It's not that he actually wants to abolish the American economy. It's just that he's not sure what the economy actually is, or where to find it. He should look under the boot heels of his corporate handlers, for starters. Then he should retire.

Don't believe it as this port shows:

This is not a guy who just votes for the corrupt legislation his Wall Street friends tell him to vote for - this is a guy who has staked his name on being "fundamentally a deregulator," as he recently described himself.

On 11/19/93, McCain took to the Senate floor to support an early financial deregulation bill and decry what he called "the tremendous regulatory burden imposed on financial institutions." The guy who now claims to be the trustbusting Teddy Roosevelt back then lamented "the rapidly increasing regulatory burden imposed on banks is to cause them to devote substantial time, energy and money to compliance rather than meeting the credit needs of the community."

Ten years later, McCain was bragging to the Associated Press that "I have a long voting record in support of deregulation," and to CNN that "I am a deregulator. I believe in deregulation."

There's a very bright line from McCain and the GOP's stance and practice of deregulation of the financial markets to the crisis facing the economy today. 'McCain's long-held belief in deregulation' is THE reality, not the ersatz populism he's spouting in the last 48 hours.

But again, that is what politicians do. They attempt to step in to "save"us. There are folks who study this kind of stuff, and they need to be consulted before we make any rash decisions. I have a few sources that I trust, and am going to wait and see what they propose. I am sure in either a McCain or Obama administration there will be experts consulting with the President.

What we don't need is the government racing in to fix a problem, any problem, either real or perceived.

I am just fearful of what Reid/Pelosi/Obama will be able to accomplish if they get power. And as I was educated the other day, it is the Congress, not the President that establishes tax policy in this country. Clinton owes a huge debt to the Repubs in Congress during the 90's for his success. And it was Kemp-Roth in the Congress in the early-80's that ushered in one of the greatest perods of growth in this country, and set Keynsian economics on it's head.

I've heard Jack Kemp is an advisor to McCain. I want to hear more about that. Kemp has great ideas on "Enterprise zones" and pro-growth, supply-side tax cuts which lower the cost of capital which generates a demand for dollars as workers are given an incentive to work harder and attain more dollars. This raises the value of the dolar. What you say? Cutting taxes on the "rich"? Yes, cutting taxes for employers, creates more employees.

God love the Democrats. Their hearts are in the right place, but their brains are not. As Kemp says, "Democrats love employees. But you can't have employees without employers."

I am for less-government, in general. What we need now is to take a look at the sub-prime industry and the derivative industries. If changes need to be made which do not hurt their competiveness, then we need to look at those.

As I read these blogs though, not just here but across the web, I begin to wonder, does pragmatism exist anymore?

"If the Republicans lose in 2008, they will leave office armed and dangerous. Blackwater is the utterly gripping and explosive story of how the Bush Administration has spent hundreds of millions of public dollars building a parallel corporate army, an army so loyal to far right causes it constitutes nothing less than a Republican Guard. The most important and chilling book about the death throes of U.S. democracy you will read in years and a triumph of investigative reporting."

- Naomi Klein, author, No Logo and The Shock Doctrine

"Jeremy Scahill skillfully chronicles the birth of America's frightening Praetorian Guard, one that has been unleashed - 25,000-strong - in Iraq. These hired guns, with their black uniforms and automatic weapons, appeared on the streets of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. They operate, at home and abroad, beyond the bounds of legal constraints and are controlled by secretive puppet masters, such as Erik Prince, who have close ties to the radical Christian Right. Should our nation enter a period of instability following another terrorist attack on American soil, an economic collapse or a series of environmental disasters the tyranny groups such as Blackwater impose on others could become the tyranny they impose on us. The rise of this unchecked mercenary force, as Scahill understands, could presage the final stage in the collapse of American democracy.

- Chris Hedges

"From Belgrade to Baghdad, from Nigeria to New Orleans, Jeremy Scahill leads a new generation of muckraking journalists. With trademark courage and conviction, Scahill is exposing the dark, violent and secretive world of the neo-mercenaries Washington is increasingly deploying in its wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and at home in the US. This is an explosive book!"

Relax moosehead, now we are alone.

They wake at dawn 'cos all the jailbirds are singing,

Two total strangers but that ain't what they're thinking.

Outside it's cold, misty and its raining (it's November)

They got each other and neither one's complaining (NOT!)

He says I'm sorry but I'm out of ideas and lies,

Never mind Barbie we can watch the early exit polls.

If you think I'm stupid and I want your money

Come on voters let me know.

If you like my lipstick and you think I'm right-wing

Come on voters tell me so.

This time the stakes are much higher then most people could imagine

I would like to point out some things You may already know with a new perspective.

I follow a economist named bob proctor who has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.

He perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown ,and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years

Is terrifying. He thinks it could get worse then the great depression.

Banks in the US are going under one after the other. Country wide the largest morgage bank in the world

Bear Stearns and Lehman brothers , and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms.

And now Fanny and Freddy which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.

The goverment took them over because they are essentially bankrupt.

If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash

And we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before

The future of these companies will fall into the hands of our next president

And all of our economic future depends on them reorganizing these companies right.

Lehman, Merill Lynch, and Bear Sterns have survived for over 150 years and survived even the great depression

They are important because the are the biggest engines of growth in america and

they are connected to almost everything.

The last time the real estate market numbers looked this bad was during

The great depression and real estate often leads the way into major economic recessions.

One out of 10 Americans is somewhere in the foreclosure process.

During the last 8 years the average person saw there salary drop instead

Of increase. These are all facts no one will argue with.

The truth is we are only in the start of the worst economy we have seen in our generation

and a very real possibility of another depression.

Bush just like Mcain doesn't understand the economy.

That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it

He does not understand exactly what is broken. Its no surprise that he doesnt. The people that make up these

securities use complex math models very few people understand.

They are basically bundles of thousand of loans some good and some bad that are then given rules based on quantitiative

math. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this, and the same things bush and mcain have done for the last 8 years

Have not worked so far and wont work in the future.

If you do what you have always done then you will do get what you have always __________

90 percent of the time they have voted the same.

Please don't just take my word for it Start to read up on some of this yourself. MSN money, elliot wave and, bloomberg

Have tons of articles That prove we are in the heading into one of the worst economies any one has ever seen.

So why are the polls even close then ?

The chairman of mcains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues

they vote on a personality composite which means. He is trying to sell personality instead

of results.

He believes people will vote against there own self interests.

Lets teach him we are smarter then that and elect the ticket that can

bring us back from the brink of a economic abyss.

If you think i am kidding do your own home work you will find

We are at the start of this mess not the end.

Mcain admits in the year 2008 he cannot use a computer even to send email

Its almost impossible then he will understand the complex securities such as cdos that are destroying wall street

and the home values on your street.

We are not bulletproof america it time to wake up and hold these people accountable.

How many people that you go out and have drinks with would you really want running the country?

Lets stand up and fight for our country now while it will still make a difference

Lets elect Obama Biden 08

Obama's six-point economic plan again, instead of letting the McCain camp say that Obama has nothing to say. He's been talking about this economic plan (tfor problems like the threat of a Wall Street meltdown, etc.) since last March, and talked about it in the Senate several times before that. Why are the TV and radio media silent about this? Are they trying to influence the election or what?

McCain was Chair of the Commerce committee that had oversight on the regulation of the banking and financial investment industries, he along with his buddy Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas) did everything they could to deregulate such protections designed to protect the American people in order to allow their supporters to steal and gamble. Farewell to Bush/McCain/Palin, it has not been so nice knowing you as the chickens finally come home to roost!

Senator Obama worked as a community organizer after he graduated from Columbia and BEFORE he went to Harvard Law (where he was head of the prestigious Law Review). I'm very sure that he could have gotten a job at any top tier law firm with his background. He obviously did NOT graduate with a BA from Idaho State OR with a "gentleman's" C-minus as did GWB OR 894th in a class of 899 from the Naval Academy.

Hmmmm, I think I'll support men with solid ideas, brains, and plans to help our country recover from the last eight years. I'm a woman who supported HRC with cash and with my vote. I would not cast my precious vote for McCain/Palin under any imaginable circumstance. I'm a person who looks at the issues, not at the color OR genetalia. I sure wish that more people would do so too!

Just because he is intelligent and speaks in a manner that many may have dificulty relating to does not mean he doesn't have a plan. Remember he WROTE his own speech for the DNC unlike the RNC McCain had the work done for him.

As an independent , I watch probably more carefully as I have voted both Democrat and Republican in my voting life of 25 plus years. So what that means is that one starts watching and scrutinizng each person in the early phases in oder to make the best choice because Im not voting along party lines. Im voting for the person who can take on the postion and be the most effective.

As for what has happened this week it is truly sad that it has taken a crisis such as Lehaman and AIG to get people to really pay attention to the issues rather than the stupid rheoric that as thus far consumed this campaign and created so much distraction.

McCain if anyone wants to recall was involved in the S&L crisis of the early 80's (keating 5) how many thousands of taxpayers either lost money or had their assets frozen, How soon we forget. McCain has consistently been for deregulation and a lack of monitoring on wallstreet.

Several times Obama warned about this type of financial crisis occurring and during his so called short term in the senate pushed for reform which was not to be had.

Hopefully we can weather this storm and I for one belive that only Obama with the help of many others on both sides can help bring this country back from the brink of disaster Needless to say it wont be easy. So for the sake of our country stop fighting, start thinking and put the person in ofice who will most likely have the most effective chance for change. God knows they will need all of Amercias support.

For those who say Obama hasn't DONE anything - why don't they read up on his legislation - or listen a little more in depth to what's going on on the Hill? Two major pieces of legislation which he effected in his 'short' time in Washington was bipartisan legislation (with Richard Lugar of Indiana and Chuck Hagel) on non-proliferation of nukes and ethics reform...how much bigger and broader can it get? Do we want security on a global scale or not? Do we want reform in government or not? These are very significant pieces of legislation, but he has sponsored over a hundred bills in just the last year, and co-sponsored a bunch more - all in his 'short' time in Washington. Prior to that, he did a lot of nitty-gritty legislative work for the 'ordinary' person - in Illinois. All in all, he has spent more time in the legislature than Hillary Clinton and done a whole lot more than John McCain!

We need to attend to the facts.

Obama is the only candidate that has been thinking about this growing crisis for years now (he proposed anti-preditory lending legislation in 2006). I think his plan is fantastic, and the economic experts that I have consulted for another opinion actually agree with his policy ideas as well.

"For those who say Obama hasn't DONE anything - why don't they read up on his legislation - or listen a little more in depth to what's going on on the Hill? "

I actually have read up on what Obama (and McCain) has done and the ONE major bill you site he did "effect", as you say, was the Nuclear Non-prolif bill. Him and most every other congressman. If you read who the originators are he is not one. Obama latched onto this bill that was very strongly supported. So I will give you that one...sort of. Ethics reform is very broad and I believe the bill you are siting was another largely supported bill that he jumped onto as well. I can't locate a specific BILL , that he set forth in regaurds to ethics reform, so much as some powder puff technicality legislation that makes all the congressmen and women feel better about themselves....If you give him both that is TWO bills. To say that is more than McCain and even Hillary is highly uninformed. Why don't you read up on what you claim. McCain has had more major bills he spearheaded in the time that Obama was in the senate then Obama did (not to mention prior years). Again people just spew things and hope they are accepted as fact.....with that said most people SHOULD think I am just spewing things; they should then go to the actual legislation (public record) and look it over. Don't just buy what people and biased news stories give you. If you want to defend Obama that is fine; speak proudly about your canidate that is healthy but don't come out and try to downplay what others did while OVER-INFLATING what Obama has done...like him for other reasons but not his record of getting a lot done for america.

It’s a telling task that characterizes what each nominee offers to a nation that has gone from a wealthy union to a broken divisive ghost of what is just eight years!

Obama picked Joe Biden for VP, an excellent needed addition as Biden is an

expert on foreign affairs and the economy!

Mccain choose vanity over substance…

Mcain choose novelty over experience…

There are least 50 –80 more acceptable and viable conservatives available for the job!

The nation needs intelligence, and people with the wisdom to select the best advisors and cabinet available! The democrats will do this hands down. The GOP had its chances and they showed their hand- monoplies and deregulation have paved the way to the current crisis!

The “Saving and Loan” scandal, the “Suprime, mortgage and banking industry meltdown” have GOP/John McCcain written all over these financial ruins.

It is the job of the federal government to provide oversight to protect its citizens from corruption, greed and inadequacy. This are crucial issues that the GOP and John McCain have never grasped!

Several financial experts are coming out of the closet. What they are saying is simple, “the nation can’t afford any more of John McCain/George Bush fiscal mismanagement!

I live in Arizona I have known the true definiton of "Maverick" for years, the rest of the nation is now learning the same!

You obviously do not know what you are talking about. I know this because Colorado School of Mines is in GOLDEN CO not Grand Junction. I should know I attend school there. That made me laugh. I registered just to point this out.

Obama does not believe in the American worker or in small business - he is basically ignorant having never run a company. He is unfit to be president.

Obama used hard drugs - a felon - as he mentioned in his book.

Obama has a wife who is angry with all Americans - and only stopped being angry once her hustband stole the Demorat nomination from Hillary Cllinton.

Obama HATES all WOMEN given his total disrespect and not even vetting Hillary Clinton.

Obama has weak experience at best...and chose a very weak senator (Biden....he is not even in the news) as his running mate.

Obama in San Francisco attacked every Christian by his Bible comment....and disrespects anyone who is different from his own.

Obama has not come out and said it was FLAT out wrong to break into private emails.....he only gives the right to confidentiality to terrorists. He does not respect any governor in America given that he supports breaking into their private emails and posting their minor children email messages on the internet. Obama does not respect children.

Their "chaos" campaign has been uncovered by every legitimate investigative news source out there - so just stop trying to turn a lie into the truth. It can't and won't be done.

Obama has been saying for 18 months that we're on very unstable financial grounds. He's had to FIGHT to make that the topic of conversation while McCain repeated over and over that the economy is strong. It's because Obama is fighting for the voice of the PEOPLE of the United States.

McCain didn't recognize the problems with the economy - just as Bush didn't recognize the problems.

McCain and Bush didn't see it coming because they don't have their eye on the real problems we face.

Obama's message will finally be heard - and as this article states, he doesn't even have to adjust his message. Recent events simply make it clear that he was RIGHT all along. Just as he's right about going to war with Iraq and about the state of our Educational system and about the Healthcare crisis.

Obama has been Right. McCain has been Wrong.

We've already had 8 long years of Wrong.

Vote Obama/Biden in November

in his own Disney fairy tale. There is NO way that his economic plan and the cost associated

with it, will EVER be something workable for the GREATER GOOD of our country.

Until the Health Industry/Hospitals are set up as non profits, his health care change plan

will fall flat on its face. The man is too shallow to understand business, money,

economics and how the actual monetary system works in this country. He himself admitted he

has no understanding of how/why the Federal Reserve works or what it does!

It's too scary to think that we could have a President who thinks a Disney fairy tale

is a solid way to run a country.

It sounds GREAT!!! But it cannot be done without bankrupting our Country. As much as

i respect his community organizaer ability, he has to understand this Nation is NOT

a non profit corporation!!!!

I really hope that the questions posted during the debate are about MONEY!! And someone

will have the insight to ask him how he truly thinks his programs will EVER be funded!!

Just taking more tax money from the top 2% of the population isn't going to fly!

Put him in a room ALONE with a calculator, his plans and enough economic info so at the debates he can actually ILLUSTRATE his system so it has some data validity.

Having 4 economists from the Brookings Institute/Tax policy center (Liberal social program organization) ins't enough economic endorsement for me.

The thing is, now that McCain has finally figured out how divisive financial deregulation is, I trust him more to act on that, than I do Obama, who trolls continually through his opponents' programs rather than use his own initiative to develop programs. Having placated the right wing of his party by taking Palin onboard, McCain is now in a position where he can start calling the shots on policy -- and he's been doing just that -- promoting regulations which are anathema to the neocons, for example, and even getting Palin to do a 180 on global warming, as she acknowledged in her interview with Gibson, when she discussed man's role in created global warming, and consequently our need to cut back on the pollution which leads to global warming.

As a liberal Democrat, I'm convinced that McCain will do more to promote agendas I care about than Obama -- who is nearly as seriously unprepared to be president as Palin is. Ideally, McCain wins, has a first term in which global warming is finally seriously addressed by our government and financial regulation is accepted as sound policy and enacted. Then voters decide whether Clinton or Obama (or some newcomer) is best able to continue leading our country from there -- McCain will be ready to retire by then, and Palin will still have far too little experience.

If McCain wins, Obama has 4 years to work harder than he's ever worked before to learn how to develop and promote his own policies, and become his own man.

That is because Obama/Biden will use their own brains to resolve the problems after listening to their experts. While, on the other hand, McCain will bave to borrow oter pelple's brains for their ideas. Like McCain said he would appoint a 9/11 type of commission.

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary,

That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,

That the money the participants elected to put Into the Program would be deductible from Their income for tax purposes each year,

That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would Only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and

That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and if we get a Social Security check every month we are finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government and now to Dwight Eisenhower

34th. President, Republican,

in 1958 the first year that Congress voted to remove funds from Social Security and put it into the General Fund for Congress to spend.

If I recall correctly, it was a democratically Controlled Congress. And From what I understand, the Congress logic at that time was that there was so much money in Social Security Fund that it would never run out / be used up for the purpose it was intended / set aside for. Then comes Lyndon Johnson 36th.President,a Democrat

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson a Democrat, and the democratically Controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax Deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party. Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Albert Gore, Jr. (Al Gore) casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S. Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving Annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That's right! (Jimmy Carter) a Democrat, and the Democratic Party. Voted to give

Immigrants who moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! TheDemocratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people read this, maybe a seed of Awareness will be planted and maybe changes will

We've gone through a cycle of constant republican driven de-regulation since the 80's. Fast and furious returned to the game and it seemed fun at first, but now its out of hand, the regulations have been stripped down to where some financial and business worlds are a chaotic rule-less death match.

We need away from quick bucks, quick tempers, quick turn over, and quick steep gains and losses. Its time for safe, boring, predictable steady growth.an era where executives have to work hard for decades to earn the golden parachute, stock markets slowly rise yet surely, and house values which slowly but reliably appreciate. In other words its time to add regulations and slow the game down.

I don't see John McCain being a champion of regulation, slowing the pace, or carefully thought out decisions. I see a man with a quick temper, willing to make radical moves, and who enjoys playing the death match. This would not be an administration of calmer heads prevailing, but one of quick, unpredictable, maverick moves.

Obama and his followers are not so action hero exciting, but think things through completely and make careful moves with the future in mind. This is someone thats going to slow the pace of the game and remove chaos. Sure this guy isn't going to be nearly as exciting as Bush and McCain, but I feel we are at a point where we need a little less excitement.

Monitor financial leverage and systemic risk more closely. Prick asset bubbles with monetary policy before they grow too large. Discourage Asian governments from using mercantilist currency policy.
