Quit slobbering all over Obama! If you are anti-smoking as you claimed then you would have recognized that he was smoking since he was a teenager (and dabbled in some cigaweed and other substances) so either be for or against something and don't show favoritism because it is Obama!

I am sure if Bush fell off the smoking wagon you would not be lenient, rather you would accuse him of encouraging kids to smoke and being a tool of the tobacco industry.

Nobody falls off of wagons. He smokes, it is his outlet...for God's sake, it is his right. If he signs a law that takes away that right from the rest of the smokers, then I have contention. But he didn't. So until then...he has a right to do whatever he wants; however, if you are against smoking, it is a slippery path when you add, "unless you have a job I deem stressful." That's what scares me in this country. When it is OK to publicly state that some people should have more rights than others based on nothing more than your opinion, then I guess as long as those in power do what you want them to do, a dictatorship wouldn't phase you. Until your rights were taken away by a different group with a different opinion. We must be vigilant in cases where rights are not offered equally to all, as it means rights will most certainly be withheld from some...hopefully not you.

Smoking? Whatever. It is unfortunate that he is obviously flustered by the question as he may think it makes him look bad, or out of control. Guess you could spin it any way you want, but the bottom line is it is his right to do it and I refuse to take that right away, or pretend even for a minute that it has any effect on my view of him.

I THINK HE NEEDS TO COME CLEAN ABOUT HIS SMOKING. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT AFTER SMOKING 30 YEARS YOU CAN LIGHT UP ONCE IN AWHILE. I SMOKED FOR 30 + YEARS TOO AND QUIT COLD TURKEY 3 YEARS AGO. COMPARING SMOKING TO AA.....YEAH THEY SAY NEVER HAVE ANOTHER DRINK. PERSONALLY I DON'T CARE IF HE SMOKES. THAT DOESN'T MAKE HIM A BAD PERSON. I ACTUALLY DIDN'T EVEN VOTE FOR HIM. IF HE IS NOT BEING TOTALLY HONEST IT WILL COME BACK TO BITE HIM.

As a former smoker, I can agree it's an evil addiction. I don't really care if he smokes the occasional cigarette. If he can actually get away with it, that is. I know the man eats right, exercises, etc., so I'm not worried about him keeling over.

And BTW, to the person who said our reactions would be different if it were Bush, no, mine would not be. I hear GWB's wife still smokes the occasional cigarette. And so do millions of other Americans. Apparently, we do still have the right to kill ourselves slowly if we want to.

I don't care if O smokes, I don't care if he outlaws youth-targeted legislation, but past 18 he ought to leave it alone. Nicotine level regulation goes too far. Smoking is not de facto evil and there needs to be a line between protecting people from secondhand smoke and taking away civil freedoms.

True, Obama has the right to do as he pleases. He fit the criteria for an adult and can smoke until whenever. I smoked for 27 years and quit finally, thank God. It is an addiction, plain and simple. I am not judging him for his habit.

However, as the leader of our country, I think we should expect more. He should feel a sense of responsibility for showing the country that he is a strong man that is able to conquer his own addition to nicotine. How does it look when the leader of our country isn't determined or strong enough to quit smoking? This would really send a message to some countries. It was stated that the Presidency be a high pressure job, which is more than obvious, but he has been working on landing this job for some time now. This should have been one of his priorities when he was preparing himself for this very important position.

Just making light of the subject or making excuses doesn't downplay the signal that he is giving off.

It just seems hypocritical to sign an anti smoking law of sorts while remaining a smoker himself. I started smoking at a young age and smoked for 20 years (got up to 2 or 3 packs a day). With encouragement from my doctor, a prescription for nicotine gum, and determination to do it, I quit. I wouldn't dream of smoking another cigarette for fear I might become addicted again. I think Obama is a coward and a wimp if he can't make up his mind to quit even if he has to use a nicotine withdrawal prescripton to do it. I hope Obama is not smoking in government buildings or on Air Force One...if he is, he is breaking the law.

It just seems that it is very inconsistent for him to sign an anti smoking bill while he himself still smokes..........and he needs to be called out on this inconsistency along with any other inconsistency...........

The "I'm better than Obama because I quit smoking" is typical reality TV American though. You need to be better than him by putting him down for a bad habit - like you have none.
