Obama's position is probably based on avoidance of intervention for future diplomatic gains with Iran. The error here is that blame for intervention will be made regardless of our behavior. To Iran, and all conservative muslim dictatorships, we will always be the Great Enemy (tied to Israel as the "people of the book"). Their perverted concept of Islam necessitates this. Although it appears as if a less conservative group exists within these tyrannies, it is unlikely they will have a voice -- ever. This is not a "stage" in the emergence of peoples which will eventually join the civilized nations. This is one of those rare "dead ends" in the course of history. The emergence of 20th century facsism apppears a good parallel. They will do as much harm as they are permitted. The amount of harm will be proportionate to the delay in intervention. Eventually, force will be required.
I say let the mullahs shoot themselves in the foot some more. Just watch, stay out of it. The mullahs are doing a good job at that at the moment.

Hasn't anyone ever noticed that Obama is a fence stradler? No matter what Obama says or does, he always leaves room for being a weasel...just like the weasel clause in contracts.
