Thousands of workers in Lower Manhattan today went into total panic when a Boeing 747 presidential aircraft— officially known by the call sign Air Force One, when President Obama is actually on board—flew low over New York harbor this morning.

re: Air Force One Photo-Op Scares the Crap Out of Manhattan

Yes, it should have been handled in a more professional manner and the citizens should have been notified days if not weeks in advance. Some may have wanted to leave the city for the day.

I am hearing from other commenters on other blogs that this is the fault of Obama and the White House. If anyone the Air Force needs to be called on the carpet for this one. And I fully believe Bloomberg knew otherwise he needs to resign for lack of respect from his fellow leaders.

So should Gibbs. There are much better spokespeople than him out there. Loyalty and friendship to the president is not enough. He should go back to being a senior advisor aide and have a more professional and more forthright spokesperson at the helm.

This whole episode was outrageous.

And it further hardens the resolve that there should be no interrogation inquiries or the like. People of the States are still freaked out and scarred. The commander in chief has a duty to unite our nation at this time, when we're at risk, not divide us or make us feel scared.

And I'm a supporter of Obama's domestic and foreign policy initiatives before anyone seeks to assume otherwise.

But these are serious flaws that leave people not feeling safe. Don't rock the boat.

<strong>White House Military Office director Louis Caldera issued a brief statement: “Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision,” he said. “While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, its clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused"</strong>

In other words, Caldera was ordered to fall on his own spear to spare Obama from embarassment, as usual for his staff. For Obama, the buck stops There. Call it friendly fire. I just hope we have enough troops to sacrifice to cover Obama's screw-ups.

Fortunately, this was not an act of terror, only a man-made disaster. The problem lies not with President Obama, of course, but rather with all those poor, deluded people at Ground Zero who didn't get the memo that the Global War on Terror is over, downgraded to overseas contingency operations. There is nothing to fear but fear, right? Right?

While this plays now as farce, it will be seen later as foreshadowing tragedy.

What should the future hold for the people involved in this photo-op?

Someone needs to explain to everyone responsible for this ordeal that there is software that can be used to make photos that is a lot less expensive for the taxpayers and not harmful to the people of this great country.
