McCain's first executive decision was a bad one. Palin defends abstinence only sex education because of ideological principles. Even in the face of the fact that it (as well as her own, within the family education) failed to prevent the pregnancy of her own daughter, she still argues ideology instead of facts.

We've had two terms of an anti-fact, anti-science, ideological administration. We can't afford another.

Palin's replacement for Monegan, Chuck Kopp, was forced to resign just two weeks after he was appointed because of a sexual harassment complaint that had been filed against him when he was the chief of police in Kenai.

Palin, in a news conference announcing Kopp's resignation July 24, said she was unaware that the Kenai city council had reprimanded Kopp as a result of the complaint and would not discuss how her staff had vetted Kopp before naming him to replace Monegan three days after Monegan was fired.

I'm sure McCain $hit a brick a couple days ago when he found out that Palin used to belong to an anti-American (some would say TRAITOROUS) group called the AIP, that wanted Alaskans to vote on having Alaska secede from the union. Hhmmm.. A separatist America-hater for VP. Strong work, McCain, this is what happens when you shoot first and aim later!

If McCain did properly vet Palin then it just shows his poor judgement. How could he choose her with all these problems. I was going for McCain and at first I was really excited to see him choose Palin but I've changed my mind and I think its a scary idea to have her as VP.

Also, I know Obama doesn't have alot of experience but many voters got him to where he is right now. Palin got to where she is based on one persons decision...McCain's. That doesn't fly for me. Unless he does something substantially wrong by Nov 4th, I'm voting Obama.

Something doesn't add up about this story. If McCain had truly vetted Palin as

thoroughly as he claims, then why did his campaign wait until Monday, the first

day of his convention to roll out the story of the daughter? I know, I know, I've heard

the rationale that it was because of bloggers, but this doesn't add up. We had three

days of Palin rollout from Friday to Sunday with no revelations beyond the trivial

details the McCain campaign spoon fed us. Then comes Monday and the other shoe is dropped.

The evidence indicates that Sen. McCain didn't know about this, no more than any of us did, thus

raising questions about what the Senator actually knew about this candidate prior to choosing her.

Come on, do we really believe that he would have gone ahead with the choice if he knew all along?

So, when he grandly named Ms Palin as his VP selection on Friday, McCain did know about the investigation regarding the ex-state policeman/brother-in-law, the unwed teen pregnancy, the tens of millions of dollars of federal monies to the municipality of under 10,000, and the other matters that have come out in the past few days, but chose not to inform the public? Was that an oversight, bad judgment, or an attempt at deception? Anyway you look at it, not what we should want from a President.

"Country First" huh? McCain, you just lost the election. Just because your adviser is Karl Rove's protege doesn't mean you should have let him choose your VP for you. If you hadn't panicked after the DNC went so well, you might not have picked someone who you didn't realize was a member of a separatist party.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, the American people are not as stupid as they think. When you make your #2 pick based on nothing whatsoever except that she might pull some right-wing votes, it comes back to bite you.

Do any of these gals ever dance from a pole?...maybe a lap-dance for a vote?....and will they show us their tattoos?....I have a hard time taking this gal seriously..let’s see, we could have had a seasoned statesman like Gates, or Lieberman or a Baker Scholar like Romney, and now we have the reality show drama from where?....with no relevant work experience...I will take a lap dance, but this dynamic does not get my vote…maybe John just did this to balance the far right for this convention, and after the convention, she drops and then in come Joe or Mitt whom we need, or as boring as he is, Gates is a real deal…that too would have been a surprise, a real worker for a change…

Hogwash, He knew too late. Now he has to spin it as IF he knew. He has to deal with the hand he has been dealt. Once he told Palin, he could not take it back, the word would leak out that he told her she had the VP spot but took in away after he found out Palin's daughter was pregnant. That would go over big with the women he wants to win over. No, he could not run from it, if he wanted too. McCain would rather cross the entire Republican party than to cross Palin now.

I feel that after the DNC conventtion, he wanted to one up the Democrats, media wise but not convention wise. Convention wise he want to one down the situation and spin. Unfortunately for him, his lobbyist are not coming for the ride because no matter what he says, there is no way the Dems are going to upstage them. They won't respect HIS wishes. That's what happens when lobbyist hold the purse strings.

I will continue to say on everyboard until people listen. McCain, Palin will win in Nov. Obama simply will loose most debates going forward. He lost the first debate so badly it was a one sided debate. When he starts to loose those debates the press will turn on him to save face. at that point his rediculous statements will come to light and he will loose the race. This is not just my opinoin it is simply put fact. Even If Obama could win he woul make Bush look like the best president in history. Or maybe you think he actually can do things like eliminate the use of oil in 10 years. do any of the Obama backers even think. That would take a complete replacement of every car in the US in 10 years. Man and I thought the economy was supposssed to be bad but apparently all the democrats think americans can afford to go out and buy a new car so the economy must be fantastic.

Because finding flaws in the Logic of the Obama Camp is so easy here is another. It will make no difference in the end the Palins daughter is pregnant. The only way this would make a difference is if the millions of parents out there are willing to say they are bad parents because there young daughters also got pregnant. This makes her human and that is the light that will be shead on her going forward. She make mistakes and learns and deals with them. She will overcome this just like she has overcome everything in her life. Unlike Obama she has had to deal with adversity rather then just buying his way through life. Obama has never lead anything in his life. he has never made a decising and he has never had an original thought.

Obama is not interested in Palin's daughter pregnancy any more than he would want people going after HIS daughters.

Also, I would rather have a president that feels we can still save our world and takes a step TOWARDS that goal, even if he misses, than to have one that sits back and won't try because he doesn't think its possible.

The story of America is full of great men and women doing things others believed was impossible.

McCain only wants one term just to say 'I did it', do you think he even cares what happens 10 years from now?

I think folks that all this talk of if Obama is a Muslem just shows that you know nothing about him and don't care. Also, I do not want another four years of Christian right deciding what is right or what is wrong. I am a christian but do want to have some other groups views deciding how the US should govern. I agree with the statement "We've had two terms of an anti-fact, anti-science, ideological administration. We can't afford another." The GOP has stopped being the party of people's right and now is the party of the special interest - whatever it takes to keep control. I am sick to death of it- if folks want to stay in the 19th century then go do that somewhere else.

McCain's 1st important decision - was poorly planned and executed and that my friends is not a good sign.

Noone said he WAS going to die, just that on the life curve he is not in the middle? When you start getting to the bottom quarter, the stress of a presidency has left MOST presidential candidates. I applaude him for trying, As I would a boxer that wants to get back into the ring like George Foreman for a comeback. Foreman decision however affects only HIS family not the US.

Noone should abandon their dreams, It's just that his decisions affects me. When you already start proving over and over that your judgements are off, not only to Democrats but to Republicans as well, then people should be concerned. Since he has always been a hothead, I can't blame it on age, however some men mellow with age and some do not. He has shown that he still is and I don't want a hothead making ANY decisions about war.

I have just seen too many times, things that start to bad fast after you turn 70, even without the stress. I just wouldn't want it to happen while he's president of the US..

I want a president that not only listens to what he LIKES to hear, but one that listens to what he DOESN'T like to hear.

Gov. Palin needs to be at home attending to her family that is in distress and highly disfunctional. It's a shame that she chose to sell her daughter down the tube to advance her own career. She is young enough where she could have waited another 4 or 8 years to run for Vice-President or President. Instead she jumped on the bank wagon not thinking of the damage this could do to her daughter. It's bad enough being a pregnant teen and knowing that everyone in town is talking about you but Palin has put this young girl's private life out there for the world to discuss. As a mother, I'd do anything to protect my children. This woman definitely is not fit to fun this country as she won't even protect her own children, what makes you think she can protect this country. It's apparent that her career comes before anyone and anything. I feel so sorry for her children.

The N.Y. Times also said on Morning Joe today that there were many indications in Minnesota that Tim Pawlenty was being vetted yet there were none on Alaska.

That just doesn't wash that Minnesota had numerous people and orgs asked but Alaska had none.

What we are seeing here is that McCain is in the C.Y.A. mode to try to cover his very poor and hasty and I think very mad because he could NOT have Lieberman decision.

Are you getting this.

He was told by the evangelical right what to do here.

I do NOT want them controlling McCain in the White House.

Yes, tiedoflies, the New York Times has scoured state and local Alaskan officials and finds that no one was contacted in the Palin vetting process. No one !! Not even the FBI, even though the McCain campaign says they did request for an FBI background check.

This vetting debacle is reminiscent of the missing WMD debacle.

Hopefully the American voter has learned not let them be fooled again.

Alaska Party Official Says Palin Was Not a Member

The chairwoman of an Alaskan political party that advocates a vote on the state’s succession from the union said Tuesday that she had been mistaken when she said Gov. Sarah Palin was a member of the group.

A front-page story in The New York Times on Tuesday and articles in other news media reported that Ms. Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for two years in the 1990’s.

Big Note: The information in the Times article was based on a statement issued Monday night by Lynette Clark, the party’s chairwoman, who said that Ms. Palin joined the party in 1994 and in 1996 changed her registration to Republican.

On Tuesday night, Ms. Clark said that her initial statement was incorrect and had been based on erroneous information provided by another member of the party whom she declined to identify. I think that even if McCain did vet her completely, it was not a smart move on his part. If he knew about the pregnancy in her family, he should have known that it would not have looked good. Also, it seems insulting to Americans to think that just because there is a woman on the ticket that McCain would get the majority of the Hillary supporters or women voters. How is she going to balance having 5 kids, with one newborn, and being a VP nominee? She has flip-flopped on issues, such as the "bridge to nowhere" and has almost no knowledge of any foreign policy. She obviously wasn't vetted thoroughly enough, or else McCain is desperate enough to pick someone minutes after a face-to-face interview.

Gov. Palin for VP was a choice motivated purely by politics. She will energize those republicans who are not enthusiastic about McCain and may not have bothered to vote. McCain is betting that they will not be discouraged by the baggage she brings to the ticket nor her lack of experience. So much for "America First".

Palin's decision to give birth to a down-syndrome child was a crime; she not only trapped a human being into long-term suffering, but also drains valuable resources from the society. Her daughter's causal sex with a wild boy violated the Ten Commandments. McCain's decision to nominate Palin shows that this old man can no longer distinguish black from white. The Democratic candidates are bad enough; the Republican candidates are worse. Is God damning America?

Evax, it is obvious from your post why you would support a candidate like Obama that voted Pro-Infanticide. I can see that you would also likely support the next step from Infanticide which is EUTHANASIA. Who else do you believe should die because they don't meet your criteria for the right to be able to live....the mentally ill, the very elderly, the physically disabled, injured veterans, and the medically challenged. I guess you will a life where you are guaranteed to never grow old, be affected by a chronic debilitating illness or will never have children anything less then 100% perfect in every way. Well good luck with that. I have cared for and know many, many Down's children and they are happy, happy kids because the do not comprehend racism, sexism and many of the other problems people like you have. Guess you don't remember the very successful Down's person Christopher Burke who had an acting career that lasted several years. Guess what...the young man who cheerfully works at the grocery store where I shopped to day seems to be enjoying his life just fine...unaware that there are people like you out in the world that wish him DEAD.

Congrats John! You almost make me *want* to see you win the election. Can you possibly imagine how funny the talk shows will be for the next four years with Sarah Palin and her "Adams' Family" in the Veep suite? I'd be like Billy Carter, Roger Clinton and Danny Quayle all mixed together.

loriw: Apparently you see death as something miserable and should be avoided. Do you know how many cells die within your own body each minute? If cells between your fingers do not die during embryonic development, you would have one big finger instead of five separate fingers in your hand. When some cells do not die on schedule, you would get cancer. When too many sick people refuse to die, the society would crumble. Life and death are the Yin-Yang mirror images. It is essential to add death to the equation in order to keep life going. We all have to die someday and I will not resist death by artificial means when the time comes.
