The Weekly Obsession: The Party of Snowe

Holly Bailey

This week in The Weekly Obsession: GOP Sen. Olympia Snowe. She was the only Republican to vote in favor of the Senate Finance Committee's health care bill this week, a decision that not only irked many in her party but set off a literal Snowe-storm, heh heh, of really, really bad puns. Snowe day, Snowe job, Snowe patrol: Seriously people. Make. It. Stop. Here's the latest clip from Newsweek's amazing Sarah Frank.

Fixing our healthcare problems will not be the result of this mess. it destroys my wonderful local non-profit, raises rates on the middle class exhorbitantly and is going to be run by bureaucrats who have run us into horrific and unpayable debt. Snowe's decision is no surprise, she isn't the sharpest tool in the sheda nd any good predator sees her as the weak one in the herd.

Too bad those in her party do not recognize the urgency of fixing our nation's health care problems. It's ironic that their failed presidential candidate ran on the theme of "Country First" yet he has been major opponent to the President's health care reform initiative. Two recent suverys of approx. 2,000 physicians revealed that approx. 60% of our nation's doctors believe it is time to reform our nation's health care system, While a RWJ foundation study concluded that if doesn't occur, the cost of health care for businesses would double, and the number of Americans without health insurance could soar to 65.7 million by the year 2019. As the AMA has pointed out through out this debate, Americans going without insurance are living sicker and dying younger beacuse they cannot obtain access to high-quality, affordable health coverage......Seems to me that Sen. Snowe is the only member of her party that is applying the "Country First" philosophy to her decision-making on Capitol Hill.

This is positive news.  She seems smart.  Whether you are a republican or democrat why do you have to have the same stance as everyone else in your political party?  Then why do they hate you when you disagree? Do they take a vow that every single person will vote the same? That's what I can't figure out.  Leave the lady alone, she has a freaking opinion and acted on it.
