I am southern, black and highly educated. I don't ever vote for a candidate based on superficial reasons. I did not vote for Obama because he is black. I voted for him because, in my opinion, he was the better candidate. In fact the Obama/Biden ticket was better than the McCain/Palin ticket. In no way was Sarah Palin prepared to be anywhere near the presidency. I have my own thoughts on why the republican party picked her. They obviously wanted to get the female vote. That is just as offensive as picking someone due to race. You cannot deny that it was only a strategic move. In all of the Senate and House they couldn't find someone more qualified than her? Ultimately they picked her because she was young, pretty, charming and most of all, female. The presidency is not something that you just kind of figure out as you go! The country is in turmoil and you would risk it being put in the hands of someone who is so far removed from what is going on in the rest of the country. If you elect a president in his 70s you better make damn sure that the vice president is competent enough to step in if necessary. So in conclusion, I considered ALL of the possibilities when I made my decision. For you to ASSume that African-Americans voted for Obama just because of race and did not give it the same thought and consideration as you gave your vote shows how truly ignorant and racist you are!

Cause of Death: Parasitic infestation.

It was a slow death. For thirty years the growing infestation sucked on America's softest tissue, destroying it supporting structure of pride and self-reliance and absorbing its lifes fluids of individualism and faith. In it place they left only a facade of false promises.

With its inner strength and supporting structure gone, it simply imploded, leaving over 50 million broken hearts and spirits.

The death rattle rang loud. They heard it in Africa and rejoiced. They heard it throughout the middle east and rejoiced. They heard it in Chicago, New York and L.A. and they rejoiced. The

Business as usual it seems to me! Take away the race issue and what do we have? Democratic control of the whole federal government! It's not a pleasant prospect as far as I'm concerned!

But we're all in this together and there are some points where right and left do intersect.

The main one is the American penchant to get too involved with other parts of the world using our military. We need to stop fighting wars for democracy, wars for nation building. Conservatives and liberals agree on the need to limit our military involvment in the world. They come from different angles one from pacifism and one from isolationism but the end is the same. Use of the military only when the national defense or our vital national interests are concerned.

Can we all agree that there should be no more Iraqs? I'd be the last person in the world to want Obama in the White House but now that he's in there almost anyway, I say "Hey, bring those troops home as fast as you can!" I have a nephew over there and I'd like to see him come back safe and sound the way he came back after his first tour. How fair is that huh? Why should anyone have to go over there twice? So bring them all home Mr Obama, as fast as you can!

On Monday,

Backtrack Obama was promising us all if he got

elected, we was going to be sailing down Easy

Street in gravy boats. He was going to take Oprah's

and Michael Jordan's and Whoopi Goldberg's millions

and gives us all free health care. Then he was going

to cut up some Golden Parachutes and pay off all them

overdue mortgages. Then, he was going to tax the Wayans

brothers, the Baldwin brothers, Richard Parsons, Bill

Gates, Charles Barkley, Shannon Sharpe and Antonio

Perez and pay off all our college tuition. Backtrack was

going to put up a couple of windmills and cut OPEC off

at the pump. Recession, we don't have no stinking

recession, because Obama Claus was coming to town.

Just a few hours later, in his victory speech, the

complexion of the entire world changed. The gravy boats

have been swamped, the millions of free health care

and tuition and mortgages available to us all for a

ballot, just hours earlier, have disappeared amid dire

warnings of a "tough climb ahead, up a steep road".

What changed? It was all sunshine and lollipops when

he was running, then, come time to deliver, Obama Claus

got shot down by the Ruskies. BS, BS, BS, Washington,

it seems, is in for a bad case of BO.

****************************************************

Nick, as I'm sure you're aware, african-americans routinely vote for the democratic candidate on an 80-90 split. Kerry, who is about as white as they come, received margins in the high 80's. When one considers the possibilty of black americans switching tickets and voting for obama for much of the same reasons expressed by Colin Powell, the actual percentage of black americans voting for obama purely for race reasons is likely very low.

It's not a race issue, the bigger issue is the utter failure of republicans to attract black voters, going back to the 1960's.

And Megadeath, would you prefer that Obama chose people with no washington experience at all?? I bet you'd then criticize him for lack of "judgment" and for being naive.

Did you hear even ONE thing in McCain/Palin's campaign that would have made a black person feel welcome? Everything they said about "Real America" was pandering to the rural, white constituents they feel are critical to the base--except of course when they were pandering to rich white people who want to hold on to their wealth. Considering most African-Americans live in cities and are not rich, why would they feel that McCain and Palin had anything to offer them?

And also: even if black voters did pick Obama because of his race, maybe they did so for their children. If you want to see poor black children have someone to strive for--now it will mean something when they are told by their family or teachers, "you can be anything when you grow up, even president." Wouldn't you rather them hear that than that the quickest way to fame and fortune is being a basketball player, hip hop star...or a drug dealer?

But I have a big prob with the young blacks and hispanic people that has kids like dogs having a litter of puppies so they get more on housing ; food stamps; and health care will they walk around with their cell phones and high Dollar rims on their cars and not too leave out their Radios in car that will bust your ears.and when you talk work too them you would think you cussed them out when at same time you have older people black white and hispanic that worked all their life but can't make it on S.S. and can't get help from any where because they make a 1.00 to much on their S. S. so have too only eat one meal a day and thats not a big meal

and live in falling down housing and now things will be even worse cause Obama has promised them more. they will be watching the mail for Opras check so they can get a newer car

There are numerous other reasons that might have come into play. First, perhaps some were offended by the Clintons' perceived race-baiting. Perhaps others were more in line with Obama's positions (albeit more of a tonal change than a massive policy shift). Or, perhaps some simply saw a historic candidacy and wanted to vote for the man. And yes, I'm sure that some voted for him because he is, as you put it, a "brotha."

My point is only that in the general election, asking a black voter what Obama's stances are is as pointless as asking the same voter what Kerry's stances are in 2004. The point is, black americans overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Its a problem the Republicans have had for decades. It didn't just suddenly materialize this election cycle with Obama.

And asking 100 people does not equal a scientific poll. It's fairly obvious, however, that you'd like to chalk up your candidate's loss to what you perceive as racism. You might instead consider why the Republican party has had trouble attracting minority support for decades.

It's near impossible because there will always be people who do not want to change and will go out of their way to make sure it doesn't happen. I also agree with the statement that Bush did not ruin the country on his own. But he did pick his advisors and he did support policies and a war that was detrimental to this country. As far as race is concerned, I am sure that a good percentage of people voted primarily based on race. However, that applies to whites as well as blacks. And in my opinion all who think that way are misguided. It is impossible to speculate why people voted the way that they did. This diversity has never happened before so you cannot compare this election to any other. I actually have a lot of respect for John McCain but we are idealogically very different. So I made an informed decision and hoped for the best. Because ultimately you never know if your candidate will live up to the promise. In the last 2 elections I felt that Bush was not right for this country so I didn't vote for him. I think history will show that his presidency was not very successful. So I am happy with my decision because I know that I used all of my faculties to make a decision that reflected who I am as a person. so maybe everyone should just stop bitching and try to be positive and do their part to make this country better. Individual responsibility does not end with voting for president.

Mark my words. Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he's gonna have to make some really tough - I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it's gonna happen. I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate. And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you, not financially to help him, we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him." Putin is going to test Obama and in a HUGE way. So you people voted for this inexperienced bleeder. You are gonna get just what you voted for. Even biden knew it and said it. He did not know he was being taped however. Just like the religion and guns comment by Bama. What a bunch of idiots this country has become.
