She is not qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. and McCain is counting on the Rove spin doctors to create an acceptable image. The fact is we hardly know her and what we know is disturbing. She is a creationist, anti-environment, denier of global warming, pro-gun, hard core evangelical who fired a city librarian for resisting censorship. She is a double-talker who fought for huge earmarks for her tiny town. She appointed a man convicted of sexual harassment to be in charge of Public Security. She is a hypocrite who attacked Hillary as a whiner and now wants to ride Clinton’s coat tails. McCain is not putting his “Country First”-her candidacy has derailed the electoral process since accepting or rejecting her has become the election itself - and McCsin has forfeited.

Palin will help Sen. McCain a little bit with evangelicals , who were going to vote for him anyway, and hurt with everyone else. As her extreme positions on abortion , her less than pristine activities as governor, and her creationist leanings are revealed in more detail; her popularity will fade to Bushlike levels. Sen. McCain has always captured the moderate Republican vote easily. But moderate Republicans are a distinct minority in their own party. To appeal to moderate independents, McCain needs more than a hard core, female, religious conservative with a nice smile, a cute family and those prized small town values. Right wing women are just as determined as right wing men to force their beliefs into the law. Gov. Palin marches with the true believers who want their god's will enforced on heathen America.

Maybe now, with all the media attention, the "Lower 48" (as you all are referred to by Alaskans) will finally realize where we are on the world globe... and no, we are not "overseas"... and everytime you see the initials "AK" you can FINALLY know that it stands for ALASKA - NOT Arkansas!!!

And regarding the McCain/Palin ticket... the truth of the matter is, regardless of all the analysts and campaigning and all the strategies that play out, people will vote for who they feel will BEST serve the country based upon what issues are important to them and who they feel they can TRUST. I will be voting the McCain/Palin ticket because they represent what I value most, NOT because I think they are perfect and without flaw. And even though I consider myself a Republican it does not mean that I have no interest in the environment or healthcare.

It is obvious that there are different party platforms but it seems like the Democrats focus on whatever is divisive and all you hear is alot of back-stabbing, overly critical fault-finding mentality that surfaces everytime you mention party agendas. It's narrow-minded and immature, just like highschool. We don't have to fully agree with the other side but wouldn't it be in the best interest of our nation to STOP all the party bashing and negative commentary which spills over into full out verbal assault and focus on what we CAN DO to better understand our differences and work together to make things happen! In this area, I think Sarah Palin would excel as she is not only intelligent, but very personable and down to earth. Although I generally vote Republican because my values are more traditional and conservative, I can fully respect those of BOTH parties who conduct themselves with integrity and respect for others, whose main goal is in UNIFYING this country, not DIVIDING it... perhaps the Democrats would do well to focus on that.

Sarah Palin may be one ... but that alone does not remotely qualify her to run the biggest country in the world at one of the most crucial times in its history. It takes a heck of a lot more than that. You need ideas, conviction, strength, ability, knowledge of history and current events, education and on and on. Listen to what these longtime Republican supporters are saying in this YouTube clip ... McCain is the one who abandoned the cause of understanding and bridging differences and went for a "cynical" choice that was based more on the "narrative" than her true ability to effectively hold, arguably, the most important job in the world. It is your own party that is throwing the most damning darts at the selection and not the "opposition".

The Republican party needs to start over. First and foremost, I want to see a smaller, more efficient government and all the excessive spending needs to stop. Let's get that fixed first, and then we can work on some of the second tier issues (abortion, separation of church and state, etc)

The Democrats and Republicans both had their chances to clean things up and both dropped the ball. I'm ready to throw the ball to a third party. There is no downside risk, I can't imagine anyone being capable of screwing things up more than they are now.

She got carried away by her career and allow her barely 17 year teenager to get pregnant. She is a good executive officer who could not execute her own household. Besides she called Hilliary Clinton a winner. How could she? She is not only hurting Senator McCain, she is hurting women in general. She neglects her duty as the great executor and mother by neglecting to manage her own family. She is not my role model. Sorry McCain. The guy with the funny name is winning your election by a land slide. It is not too late if you denounce Palin's appointment today and choose Governor MCromny.

Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband who works for British Petroleum should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company. Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

Democrat loan guarantees and earmarks are only reserved for off the wall improbable future technologies such as hydrogen power that offer no short term chance of solution for our energy problems. Democratic disdain for energy production by US companies is evident with the current ownership of former US energy companies. Is it any surprise that the jewell Arco Oil Company which owned 80 percent of our Alaska Oil Reserves was bought out by British Petroleum Corporation at the end of the second administration of Bill Clinton due to the hostile Democratic attitude toward energy companies. Under the proper business environment and with the support of both parties, Arco Oil Company should have taken over British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum taking over Arco Oil Company. It is no accident that the largest US builder of nuclear power plants, Westinghouse Nuclear Power Construction Division was bought out by Toshiba Corporation of Japan. While 80 percent of France electricity is generated by nuclear power, only twenty percent in the US is generated due to the successful efforts of Democratic party to kill the US nuclear power industry. Significantly, nuclear power is not considered a mainstay of Democratic plans to address our energy crisis. There is also a worldwide shortage and backlog of orders for oil drilling platforms and oil drilling ships but US shipyards are not building these ships. Only one percent of the world's commercial ships are built in US shipyards. Hold your breath for the Democratic outcry and push for government help to US ship builders to build oil drilling ships in the US.

She demostrates that longterm Democratic policies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband who works for British Petroleum should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company with its substantial oil reserves should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company. Barack Obama complained at his acceptance speech in Denver about oil company tax breaks and praised the alleged jobs created under the administration of Bill Clinton. The following story should shed light on Obama’s praise of the economic policies of Bill Clinton. While camping and attending a bluegrass music festival, I took a tour of Comanche Peak Power Plant, the last nuclear power plant built in the United States. The plant is unobtrusive and is at perfect harmony with its environment. It is located near Glen Rose Texas a beautiful area that has bluegrass band festivals in the summer. It is a wonderful scenic country area and home to Dinosaur World and a state park. There are dinosaur tracks from 100 million years ago along the riverbed that can be seen in the water due to erosion and some say that the tracks are heading in the direction of New York City. The Brazos River flows through the area and the place is an environmental heaven. There used to be an old green Sinclair Oil Company dinasour statue that stood at the park. Ironically most of the stations and assets of Sinclair Oil Company was bought by Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company was considered the jewell of all American oil companies for having explored and developed the Alaskan North Slope and at one time owning eighty percent of our proven Alaskan oil reserves. Arco Oil Company was subsequently bought out later by foreign owned British Petroleum during the second administration of Bill Clinton. The point of this comment is twofold. The long-term hostility of the Democratic Party leadership toward United States owned energy companies has led to the sale of United States oil companies to foreign interests and that nuclear power plants can even be located next to wonderful wildlife and park areas and make good unobtrusive neighbors. Arco Oil Company with its substantial Alaskan oil reserves should have bought out British Petroleum instead of the other way around. Comanche Peak in Glen Rose the last nuclear power plant built in the United States symbolizes the death of the American owned nuclear power industry and the decline of United States owned oil companies due to the hostile business environment created by Democratic Party leadership. Sinclair Oil Company and Arco Oil no longer exist, British Petroleum has replaced them under the second Democratic administration of Bill Clinton.

Ironically the building that housed the largest research and development division of Arco Oil Company in Texas was sold by British Petroleum to Perot Systems and now serves as its headquarters. Perot Systems was founded by Ross Perot who previously created EDS Electronic Data Systems and who most importantly has been credited with throwing the 1992 Presidential election to Bill Clinton by drawing off many independent voters who would have voted Republican for George Bush senior. Perot Systems derives a significant amount of its business from state and federal contracts. A building that used to house American engineers, geologists, scientists, logistics people and ordinary employees who worked for an American owned oil company that strived to fill the gas tank for the average American now houses a company that focuses on giving computer support on state and the federal government social service contracts. This is the Democratic Party version of a success story. Outsourced government work under Bill Clinton replaces a former American owned world admired jewell of the oil industry that had provided gas for the American gas tank and many good American jobs for many years. So if you need reasonably price gas for your car, contact Bill Clinton and Perot Systems and ask them to give you a gallon of gas. This is the Democratic version of a success story, outsourced government work replacing a real American owned company that produced a real needed product at a reasonable price for the average American household.

Both John McCain and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin realize that the Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to effectively give away in trust our offshore exclusive economic zone by standing in the way of any current offshore development. Under the 1982 United Nations Law of the Seas Convention the US has an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles and mineral seabed rights up to 350 nautical miles extending along the Continental shelf. A nautical mile is 6080 feet so our exclusive economic zone extends about 240 miles and mineral seabed rights extend 420 miles. The US has the world's largest offshore exclusive economic zone totaling 4.4 million square miles. In comparison, the total land area of the United States is only 3.4 million square miles. On the East coast alone, if you drive from Key West Florida to Bangor Maine it is 2000 miles. Multiply the 2000 miles by mineral seabed rights extending out 420 miles results in a total of 840,000 square miles of ocean acreage. Because we have the world's largest offshore coastline which is twenty-eight percent greater than our land area, it only makes simple common sense that we exploit our offshore resources to achieve our energy independence.

My first election was 2000, and I loved McCain. I had no doubt that I would vote for McCain after Super Tuesday. Today, I am pretty sure I am going to do everything in my power to make sure he and Palin do not win this November. McCain made a terrible choice, he could have picked Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Condi Rice or even an outsider like the CEO of HP if he wanted a woman on the ticket.

According to some comments on blogs as a woman, i should be turned off by the idea that a leader of this country could possibly think that abortion is killing a baby and should be outlawed. As a person holding a Master's Degree from a public university, I should be outraged by the mere idea that creation should be taught in schools. And as a human, I should stand against the forces of evil who want to destroy the environment by dirlling for oil.

But in reality, I was turned off by Obama long ago. McCain was probably going to get my vote as long as he didn't choose one of the four people everyone thought was on his short list. I was definitely not excited about the ticket or voting this year. Then enter Palin who immediately energized me and got me excited about this race.

I think she made the right choice allowing a person to live, and not seing her son as an imposition or inconveniece. I'm proud of her support of her daughter who is now going to have to learn some hard lessons. But most of all I look at Sarah Palin and I see a woman who walks her talk. I see a woman who has the guts to stand up for what she believes even though it's not a popular opnion.

Does her pick solidify the Republican base? I think it does. My understanding is that the base wasn't ever real happy with McCain, they were kind of stuck with him. Palin is going to make sure they come to the polls on November 4. And I think she will have a lot of pull with some of the more moderate conservative women who believe that life begins at conception. SHe's also going to appeal to women who have ever had family crisis. Understanding the struggles of a family, like the one I came from or I hope to have someday, is something that years in congress or even Harvard Law School can't touch. With enough time, she can learn about foreign policies, but I don't know that anyone else running on the national tickets will be able to learn the lessons she has about being an American.

All because Bush got a pass from the religious nut cases that would ruin this country over the two issues of abortion and gay marriage.

I thought we were finally beyond that with this election and could get back to the business of good governing and maybe making some progress in this country.

But I was wrong.

My own party has completely blown these last 8. They have failed to stand up for the American People on every important issue and would rather wallow in the pig sty that is the far right and their desire to run the lives of every American.

The Republican are a disgrace.

Barack Obama is the only one fit to run this country!!

COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS:

Obama holds assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs, and he is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

-------------------------

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In August 2005, he traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against potential terrorist attacks.<61>

Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.

Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D–WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the 'Honest Leadership and Open Government Act', which was signed into law in September 2007.

He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections. Obama also introduced the 'Iraq War De-Escalation Act', a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.<68>

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs. joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said 'shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans

** First legislation, the HOPE Act, which increased Pell Grants to $5100, and later joined Senator Kennedy on the Higher Education legislation that passed July 20, by a vote of 78-18. That legislation also included funding for Predominantly Black Colleges to assist with counseling, tutoring and other needs of low income students. It also creates the Teaching Residency Act which will create a school-based teacher preparation program in high needs schools to provide each teacher with a mentor, content instruction, classroom management skills, a master’s degree and state certification, and a 2 year follow-up program.

**The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006

is an act that requires the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007 on a website maintained by the Office of Management and Budget.

**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act

Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction. Signed into Law on January 11, 2007.

Linda, you need to separate your texts other wise it become too confusing for those poor republican minds

Thank god that still exists in journalism. It is their job. Just imagine how much the republicans would be going after the VP pick if the situation were reversed and she was a democrat! Even scarier perhaps than the extremist views of Palin are the extremist right wingers coming out of the woodwork in blogs like this with their ideas that are 50 to 200 years behind the times and the reality of the world. I thought this would be the ugliest election of all time, and now it is becoming a living nightmare. The republicans are doing everything they can to distract and frighten us away from the reality of their horrible track record. It is time for that great tradition in American politics-throw the bums out!

The republican party and the whole country moving slowly at times, but inexorably more and more to the political right. The logical extension of the trend of moving to the right is ultimately FASCISM! It could happen here! There is a real possibility that the USA will have a flirtation (or worse) with fascism as a number of countries with hard-working people like us have done in the past. The republicans increasingly beat the drums of nationalism. It is a short trip from rabid nationalism to fascism or the extreme left. The logical extension of the extreme left has been communism. We are in little danger of tipping that way, but in significant danger of tipping to the fascist extreme. Either extreme would be a true disaster to America and the world. Currently we need to resist the right before we reach a tipping point.

Search the internet about Karl Rove (my favorite American fascist) and his master plan for a "one-party" America. The Karl Rove strategy has been and is currently the republican playbook. What do you think the republican religious right would do if they got into real power with a perceived mandate? Would they tolerate freedoms and diversity? They already think they have a mandate from God, just like extreme jihadists. An important part of the shift to the far right has started with the recent US supreme court appointments and would continue with appointment of far-right judges who would sit for decades if the republicans win. There is much more at stake here than if you are intending to vote republican believing the nonsense that they can make us more secure or your candidate lost in the primaries. Support Obama!

How can Sen. McCain fight for change when he can't even get his choice for VP?

I was already doubting McCain because I think he is a hard-headed elitist who doesn't care two pins about "people" and he would send us into harms way too fast because of his quick temper. But when he chose "the pit-bull in lipstick" that decided it for me. As a first term Govenor, she should feel her responsibility to the peolple she made promises to to get elected, she hasn't completed her task. And a mighty task it is, Alaska has more corruption than most states. If she doesn't honor her promises in Alaska, what makes you think she will honor any other pledge she makes? Would you really want her to be president if something happens to McCain??? Not me.

As for McCain, he's a solider, he follows orders well, but from what I've seen he doesn't lead well. I am sick to death of Karl Rove, Phil Graham and their tactics. I don't think McCain has what it takes to overpower them. Republicans have done a terrible job, I will not reward them for failure by supporting them again...this ticket is just the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.

I'm tired of it- ENOUGH!!!!

So, correct me if my source is incorrect.

But we know who is spinning the message Schmidt and Rove known as the guys that brought us two George W. Bush terms and now they want to sell us a third Bush term.

McCain called for an end to the“constant partisan rancor”. Yet his campaign ads have attacked American Artists by attempting to brand them as just celebrities. Barack Obama is like Ronald Reagan when it comes to support of the Talented Artists of their time. Obama’s message rings of a “Beautiful day coming to America” which is similar to Reagan’s “Its morning in america again”.

McCain’s campaign has gone after the media who are asking the important questions that help keep the voters informed about the contrasts between the Democrat and Republican Parties in the most important election of our times. So far McCain's soul mate is refusing take questions about the issues from mainstream reporters.

When McCain says the last weeks of this campaign will be hard fought, nothing personally, just the nature of the business we know what McCain, Schmidt and Rove are saying – more negative attacks, more slash and burn tactics. When McCain says “Change is coming,” to Washington DC – The voters look at the Schmidt, Rove and Fox News attacking and we know what is coming – A Pit Bull? Avoid The Pit Bull with Lip Stick when The Pit Bull attacks. Who says we must fight on their turf? Let them come to ours. This race is still Obama/Biden vs McCain/Bush.

Common sense now says that its Obama/Biden who can end the “constant partisan rancor” in Washington DC.

America can have a beautiful day in November by Voting for Change we can believe in
