Just returned from lunch in a California town that most people think of as liberal and full of femisitas. Main question among the women diners: Has Palin abandoned the most sacred role of all: motherhood? The media may not be sanctioned to talk about it, but if this is casual lunch conversation on the West Coast, my bet is that women all over the U.S. are rolling their eyes and saying "Bless her heart, but she's got a screwed up family." Among women voters, there seems to be a growing feeling that this candidate sacrificed the well-being of her family for her personal ambition.

(2) McCain is going to die in office. Voting for Palin for VP is voting for her for President. Probably not too many independents, who are the people she needs to win over, are going to be ready to do this. Obviously, we don't argue this directly.

America, what have we learned?

Yes, the Republican base was thrilled by Sarah Palin's speech.

Yes, she is a women and her candidacy is historic.

There is nothing new here; the same political tactics of ridicule, name calling, issue evading, total distortion of the facts and insults to the intelligence of MOST American's. Terror, fear, your family is at risk are so old they may have graduated from despicable political tactics to part of a frightening political platform. Throw in continual attempts to divide the entire nation and tell me, what is new?

What is new is my new formed opinion of John McCain, the so called maverick. I came to know and like McCain primarily from his many appearances on Hardball with Chris Matthews. He did seem to be an honest human being, not your every day politician with robot-like talking points. This came in handy when a pro-lifer would try to slay me with "you just don't like any republicans." I could say, "No, I kind of like that Senator John McCain."

After recently seeing CNN's documentary on McCain's life, I picked up something several times throughout the narrative. People who knew him and recalled various periods of his life portrayed an impulsive and potentially reckless decision making style. The shortest tale was when he filed for his new marriage license before his divorce was even final. When things in his life changed he would come up with a thought to pursue a new avenue. No sooner would the thought pop into his head and he wanted it done immediately. One day he thought he wanted to run for office and spoke to a politician for his counsel. He wasn't interested in following the advice given to start building a foundation, move to the state, for starters, and become (dare I say) a community activist. Instead he immediately bought a house in the district of retiring legislature, campaigned and used his POW captivity to answer opponent’s claims of outsider opportunist.

McCain's latest quickie was Wednesday's interview and Thursday's hire of Sarah Palin.

America, I have learned that Sarah can give a speech and John McCain is trigger happy. His first important decision gives us great insight. McCain wings it. We are just getting rid of one rooting tooting cowboy who seems incapable of reason or thoughtful deliberate process. He has and he will cost us dearly.

(4) Independents don't like it when all you offer is attacks. Community organizing/community service is now laughable and/or objectionable? Tell that to a union worker, a woman or a black person.

Scratch this point, union members, blacks, and all the other victim groups that deperately want cradle to grave nanny state socialism are never going to vote Republican.

(5) Back to (1). The first and last time this won't be McCain/Obama all the time before the election is Palin's debate with Biden. Here's a simple strategy for Biden: be cordial, complimentary and incredibly detailed and commanding in any policy--especially foreign policy--discussion. She'll sit there trying to remember her three bullet points on Georgia or health care reform, and the contrast will be self-evident

Biden track record of being on the wrong side of history on all the important foreign relations issues in his carreer will be fairly easy for Palin to remember. After her first body shot to Biden any discipline they might of tried to coach him on will go out the window and onandonandonandon Biden will be back in his true endless rabbit trail love to hear my voice persona

It's because they are far from objective, have agendas they don't even realize they have, and are losing their credibility with the American public. The comments and so-called analysis regarding McCain and Palin on this site reflect an inability to look in the mirror and see how irrelevant you are becoming. Your image in the mirror is fading, not because the mirror is flawed, it's because you lack substance and analysis.

As an independent voter, I seek the FACTS. Have you considered changing your name to Newsweak? Many of us are highly educated professionals who do not easily align with Republicans or Democrats, as we seek to understand issues based on FACTS. Your pre-digested pablum is of little value to me.

Obama wants to abandon the young men and women in Iraq. I think Palin is the new weapon of mass distraction to get us all talking about experience and ignore the real issues. This is how we got two Bush terms, and it worked so well they are going for a third. McCain is with his party's agenda 100% and so was Bush. The repub party has the agenda of making the rich richer and screwing the middle and lower class and it has been very successful so WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO CHANGE ANYTHING?

I hope Obama-Biden can get us talking about the issues again because that is what they can win on, repubs dont want that fight because they require people to vote against their best interests to win elections. The only way to get them to do that is fear and a really brainless sense of false pride.

In the end I say Palin hurt the Republican ticket.

I do think that Palin, ultimately, counts. She is the official attack-dog of the McCain campaign, the liar-in-chief (see factcheck.org). And she has, single-handedly turned the Republican party into a niche, far-right theocracy - a religious party, a born-again bigot party.

Obama has to be aware of her. Probably, he should treat her with affectionate condescension. But even better, unlease Hillary on her. A great line for Hillary: "I am Hillary Clinton, and honey, you ain't no Hillary Clinton". :-)

McCain's done and here's why: No matter how you spin it, he's TOO OLD and he's had three bouts with cancer. Chances of his dying in office are astronomically high and if/when he does, the mystery woman nobody had ever heard of a month ago will be president.

Corporate America may be willing to take that chance, but the rest of America is not. With the country on the brink of economic collapse, crippled by unbridled greed, mired in war on two fronts, and hated & ridiculed by the rest of the planet, only the super-rich could possibly believe that the voters are stupid enough to give them four more years to completely destroy America. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents are banding together across party lines as Americans to put a stop to this insanity.

WHY IS NOBODY COVERING THAT STORY?

The more the MSM tries to spin this into some kind of fairy-tale success for the mystery lady, the more they kill their credibility. Hell, the National Enquirer is becoming the place to go for truth. How crazy is that?!! The MSM has proven it can't be trusted to tell the truth. Doesn't matter...let 'em spin. When John McCain chose this nobody from the tundra as his VP, he destroyed his campaign beyond repair, and while they die-hard faithful might be buying this "Everybody Loves Palin" crap, the party insiders know it's super-duper over, and so do the Democrats. With our economy in ruins and gas & food higher than it's ever been in history, McCain was finished before he ever started. Once gas reached $4.00 a gallon, he was toast and well he should be. He certainly did his part to create the problem.

The survival of the nation hangs in the balance and nobody who truly loves America is going to vote to keep this going. This ends November 4th. The American people will not be fooled again. 1) "Obama got his house for next to nothing because of Rezko". Idiot. The asking price on the house was $1.6 million, he paid $1.3 million and Rezko had nothing to do with the selling price. In fact, it was the best offer the owners got. Rack that up as one of your bigger mistakes or lies.

2) Community Organizers. May not be big in Canada, but here in the States, Habitat For Humanity, Catholic Charities, SCLC, NAACP and Martin Luther King are considered to be extremely valuable to our nation. And they're all Community Organizers. Oh, and BTW, there was one -really- famous Community Organizer: his name was Jesus Christ. Shame on you, shame on the Republicans, trying to turn the mission of Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King into dirty words. When all is said and done they (and you apprently) have no shame.

3) Your BS about Obama refusing to equip our soldiers ia another blatant lie. He has supported the soldiers in big and small ways (ever heard of Walter Reed?) ever since he's been in government. 4) Obama will reduce the taxes of 95% of the workers, and your brilliant comment was that "there are not that many working"? Excuse me, but the US workforce is many times the entire population of Canada, and tax reductions for 95% of them is a BIG thing in this country.

I just see a lot of hate and arrogance on these blogs. I never thought I would see it from Democrats. But it would seem that the hard left has ruined the party just like the hard right ruined the republicans in 1994. I'm disgusted by this nah nah attitude on the part of voters and the lack of objective reporting on the part of the press. I'll be curious to see how everyone feels in about two years. Of course, the press wil pretend they had nothing to do with it just like they did after they gave Bush a free pass on everything, he got elected and proceeded to undo everything that Bill clinton had done and brought this country to its knees. And the voters will be complaining about taxes and an exploding deficit and debt that will finish the job that Bush started never acknowledging their part in it. And no one will learn a damn thing. We will still vote for someone for the wrong reasons and the press, no longer a legitimate form of dispensing knowledge, will still try to make silk purses out of sow's ears and that is how we will no longer be the best in the world. It is disheartening to say the least.

I wanted Hillary Clinton to be Obamas VP, but now Mrs Palin is Mr MCCains VP, and the glass ceiling has definately been cracked; however I believe that with the condition of our economy, the warlike mentality of Republicans, the high price of oil, the high cost of education, and people dying because of little or no healthcare, we have so much to fix that breaking the glass ceiling for women is wayyyyyyy down on the list. America needs help, and John and Palin have not promised us anything but change in Washington. What change? Change is good if the right thing is changed. People wake up, my Grandpa died from old age when he was younger than MCCain. Do you want a mom who has 5 kids to worry over, to raise correctly, to make all the hokey games , back to school night, work on the school play, and all that motherhood entails deciding what to do with the Taliban? I think Obama and his camp needs to address the rumors made by Larry Sinclair before they start to judge. There have been many residents living in the greater Chicago area and a hand full have made the claims and have repeated the claims that Obama and Rev Wright to name a few were high profile men that experience the Brothers on the Down Low lifestyle in the Chicago area. Authorities in the area wanted to question Obama on the death of one of these men who live this kind of way but it was quickly covered up by the left winged media that supports his campaign and the gossip magazine who first printed the story. This guy is nothing that he claims to be and it is very say that the American public is aiming at putting this man in office not knowing his homosexual/gay lifestyle. If these claims are false then why hasn’t he address them sooner, the answer ladies and gentlemen is that is can’t. The proof is written on the wall and now the people of these great lands need to decide.

2. Barack Obama said we should attack in Pakistan if we find the enemy there.

BUSH IS NOW DOING JUST THAT.

3. Barack Obama said we should use diplomacy as a first resort not a last resort.

BUSH IS NOW DOING JUST THAT WITH NORTH KOREA AND IRAN.

4. Barack Obama said we should establish a time table to leave Iraq.

BUSH HAS NOW ESTABLISHED A TIME TABLE WITH IRAQ TO LEAVE BY

2011.

5. Barack Obama said Washington needs change very badly.

JOHN MCCAIN IS NOW, AFTER YEARS, SAYING JUST THAT.

So who then has the correct judgement here?

Looks to me like both PRESIDENT BUSH AND JOHN MCCAIN ARE NOW DOING EXACTLY WHAT BARACK OBAMA SAID LONG AGO.

So who then is the real leader. He is the one others follow, and that is Barack Obama.

So yes, Obama has less so called experience but obviously he has learned so much more from his lesser experience because he has the correct judgement and has been in the lead on all these issues.

(1) Palin is running for VP, but more importantly she represents a possible model for the future of American politics that is optimistic and capable of getting things done for Americans. Obama on the other hand, tediously tells us what is wrong with us and doesn't get anything done.

(2) The author owes Sen. McCain an apology for this profoundly immature, offensive remark. None of us know how long we are going to live. The Obama-Biden Democrats seem to want women and people over 50 to just GO AWAY. It simply isn't going to happen.

(3) I find her family full of life, very real, and extremely attractive to boot.

(4) Trouble is, no one can tell exactly us when Barack Obama was a community organizer, if it was volunteer, part-time, or full-time work, or what he accomplished. I always find myself wondering if "community organizer" is a smoke screen designed to fill in some slacker years on his resume. In fact, since the MSM has never vetted his resume, I find myself wondering how many of his years have been slacker years.

(5) The Obama-Biden Democrats mis-underestimated Sarah Palin before Wednesday night. Keep on keeping on. Palin and Obama, one of them, are our American future. I'm betting on action-oriented, deliver-the-goods Sarah; not on paralysis-by-analysis and finger wagging at the American people Barack.

Donna1000, Obama was a community organizer before he went to Harvard to study law. This isn't a secret. If you don't know what he did or how much he was paid for being a community organizer, read a book. It's public knowlege. What's more Obama is probably the most vetted person running for office right now.

This was done early in the primaries.

Obama tells you what is wrong, and offers a plan for dealing with it. This is so you can make an informed vote. While most of what he's been doing is running for President of late, this is a necessary step to "getting things done." Furthermore McCain, by far, has done less in the last year than Obama. (McCain has missed more votes than he's actually participated in, and as for energy, he hasn't done work on that it the last 2 years including just voting.)

My problem with Mrs. Palin is not her family, but the number of lies she can tell in a 5 minute time span. I'm not interested in this as Bush gave me my fill of it. Even Palin has embrased the tactics of dividing the country through deception.

How ironic is it that Palin dumped on Obama for his voting of Present. In Illinois that means you show up and have voted NO plus you explain WHY you voted no. Palin hooted and hollared about how indecisive that was, because she either did not understand the concept or made an uninformed choice to open her mouth. AND YET, the guy she seems to portray as a saint DID NOT SHOW UP for most of the votes. It is McCain who can't seem to take a stand, while she mocked Obama for actually doing his job.

As long as that is the future she is offering, I'll have none of it.

Metzlerd, Barack Obama looks young but he is almost 50 years old. What is it that he has accomplished for others during those almost 50 years?

Sarah Palin rsaw corrpution in Alaska and ran for governor against Big Oil and the Good Ol' Boys. Shegained control of Alaskan oil for Alaskans, the people who legally own it, in less than two years. That is something that no other Alaskan politician has had the honesty, or will, to do in my lifetime. I am in awe of her acheivement. I will take my chances with Sarah.

I heard all of Palin's speech. But I did not hear any derision of community organizers.

All she did was say that a mayor's job is similar to a community organizer's, plus some real responsibilities. If anything, it was a dig at Obama's comparison of his experience and hers.

I don't see how Romano can say that she denigrated community organizers.

Can he read?

Obama's sure as hell are worried about Palin! Why else is he sending Hillary to go campaign against her in Florida after his supporters told the PUMAs they were stupid/needed to get with the program/who needs you anyway? And all of his female supporters are dutifully falling into line writing "Palin is icky" articles, going on TV saying they don't like her, etc.

He's the nominee. He wanted it, said he could win it, and it's his job to go win the election. Not Hillary's. If he's this rattled by some chick from Alaska, how the hell is he going to handle it when Putin tells him to go blow?

Yes they are worried stiff. For they know they did not gain the nomination in a fair manner. To me Palin is like a mirror to the American people to help expose what a fraud Obama really is. Palin have done what only Obama only mouth platitudes about. I am black and extremely disgusted when my supposedly smart black friends cannot get beyond blackness and see the Truth. So God made it easier by inspiring McCain to select Sarah. So let me see how many people will flunk this test.

I dare to tell all my friends that Hillary was cheated for I place fainess well ahead of my blackness. And I am proud to say I was not one of the millions who tuned in to watch that Fraud get the nomination. More to the point I have resigned the Democratic Party before I even submitted my membership. And me and my friends will be actively involved in the McCain/Palin campaign.

LMAO, I guess you did not bother to listen to Senator Clinton's speech when she urged her suppporters to get behind the Democratic ticket. Voting for McCain and Palin will mean you are opposing most of what Clinton and the Democrats stand for.

Yeah, yeah, Yeah... Palin's family and values are certainly just peachy. But, everyone reading this knows without question that if little 17-year-old Malia Obama were pregnant and she and her thug boyfriend were paraded up on the national stage like this bunch of Clampetts, Barack would be gone so fast that it would take Harry Potter's owl and a GPS constellation to find him. The whole sordid family would be held up as an example of just what's wrong with (insert the group you hate here.......)

But no... Barack and Michelle have a great marriage, two beautiful, well-adjusted kids, and look like the cast of Leave it to Cliff Huxtable. He has been thoroughly vetted by the American public through 24 debates and a tough-fought primary, and we have found him acceptable. His judgment has been proven right time and time again. And yet the Repubs want you to believe that this is a bad thing. That a family like that is "Elitist". Just when the bloody dripping hell did ELITE become a slur? I WANT an elite president!

I though that 'Small Town Values" meant two parents, marriage then kids, work hard, set an example, don't make excuses, worship, live and let live, Golden Rule stuff. And If that's true, and that's what "Small Town America" aspires to, what's with the "Obama doesn't share my values" crap?

And while I'm on it, just how the hell does this woman have the chutzpah to applaud her daughter for "making her own choice", and extol America to respect that choice, while asking us to elect her so she can take that same choice away from us? The sheer hubris and hypocrisy are enough to make my head explode!

You are right, unfortunately, Americans have been brain-washed so long by the Republicans, they have forgotten how to think for themselves.

They have very short memories, they have already forgotten that we are still fighting a war that should have never been, and two already in progress and with Cheney going to Georgia during the Republican convention and coming back with a plan to give Georgia $100 billion dollars to probabyly help them fight Russia which is a WAR, believe me, we DON"T want. ANd where did we get $100 billion to give Georgia and owe China a TRILLION. The unemployement came out to day, 6/1%, highest in 5 years and another 80,000 jobs lost last month to bring the total to 500,000 lost for the year.

What are these people thinking listening MCCAIN and PALIN. It is just unbelievable. Not to mention NO Universal Heathcare which McCain does not support, poor people getting poorer which means MORE welfare, homes in foreclosure and still foreclosing, this is so disgusting that sometimes I see why people commit suidide which I never understood how they could before.

Not to mention the HELL out troops are going through., this is very discouraging and depressing.
