If she had any leadership ability at all she would have led her son to decide on a college education and ROTC before becoming cannon fodder. And what about those poor teenage girls stuck raising the baby while Mom plays politician? She is a CONSERVATIVE?? Most conservatives I know believe you are supposed to care for your own children!!

Excuse me Reinadelz, but are you implying that a woman can't be a good mother and work at the same time?!! What about the millions of women in America who do just that everyday, you sexist idiot. Palin is perfectly capable of taking care of her children while she "plays" politician (in fact, she has successfully been doing so since she was in her early 20s!!!!). She probably handles it better than any male politician with just as many kids!

Oh and doesn't she have a husband? Isn't HE in charge of taking care of the kids too? Why do you just assume it'll be her daughters who do so?! You couldn't possibly be more delusional. Wake up to the 21st century.

Funny...I doubt you would characterize Obama in a similar fashion. Doesn't he also have two young daughters at home? Who's going to take care of them while he's off "playing" President? Or is it because since he's a man, he's not playing at anything. He's pursuing a noble goal worth even more than his daughters' happiness. But Palin on the other hand, oh no, she's not trying to make her state and country a better place to live in, She's just in la-la land.

Oh and your comment about her son becoming cannon fodder...way to be an elitist dolt. It's people like you who are going to cost Obama the election.

Obama picked extremely well with his VP, not only balancing out his inexperience for one of the most experienced politicians in the country and arguably the to expert in foreign policy, but also provided a VP that can readily take over the presidency. McCain, on the other hand, seems to have solely picked his VP for the election without thought for how she could practically contribut to a McCain administration by taking over the presidency or balance out his weak spot - economics. Picking a woman was a smart political choice, but he should have put further thought into her ability to contribute after the election. There are several more qualified conservative women with more applicable experience; Rice comes to mind. A black woman with foreign policy experience, you couldn't beat that with a stick.

Second, McCain has shot himself in the foot. He can no longer honestly use (not that it will stop him) his biggest gun against Obama: experience. She has 2 years of experience! No one gives a flip about city council and mayor positions, that's small fry. His campaign has blithered that it's "executive" experience, so somehow her 2 years of "executive" experience trumps Obama's 3 years as a senator. That debate is old, which makes a better president, a senator or a govenor. We've had great and horrible senator presidents, we've had great and horrible govenor presidents, so that's pretty much a moot point. Obama has balanced out his lack of experience with Biden, and McCain has chosen an extremely green VP, so he just took some of the bullets out of his gun.

Unfortunately, as you say none of these points will probably matter in the actual race. Few Americans really think deeply about these things, they vote by knee jerk reactions. Maybe those swing voters will think twice, though, about the judgment of picking a VP solely for the extra votes she may squeeze out and not for how she will actually contribute to the administration.

So if McCain was hoping for solidarity by picking someone from the furthest west you can poosibly get, he struck out on that one too.

What about the millions of women in America who do just that everyday, you sexist idiot." I agree this person sounds sexist but you have to admit the vice presidency of the United States is light years away from your average job. And given McCain's age and past health issues, she could well become President some day. Yes, she does have a husband but he definitely doesn't seem to be the stay-at-home dad type. As far as being delusional, most husbands (even in the 21st century) don't carry nearly as much weight as they should on the domestic front. Having a baby with Down's Syndrome provides even more of a challenge. I had a DS child when I was a young stay-at-home mom - caring for her was a full time job because of her health issues and daily therapy requirements. I'm sure she has lots of paid support at home but you have to admit it would not be easy to be VP. Her status as a woman/parent/wife has nothing to do with whether or not I would vote for her (I would not) but you have to be realistic about the challenges someone in her position would face. Also, I wonder how the right wing, family values, Dr. Laura loving crowd can support her without be hypocritical. How can you condemn your average working woman for "abandoning' their roles as wife/mother yet support her?

He said he would chose a vice president whom he knew well and could work in partnership with. His presdiential back-up is a young mother with a large family including a disabled child (yes, women with disabled children are in the workforce all over the country -- but they're not dealing with the security of the world). She has no foreign policy experience, no travel experience, no experience dealing with heads of state, no experience with national issues -- and she has a little difficultry with the truth (did she or didn't she support the Bridge to Nowhere?). Moreover, McCain's had exactly two brief meetings with her and has no idea if he can work with her -- or indeed, if he even plans to work with her.

The biggest mistake McCain made is supposing that all women are interchangable. If women voters are disappointed that Hillary Cinton wasn't nominated for president, why just shuffle in another person wtih a set of ovaries to be veep. Never mind that Palin supports none of the programs that Hillary Clinton supports, that she is a ideaology extremeist who thinks she can foist her religious views on the rest of the country, and that she has called Hillary Clinton a "whiner."

But I'm happy. The more boneheaded moves McCain makes, the happier I am. For governing, Romney would have made a stronger choice -- but two multi-mansioned billionaires on one ticket would be a public relations nightmare.

And McCain fell for it.

It reminds me of the hypnotist (Hillary)

who tries to entrance a viewer (Loyal Democrats & Leaning Independent/Republican voters)

becomes stuck on the stop watch ,

and ends up being the Duck.

But remember, Palin kills animals with helicopters.

Now I know that Obama will get my vote!!!

As to the Dems who are concerned with the "what if" she becomes president with less experience - I am sure she will follow the Obama-I-have-no-experience lead and pick a VP with experience.

re: Three More Thoughts on Palin

mariet,

While I respect your opinion, you have to admit that had this been Obama (or any male candidate) with a young infant with down syndrome, NO ONE would be questioning whether he could handle both roles. I know other mothers with disabled children who have continued to work as well. It all depends on the person, and it seems that Palin will be able to handle it fine. Even if McCain doesn't win the presidency, Palin will continue as governor, so it doesn't look like she'll be becoming a stay at home mom anytime soon anyway.

Furthermore, if Palin does make it all the way to VP, her husband won't be able to work at BP anymore (just like other candidates' spouses). He'll have all the time in world to take care of Trig.

In these most uncertain times with American lives at stake- both here and abroad, doesn’t this country deserve better than someone who is beginning the learning process with our Nations Security??? Will the master (ok I see the resemblance too - but don't forget Yoda was very wise - major difference) allow Polin to look up from McCain's feet to here him utter Czechoslovakia and point out Iran’s borders or will Liebermann be there to help educate?

If MOST doctors think he will be around- what are the other Doctors saying?

So what gamble is Senator McCain willing to RISK with America’s Nation Security?

How great are the chances that he will indeed be around to tutor his eager admittedly novice pupil?

90%? - 80% ? They do have statistics for life expectancy for cancer survivors and POW’s - I wouldn’t buy slow yield funds if I were him.

The 'Maverick' does like to gamble and however good the odds might seem, risking National Security willingly and for ANY length of time- is irresponsible, reckless and speaks volumes to McCain’s total lack of judgment. With hypocrisy so thick you need a chain saw!!

To even remotely suggest that Palin was the best person to entrust at a moments notice is just asinine. Clearly McCain puts Potential political gain ahead of even National Security- I have come to the conclusion (albeit grudging) that he is as unfit to be POTUS as his reckless and pandering self described soccer mom VP selection.

This will be a big nail in then proverbial coffin and an embarrassment from a party that could have made much better option for conservatives in this country. Obviously the GOP has to hit rock bottom before it can rise back up.

He'll call the purpose un-lawfull by mis-enumeration of the gun type. (The Clinton trick! And integral part of the Americans Suck First campaign!).).

Obama! without your podium way up on your blue Hollywood teepee above the rest of us americans your middle name is MUD!

Americans are fantastic people! America a fine nation!

Re. the ‘dirty old man’ remark, to quote Senator McCain, ‘you have to have a sense of humor’ and ‘it was only a joke’ in referring to his obvious preference for good looks over experience for his VP. Yet the rest stated is very serious and considering his personal status, the question are they really asking us to vote for Palin for President is simply a valid and real concern.

IS A GREAT ONE THIS WOMAN IS MORE LIKE YOU AND I! SHE IS NOT A WASHINGTON INSIDER AND I BELIEVE SHE WILL DO A GOOD JOB IF ELECTED! I STRONGLY FEEL IF GIVEN THE CHANCE SHE WILL TAKE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND PUT THEM FIRST! BECAUSE SHE IS UNADULTERATED BY THE POLITICANS OR LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON. I THINK SHE WILL DO WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT! AND IF GIVEN THE CHANCE SHE WILL BE AMERICA'S CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012! SHE IS SMART AND WILLING TO GO TO TASK AS YOU CAN SEE FROM HER RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THE LAST 16 YRS WHICH IS FAR MORE THAT BARACK OBAMA’S! TO SAY THAT PALIN IS NOT READY IF JOHN McCAIN'S HEALTH IS FAILING IS WRONG! SHE HAS MORE EXCUTIVE EXPERIANCE THAN OBAMA; SHE RAN A TOWN AND A STATE. ALBEIT FOR A SHORT TIME AS GOVENOR! BUT IT IS A LARGE STATE THAT IS JUST A (HEARTBEAT) AWAY FROM RUSSIA! AND SHE HAS DONE VERY GOOD THERE. IF OBAMA IS ELECTED THEN WE ARE PUTTING SOMEONE IN OFFICE THAT HAS NEVER EVEN RAN A SMALL CITY, HELL HE'S NEVER EVEN RAN A BUSINESS... HE IS THE ONE WE SHOULD BE SCARED OF NOT PALIN! AFTER ALL OBAMA NEEDED A VACATION FROM HIS CAMPAGIN.NOT McCAIN HE'S 72 AND RUNNING STRONG AND OBAMA NEEDED A REST, PLUS IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT ALL OBAMA DOES IS GIVE SPEECHS! HE HAS BEEN SCARED TO DEBATE McCAIN IN THE ELECTION RUN SO FAR ...TOO BAD HE' GOING TO BE FORCED TO DO IT NOW! FINALLY WE WILL SEE HIM STAMMER AND FAIL IN THE PUBLIC SPOTLIGHT. BECAUSE HE WILL HAVE NO TELEPROMPTER TO SHOW HIM WHAT TO SAY! AMERICA WILL SEE WHAT AN EMPTY SUIT HE IS AND HOW HE IS A LEFTIST LIBERAL WITH MARXIST TENDANCIES! HE IS OWNED BY THE MOVE-ON .ORG CROWD AND THE LIBERAL MEDIA! IF WERE NOT CAREFUL OUR RIGHTS WILL BE SLOWLY TAKEN AWAY! AND WE WILL BE STUCK IN A SOCIALIZED SETTING BORDERING COMMUNISM! HE IS A CONSTITUTION LAWYER SO HE KNOWS HOW TO MANIPULATE THE CONSTITUTION! AND IF ANYONE CARES TO DO RESEARCH ON HIM THEY WILL FIND OUT ABOUT ALL THE ANTI AMERICAN FREINDS THIS CANIDATE HAS! AND THAT SHOULD BE A GOOD ENOUGH REASON NOT TO ELECT HIM!

Look at the best comparison in modern times, Franklin Roosevelt’s vice-presidential candidate Harry Truman. Absolutely no prior foreign policy experience, but when Roosevelt died, he stepped in and made some of the major foreign policy decisions in our nations history, including clearly seeing the threat that Russia posed for us, and effectively countering it with the strategic underpinnings of containing her through the cold war buildup.

She is involved in an Abuse of Power investigation in Alaska and her personal narrative is part fiction. Obama may be a little short

on executive experience but he sure is long on good judgement. And he comes with plenty of solid references.---Republicans and Democratic.

Just Asking...the so called abuse of power stemmed from the brother-in-law Wooten showing very, very poor judgement in actually shooting his 10 yr old step son with a TASER for God sake! The State Police and the CPS should have dealt with this a$$hole long before Palin and her husband did. Wooten also threatened the Palin's mother with deadly force. Wootin should have been off the force!

Georgeof GreensboroNC-I don't know where you got that Palin kills animals with helicoptors but even if it were true (what does she land on top of the animals to kill them w/a helicopter?) it pales in comparison to Obamas stand on PRO-INFANTICIDE! BTW- the Palins do hunt but the meat is for thier family for food, it is not just sport. Try getting informed next time.

To Vakosh- you are absolutely right that this is not an abortion year election. It's an INFANTICIDE election! What's next on Obama agenda...EUTHANASIA of babies born with defects, the elderly the medically very challenged , the mentally ill or disabled?

To Caleb Murdock who said Palin doesn't have the right image to be POTUS...you are as dumb as the Obama crowd who have posted that they are going to vote for Obama because he is "hot". You all should call yourselves AIRHEADS for OBAMA. Grow up before you try to vote, please!

To Reinadelaz...as several here have pointed out, you too are an airhead. Did you really miss the big guy next to Palin...Mr. Palin, her husband who seems as capable of caring for ALL the kids as Gov. Palin? Read Tesha's post to you again and again until you get it. You win runner up in the most sexist behind NewsweekDickG..

To NewsweekDickG...I posted to you on another article here on stumper about your dumb a$$ comment about McCain being a dirty old man...Obama kissed Bidens wife ON THE LIPS on NATIONAL TV! Obama is so ignorant of business protocol or he would have known that the proper thing to do would be to SHAKE HER HAND out of respect for her being a married woman and him being a married man. Good grief, if Obama is this uncouth, what will happen when he goes to chit chat with the head of Iran....is he going to kiss the wives of the head of Iran on the mouths too?

To Drunk Philosopher...while you were on a binge Rice stated that she wouldn't be anyones running mate because she want to retire, write a book and watch football. You didn't include any other suggestions for women so you must not think their are too many out there qualified. Palin's experience running a state exceed Obama in sitting on committees and voting "Present" more than "Aye" or "nay " in the legislature which "runs" nothing. He didn't even write the laws he claimed to have. Palin's experienc is measurable and her lowest approval rating was 76% and her highest was 90% , Not too shabby if you ask me. Obama by his own admission said his community work changed little in the end. And if I had to rate him on his legislative work I would give him a big fat ZERO for voting in favor of INFANTICIDE!

Sarah palin’s 17y/o daughter is pregnant but so is 2 million other unmarried teens in America! But because its Mrs. Palin’s kid that makes her a bad parent or not in touch with her children…. I guess all the other parents of the other 2 million are bad as well! But wait her husband got a d.u.i. 22 yrs ago and had an accident that caused some property damage so he’s an awful person according to the liberal democrats! It makes no difference that Joe biden is a long time big government spender all the while he claims to be a regular guy! He says I ride Amtrak everyday to work and home he fails to mention that that Amtrak ride costs 97 dollars a day! That’s about the amount of money that 25% Americans make day (they are the low income earners but before taxes they are considered middle class according to the government which is a bunch of bull in my opinion that’s at poverty level!) and he spends it on Amtrak yeah he a regular Joe! And barrack Obama well he’s no angel either he’s got some pretty bad bill’s hidden in his closet not to mention his admitted marijuana and cocaine use years ago but lets not talk about that says the liberal media lets talk about mr.palin’s d.u.i. Or the 17 y/o’s pregnancy this liberal bias in the media is getting a little aggravating but I think that the American people will see that this whole thing is leaning to far left and it will back fire in obama’s face costing him the chance at being the leader of the free world! It’s a shame that our election process has come to this!
