Now it will be interesting to see if reporters will be given some time by Sen Clinton to 1) 'let the games begin', 2) if they do get the chance, will they ask similar questions that were asked of Governor Romney with regards to her thoughts on her faith and the role religion has played in the foundation of this country, and 3) if she will answer all the questions with a direct answer.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so gleefully "harass[ing] and/or haraunge[ing]" Romney? The Founding Fathers were Deists; the country was founded in part because of a desire for freedom of religion (the Puritans, lest you forget). As a religious person, I have no problem with whether or not people are religious.

The Mormon Faith contains freedom, or the notion of "free agency" - that God put us here with the ability to choose what we would do and who we would be. So yes, in Romney's "lingo," freedom does require religion, and vice versa. I don't think it was a barb at non-believers - and the speech wasn't about non-believers, it WAS about faith in general, and religious pluralism.

While I am both a Mormon and NOT a Romney supporter, I felt that the speech was quite good. I also felt saddened that in a country built on religious freedom, religion has become such an issue. If Anton LaVey can publish his writings and practice his beliefs freely, why are we picking on someone who is (quite honestly) not that different from the mainstream? Why does anyone have to explain why they believe the way that they do?

This right-wing bozo gives me the creeps. As a resident of Massachusetts, I watched him say anything, anything to get into office, then concentrate on feeding the rich and sneering at all the little non-rich once he's there. But I think we're seeing his campaign stall now. It's an interesting irony that he's appealing to conservative religious pinheads, and they're turning against him because they don't consider Mormons to be Christians.

There appears to be a real hatchet job on Romney so that the media elite can promote Huckabee. Huckabee has been a pro amnesty person who has strong ties to Tyson Foods which wants cheap labor and no unions. He never seems to be grilled about this!

Interesting, since the media elite hate evangelical ministers like Huckabee. But if he gets the nomination they will turn on him for their real candidate- Hillary. Yes, Mr. Howard Fineman I have your number and plan.

My point was that reporters have been complaining that to date Clinton has not been giving them anytime for an extended session to answer a series of questions like Romney did. Clinton has given a political speech in a church before (in fact using a false Southern accent). She was there as a politician giving a political speech, not a sermon. So it's OK now for a government official to come into churches now and spout their political beliefs? Don't think there was so much as a murmur regarding separation of church and state when she did this. John Kennedy said it was absolute right?

The Mormon church strictly prohibits political speeches from any political party in any of their church buildings. But beyond that issue, I think reporters would like to ask her a number of questions on a number of topics, but it has been her decision not to 'let the games begin' as was stated above in the article.

without trying to inject religion it the race he did a great job of doing just that. why is everybody so worried about religion? it is no business of anybody what anyone believes in. just because someone is not some sort of religious zealot does not mean they are any less american or patriaoic than anyone else. why does reliogion make someone so much better than someone else, if that religion is one that is ok with you. i don't know what religion anyone is, it is none of my business and it is none of yours. religion should not be part of the political process.

Politics = ideology. Religion is a part of ideology. Religion (and interest in it) is not shrinking as people become more 'enlightened' with more education, it is growing.

Any politician who doesn't include any religious debate in their run for the Whitehouse is not in touch with the real America and even less in touch with the rest of the world. That said, it is absolutely essential that the views of those who aren't religious are respected and listened to and given a platform. This is freedom of belief.

Again, an illustration of the bias of the media. Seriously, some of the stupid questions I've ever heard! Especially, the continuation of questions regarding the undocumented workers at Romney's home. I bet 99% of American's have indirectly accepted the work of undocumented workers employed by legitimate companies. Romney is attempting to fix that! I know that reporters are smart people that understand the elements of an argument. The fact that they keep asking these questions has nothing to do with reporting and everything to do with bias. Pathetic.

Earlier this year I turned off my cable in disgust at how the news was biased and uninformative. At that time everything was about Anna Nicole Smith and was a waste of my time. Reading this story and others on this site I am reminded why I no longer subscribe to the newsweeklies either. The Fourth Estate in this country is abysmal. True journalism no longer exists. In regards to Romney's speech I listened for myself and made a copy to read. I do not need the lunkheaded opinions of pseudojournalist who attempt to mask their biases behind their press badges. Boo hoo, Romney didn't talk to the atheists or nonbelievers. As I read the talk, that was not his audience. All of the reporters in this Q&A are so unprofessional. I will continue to decipher the news through my own filter. I don't need their help.

I am not a Romney fan. I do, however, believe that the founding Fathers supported freedom for religion by choice. The people have the choice to believe or not believe. This does not mean that the doubters should have faith hidden from view. Your eyes must be closed not to be able to see that the direction of the world is headed down a path of war based on faith. Does this mean that a church must lead the way of the Country? No! The spirit needs to reside within the people. We are a government of the people and by the people. If the majority stand for faith in God then let the people stand up and defend their faith. The next president will lead the country through troubling times. If the end is near then I vote we stand with God.

I believe that the Press has been taken over by an anti-religious communist elite. Questioning Mitt's sincerity about whether this was a political speech or a noble expression of his faith and questioning our general about the war on terror amount to treason. Andrew, your actions are a pox on American society (or any other peace loving, moral society for that matter). You publicly admit that you went to Iowa for the SOLE purpose of "hound(ing), harras(ing), and harangu(ing)" Mitt Romney. Is this what your parents taught you to do? To cause problems? Of the ~17 comments on this blog so far, 5 are neutral, 4 are against Romney and 8 agree with me that the media you so proudly flaunt as the cream of America are acting like complete buffoons. Why didn't Romney mention agnostics and athiests in America in Thursday's speech? Because the speech's MAIN purpose was about respecting other people's faith and RELIGIOUS tolerance. Dude, agnostics and athiests don't have any of THAT kind of faith so why would they be included in the speech? Agnostics and athiests as a whole generally get ticked off if someone mentions religion and now someone does speak of religion and they get angry because they weren't mentioned? Does that pass the common sense test? Next topic explanation: freedom DOES require "religion" (or "faith" or "ethics" or "morality", choose your word) or our freedom will eventually be replaced by bondange/a loss of freedom(s). Freak out all you want but it's the truth. My proof? You can start with the Bible if you wish, but just open your eyes and look at history. Were the German people "free" when they were getting bombed day and night by American and English planes during WWII for over 3 years before they surrendered? Were the Japanese people of WWII "free" while their soldiers were slowly but surely killed as the Allied noose tightened around their neck or while their cities were firebombed and nuked? And today, the massive unrest and destruction in African nations or Iraq? Are you going to tell me that the leaders of these nations were under the rule of ethical leaders, ie, people of "faith"? The illegal landscaper? You know FULL well that it's not possible or practical for ANYONE to personally check the citizenship status of everyone they come in contact with. I loved Romney's answer about the waitresses! Notice that the reporter DIDN'T have a comeback? Good Lord I'd LOVE to be around when you accidentally have an illegal do some work for you. You're just hoping to wear Romeny's patience thin and see him snap because you're too weak and pathetic to be a man of character. You've found it easier to tear someone down than build someone up or look for truth and in the process you've become ethically and morally lazy. Its time to restore a little respect in this country. After Mitt is elected, the secularists, aetheists, and agnostics who undermine our nation from within, not to mention gays, journalists, and others, will be fully investigated by the Department of Homeland Security. Of course there will be some sort of registration. I can promise you that impertinent comments will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Fortunately the licensing of humorists should help to bring the problem under control, and I am sure Mitt will do the right thing in that regard given that additional prison cells could be a considerable expense to us taxpayers. Protect our Borders! We are a Christian Nation! No new taxes! Go Mitt!
