As a voter in the state of Michigan, i have maintained through this entire cycle, that the state was bound to break Democratc anyway. It's alot easier to predict Michigan than many other swing states, because Michigan hinges squarely on the shoulders of fallen giants in the auto industry. When the economy is going bad, Michigan is feeling it harder than most anyone else, and we vote based on that. Decreasing trade regulations has been a Republican staple, and accepting the act of outsourcing (while tactically sound in terms of business strategy) as well; those policies kill all efforts to appeal to the social narrative here. When it comes to the economy, Michigan has made it clear it's the #1 issue, and McCain just can't win that battle no matter what he says. As goes Michigan in this election, so goes the country, and for better or worse, your next president has been determined America.

Not certain we are not jumping the gun. There will be a lot of fallout on this Freddie/Fannie deal. The democrats have a lot of blood on their hands as most of action to allow the GSE's to exceed their quality standards came from democratic actions and oversight. The GOP is not lily white by a long shot. But, regulation can never work without oversight. The 30 year old mantra to allow all to own homes was a lot of Carter/Clinton mantra.

Obama took a lot of cash from Fannie/Freddie lobbyist. This may not matter to the dumbed own partisans. But, it certainly can with the independents.

Once the people begin to know the true hisotry; and, not the partisan makeover, things may change.

The real problem was defined by George Washington is his Farewell Address. He told us what would happen in a two-party partisan government. It happened. Neither party gives a fig about the voter. They care about themselves; and, therefore, purposely prevent the other party from doing anything beneficial. Show me a person who believes this is the fault of one party and I'll show you a person who is part of the problem.

Obama et al have a soft underside. There is still plenty of time to lose this election.

Yes, the layers of lending and even the contractors were allowed to sell up. This was part of the problem. But, it took a backstop that allowed GSEs to pickup $trillinos of toxic paper - well over legal limits - to set this thing in motion.

The govenrment has said since 1980 that they wanted all Americans to own homes. It was then they began to ease regulations and oversight. This was very bi[artisan with the democrats owning much of the blame.The problem was never regulations. Too much regulation raises cost increases and losses jobs overseas. it was the lack of oversight. And, when some did attempt to right the ship in 2005, the mainly democrats loaded with GSE lobby $$ kept it from a vote.

And , Biden was worng. McCain knew full well of the subprime problem It is part of congressional record. So lets not get all caught up with the evil CEOs and their lust for profitt. Capitalism pursues profit. But, without oversight - not regulaions -capitalism can exceed risk parameters. In fact, very few banks failed compared to 1982. Most companies kept great balance sheets. And, bad government intervnetion - the fed's rates declines and bad terms on Freddie and Fannie takeovers - created much of this recent problem.

Liberals are found of attacking free enterprise. But, it is these ocmpanies that create jobs and pays the freight. No. Biden, the middle class works for the top 10%. It the corporations get a cold, the middle class gets pneumonia. That is what is happening now, Watch democrats raise taxes on big firms and watch the increase in deficit and unemployment.

This is very poor assesment of the situation. McCain doesn't need to win in Michigan and that is common knowledge. The onus is still on Obama to win one more state (either Ohio, Florida, or Colorado, or Virginia) that Republicans have dominated in presidential elections. All McCain has to do is win the states he should win. He doesn't need to pick up any Democrat states. Although that, too, is possible. Yesterday a poll in Minnesota had McCain up by 1%. All that has happened is McCain is pulling out of a long-shot state. One that, if he'd have won it would have been virtually impossible for Obama to win. Friends and supporters of Obama, let's not take the latest polls as a sign that we should stop pushing. There are other parts of the republican engine aggressively working to improve their odds under the surface. All across the country, GOP is working on lawsuits to disqualify voters, statistically discriminating against likely Obama supporters. In some areas, they are trying to disqualify people who have lost their homes due to foreclosure, to bring about a statistical disadvantage for Obama. I've just been out volunteering and the amount of racism i encountered is very frightening. THIS will factor largely in the outcome. So while democrat voter registration is very high, and polling indicates a significant lead, we will not be able to get Obama into the White House unless we factor in a big chunk of voter losses due to racism, and GOP's voter suppression programs. We should aim to secure an UNDENIABLE LEAD after those losses. We have to keep the pressure on, by sharing his plans with folks, continue fact-checking mccain's statements, and sharing them as widely as possible, and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LIE, so fact check all your arguments too. Keep talking to as many independents and defecting democrats as possible, try not to repeat the campaign messages, but share your personal reasons about why you think Obama is the better pick. We have to use our time wisely, and not waste it trying to convert people who have demonstrated that they are beyond reason, I've learnt from experience that it is a waste of time and effort. Aggression is useless, only facts and grounded arguments matter in this race. One more thing, you are going to run into a lot of people who say they are concerned with the experience issue with Obama, but the truth is that you can hire experience, and you can buy knowledge, but sound judgment guided by a moral compass pointing to the American people (not self interest) you can never replace. Time and again, John McCain has demonstrated that he is willing to put his own ambition ahead of national interests - Sarah Palin pick right off the DNC, "Suspension" of his campaign to go 'help' with the bailout bill, only to inject partisan politics into the process and messing it up in a big way, dividing us with irrelevant choices (guns, abortion, now immigration, them versus us) instead of uniting us, fanning the flames of war etc....We cannot to have John McCain in the White House, and we have to work REALLY HARD to prevent that from happening.

This breakdown projection does sound hopeful, but the fact that it is this close after last night's debate is baffling to me. Sarah Palin may not have stumbled or blanked out, but she did demonstrate once again, even more completely, that she is unfit to take the office of second in command. Her repeat calls for "less government" on a day when this country desperately needed a government bailout to rescue us from her favorite target, the "greed on Wall Street", made it obvious that she's campaigning on a completely different plane from the rest of either party. Palin seems to be speaking from the Reagan administration -- what she really wants to say is, "stop nukuler perliferashen!" She used her folksy phrases that were supposed to make folks chuckle, but they couldn't hide the chilling fact that this woman is completely out of touch with the lives of Americans TODAY. People are losing their jobs and their homes, and Sarah Palin wants government to stop interfering! If I had been on the fence last night, I would surely have landed unequivocally in the Obama camp this morning.

But we also need to consider the other state that splits electoral votes: Nebraska. Nebraska's 2nd Congressional district is metropolitan Omaha, an area that has a decent percentage of Democratic voters as well as a large Black population. I am surprised that McCain is giving up on Michigan. Actually, I am pleasantly surprised. I cannot stand John McCain. The economy will probably be in even worse shape if he gets elected. Think about it, when Bill Clinton was in the White House, we had a budget surplus and our economy was thriving. As soon as George W. Bush took over, he royally messed things up. Barack Obama's plan is to reinstate some of the policies that were in effect during the Clinton administration.

Anyway, as far as Michigan is concerned, the automobile industry is one of the most important industries in the state. Obama plans to invest in alternative energy. McCain doesn't seem to have alternative energy as a priority. McCain's priority is to win in Iraq. Who cares if we win or lose in Iraq? We just need to get out of there. We should only have a handful of troops over there, not thousands of troops. Investing in alternative energy will help the auto industry and the consumer. It could mean lower costs to the consumer and more sales for the car companies. The "Big 3" (Ford, Chrysler and GM) may then be profitable again.

The fact that the McCain campaign is leaving Michigan means it will be harder for McCain to get the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election. Based on the current polls, he doesn't have a prayer. Obama is ahead in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Colorado, and New Mexico. All of those states are key battleground states in addition to Michigan. What McCain should do is just surrender all together!

Change is what this country needs. Obama is the only candidate who defines how the country will change. Let's vote for Obama/Biden on November 4!

Katinpuyallup, the reason for the boggle about toxicity from Main St. filtering up to Wall Street is a good example of Palin's superficial understanding of national issues. Following her vacuous answers to Couric, she was drilled for days at Mc Cain's ranch with buzz words for her to use in the debate to try to make her sound informed. The problem with the buzz word collection is that when you don't really grasp the subject, you hook them together randomly and come up with such inanities as "toxicity from Main Street filtering up to Wall Street".

In her mind, she aced it. She linked Main Street, Wall Street. and toxicity, and had no clue as to what she was talking about.

It would take a series of unfortunate circumstances for Sarah Palin to become president of the United States in a few short years. I am not very good at praying, but I would ask those who do pray to put in a few good words to try to keep such a thing from happening too soon. The first request would be to simply not let her and her candidate for president win in November. I think that we would be very fortunate if she would run for senator of Alaska and win, get to Washington, learn the ropes and then at the proper time run for president. She has the basic instincts and some good ingredients that would make her right for the country after such a necessary seasoning process.

The next request would be that if her candidate does win in November, that his health and mental acuity remain at least in their present state for eight years, leaving out the possibility that anyone else would have to serve out his term.

The next request would be that she stick with the government business, advance to higher offices, learn the ropes and help the country when she is competent to do so, because right now, she is definitely not competent to do so.

A phenomenon like Obama can often be difficult to explain. However, we must remember the great Max Weber's identiification of the types of authority as traditional, bureaucratic, and charismatic. Obama is not a traditional leader, he does not carry a title such as prince or count, nor does he spring from a prominent, accomplished family. He also is not a workaday manager of a vast bureaucracy. This leaves us with with the matter of his charisma.

It has been a long time since this nation has experienced charisma on this level. Kennedy springs to mind. His resume, too, was thin, as were his accomplishments in Congress and in the Senate. TR had charisma in spades. It is a quality that excites people, even when they can't tell you why. A charismatic leader, also, is usually a newcomer; a long resume can even be seen as a handicap. His person will usually seem to sum up inchoate feelings and longings, an exasperation with the status quo.

Like any political phenomenon, the result can be for good or ill. On the up side, a charismatic leader can mobilize energy, inspire millions, achieve the unlikely. On the down side, he might prove a mindless charlatan, a deceiver, a seductive self-server.

The same is true in the case of our fetish for "experience." We must remember that long resumes are only sometimes valuable---as in the cases of Washington, Jefferson, or the vastly underrated John Quincy Adams. On the other hand, the holders of weighty, respectable resumes can perform miserably once in office. Think of the elder Adams, the disastrous Buchanan, and the elder Bush---unsuccessful all, but on paper three of the most "qualified" men to ever hold the office of the presidency.

Choosing a president is a crapshoot. We never truly know who will be successful and who will not. The variables are many and complex. Simple, dumb luck is often a crucial factor. The only thing we can do is vote according to our value systems and our worldviews. Some of us will vote according to how dangerous we perceive the world to be. Some will vote to protect whatever little hard-won money remains in our pocketbooks. Others will vote on the basis of some vague sense of idealism. Others may vote in the hope of finally realizing certain heartfelt desires that they believe would ring in a better world--more humane, more just, more generous. There is no infallible guide for deciding which of theses values we should pursue. We should, however, recognize that in the end we simply pursue those values that we PREFER.

No one should vote for John McCain because he is old and has experience. Lots of people are old and have experience. No one should vote for Barack Obama because he is young and seems like a breath of fresh air. Lots of people could provide that. We must vote for the candidate who most closely reflects our core values--what we want for ourslves and for our children. All the rest is spume and froth.

What is missing, and seems to be missing every four years, is a recognition that we all see through a glass darkly. We are all guessing. We can do this together and respectfully, whether or not we agree. We should do so without questioning the decency of those with whom we disagree. We should do so without claims that God has chosen sides or that our political adversaries do not love their country enough.

Our maker, to his credit, made us all different. He also made us equal in his sight. We are all equally insightful, just as we are equally daft. We must make our best choices in these political matters while remaining mindful that each choice we make is fallible. A due humility might then prove a touchstone for greater civility and a stronger fellow-feeling as all Republicans, Democrats, and independents work together to repair this world.

In regards to less gov't or more gov't and current situation... you do realize that the congress demanded that the banks give loans to people... even if they aren't a good candidate.... to live the American dream that everyone should own a home is nice! But not realistic if the person can not afford it. BUT I guess it is the American way to spend more than we make... and some how we think it'll be okay. How long has it been that we've been hearing of people who spends more than they can afford?

It is the gov't push, nice but unrealistic and reckless, it's the banks, it's the home auditors, and it is the people. And the truth is, that is the democratic way... they think the people are stupid and can't think for themselves, so that's why BIG gov't is the key. AFTER seeing all this irresponsible act, they may be right... further, let's take away our will to work harder by giving free money away. Currently, if you don't have money, then you'll get everything paid for by the gov't... and if you've slightly passed that line... you work hard but can't afford enough, you're predjudiced against. The Obama's plan will only take away our personal responsibilities.

You complain of McCain/Palin voters... have you honestly seen Obama's supporters. You ask them why? They say why not? You ask them why again, they say he's popular. You ask them again, why? they say.... well, you know... you know. Yet some how the ones here spins it so that McCain/Palin ticket voters are the uneducated ones.

To bubbcake77, the short answer is: Attend an Obama rally. To see thousands of people from all ethnicities, age groups, income levels, races, gender, you name it, come together and rally around someone who so singularly represents our common desire to unite toward a common purpose bigger than ourselves and make some real and lasting positive changes for the country is incredibly powerful. I was too young to really understand it at the time, but I believe Ronald Reagan did much the same in his first presidential campaign.

You and I may disagree about this policy or that, but Barack Obama has laid out many themes (see his acceptance speech at the DNC) that rise way above our differences over foreign policy, or abortion rights, or gay rights, or regulatory reform. THAT'S what has gotten so many Democrats and liberals -- a constituency who rarely agree on much of anything! -- to all get so excited about Obama.

As an Independent, middle class white female (the swing voters), I will explain to you why Obama will get my vote in November. As evidenced in the first debate with McCain, he seeks the commonalities between the differing ideologies as a starting point to unify and build. He does not seek an increase in hostility or differences. He is a unifier. He WILL make a difference by communicating with countries who have lost their faith in America and her leaders (along with most of the world).

He has a calm demeanor which will serve this country and you well. We won't see the smirks or the offhand snide remarks that the present administration is so well known for in their communication style (then they're actually talking with someone and not ignoring them). I could write a book on this positive attribute...

Obama will seek the thoughts of others and use those in his decision-making moments. I really do think that we are so used to seeing a "leader" ignore everyone's advice and do what he wants to do, whether it's understand by anyone, that we seem to expect Obama to do the same. Fundamentally, that's one of the biggest assets that Obama will provide as a leader. He is the type to delegate and will surround his office with people who have the same passion that he has for people and he will represent America, not damn her with his indifferences.

Yes, as a woman I would love to see another woman in the White House. I fully respect Sarah Palin's charm (except for the winking part - that's gotta go), but she's utilizing her feminine wiles in an arena that demands intelligence and the ability to think fast on her feet without a script. We've all seen that those aren't her strengths. She simply can not be second in line in this country. That would be the end for all of us. Drill, baby drill? No. The drilling is over, baby, we need alternative energy NOW.

Having wasted a lot of precious campaign time uselessly on Michigan, McCain now has a lot less time for all other states. Having picked an insecure sidekick he never trusted to go out on her own, he cut his campaign's exposure in half, compared to Obama and Biden who campaign separately and cover twice as much territory. So McCain's will probably rely mostly on badmouthing Obama in the remaining four weeks.

I am confused by those that insist that Obama takes Fannie Mae money? It's McCain's campaign chief that was collecting 30K a month was it up until September? for lobbying for Fannie Mae.

I also do not understand why people are saying Obama has no plan?

Obama wants to help jump start alternative energy which would require a huge new manufacturing base but also skilled technicians to maintain. The rich should not poay 10% in taxes when I pay 35%. Trickle down economics do not work, under Bush2 and Reagan under that policy we saw bank failures that needed bailouts. The rich do not buy more or less when they get more money they invest it in the quickest turnaround with the highest payoff which is wall St..

Want to get the economy moving? Build a bridge, pave a road, the blue collar workers are the ones who prop up main st not the top 10%.

Obama has a plan it's in print on his site. Tell me what's John's plan this week, today or this hour? Seems the "maverick" keeps spinning in new directions.

I am an independant voter who for most of my life have wanted to see a third party to balance the two competing powers that be. I see a obama administration as leading us down a socialist path leaving no incentive to take risks, to start businesses, to hire workers. I see a McCain administration as cutting taxes soooo much as leading to enormous budget deficits and eventually higher taxes after he leaves office.

what are we to do? both prospects are troubling. Neither candidate will be able to lower taxes or keep spending in check... just by their nature.

I say that americans should not be duped into believing that Obama can save us because of a fear of "four more years of george bush." That is stupid. Anyone with a brain who can see the earmarks contained in the bailout bill should know that all spending originates in Conress, not the executive branch. For the past 8 years congress has been run by the democrats who have accomplished nothing but to perpetuate the mortgage mess with their"everyone should have the american dream of home ownership whether they could afford it or not" policies which began during the Clinton administration. Look at all the civil servants driving BMW's bought and paid for by refinancing after refinancing of their modest homes.

Another thing is that if Roe v. Wade wasn't overturned by now when the Republicans had power, it won't be ever. Besides, it's the law of the land and can't be overturned anyway, Questions about this topic and any other topic regarding government's control over lifestyle and morality in debates is troubling and a wast of time.

We musn't be fooled by those who espouse "Change" without letting us know what they intend to change, how they intend on doing it and how much it will cost us. We all know from experience that campaign promises are just that and rarely, if ever, move past the "wonderful idea on paper" stage. Nothing seems to change regardless who is in office, think about it.

No... the real change that is needed is balnce a more effective government with as little distortion of the markets (labor, financial commodity, etc.) as possible. sounds contradictory, right? But it really isn't if you think of it.

Obama will rule by committee, McCain by autocracy. Neither will accomplish the above. It appears that neither candidate is fit to "Administer". Confgress will engage in perpetual deadlock for the next 4 years. We'll be right back where we started.

Which goes back to my original point, "Why not a third party?", "Why not now?" With the exception of the recent part of this century, there always was one (Populist, Bull Moose, etc.). It seems that that would be the only way of keeping the two mainstream parties honest and forge a consensus as we just saw in the bailout bill on an ongoing basis. Bipartisanship?, Try "Tripartisanship".

Which brings us to McCain. McCain is not so Republican as they would hope us to think. Even the Republicans dislike what he does when he votes with the Dem's. It appears he is the closest thing to being a "Third Party candidate" since Ross Perot. Democrats have no love lost for him either. They are using the Republican Candidate tag just to isolate him away from the electorate calling him "McBush" when he really isn't according to his record. Most of those "voting with the president 98% of the time" have to do with senate motions to suspend debate to order lunch, add an earmark to a pending bill, or for a continuance based upon a member's necessary presence at his child's birthday party. What a distortion.

Why do all our enemies around the globe want Obama to win? Many of our citizens think that by talking with our enemies we can forge an understanding. That is completely true on paper. BUT the truth is that we've been speaking with our enemies since the cold war through low level and indirect chanels on an ongoing, multi-tiered basis and it has not softened their hearts to us nor prevented 9-11. What are we to do?

We need a Teddy Roosevelt in the white house ("speak softly but cary a big stick"). The closest we have is McCain. "No, Mr. Obama, I know Teddy Roosevelt... and you are no Teddy Roosevelt." Sound familiar (Benson/Quayle debate)?

Teddy Roosevelt also busted the trusts in his day. I see McCain doing a better job with that than Obama.. Neither may be economic wizards but I believe McCain would be tougher and more effective in effectuating the change in the culture of corporate america away from business as usual without dabbling in socialism. This is what the American people want.

So, until there really is a viable third party, I believe that like it or not the only choice we have is McCain.

The polls are showing that the American people do not want a Senator who has done nothing in 26 years and a VP who stated in the debate that she wants more power for the Vice Presidency. Not to mention Palin's disdain for Gwen Ifills questions at the debate. The way someone runs their campaign is how someone will govern.

Let's examin this statement:

McCain.... He has no consistent message, first it was obama's lack of experience that didnt work so he picked Palin and then they were the mavericks for change. Change for what? I am still waiting for what policy is different from the Bush administration? What change are you promoting? The campaign has total mixed messages. McCain says he will reach across the aisle and then is totally divisive in his ads. I went to a McCain rally in WI with Palin. As soon as palin spoke the people left. Why would a group of people leave after the vp spoke? So you see there is no consistency nor is there any information on McCains website telling what his policies and stances are clearly (key word.... clearly and concise).

Obama.... His message has been consistent. Change we need now. His policies are all clearly explained on his website and they are concise. There are no mixed messages with Obama. He organized his campaign from the grass roots and is totally organized on the internet something that McCain admits to not knowing anything about. All the campaign offices are organized. The rally we attended in Milwaukee on Labor Day was totally organized and everyone was energized to even get to the event (some tailgated in the parking lot). He utters the word "middleclass" which McCain cant even say.

In conclusion I am voting for obama because as Chris Rock Says.... I am voting for the Guy that has one house not 10 because he is concerned with keeping a roof over his head vs the guy that can loose 5 houses and still have a roof above his head.

first off ... democrats have not controlled congress for the past 8 years. republicans have had a majority in both houses from 1995-2006, save about a year in 2003/2004, in which they have a one vote majority in the senate. on top of congress, a republican was president. so, if you truly believe nothing got done for the last 8 years, you're blaming the wrong party.

as far as obama and socialism, well, if you would actually look at his plan and look at his record you need to think otherwise. perhaps you need to actually look into what socialism truly is.

Roe v. Wade most certainly can be overturned. It doesn't matter who has the majority in Congress, they can't overturn it absent constitutional amendment. The Supreme Court, however, can overturn Roe v. Wade, but has not had the votes to do so. And, the debate about government's control over people's morality and lifestyle is hardly a waste of time. The government needs to stay out of my bedroom, stay out of my wedding chapel, and needs to not make my moral decisions for me. The thought that the government is the "moral police" is truly frightening. Countless atrocities throughout the world have be perpetrated on some moral justifications. Not to mention that morality is a very easy conduit for religion to find its way into governing (G.W. anyone?)

If you believe that a "bipartisan" government isn't efficient or effective, why do you think a "tripartisan" government would be any better. Certainly, there is much to be said about having many ideas represented and it's a viable argument. If there's deadlock now, with adverse parties controlling the presidency and Congress, why's it going to get any better by adding a third party?

and, as far as mccain, he has proven to be fairly in g.w.'s rank and file. on many major issues he's voted with what bush wanted. and, if you're trying to say that bush wanted congress to recess because some other congressman wanted to go to a birthday party, i'm not sure where you're going. somehow, i highly doubt that was part of bush's agenda ... the dems aren't the only one's painting him with the "republican tag." mccain is as well. maybe he was the "maverick" in his early days, but over the past several years he has become increasingly conservative. sure, he doesn't agree on everything, but he's not now the maverick he claims to be.

as far as talking with other countries, i don't recall us ever talking with al queda. obviously, an impossibility, and no one can really be faulted for that. but, that also disproves the point you're trying to make. you argue because something is impossible in one situation, it shouldn't ever be done. in any case, i think we've shown that the "shoot now, ask questions later" approach hasn't worked. if we're not going to talk, get over ourselves, and try to work things out amicably, what else are we to do?

why does everyone insist on "all of our enemies want obama to win?" have they polled iran? north korea? saudi arabia? did they run around the mountains in afghanistan and pakistan and poll the taliban and al queda? the implication that obama/dems won't do anything to protect the US is laughable. perhaps the party, generally speaking, doesn't have as quick a trigger finger as g.w., but that hardly means they won't protect this country. in fact, obama actually wants to go get the terrorists responsible for 9/11. something that bush has ignored, and mccain hasn't convinced me he'll do.

as far as economics go, all mccain will do is de-regulate, like he's done for the past 26 years, which hasn't worked.

and, for everyone out there saying that obama hasn't done anything, or doesn't have a plan ... please do some basic research and stop parroting everything you hear. just because you haven't heard of it, or you haven't done any research, doesn't mean he hasn't done anything. run a basic search for obama on THOMAS (http://thomas.loc.gov/) and you'll find he's accomplished quite a bit while in the US senate.

Although McCain has had some great achievements and ran a decent campaign against Bush, he has permanently disgraced himself by has erratic and falsehood to the extent that he is beginning to believe in his own lies. Much of what he is doing is on the advice of Republican operatives from Bush era but it is he alone who is responsible, unless he is a senile old man who has lost it.

After attacking Obama for months he has gone to select the most unqualified person ever in the history to be his running mate. He is bursting with joy as she, did not answer questions and instead was able to recite mean spirited and false talking points in the most disrespectful matter in a debate with an honourable and distinguished senator. Her ignorance in interviews with CBS was astonishing, the problem is not that she did not have the answers but she did not understand the questions. The blame is not her but of McCain who put her in that position and used the young woman as a political prop. He should be ashamed of himself, but he is beyond that point permanently.

In contrast Obama has stayed on his message of hope and reconciliation and has largely avoided mudslinging and personal attacks. He has if nothing else distinguished himself.

Palin is in no way qualified to be in a discussion of how the country can be set back on the right track, much less being qualified to be VP. You also seem to have unresolved problems with Hillary's loss to Obama in the primary races. Did you ever wonder if McSame even contemplated whether Secretary Condoleeza Rice would consider the job? We suspect that he is afraid of anyone who outpaces his own limited mental capacity. I mean, I'm not a Democrat or a Republican and I would have thought that many names like Olympia Snowe or Elizabeth Dole should have leapt into his mind. Obama is the least credible, least experienced candidate ever to run for President. He has never accomplished anything, has never been in charge of anything, and couldn't even win an election until his chicago political buddies fixed the election by having his opponent removed from the ballot. He has absolutely no basis at all to claim that he is capable of performing the job. He has actually claimed publicly that running his campaign has given him the "executive experience" he needs to be president. This is unbelievably naive and ridiculous. Just by saying this, he proved that he has no idea what it means to be the leader of the free world.

Of the times he has actually cast a vote on an issue( other than "present" that is), he has voted along party lines 97% of the time, proving he is not one to "work across the aisles" in a bipartisan way. His voting record is far more partisan than his opponent. Remember he is stating constantly that his opponent voted with George Bush "90% of the time", in an attempt to create a sense of extreme partisanship on the part of his opponent. Well he voted with Nancy Pelosi 97% of the time, and we have seen over these last few weeks just exactly how bad of a leader she is.That is not change, that is more of the same partisan politics.

Of over 500 bills he sponsored in the Senate, less than 3% were actually passed, making him one of the least influential and persuasive senators. He has even voted against bills he sponsored, when it became clear it was not politically popular to vote for it.

His running mate Joe Biden, a 30+ year veteran of the Senate, is the ultimate Washington Insider who is so entrenched in Washington politics that he would barely recognize life outside of it. That is not change, that is more of the same.

Joe Biden has stated publicly MANY TIMES that Obama is not qualified to be President.

The most popular President in his party's recent history (Clinton) has stated publicly that Obama is not ready to be President, and to this day refuses to offer his complete support of him.

Joe Biden has stated publicly that Obama did not choose the best running mate, thereby indicting the entire ticket in one statement.

Joe Biden has the reputation for, and a long history of, making horribly embarrassing gaffes ( Stand Up Chuck!) that are worse than anything Quayle ever could imagine, and his speeches are a known cure for insomnia.

Obama makes more money annually than his "rich" opponent.

Obama has had business dealings with, and bought a 1.6 million dollar house from, a felonious conman and slumlord convicted of real estate fraud.

Obama has a questionable relationship with a leader ( Bill Ayers) of a group of radical terrorists (the Weather Underground) that have bombed buildings and killed innocent american civilians and police officers. This group plotted to bomb the Capitol Building and Pentagon. He has sought the counsel of Ayers on matters related to education of our children.

Obama had been a close personal friend and church member of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, whose treasonous tirades apparently pass for "preaching" in Chicago, up until this friendship was forced to be exposed by the mainstream media after YouTube videos of the reverend went viral.

Michelle Obama has said publicly that she was not proud to be an American.

Obama was the second highest paid on the list of politicians who received "donations" from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to encourage continued federal subsidies for the failing institutions, and the top recipients were all democrats.

And the piece de resistance, Obama's time spent in Chicago as a "community organizer" was spent in affiliation with ACORN, a group whose list of known "accomplishments" includes massive voter registration fraud and interference with the election processes. He is suspected to have had had a direct role in, benefited from, and taught others to undertake these practices, although this has not yet been proven. These acts are illegal and he could go to prison for this if it is proven that he was even peripherally involved in these activities.

This is the man who you want to be President of the United States.

It is surprising that politician with such limited experience in doing the "right" things for this country has so much experience in doing the "wrong" things.

If the republican ticket wins, I am not nearly as worried about Palin being one step away from the Presidency as I am that Pelosi is two steps away. Palin would govern from a standpoint of common sense rather than deeply entrenched washington insider politics. Alhough she lacks credible foreign policy experience, no one is being asked to believe that she is an expert in these issues. She does have credible executive experience running a government and being in charge of multi-billion dollar budget, and by all accounts has been a very effective leader in that capacity. She also has credible expertise and demonstrated executive leadership in the area of energy, which most people believe is a key issue and the next big american initiative. No one else on any ticket can claim any such expertise or experience.

If the Democratic ticket wins, we have no chance of having any shred of credibility at the helm of this country. They deny any responsibility whatsoever for the issues we face even though they have controlled congress for over two years and republicans (Hagel, McCain) have been attempting unsuccessfully to avert the financial crisis during that time. If you control congress for two years under a lame duck president, then the problems are yours to solve, and they did not.

Now I was able to say all of those things without coming up with a sleazy nickname or denegrating his family, or spewing any lies or slanderous accusations. I did not attack his religious beliefs or his gender or his racial make-up. I also did not attack his positions on the issues, because as far as I can tell, he does not have any. However his speechwriters and party elders do, and I disagree with them, but that's not his fault, after all he's just the smooth talking pretty boy messenger.

Everything I said came from CNN and his own website, not Fox, not Rush Limbaugh, not right wing blogs, and I am not making any of it up folks. There is no point in lying when the truth will do. But as usual, you won't believe any of it, because after all, the girls on the View and Susan Sarandon and Barbara Streisand and Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow all say he's the MAN! And with the political credentials of endorsors of that caliber, none of the above should really matter, right? And you are more than happy to continue smearing "Caribou Barbie" and "Grandpa" with an endless stream of sick perverted lies and distortions, because the truth just won't do it for you...

Every single person I've spoken to about Hussein Obama could not elaborate on a single issue. They have no idea what he will do to this country if elected. He tried to re-define the age an infant is entitled to life support. If a baby is born alive during a partial birth abortion it is to be left to die.

I am reading a lot about the current campaign and statements being made by the camps especially by Sarah Palin and McCain which are

1. Surge is working in Iraq. Let me tell you teh fact that killings have reduced doesnt mean that war is successful and America is winning there. Fear is still there and it would remain no matter waht -

2. Secondly killings in Iraq has reduced because Al Qaieda has shifited operations to Afghanistan and Americans are finding to very hard to cope there and situation in both Afghanistan and Pakistan is becoming worse each day. If one says that is a success then God bless those who are planning it.

3. Recent elections were held in Pakistan and through manipulations US was able to install a corrupt to the core president Asif Zardari who is not only corrupt but also has been involved in murders and is hated person in Pakistan - so much so that people have started missing Pervez Musharraf and it has made the situation on ground even more dangerous. This is also I am sure a credit to the surge policy.

4. McCain and Palin are telling lies when they accuse Obama that he is reckless when he says that they should bomb inside Pakistan because THAT IS WHAT BUSH IS DOING AT THE MOMENT - every day around 10 to 20 people are killed including women and children by American drones - so it is NOT OBAMA WHO IS DOING THIS BUT ACTUALLY BUSH IS DOING IT - so MCCain and Palin should FIRST CONDEMN BUSH and THEN ACCUSE OBAMA about recklesslness of this policy.

5. All the enemies of US are praying that MCCain and Palin should win because they know that when these two would come it was hasten the downfall of US which is already on steep slope since Bush was elected second time.

So its upto Americans whether they show maturity and vote for those who would bring stability to their nation or once again fall to cheap accusations based on falsehood. The choice is yours but remember the world is watching.

One more think - if you think that Americans went in Iraq and Afghanistan to pursue Al Qaeda - that is rubbish - they wanted a stronghold in Middle East for oil and in Afghanistan they can control Pakistan and also keep an eye on China and Russia. Its clear to me that these frantic assertions that Obama is racist are a clear projection of your own discomfort with African Americans. I think his racial identity makes him seem dangerous to you and not his political beliefs or the philosophy he stands for...I mean haven't you felt scared the past eight years? The Bush Administration...now that's true danger...Impulsive, off-the-cuff decision making with no consideration of the effects on this country or this country's standing in the rest of the world. However, McCain is no Bush, I will give him that, but the fundamental ideology is the same...take what you can, ignore difference (then maybe it will go away), and act as the entire country's moral compass. Dismantle big government (?) and give all the power to big companies and big religion.

I have to say many of you sound like fanatics atop your moral high horses blaming "liberals" for eight years of mismanagement of government funds. I just don't see how investing money in programs to take care of our sick and elderly or in early childhood educational programs will be a benefit only for "socialist liberals." If you are in the tax bracket that Obama has proposed for increased taxes than you can afford it...I mean really stop being so selfish...If you really are "proud to be an American" than put your money where your mouth is and give some back for the sake of the American people who might not be as privileged as you (i.e., as white, as wealthy, as well-educated, as healthy, as sheltered, etc).

Basically, I just have difficulty understanding a political party (and I recognize I am making an over-generalization here) that places such an emphasis on family values and morality on one hand and then on the other are proponents of greed, inequality, and the denial of basic civil rights. I might be crazy but this seems like a contradiction. I feel that hatred, greed, racism, and homophobia where never the corner stones that Christianity was built upon.

I don't really think I am going to change anyone's mind by writing this, but it is nice to have my voice and opinion heard (as it will be on Nov. 4th). Your probably thinking these foreigners should keep their nose out of it, this is American business. And that’s the attitude that has resulted in the mess that we all find ourselves in.

Take the economy. To my limited understanding of international trade its better to be the person receiving money onto your shores selling goods and services than to be sending money overseas buying them especially if its loaned money. And what has become apparent is that lately the USA isnt bringing anything new to the table beside movies, pimple creams, weapons and steak knives. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think that when you buy more than you sell that’s a trade deficit, if you have to keep borrowing to buy that can lead to recession and depression…US jobs lost.

It seems that unchecked capitalism leads to corporate greed maybe a little bit more government (or people power) is what you need. Maybe the market has your best welfare at heart, much more than your government elected representative does.

China is developing quickly sand selling you at cheaper prices (and us) the stuff you used to make yourself , catching you guys on the hop, so what are you going to do? (we sell them the raw materials so the impact on us is not as severe but still bad). Somehow the American outlook has to change and the existing infrastructure will need to be used to seize the competitive advantage again i.e. people here now want to buy fuel economic Japanese cars rather than hummers…US jobs lost. Obama seems to have better policies on this ... Drill baby Drill is too little too late possibly even a step backwards.

On the VP. We have an old saying here “once bitten twice shy” I watched the vp debate and Palin kept saying “stop looking to the past” in reference to the Iraq mistake. How do you learn without reflection on history? Whenever Palin says something the world laughs and cringes at the same time. You cant do business with someone like that. She made negative references to statements Obama may have or may not have said on international politics, I.e. bombing Pakistan yet she is sends threatening innuendos towards Russia that wont help anyone. It seems the experience of her foreign policy /diplomacy is limited to a view of Russia. People around the world are genuinely concerned, and you need us as much as we need you more so now than ever. I hear these reports that she won the debate because the bar was set low and she didn’t stuff up, if mediocrity for a VP is enough then god help us all. I find it beyond belief that people even consider voting for her.

On foreign policy. A recent poll in 22 countries saw 17 countries hoping for an Obama win. Bilateral relationships around the world have to be rebuilt both on economic and security reasons. People are starting to really dislike the USA and you’ll loose business and become a target for the bad guys if the us and them “axis of evil” attitude doesn’t change, it’s a global popularity contest where the winner gets business and security.. US jobs lost. If McCain/Palin go around saying that America is the greatest country in the world that’s the equivalent of saying my country is better than yours and Fritz in Berlin or Gary in New Zealand will likely buy off someone that doesn’t insult their country .. US jobs lost (and that’s not even taking into consideration what crazy lil Mohammed over in Yemen is thinking).

So when you are standing in your ballot box thinking of which box to tick. Think outside of the square, think outside of your town, state beyond your borders and know that what happens on Elizabeth street Sydney can affect main street via wall street. We all can have a laugh at palin’s simple view but its your jobs. Vote republic at your own peril

A church that thinks that you can 'pray people' out of being gay, a church that allegedly, this year, with her in the audience, had a speaker who said that Israeli's who were killed by terrorists were being punished for being unbelievers. A woman who doesn't think that global warming is caused by people, who preaches abstinence education, yet look at her own daughter AND the question of her own marriage date versus the birth date of her first child. The hypocrisy is RAMPANT with this woman! And McCain? Yeah, he was a war hero-but he also was a lousy student, reckless, has had other people in Washington and the military question his temper and how he likes to gamble, got involved, allegedly, with his current wife while still married to his first wife-it goes on and on. You can point fingers at anyone, because trust me, McCain and Palin both have feet of clay. But the issue is POLICIES, what they offer, etc. Not this fear mongering smear campaign from people with nothing positive to offer but hatred.

Obama is half white-how the heck do you think that makes him racist? His sister is half Asian, he was raised by his white grandparents? How do you think that makes him racist? Last I saw, he has a very diverse staff, including both whites and blacks in prominent positions. I'm a white, middle aged, small town former Republican with blue collar roots-and I think Obama will be the fairest, most sincere, most decent president we've had in decades-and he has shown that he is calm, focused, surrounds himself with great advisors like Warren Buffet, Volker, etc. He isn't afraid to listen to other's opinions, yet decisive enough to make up his own mind. He isn't afraid of a scrap, but notice-he isn't trying to smear McCain's CHARACTER-he's talking about his policies, and that is fair game becaue it is the ISSUES that count! THis country is in deep do-do, and I want a president who is smarter than me, more able, equally hard working-not 'joe sixpack'!

To Blowing Bubbles, the book you refer to "The Case Against Barack Obama" is written by David Freddoso who is a writer for the right-wing publication the National Review. It's full of errors, lies, and frankly, is quite poorly written for someone working in the field of journalism.

When making your candidate decision, look at the facts from many different sources because the one you just cited is a hatchet job designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Find a better source to make your case and don't believe everything you read. Check your facts!

McCain paces the floor in the Fortress of Irritability. He is cracking walnuts.

A walnut slips to the floor.

McCain: Damn nutcracker!

Sarah Palin is sitting in a chair at a desk. She is writing on a piece of paper: "J.M + S.P." This is then crossed out and replaced by "S.P. + J.M.". These alternating versions , the one before it always crossed out, continues down the page.

McCain: Well, the first plan didn't work. We tried to put them in a trance with the folksy ray, but they had their deflectors halfway raised. If only you hadn't called the commander in Afghanistan ""McClellan"

Palin: But...didn't you say they were fighting a civil war, Sir?

McCain looks at Palin silently. He is smiling but he is holding back anger.

McCain: I think the time has come. We have to call in...Dr. Negative.

He pushes a large black button which is the only button on a red phone on his desk.

Dr. Negative immediately bursts through the door. He is carrying flyers, masking tape; telephone wires are wrapped around his arms hanging in every way; a tattered copy of the book "Accusations of Communism, Polygamy, Drug Use, Spousal Abuse, Fascism, Pedophilia, Miscegenation, Cannibalism, Terrorism and Adultery...for Dummies!" is rolled and stuffed in his left pocket, filled with bookmarks; he is dragging a Robocaller behind him, leashed to a chain.

Dr. Negative (quickly, eagerly): Did you hear? Obama was born in Bin Laden's subterranean bomb making factory, outside of U.S. lines. He was born on a pile of cocaine and dynamite--and the midwife was a Trotskyite!

McCain: Not yet, Dr. Negative. I want you to meet Sarah.

Sarah: Oh, we've already met.

Dr. Negative: That trooper went down! He poisoned the salmon milk at the Wasilla Bible school! With drugs made at a Leftist Satan worshiping collective! That you could see from Russia!

Sarah: You betcha'!

Sarah and Dr. Negative give each other a high five. Dr. Negative's telephone wires rattle on his arm as he does so, triggering the Robocaller, which starts playing "...illegitimate babies made in test tube factories in North Korea and sent to Chicago by Bill Ayers..."

Dr. Negative shuts off the Robocaller with an embarassed smile.

Dr. Negative: Just practicing.

There is a pause.

McCain: That's fine, Dr. Negative. That's fine. Because, now, I have a special job for you. An important one.

Dr. Negative leaps into the air with excited glee. As he does, detritus falls to the floor--buttons saying "Election Day: Remember, the 3rd Tuesday in November!", business cards, reading "Push Polls Anonymous--We Call, They Fall", "Mongers On Call-No Rumor Too Far fetched"; Bandaids with purple hearts; mangled and dirty chads.

Dr. Negative: A new job! A special job! Oh, Mr. McCain! I'm ready! I'm ready!

Sarah watches from her chair, filing her nails.

McCain: Now, Dr. Negative. You have to make him seem radical...

Dr. Negative quickly pulls a can out of his right pocket, emblazoned with the word "Radical" He opens the top. Red and Black snakes fly out.

Dr. Negative: (eagerly, expectantly, hungrily) Yes...Yes...

McCain: You'll have to start rumors that are so inflammatory that they will spread like wildfire and will be started too late to stop them with the actual truth...

Dr. Negative pulls a gigantic grinder out of his left pocket. It is labeled "Rumor Mill". He turns the crank a few times. Hamsters, syringes, and Peace symbols fly out.

Dr. Negative: Yes...Yes...

He is salivating.

McCain: They will have to be so incredible, over-the-top, based on such tawdry and poorly sourced evidence, yet riddled with tempting minutia--bullet gauges, Google maps of supposed meetings and the like, that the right will eat them up, and start analyzing the minutia with adolescent glee.

Dr. Negative (Very calmly, matter of fact): Oh, that's easy. They'll eat anything.

Dr. Negative reaches into his back pocket, pulls out a manila envelope labeled "Minutia: So-called "Proof" for the Right". He empties it to the floor. Bullet gauge measures, outdated copies of Photoshop, paperbacks entitled "How to Use the Insane as Competent Witness", "The Faked Moon Landings! Roswell! And Other Believable Phenomena!" and "You TOO Can Be A Warrior--From Your Own Couch!" fall to the floor.

Sarah plucks out the "Faked Moon Landings" book. She starts reading.

McCain: We know how our girl loves to read.

Sarah stops, and begins fixing her hair in a hand mirror.

Now, Dr. Negative, there is one final task.

Dr. Negative: Yes, Mr. McCain?

McCain: It is very difficult. Very...dark.

Dr. Negative: (Leaning forward expectantly, his voice quivering with excitement): Yes, Mr. McCain, Yes?

McCain: You will have to play the card that they played against me. Do you understand?

The room becomes silent. Sarah stops looking at herself, and looks towards the center of the room where McCain and Dr. Negative are staring at each others.

Dr. Negative: You mean...(eyes widened with disbelief. His telephone wires are quietly shaking as he shivers).

McCain (nodding): Yes.

Dr. Negative slowly removes from his jacket pocket what seems to be an ordinary pack of playing cards. They are labeled "Joker" brand. He takes a penknife from his pocket, and slowly slices the covering cellophane. There is a slight and distant roar. He looks at McCain.

McCain nods.

Dr. Negative then slowly removes the red ribbon encircling the cellophane at the top of the pack. He inserts the penknife--holding it from it very farthest end--and flips open the top of the pack.

Smoke begins to pour from the top of the pack, thick, acrid smoke. It quickly fills the room, covering all that is in sight.

McCain (shouting amidst the sound of smoke rushing into the room): And remember--no fingerprints!

Next episode: The smoke is cleared.

I am really, really tired of the whiners out there. I am a single white mother of two grown daughters. In the past eight years I have bought 3 peices of property and sold one. I have sen't two children to school, one is finished and in management in a major corporate resteraunt where she has worked for 11 years. I live in a double wide (within my means) and have sent thousands of dollars this year alone to children's homes in Uganda and Thailand. We have also sent thousands of books and Bibles into prisons. OOPSS!!! There goes that word. I do not have a college education, I am not rich. I know you don't care about me, but I have lived with the same odds as everyone else out there. ANYONE, who is willing to work and live within their means can live and give. Oh, and I don't have health insurance either.

If you want to whine about discrimination against minorities, look at your hero. He has made the most our of nothing except an overwhelming motivation to win. OH, he's had help though, but he wasn't afraid to use it. Help like Bill Ayers, Rev Wright, etc... some real rough characters. He has lead a duplicitous life... who really even knows who he is. There are stories of drugs and sex and fraud and does he even know what his religion is? Does he know his country of origin, is he even an American? Does he even want to be an American? Or does he just want to win?

He definatley doesn't have any respect for America, our Constitution, our flag, our troops, women, caucasians, Christians, our forefathers, ....because they would be turning over in their graves at what is going on. I don't give a rat's ass what color his skin is, it is the color of his heart that bothers me.

MY PREDICTION!!! OBAMA WILL TAKE DOWN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY! But, he will loose this election and I know all hell will break loose because of all the freaks that support him. Riots and hate and such... Bring it on. If he wins, he won't make it 4 years.

That being said it is obvious to me that you are not intouch with the principles of christianity. Anyone who is remotely christian and moderately practiced some denomination of christianity would not question what Barack Obama believes in.

Not to mention he has spent his life dedicated to working hard, exceeding expectations, and giving back to his community. There are websites that describe both candidates and you could have a better understanding of what you are talking about before spreading slander, and untruths.

If you want to sling mud against Obama, you should at least do it with some credible information. Barack Obama had 647 job offers when he graduated college. He passed up every one of those for a life of public service. That's called contributing to the GREATER GOOD OF YOUR COMMUNITY. I assume based on your concern for your tax increase under Obama's plan that you must fall into the 5% of small business's that are posting profits higher than $250,000 per year. I think it's clear who the self serving person is.

I hope that Sara Palin reads these articles for and against her. I really don't believe that she is intelligent enough to read intellectual and newsworthy articles. That has been proven when she was unable to name anything which she read, during her interview with Katie Courie. If she is a Christian--she is talking the talk, but not walking the walk. She talks and lies about Obama and his friendship with Ayers. What about her relationship with a Demonic soosayer--who believes in witchcraft? The Bible speaks of such activity. As a so-called Christian which she isn't--she is lukewarm and God said that He would spew you out of His mouth. She speaks of somethings, but LYING angers our Lord and Saviour because it is one of His "DO NOT" Commandments. Lastly, "He without sin cast the first stone. There are many skeletons in her closet and she is throwing stones. She better be careful and not open up Pandora's Box. She needs prayer for her insane and tasteless approach to one of God's children. Can't she see that all that has been said and done--God is protecting him (OBAMA) and there isn't anything that GOD can't stop from harming him. I am a very simple US citizen. I have very simple reasons to believe that if OBAMA HUSSEIN wins this election, America will never be the same. It will transform to a socialist country in the beginning by distributing wealth to the non working people making them more lazier and may be more criminal and ultimately turning America into a communist country as per hidden plans of Obama and his radical group. 1. who paid him the money to get to Harvard and how he got there?

4.why he does not explain his drug use as a Junky and his associations with local and fireign people to change /destroy America.
