They're panicked at the thought of having her speak without a script. McCain chose a women to look good on his arm, not one who is ready to become the commander in chief of the United States of America. Clearly she was un-vetted. She was a desperate, reckless and impulsive choice. I don't want either of them anywhere near the White House.

Since the media has chosen to openly be in the tank with Obama. If I was McCain, not only would I not allow Palin to talk to the press I would quit talking to them as well. They are going to spin everything they do or say as negatively as they can any how. So why bother?

I would make them as irrelevant as I could. I would only provide press releases and give exclusive interviews at Fox news and watch their ratings soar even further over their competition.

Sure, Biden has 80 interviews with his media pals. These interviews consist of such questions as "Joe, tell us why George Bush should tried for treason.", or "Sen. Biden, how do you stand up to the evil attacks by Republicans?"

The Charlie Gibson episode with Gov. Palin wasn't an interview - it was an antagonistic debate. NEVER has Charlie Gibson posed such questions to Obama or Biden. It's all smiles and "Tell me what you're feeling right now".

It's an unlevel playing field and Camp McCain knows it. Why mess with the "So-Called Unbiased Media" when they can talk directly to the voters?

I was a reporter in Wasilla, Alaska, when Palin was a city council member. This writer simply doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Palin was always accessible to the media, and she continued to be that way as mayor and governor.

This guy is using the Alinsky method for eliminating the opposition - you toss out lie after lie, hoping that one will stick, and you continue until your have completely destroyed the reputation of your opponent. The big lie this time is that Palin's some scared little thing fearful of answering questions from the bold protectors of the first amendment.

While working with her as a journalist I saw no such fear, ever, but, then again, I'm not a big time columnist. I saw my job as reflecting the community and stating the facts; guys like this writer are "advocates" for change, and as such don't care much about the facts, or the community, for that matter.

This article's premise is garbage. I expect more trash coming every day until the election.

FOX News Producer Shushannah Walshe just lashed out at the McCain campaign for denying access to reporters who wanted to witness Sarah Palin's U.N. photo ops earlier today. Walshe said the McCain campaign's restrictions on press coverage were "just unprecedented."

Oh yes, here we go again with the typical right-wing "repartee" (comments below)… if you don't have any real facts or intelligent commentary, just attack attack attack. (Hm, just realized how similar that is to "drill drill drill").

Fact is, Palin appears to be pretty close to helpless, without a script. I'm sure she's still got her extreme, fumblementalist opinions about everything, as per the filmed interviews from before her VP selection. McCain's boys certainly don't want any of THOSE getting out to the general public before the election... hence the quarantine. If she were anywhere NEAR as "qualified" as you ultra-rights keep claiming, then she'd damn well better be able to handle dealing with the press, doncha think? I mean, what's McCain going to do if he's elected, lock her in the white house?

Biden certainly has had his screw-ups, but at least he's got the guts to face an interview with an impartial journalist, without having a scripted, pre-approved question list. That's a lot more "qualifying" than being the part-time, mediocre mayor of a dinky town, and a 1-1/2 year spendthrift "governor" of one of the least populated states.

Oh I forgot-- if she flies her seaplane to the remotest part of Alaska, she might actually be able to see parts of Russia! Oh, well that changes everything…..

'redpoll' - how does your experience of palin before she was a VP candidate invalidate any of what the article said - it was strictly talking about palin being shielded from the media by the party machine now that she is VP candidate. it was nothing to do with her relations with the media in the past.

You know, in Trig's class there was a little Afghani? He was the child of one of the oil executives, and he was so cute, with his little turban runnin' around, everyone just loved him, and felt for him...

Karzai: Yes.

Palin: And everyone knew that we just had to defend him and keep him free and that's why I think that with a Palin/McCain...

Palin Aide: (looking up from clipboard) McCain/Palin.

Palin: ...McCain/Palin ticket, we can make sure of that, if we have to attack Russia, even, I mean, to keep people free at home, just like we want to keep our people free. We have so much in common! I know you have the problem with the poppies, and I understand because we have the same problem with the crystal meth in Wasilla? Palin: Right. The thing is, we just have to hit the ground runnin', Mr. Karzai. That's what I do. A few weeks ago I didn't even know what a Vice President does! That's why I put a clock on my wall--do you have the same clocks as we do in Afghanistan? With the twelve numbers? (points in air to numbers on air clock)--Anyway, I said "I'm gonna measure just how much time I have left here" and that's what you could do, I think, with the war, Mr. Karzai, is to put up a clock so you know just how much time you have left until you finish it. I tell you, Mr. Karzai, it's such a motivating influence on my staff, the good ones, anyway, they know what they're supposed to finish and when, they hear me sayin' "Look at the clock, people, look at the clock, and know what you have left to finish..."

Karzai: Yes.

Palin: And so I said to my husband, Todd--I call him the "First Dude"--Do you have that word 'Dude' there in Afghanistan?--maybe it's like "Khan" or "Emir" or somethin'?--I said to him, 'Todd, we have to take a look at what's happenin' in Afghanistan--before McCain called or any other thing happened--' cause I saw that Russia was right across from us and then right next to that you have all the Stans (counts cross fingers) Kyrgyzstan, oh, what's the others?--well, you are aware of them, of course, Mr. Karzai (laughs)...

Karzai: (Nods)

Palin: And if we don't let other people know of what I'm aware of, then the world won't change, Mr. Karzai. I know we have the same goals even if we don't have the same God yet...(aide touches Palin on shoulder, whispers). 'Even', not 'yet', I meant 'same God even', Mr. Karzai. And my point is, we can't let others stop our choice, which is freedom for those who deserve it, and that's why I know a Palin/McCain...

The MEDIA SILENCE from Ms. Palin has been deafening. It appears to many women that the GOP campaign has restricted her from speaking unless they write it and unless they give her permission to speak. This is not the model anyone was hoping for in a female candidate for the office of Vice Presidency. It is essentially a message from GOP that women should be controlled and used and then silenced when told to be quiet by men. Why has a GOVERNOR OF A US STATE complied with this disturbing mandate from a group of male politicians. Is that what Palin and McCain envision as the role of women in the government? to be obedient and quiet?

Are WOMEN just supposed to just shut up and go vote for the GOP, and then fade away? This is a really disturbing insight into where women stand in the GOP. They handpick a woman—a GOVERNOR, NO LESS—- and then muzzle her while they feed her the party line. Then—and only then—will she be allowed to speak her mind. This is what WOMEN MEAN TO MCCAIN AND THE GOP.

Let's hope the debates don't take the form of late night standup from McCain and Palin, as in their convention speeches; but, will actually address some serious issues which concern Americans. Also, it would be nice if an agreement were reached to not mention: a) McCain's outdated war story; and, b) Palin's view from her house into Russia. Palin should be flattered that she resembles Tina Faye....Tina in not cocked-eyed!

Silence speaks volums. She is so unqualified to be VEEP that one news conference or a few reporters asking tough questions and she's done. It will be very obvious how unprepared and unqualified Sarah Palin is to be VPOTUS that the McCain campaign is stalling as much as possible. The Vice Presidential debate should be interesting. Biden will be a great contrast to Palin. He will be confident she will be shaky. He will be knoledgable she will speak in platitudes and say nothing. She will look like a moose in the car headlights. But McCain made his bed and now he must sleep in it. In an effort to appease the uberconservatives and the evangelicals he picked Palin showing just how much he lacks in decision making for the good of the country and not just himself.

With McCains` age, I for one will not vote for anyone on his ticket that I do not fully know!

My vote will be cast for McCains opponent.

The media can make or break a candidate. Tick them off and you pay dearly. Even Fox, the propaganda wing of the GOP, isn't getting interviews with Sarah. What has she to hide?

Certainly if she can't take on the American media she can't take on Amadajinedad or Putin. Those guys would chew her up and spit her out.

A couple of clichés come to mind. First "If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen". and the other is "be careful what you wish for". McCain supporters may wish for her to keep silent but it will backfire. She is going to have to come out during the debate when Biden will make quick work of her. He will chew her up, spit her out, and she will beg OLD Johnny to send her back to her home in Alaska forgetting she ever existed.

This "giving in to men thing...so out of date...." No, it isn't. Palin has been told to shut up...and she has complied.

She felt confident enough to take the VP offer, and then to tell ABC that she was READY for the job. In fact, her scripts all say she is ready for the job. But the men of GOP think they know better, so they shove her into the closet and then blame that naughty media. Strong and qualified leaders are afraid of the media.

All the Cliff Notes on Leadership aren't going to help her. In the meanwhile, women, hear the message from the silence...a woman was chosen as a token by the GOP, and now she is being treated as such. That 's what you have to look forward to under (and I mean under) a mccain administration.

How are we supposed to vote for a VP candidate when we don't know her? Why won't she talk to the people whose vote she craves? Is this McCain/Palin's idea of "democracy"? I have to agree with most of the people here that I’m pretty disgusted that it’s been 4 weeks since McPlain’s nomination and just over to a month to the elections and she hasn’t even given a press conference - let alone answer any questions when she recaps her lies day after day. I think it’s pretty powerful when even staid TIME magazine openly calls them liars.

This is their vision of the democratic process.. muzzle the press and feed that people what we want them to hear. Sounds an awful lot like what goes on China, Cuba, Vietnam now and used to in the Soviet Union. Not our founding fathers' (or my) idea of democracy.

I think everyone is being far too hard on Palin and her refusal to speak to the press. She was not able to conceal her paper-thin understanding of ANY issue in "interviews" that were obviously catered and pre-prepared. How do you think she would come off answering questions without her speechwriter? Come one. You're expecting far too much. Based on her love for the media (pictures only - she KNOWS she looks good) and her absolute certainty on everything even when she sounds absolutely ridiculous, she does not realize how absurd she is. However, there are Repubs around her who do recognize it, and this is why she is not allowed to speak to the press. As long as no serious questions are asked of her, maybe the CNN anchors will continue to solemnly question whether a 1-hour meeting with Henry Kissinger is enough to make her an expert on international affairs.

I'm so discouraged about this country. We have been the laughing stock of the world for 8 years, and now they're chuckling again. At our expense. And many of us Americans seem as clueless about this as Palin herself. Somebody tell me. Was nominating her a big gag at our expense? Have we been punked? I'm waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out and tell us the Repubs were just kidding - they're going to nominate someone who has more credentials than my hairdresser, after all. Whew. Good thing this isn't real or we'd be in big trouble.

Are Americans so removed from the real dangers of the world today, which are only growing stronger as our place in the world is growing weaker, that they are willing to hand over the reigns of government to someone without the credentials for the job? Now they seem willing to kill the messenger (the press). All this because it's their way of making a statement of some kind? This is not a joke. Whoever wins this election will be leading this country and handling an energy crisis, a crumbling economy, multiple fronts in the war against terrorists and countries like Iran, North Korea and Russia who all have nuclear weapons.

McCain is the frontrunner, I know, but what does it say about his judgement that he chose someone for the number two slot who he feels he needs to protect from the press corps? The big nasty press corps are too much for someone he says is ready to deal with any world/national emergency! It is one thing to pull crazy stunts in an election. It has now crossed over into dangerous territory. Our nation is at risk here. Wake up America.

I'd guess some are. They would rather elect a President with no executive experience than a ticket with a V.P. that they think does not have enough. I have yet to hear HOW Obama is going to do anything. No experience, No record, No vote.

Im from Delaware and have voted against Biden for over a decade. He has done nothing worth mentioning for this state. Yes he has gotten his ear marks in, but I do not like earmarks for any reason.

If you think Biden is a better V.P. pick you obviously don't know him. If youre actualy comparing Palin to Obama I would suggest you re think youre choice for President. Obama is running against McCain not Palin.

What kind of democracy is this when a candidate aspiring to the second-highest office in the land is shielded from the press and the press prevented from asking the questions they should in order to determine the fitness of that candidate to govern?

Surely, Palin is, or should be, LEGALLY REQUIRED to be aviable for questioning by the press and the McCain campaign should be LEGALLY REQUIRED to make her available for such questioning by the "4th estate."

Did anyone notice that Palin disparaged old people when she made a sarcastic comment that she was 2-years-old when Biden was making speeches in Congress? Isn't McCain about 10 years older than Biden? Why would she disparage Biden for his age when McCain is older? And why would she think that longevity in Congress is a bad thing for a vice-presidential candidate?

Why has the press stopped investigating and reporting the Palins' ties to the Alaska Independence Party (AIP) and Troopergate? Those are huge issues. What kind of example is being set by Todd Pailn and Palin's staff by ignoring the Toppergate subpeonas? Why is pregnant Willow Palin out of school? Babysitting or is she being watched to keep her from getting in more trouble? According to Palin, while eight months pregnant with her fifth child (Trig) who had already been identified as having special needs, she traveled from Alaska to Texas to give a speech, her water broke while in Texas yet she still boarded a flight back to Alaska not alerting the flight crew to the possibility to an inflight medical emergency. After landing in Alaska and traveling further to Wasilla, she had the baby and returned to work three days later. At the time, Palin's husband Todd (AIP member) was quoted in an Alaskan newspaper saying, "You can't have a fish picker from Texas." Again, those are the facts according to Palin. Every mother and doctor knows that generally the more children that you have, the faster they come after a mother's water breaks. Some would call her non-emergency trips so late into her pregnancy child endangerment, selfish, stupid, or all three. Overwhelmingly most doctors would have advised her against even taking the first trip to Texas so late into her pregnancy, especially with Trig's condition. Some things are just wrong no matter who does them. They are just wrong.

Sarah Palin is a fraud. She was pregnant before she got married, has had an affair with one of her husband's friends, her 19 year old son is rumored to have serious drug problems, her 17 year old unwed daughter is pregnant, and she has used her political power to get even with people who disagree with her, yet all she talks about is being a "good Christian" and doing God's will. As a Christian she is a hypocrite who can not walk her talk, and as a politician she is completely unqualified to be Vice President. Her interview with Katie Couric showed her to be a woman with a disorganzied mind, a woman who is in over her head, utterly unprepared for the twist her fate has taken.

Even committed Republicans who support McCain have to ask themselves if they really would take the risk of putting our country into Palin's hands. Sure, being VP doesn't necessarily take a lot of skills, but being President requires great intelligence and a clear-eyed world view, one untainted by religious fanaticism. Look at the mess we got with the under qualified Dubya, and even he seems smarter and less fanatical than Palin. McCain is 72 years old, with high cholesterol and high blood pressure; his father and grandfather each died of heart attacks at age 72. McCain's Vice President HAS to be ready to lead. And by lead, I am not referring to a full speed charge into Armageddon.

For those of you who don't know, Palin belongs to a fundamentalist church that believes the end of the world is near: that war, financial distress and famine will kill off the sinful non-believers, and that when this holocaust occurs all good Christians will be taking refuge in Alaska. Furthermore, her church conducts witch hunts -- they actually use prayer to locate "witches" in their community, then publicly brand them as witches, and hold them responsible for everything that goes wrong in town. (Honestly, I think the long winters must be getting to their minds.) You can go on YouTube and watch videos of Palin participating during sermons like this. She stands on the altar facing the members. The congregation stands with outstretched hands, trancelike, speaking in tounges while the priest prays to "keep Sarah safe from all forms of witchcraft."

Could you REALLY feel comfortable knowing that a woman who holds these beliefs would have the power to declare war and deploy nuclear missles?
