually violent person. It also beefed up crimes against incarcerated sexual predators by employees of prisons. The legislation, H.B. 2008 (IL 2001) passed 47-1.

(3) Incredibly, Obama opposed four times the Born Alive Infant Protection Act that would have prohibited a baby that was born alive from being left to die, simply because the mother said she wanted the baby to die. This article is old (April) so the figures are probably much greater by now. I figured somewhere over $62,000,000 at that time by multiplying the number of donors according to the article who gave the maximum amount (27,000 donors times $2,300 = $62,100,000). Actually, the amount of money Obama has received from bundlers is probably much higher, because the $62,000,000 does not count any bundled money from donors who gave less than $2,300.

OBAMA’S ALLEGED OPPOSITION TO THE WAR: Although he gave a speech against the war to a very sympathetic audience in 2002, by 2003 when the war was increasingly popular, the speech was off his website. His excuse for this, as told to the Black Commentator Magazine, was that the speech was “dated.” Then, on July 27, 2004, when asked how he would have voted on the war resolution in an interview with the New York Times, he said “I’m not privy to Senate intelligence reports. What would I have done? I don’t know.” Then, he told the Chicago Tribune in July 2004, “There’s not that much difference between my position and George Bush’s position at this stage.” In the same article, he went on to say that he "wouldn't advocate pulling out now, responsibly arguing that the U.S. cannot accept a failure there." The fact of the matter is that although a few legislators were prescient and courageous enough to stand in opposition to the war from the beginning and throughout (for example, Kucinich), Obama was not among them.

According to Barack Obama, Gianna Jessen shouldn't exist.

Miss Jessen is an exquisite example of what antiabortion advocates call a "survivor." Well into her third trimester of pregnancy, Gianna's biological mother was injected with a saline solution intended to induce a chemical abortion at a Los Angeles County abortion center. Eighteen hours later, and precious minutes before the abortionist's arrival, Gianna emerged. Premature and with severe injuries that resulted in cerebral palsy. But alive.

Had the abortionist been present at her birth, Gianna would have been killed, perhaps by suffocation. As it was, a startled nurse called an ambulance, and Gianna was rushed to a nearby hospital, where, weighing just two pounds, she was placed in an incubator, then, months later, in foster care.

Gianna survived then, and thrives now, because, as she told me recently with a laugh, "I guess I don't die easy." Which is what the abortionist might have thought as he signed his victim's birth certificate. Gianna's medical records state that she was "born during saline abortion."

As an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama twice opposed legislation to define as "persons" babies who survive late-term abortions. Babies like Gianna. Mr. Obama said in a speech on the Illinois Senate floor that he could not accept that babies wholly emerged from their mother's wombs are "persons," and thus deserving of equal protection under the Constitution's 14th Amendment.

A federal version on the same legislation passed the Senate unanimously and with the support of all but 15 members of the House. Gianna was present when President Bush signed the Born Alive Infants Protection Act in 2002.

When I asked Gianna to reflect on Mr. Obama's candidacy, she paused, then said, "I really hope the American people will have their eyes wide open and choose to be discerning. . . . He is extreme, extreme, extreme."

Now there's a REAL rabbit out of a hat: "He (Obama) reminds me very much of George Bush". One doesn't have to be a mind reader to recognize the incredibly twisted logic required to arrive at THAT connection.

You've clearly illustrated a classic move right out of Karl Rove's playbook: Attack the opponent's strength. It's very likely that Obama's most effective tactic will be to identify (rightly) John McCain with George Bush. No matter how absurd, the 'Boaters will even try to identify Obama with GWB to counter this critical vulnerability of McCain's. How utterly ironic that they would use a negative identification with the guy they once touted as America's savior. Okay, 'Boaters, never mind the logic: ATTACK! Don't stop to defend your position: ATTACK! No matter how absurd your argument: ATTACK! With no regard for the truth: ATTACK! With every statement you make: ATTACK!

We shouldn't expect any change to that scenario. Like it or not, it's the only chance McCain has. Taking on Bush's campaign manager as his own reflects as much. Republicans may agree that such tactics are acceptable and viable as a means to an end, but the good ones I know will feel sick about doing so.

So attack away, Swift-'Boaters, and let's see if it actually works come November.

Remember last spring when Obama refused federally funded campaign funding. Every body had a hizzy fit. Now we know the reason. Obama cannot depend on so-called "mainstream" media to get the story straight. We have evidence that when when Corsi's book was released a number of right-wing organizations bought the book in bulk to put it on the best seller list.

The current Swift Boat attack is really a reflection of Jhn McCain. He relies on the same tactics of smear and fear that Bush relied on. (as well as rigging elections.) Since 2001, we have witnessed an endless spectacle if lies, cover-up and osbstrauction of justice, resulting in the war in Iraq (The media was complicit in this lie), the outing of a CIA agent (a criminal act, but no one's been punished), a record corporate crime wave, and Karl Rove's recent contempt of Congress citation. Because McCain engages in the same fear and smear tactics, we will have same-old administration of lies and cover-ups, perpetrated by the same players.

McCain can plead innocent all he wants to, but he is responsible. As the head of the Republican party, he could have set a different tone for the election. He did not If we really love this country - do NOT vote Republican

I hope for this nation that we will have a democrat in office. Our country cannot handle a Republican this time around. McSame has the same agenda as Bush and has not made any effort to prove otherwise. Obama speaks for all of us that it is time for a change and if McSame wins nothing will change. Our country is already laughed at and is falling more and more into debt. The Republicans are for the rich. They want the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. The proof lies with the DHL deal that McSame and his campaign manager helped get passed. Now more American people are going to lose their jobs. He is also running his election the same way Bush did in 2004. Trying to make Obama out to be Muslim like its a crime against American humanity... who really cares about his religious beliefs. What did McCain do Vietnam prison? Why won't all his record in the military be showen. What part did he play on the Forrestital Carrier disaster.200 + dead? Saw it on the Histrory channel been touch up.now. How many plane did he lose and why so many. Did he do a Tokyo Rose in Vietnam?Did Russian Doctors give him spiecal treatment,because of his father?I don't see the military whooping it up behind him. They seem to tolerate him.Idon't trust Him plain and simple. Even some Republicans have made remarks of him.His corruption past doe not help. So all that lipstick on this elephant won't fly with the america people.

Painting McCain as a blood-sucking-gray-haired-old-man (oil sucker), who is bent on sucking America dry today and leaving nothing for the children, is not going negative. The reality is clear, McCain prides himself and goes for the jugular with his insatiable appetite for sucking every inch of the land. Obama in return, should not do the me-too equalizing tactics.

He needs to run two Willy-Horton style adds:

1) A futuristic add, with a pack of soccer-moms and little babies stranded because a caricature of McCain, yesteryear, sucked all the oil and left America barren.

2) Assemble all his war-mongering clips and run it, time-after-time. This, to remind the America that the gray-haired-old-man, cares not about tomorrow and will be more reckless than George Bush, in leading us into Iran. That's the DANGER FACTOR.

Obama should dump all his placebo advertisements and run these two. I guarantee him the election, if he heed my advise.

The article states that "swiftboating Kerry was based on the fact that Kerry's fellow officers believed him unfit to be commander-in-chief. Obama is being swiftboated by voters. Even before Corsi's book was published, polls were reflecting uneasiness about electing somenone not fit to be commander in chief. for the last 2 months in every magazine or newspapers what I been reading is that Obama is not getting the ##'s, he has not been able to close the deal. Don't blame the book. At this point in history, USA is too fragile to elect somenone who will get trained in the job. Obama is a good speaker, likable, intelligent but realistically he is not ready for the position. The DNC, Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Healy, Dean, Read, are going to be responsible of losing an election which was theirs to win.

Can Obama Be Swiftboated??? Yea! If he ever served in the military -- especially during wartime. Then and only then, he can be swiftboated. Assuming he was in the military during wartime; he would then have to appear before congress and trash his fellow brother-in-arms as well as overstate his heroism later-on... well after throwing his medals away. Then he would definately be 'Swiftboated'. But then again, that would never happen... he never served his country.

John McCain stood up for John Kerry when he was under attack from the Swiftboat veterans. Few people remember that. I speculate that the majority of those of us who served in Vietnam wouldn't spend much time dissecting the credibility of the awards that Senator Kerry received because we weren't there with him and we as a group tend to honor each other's service - given the manner in which the people who served in the war were treated afterwards. What cannot be forgiven, however, is the immature spectacle that occurred when Kerry threw his medals over a fence or when he appeared before Congress and attempted to speak truth to power using nothing of substance - just things that he heard in the rumor mill. Behavioral psychologists say that if something is repeated often enough it can become a fact in the minds of the participants. Kerry had no proof or eye witness accounts of the "atrocities" that he relayed to Congress with such authority and dramatic effect. Years later we learned that he really didn't throw the medals away - they were prominantly displayed in his office. Kerry could have won that election if he had listened to John McCain's advice and downplayed his service like most of us still do - and the Swiftboat ads would have had less effect. In like manner, it is tedious to see Clinton and Biden turn on McCain like rabid wolves, after both of them have praised McCain for this bipartisan record and ability to lead when they were going after each other in the debates. There is nothing new under the sun.
