What worries me most about McCain/Palin ticket is their environmental policy (especially regarding drilling in the ANWR). I think it is evermore important for us, as consumers to support 'green businesses' that benefit the environment. The message from the Democratic Party was very disappointing to me. When Clinton was not even vetted for the vice-presidency and her campaign was virtually savaged in the media, I could only conclude that there is no place for a woman at the top of that party. I had hoped that Sarah Palin would fare better, [she hasn't even started yet] but there is no doubt she will also suffer the same fate as Clinton, if the media is so ready to attack and tear down. The Southern style and wit is very attractive for several reasons and any Yankee need never be ashamed of observing and admiring it.

I think those who think Sarah Palin is experienced enough to take over the presidency is delusional. She hasn't been vetted by her own hometown newspaper because they don't have an online website and nobody from McCain's camp has even called them for an interview! McCain has only spoken to her ONCE in six months. How exactly was she vetted?

This is just another one of McCain's extreme lack of judgment. By choosing Palin as his VP he is willing to put his own political agendas ahead of this nations. I find it utterly deplorable that the conservative views are nothing more than what we've seen for the last eight years----nothing but ignorance and hypocrisy.

It's also unfortunate that these bloggers see nothing wrong with electing a president who is so anti woman. Sorry McCain, but just because you've chosen a female sidekick does not mean you're pro female. Your legislative records proves anything but. Or can't you remember how you voted? What about our veterans? Why did you receive an "F" from the veterans groups across america? These are supposed to be your comrades-------not your enemies. You give the oil companies bigger breaks than you do to the veterans across america. Do you not find this absolutely insane??? Or are you??

When a fellow POW, and navy man who has served this great nation with respect , dignity and class says that you're better off remaining a senator and not going after the presidency, you should heed his advice. This tells me that you are self-serving to your own agenda and not that of the United States of America and our allies across the world. In the past couple of years Sarah Palin has, among other things, gotten herself elected Governor of her state, faught and defeated widespread corruption, including and especially in her own party, secured legislation for a 7,200-mile natural gas pipeline to help improve our energy independence, renegotiated the terms of the oil companies drilling in Alaska to ensure better utilization of those resources, and cut enormous waste from her state budget. She is a hero to Alaskans with around 80% approval.

What has Barack Obama done in his lifetime? He has spent most of his short time in the Senate campaigning. What has Biden done in his past 36 years in the Senate but bloviate like he wants to have a mirror to smile at?

The notion that Sarah Palin has a thin resume is a lie only given weight by its constant presumptive repetition and ignoring any details.

The base is fired up, but it's only day 2, and there's a pregnant daughter, the candidate has hired a lawyer, national reporters are descending on Alaska and are beginning to DIG. People are wondering about McCain and are willing to give Palin a pass. They see her as a pimmick he's trying to pull off on the American people. Tomorrow the heavyweights of the press corp return from the Gulf and the relative free ride the duo have gotten may be over.

Mary E. Martin: Hillary Clinton did not want to be vetted. She wanted guarantee that she would be the 'chosen' one----but----and that's a BIG but. The Clinton's chose not to disclose their complete 2007 tax returns, not the partial they put on the website, but the complete return. They also did not want to disclose the list of donors to the William Jefferson Clinton Library or the Presidential Library in Arkansas. They've also chosen to not divulge Hillary's records as First Lady. Contrary to the malicious emails, Senator Obama is not surrounding his goal to win the presidency surrounded by a ton of secrecy. This was entirely the Clinton's decision not to be vetted and reasons of their own to be kept underwraps. They are also involved in a lawsuit for campaign fraud regarding Hillary's 2000 Senator campaign which is slated to begin in Nov.

These are all facts that can be found on any legitimate website. My gut feeling is people just do not want to know the facts because it's easier to slander the opposition because he's a blackman. And we all know that black men can not be trusted----correct?!?

Truman was a first term Senator of Missouri in 1940. In 1940, according to the Census, the population was 3,025,000 people. That's about 4 and a 1/2 times bigger than the current population of Alaska.

Dismissing at the moment the real military command that Truman had in France during World War I and his many years of experience as a judge, Truman had a zillion times more experience than Sarah Palin.

We need to learn history so that we are not "tricked" into a false comparison.

Well, I am a mom with a special needs child (autistic son), and I do judge candidates on their parenting decisions. If you can't put your child first, you can't put the nation first.

Gov. Palin and her husband need to get home and take care of their baby. The amount of time you give your special needs child as an infant and toddler and preschooler can determine how far that child goes in life. No parent, dad or mom, of a special needs infant should be running about the country on a presidential campaign.

I've been undecided about the presidency, until now. Senator McCain is showing terrible judgment. Gov. Palin and her husband are showing terrible judgment. I'm voting Obama/Biden.

Think of all the ultimately qualified women with experience in running complex systems who would have made the grade. In 2007, Alaska had one of the nation's highest unemployment rates, was listed by the FBI as having the 7th highest rate of violent crime, ranked as one of the 5 worst states in the number of homeless, and also had one the nation's highest rates of infant mortality. Sounds to me like what little experience Palin does have has not translated into much success for the people of Alaska.

BTW, Concerned Canadian, I got the chain email you are using as your own "material" months ago. People can read. People do understand. People know garbage when they see it, even if it is plagiarized, untrue, and fully debunked BS. Worry about your own country. We've already got plenty of right-wing nutjobs here. I'm a woman, and I will freely say what reporters and analysts will be unable to say (unless they want to be seen as sexist gossip mongers): Sarah Palin has five children. One child is five months old with Downs Syndrome. Another child is 17 and soon to become a mother herself. Sarah Palin opted to accept this nomination and thrust her unwitting daughter into the limelight.

Instead of staging photo-ops at target practice as a poster child for the NRA and instead of traveling across the country to campaign for VP, Sarah Palin should make time for her family. And I would say the exact same thing if Gov. Palin was named SAUL Palin.

Responsibility doesn't vary based on gender.

It amazes me that people are so short-sighted.

Has it occurred to NO ONE that Palin and her daughter DISCUSSED this? If the daughter has the same grit as the mother, she may have been the one pleading with her mother to please take the job, and not let their personal situation get in the way of the greater good.

And OF COURSE McCain knew of this ahead of time. Palin was vetted by the FBI and it was an open secret in their hometown. Do some research.

Finally, it is also amazing to me how so many liberals DO NOT understand "family values." It doesn't mean no birth control. It doesn't mean never making mistakes. It means that if you make a decision, you take responsibility for it. In this case, Bristol got pregnant and she's having the baby. THAT is EXACTLY a pro-family values decision. What, if you're pro-family values, you're not allowed to ever make mistakes again? Please.

It's almost like people are saying if someone gets pregnant and gets an abortion, that's a positive mark on your record, but if someone gets pregnant and keeps the baby, that's a punishment. Oops. I may have inadvertently quoted Obama.

I have to believe, behind closed doors, when they are absolutely sure no one is listening, the majority of the GOP leadership has to be saying - WTF?

Sure, they will try to put lipstick on the pig in public, but in the back of their minds, they have to be saying this is a disaster.

AskPlus. Isn't Michelle Obama a working mother? I'm sure both of these women have made more than adequate arrangements for their children's care. For you to suggest otherwise without knowing any details of their lives is in a word assinine.

SZigZag. If you don't think Michelle Obama is not going to be an overly active first lady, you're nuts. Her children are going to live in the same house as her, just as Palin's are going to live with her. They will both need adequate child care. I've heard Palin blistered for having a down's syndrome baby, for not staying home with her children, for letting her 17 year old get pregnant, ad nauseum. All of that is personal stuff and should be off limits, If there was any decency left among the democrats since they have been taken over by the move on gang, it;s not showing. No, I am not a republican and no, I'm not voting for Obama.

Fred Thompson is not a talented actor; he has presence. He has no range and plays the same guy in every movie from Hunt for Red October to White Sands to Law and Order. As an actor I had to say something about that. : )
