Chevy Chase didn't want Gerald Ford to be elected. In 1976 when he began portraying the stumbling, bumbling president on Saturday Night Live, Ford's *pubic* face and political fate was sealed.

pubic face is not the same as public face.

Some proofreading would do ya good. Stopped reading after that first sentence.

You really need to proof these articles. You've referred to Gerald Ford's "pubic face" in the second line and second sentence. Being about Chevy Chase's impression of this president (the only non-elected one) who did a great job in a bad situation at holding the country together, it seems more apropos of the comic and the writer/editor who didn't catch the blooper.

So, thanks to this genius, we got Jimmy Carter. Strange how history is going to repeat itself--thanks to Tina Fey, another Leftist genius, we are going to get the Messiah Obama. Horrible national economies under both--but the Anointed One did promise "change" and a New New Deal... Just like the revered FDR's New Deal--a 12-year Depression, which the U.S. got out of, finally, only because of WWII.

It amazes me that you can be so eager to write a puff piece about Chase that you can't even proof your article. Come on, we all know Newsweek is in the bag for Obama, but can't you guys at least try to look professional? Moreover, care to offer up any actual proof that an SNL impersonation, whether funny or not, has had any effect whatsoever on a politician's rise to, or fall from, office? That seems to be the suggestion made by both the washed up ego of Mr. Chase, and by the author as well. You owe me 4 minutes of my life back.

Funny, I thought Chase died years ago. He hasn't done anything good since "Snow Day". I find it interesting that a reputable [let's be serious] news magazine like Newsweek would listen to a has-been actor. Where did he go to school to study politics? If I had lots of money and did drugs I might be out of touch like he is, but to say stupid things and then it get reported in NewsWeek, is funny.

I am not a fan of McCain, but Obama is on record saying he wants to fundementally change this country. That is enough for me not to vote for him. Let Chase know that when his candidate gets elected, I can't wait to get some of his money. Remember, Obama is going to share the wealth.

When Sarah Palin "declined" to do that part of the Weekend Update on SNL, it was all part of the act. She was never intended to do it in the first place. Suggesting that the piece was originally intended for her was just a theatrical tool in order to get the audience to picture her doing it when watching Amy Poehler. It made it funnier if they could picture that in their minds. She was not actually declining to do it because it was inappropriate in front of a live audience. It was all acting.

While everyone else is all hyped about this "historic" (aren't they all?) election, it's nice to see Newsweek take a humorous slant. And it also gives me a little chuckle to see the Nervous Nellie republicans with their backs to the wall, going off on any little thing, like an irritable woman with no money and a good for nuthin' husband. Maybe they have succumbed to their own made up fears that they have tried so hard to foist on the ever gullible American public.

But being a George Carlinite (for the most part), I think I'm gonna just sit back and watch the carnival ride go 'round once more. Sure, the election will be great for the TV ratings, but in the end, Obama's not gonna be able to fix that much. Likely, things will just deteriorate even more, albeit, less quickly than if McCain gets elected.

I remember the Carlin bit where, since he didn't vote, people would always say that he couldn't complain. His response was that it was just the other way around. Voters bear the responsibility for whoever they elect. I, on the other hand................

Two things stand out about this election. One, how low the "democratic" has fallen in morality, two, how the press shamelessly parrots the democrats' lines.

Case in point - One of America's core beliefs is the right to the secret ballot. The democrats totally support the unionists recent and current attempts to ELIMINATE the secret ballot, which would give them "Big Brother" power over their members, allowing intimidation, harassment, and recriminations. Have you heard ANY democrat or "news" reporter speak out against this blatant attempt to curtail freedom in America (or "Rev." Wright, Ayers, Rezko, ACORN, "Redistributing the Wealth", etc.?) No, and you WON'T! The unions and the democrats are in bed together, along with their press groupies! They HATE freedom, they LOVE only the power to CONTROL. If you vote for Obama, you're voting AGAINST the secret ballot, AGAINST one more of our traditional American freedoms! One step closer to one-party Socialism!
