We shouldn’t totally fault John McCain for failing to be a true Republican, as Jack Cafferty accurately points out, ‘the Republican Party has lost track of what it used to stand for: small government, a disciplined fiscal policy and integrity’. In 2003 I changed from being a long term registered Republican just for that reason and for the last eight years we have all witnessed and suffered the consequences of the Republican Party being controlled by a pseudo-conservative mentality that has disguised their concentration on benefiting Special Interests and a select few, who have controlled the party’s focus and have manipulated the conservative Christian block, the upper middle class and others with subterfuge. The proof is in the damage that has been done to America and to the majority of Americans while the people are expected to accept the tongue-in-check smoke screens offered to disguise a concern for pro-life, against gay marriage and against some stem cell research as justification for ignoring the sins of a grossly dishonest government, a falsely justified war killing tens of thousands, an irresponsible concentration on always benefiting a few, real and total neglect of responsibilities, including the War against Terrorists, and of responsibilities to all people and then also the unconscionable and arrogant presentation that conservative philosophy dictates that government spending and policies should always greatly benefit a few insiders, neglecting government’s responsibility to the majority, even when the later would really benefit the total economy and then corporate profits and thereby even the wealthy. I hope and pray Cafferty is correct when he says, ‘Republicans under George W. Bush have done a lot of damage to this country in the last eight years -- but they have done more damage to themselves. It will take a good long while and a great deal of soul searching before their brand returns to the shelves in good standing’. As for Senator McCain, he has clearly established himself as subordinate to the pseudo-conservatives’ control as he tries to sell himself as a Maverick yet states he favors the continuation of the Bush-Cheney policies, attempts to pacify the pseudo-conservative powers by moving more to the right and then by quickly picking a VP nominee that they will accept instead of his own choice. America, the majority of Americans really can’t take more of the same.
