Red States Tend to Have More Uninsured People

Katie Connolly

Today Gallup has posted some interesting figures on the percentage of uninsured people in each state, based on survey data they have collected over the first six months of the year. Unsurprisingly Massachusetts, which mandated universal coverage a few years ago, comes out on top. But despite the new system, 5.5 percent of the state's residents remain uninsured. There's not a single red state in the top 10 most insured: Massachusetts, Vermont, Minnesota, Hawaii, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. But six red states feature in the bottom 10, with Texas taking the cake for the most uninsured with 26.9 percent. The red state performing best was North Dakota, coming in at 15th with 12.9 percent uninsured. Chuck Grassley's home state Iowa follows with 13.5 percent.

Obviously there are dynamics at play in each state that influencethese numbers─unemployment levels, economic outlook, etc.─but it isinteresting to note that while Republicans resist health-care reformsthat aim to expand insurance coverage, it's their constituents whowould be the most likely beneficiaries. Democrats most vocally supportive of plans to expand coverage─like Barney Frank from Massachusetts and Anthony Weiner from New York─don't have as much to gain.

Want a change alleges that red states have more intellectually challenged people. Since Want a Change is intellectually challenged he could speak on that subject authoritatively.

Typical of liberal elitists, the majority of blogs below reperesent the true bigotry and ignorance of elitist snobs toward Red States. Drewand posted below that if McCain and Palin had won that we would all be in brread lines. Tell me Drewand, do you have any empirical evidence to back this up? With the messiah in the White House, we are already approaching bread line status. Donnan revealed his stupidity and ignorance about red states. My guess is that Donnan has a good job saying, "Hi, I am Donnan and welcome to McDonald's, how may I help you?" Keep up the good work Donnan you idiot. Donnan also posted that the temp in a town would be higher than some of these ignorant rubes IQs. Donnan, Nome, Alaska's average January temperatures would be higher than your IQ. Donnan, I have some news for you, even if we go to a single payer plan it wouldn't do you any good because stupidity isn't a pre existing condition.

Red States tend to have not only more uninsured people but also more intellectually challenged people as well.  Red States are only RED if they have money, power and an infrastructure of lies and deceit to control the unruly population of uninformed people.  Stir fear and anger thru lies and deceit and it's amazing what can be accomplished: evidence, Health Care!!!!  Stupid is as stupid does and I'm continually amazed at how stupid Americans can be............
