1) The people who support Obama are looking for anything/anyway to criticize Palin. 2) The people who support McCain are going to defend her. There is a reason we elect Governors historically. They make executive decisions. No Gov. has true foregin policy experience. Like Senators, they come to office with a view on how they would approach things, yet, they come knowing what it is like to have to live with their own decisions. That is the difference in Biden and Palin. Biden is more knowledgable on foregin policy. Palin has been an executive. That said, To inisist that Palin somehow isn't qualified is to insist that Obama isn't. Obama has made many gaffe's on foreign policy including recently on Georgia. Regarding the "Bush Doctrine", Gibson was doing his best to derail her. To suggest she didn't know is absured. To suggest she was trying to clarify is more fair. There are two aspects, the one Gibson pointed to and the fact that in summary the Bush doctrine is this "if you harbour terrorists we'll consider you a terrorists". You guys pretending to be experts on that doctrine seem to be overlooking it. I'm certain Palin couldn't have recited the quote Gibson read, but, she did comment (in broad generalizations on how Bush went about protecting the US). The incredible irony is that you guys keep trying to tie her to Bush and now you criticize her for not reciting his doctrine by date and quote. The bottom line, she handled a tough interview without helping her standing in the eyes of those who oppose her and without hurting her standing in the eyes of those who support her. Barak Obama has made gaffe after gaffe and is incredibly naive regarding much of the world. Palin, nor Obama, nor Biden, nor McCain are without flaw. All can be fairly criticized, and yes, ALL, have adjusted previous positions on particular issues. Perhaps most guilty of this is Obama himself, who. despite the claims of his avid supporters, has never seen an interview this tough (and yes I saw the O'Reilly interview). Personally, I'm tired of the bashing and trashing. As someone who enjoys above board discussion with those who don't agree with me, I've realized that any above board discussion with an Obama supporter is rare. Possible, but rare. I'm personally disappointed in BOTH campaigns, both have distorted the other's words (Obama has on McCain's joke regarding 5 million dollars, on the housing thing, on his war position, etc.) McCain has on the lipstick thing. I wish they were doing town halls and talking with each other. The media is useless, unless of course you support Obama. So, here's my take. If we want to talk experience, we need to note that both Palin and Obama come to this race with somewhat thin expereince. I would rather have a young gov. than a young senator. If you want to talk economic policy we need to look at how each candiate's approach would affect business growth. If however, as the Obama camp seems to want to, you want to call names and invoke the power of the press to unfairly whine on your behalf and misrepesent most everything to favor Obama, then a civil debate among the citizenry seems useless. Bottom line, it will be decided in the ballot box. One, or the other, will win and all of us will have to follow the outcome. Regardless of who wins, neither can govern in this atmosphere of name calling and divisiveness. George W. Bush had done a tough job in tough times and I for one appreciate it. I amgrateful that he has kept us safe and all the members of the media, and all the bloggers, who continually trash him have been protected by a government commiteed to you. We need to make this thing more civil. Obama or McCain, whichever wins, has a tough job on his hands in this environment. Despite what the folks decrying religion think, we all need prayer!!!!!

www.jihadwatch.org

It certainly isn't all muslims involved in terrorism, or even a majority, but if the people involved in terrorism were primarily represented by blonde Swedish grandmothers, or Methodists, or anything else, sooner or later there would indeed be profiling. It's been done before for Germans from 1939-1945, yet one never heard them complaining. Why do we pay so much attention now?

I'm sorry, but the sudden overture from the individuals mentioned in the article smacks of nothing less than grandstanding for religious politics, something I'm told are a bad thing.

It sounds like that is the main problem here. I would ask that Obeidi simply contact the Governor's Office in Alaska. She has been a very open minded, friendly, and listening Governor, with many many isssues to take care of.

Your article simply points out the importance of regular citizens should allow take the initiative to communicate with government. Government is of and for the people. Obeidi is most welcome in Alaska.

Givne the sepration of church and state, however, most churches (if not all) do not get government handouts to bujld churches. The same for Muslims.

It's not like an accurate knowledge of Islam wouldn't aide in her understanding of global issues we currently face. Heck, with a son shipping to Iraq, one would think the Palins as a family might want to meet some Muslims and understand Islam better. That will only make Track's job easier.

I don't think the Muslim community is acting for special treatment. It's not unusual for Governors or even our own President to send out a letter commemorating Ramadan. Bush usually hosts a Ramadan dinner every year.

No doubt Palin's support of Israel has everything to do with Jesus coming back and nothing to do with a knowledge of the facts regarding the creation of Israel or the human rights crisis going on right now in the Palestinian territories.

And let's see...on the other side, we have Sen. Biden, chairman of the Foreign Relations committee. Gee, if something happens to the Pres, who do you want making the decisions? The clueless Hockey Mom whose foreign experience has to do with seeing Russia? Puh-leese.

I think most people who sided with obama are worried about how many dumb americans will fall for palin: that being mom and with no serious international knowledge are the only qualifications to be vp or potus. It is not palin we are scared. We are worried that how many stupid and dumb people will fall for the karl rove and mccain lies. Palin is a puppet to mccain and karl rove. I can double dare you that if the three of them were in a room, palin will be on the side line watching( probably can't even watch, maybe ask her to get coffee). she doesn't have a say in the mccain administration. Mccain just will be the same old same mccain siding with bush. Mccain admit that he doesn't understand economics. McCain is so much more willing to use the military means to resolve problem than Obama. Obama prefers diplomatic first, a lot like President Clinton. If you are a working mom, think about your childrens future, think about your wallet, think about if you have enough money to support your family, think about education that your children will recieve, think about your teenager going to college and with possible help from the $4000 college fund, think about if a possible war with russia (is that what you want? and think about a draft because our military is stretch too much, a war with russia means draft), think about health care that the possibility of an almost universal health care (if you have an accident or illiness, hopefully not, can you afford it?) think about if you have no right to abortion) think about all those things. Then you can see that the choice is clear. That Obama is your guy for POTUS.

Mr. Obeidi complains that we hassle his father at the Airport just because he flies back and forth to Palestine but wasn’t it the Palestinians that paraded down the streets after 9/11 singing death to America and isn’t it almost the entire Palestinian Muslim population that makes demands for the extermination of all non Muslims throughout the world while cutting off the heads to the few remaining Christians trapped in Palestine and isn’t it the Muslim Arabs that are responsible for 99.9% of all the acts of terrorism around the world. I might add with almost 30% of the American Muslims according to the most research PEW research report believe Jihad and Martyrdom are valid responses to political disputes so should Governor Palin reach out and thank them for nothing while at the same time her Muslim community does not recognize nor participate in any activities outside their own Muslim community?

Please help me understand why any of use infidels should recognize either the Islamic holy month of Ramadan or Idul Fitri when the Alaskan Muslim Community not only don’t recognized Christmas or any or our Religious holidays, but even deny that Christ died on the cross. It’s hard to have respect for any of these Muslim communities when they have zero respect for not only our religious observances but want to change our way of life into sometime that resembles their 7th century form of religion. Sorry Mr. Obeidi and Newsweek, until either of you wake up to the fact that we are in a war against radical Islam and our “American Muslim” start speaking out against radical Islam verses complaining about us for not ‘reaching out’ to them, Ms. Palin in my eyes owes absolutely nothing to the Alaskan Muslim population since they continue to contribute nothing to the greater good of the non-Muslim Alaskan population.

They don't care what two wars cost financially, and they don't care how many Americans die or are damaged in these two wars. In fact, they want more wars. This Jewish led cabal cares about one issue and one issue only...protecting Israel! AIPAC blackmails our senators and congressmen into voting exclusively pro-Israel on all issues and they require our leaders to "kow-tow" before them and make statements like..."an attack on Israel is an attack in the U.S." They have elevated Israel to our 51st state. Israel has become as important as Nebraska. Sarah Palin had to meet with AIPAC officials before her acceptance speech and her answers in the ABC interveiw were filled with..."Islamic extremists and terrorists" which reflects the coaching of Randy Schuenemann, McCain's foreign policy adviser and a paid lobbiest for Georgia and an extreme right-wing neo-con and obviously, a jew. Obviously, these statements are made to keep Americans afraid of muslims in general. Ordinarily, Schuenemann being a jew should not matter, but when he lobbys for wars to protect Israel, wars that are not in our interest, then the question of race and religion does matter. One is right to ask if his loyalty is to the U.S. or Israel. In fact, we as patriotic Americans are within our rights to ask if all jews that lobby for these wars are loyal to the U.S. or is their primary loyalty to Israel? This jewish-led cabal would have us believe that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism is the most dangerous threat to the U.S. in the 21st century. I beleive it doesn't have to be. We've made it so by our blind support of Israel. I'm much more concerned about this group subverting our foreign policy, our elections, and our constitutional form of government. It is prudent for Americans to be vigilant of external dangers, and in this case, it is prudent for Americans to be vigilant of dangers from within. And if this threat proves to be jewish-born, or jewish-led, then so be it. We, as Americans, have a right to know it, to expose it for what it is, and to stop it.

Some Democratic leaders including Obama but not Joe Leiberman have asked what have we accomplished in Iraq? John McCain was right in his support for the Iraq surge. Iraq today is in relative peace and is no longer hostile to the United States. Iraq is currently producing two and a half million barrels of oil a day and is capable of producing four and half million barrels a day. At $120 one hundred and twenty dollars a barrel Iraq has current oil revenues of $300 three hundred million dollars a day. Those revenues can grow to $500 million dollars a day with increased production. Thanks to the John McCain support of the war and the surge $300 million dollars a day are not being funneled to enemies of the United States to support terrorism around the world and to buy missiles and nuclear weapons that can be used against the United States. With an income stream of three hundred million dollars a day, Iraq was capable of purchasing hundreds of nuclear weapons. Our current progress with North Korea on nuclear issues is a result of cutting off the money flow and purchase of missiles and nuclear technology from North Korea to Iraq.

I actually remember the days when you did actual investigative reporting. Boy, how times have changed. Are you really so desparate for dirt on Gov. Palin? Is this really the best you could come up with? I sure that if you delve deeply enough, you can probably find a Wiccan that will be happy to go on the record stating that Gov. Palin has never met a Wiccan and has been ignoring them.

You also seem to insinuate that Gov. Palin can somehow control searches conducted by TSA. Just in case you don't remember, or perhaps don't know, TSA is a FEDERAL agency, not an organization controlled by the state, and thus is not under Gov. Palin's control.

Really, this posting is beneath your dignity. Get out of the tank for Obama and start doing your job. You know, the one you used to have - unbiased reporting.

Let's get some facts straight. Jihad means struggle in Arabic. To me its' somewhat like the English word, "crusade." Yeah, the original crusaders did wage a holy war and yeah, King Richard the Lionhearted undertook conversion by the sword against Muslim prisoners. He told them convert to Chrisitianity or die. Jihad never originated as holy war. Some extremists make their struggle or jihad into a holy war. They're like the abortion-clinic bombers. Are all Christians abortion-clinic bombers? Is that an inherent part of the Christian religions?

Alaska attracts Muslims just as it attracts Christians, Jews, and Buddhists--because we enjoy freedom from a lot of pressures to conform that I have experienced on the East Coast, for example.

No Alaska Muslim I know has ever supported any terrorism--by the death squads in El Salvador, Guatemala or South Africa, or the contra terrorists employed by the United States to attempt to overthrow the democratically-elected government of Nicaragua by murdering innocent civilians. The innocent civilians weren't "collateral damage" caught in crossfires. They were targets of US government terrorists. You can check the January 2005 Newsweek for reports on the "Salvador Option," the Reagan administration alumni in the Bush administration that proposed to introduce El Salvador-death-squad-style terrorists into Iraq.

Alaska's congressional delegation--one of whom goes on trial for corruption next week and the other has spent more on lawyers than on his reelection campaign have a long history of supporting terrorism. Alaska Muslims do not.

For those of who swallow the lie that criticizing Israel is anti-Semitism, here's a news flash:

Arabs are Semites, too. Badmouthing Arabs is as anti-Semitic as baed-mouthing Jews.

Scott

"...But Osama Obeida, the center’s vice president, said his group has never had any contacts at all with Alaska’s governor."

Who cares? Honestly, who cares if the Governor of Alaska has had contact with the "2,000 - 3,000 muslims" who live there?

All we ever seem to hear about in the news today is muslim this and muslim that and how their cultural needs are not being addressed or are being overly addressed at the expense of other cultures and religions.

My guess is that Governor Palin has met with many Alaskans during her tenure and has been meeting with many _Americans_ on the campaign trail since her selection to be McCain's running mate.

What I and many other Americans care about is what happened to the 'melting pot'? What happened to assimilation? Why do many muslims from Europe and the Middle East emigrate here if they do not care for American ideals, American culture and the US Constitution? Why must Americans from an inherently varied group of religious affiliations and cultures have to go out of their way to accomodate muslims?

I really don't care if Sarah Palin went out of her way to meet with this 'special interest ' group? The fact that she has not allowed herself to be bullied by the PC group du jour only increases my support for her.

If this is the best that Isikoff can come up with to meet his ink and inches quota for Newsweek, it may be time for Michael to take a sabatical.
