She won't win the republican nomination in 2012, but now that she doesn't have to worry about actually governing anything, don't underestimate her ability to fire up the conservative base, which translates into $$$ for the republican war chest.

She doesn't have to actually run for office in order to pump up the volume, not unlike what Cheney and Newt are currently doing.

Just because democrats have 60 seats in the senate this is not a time to be complacent. The Sarah Palins of the world will try damn hard to see that change in 2010.

Maybe she quit to get out of the spotlight. You couldn't blame her for that since so many Liberal politicians and media hacks think it is sport to attack her or her family. Or maybe as mac inferred she will be loosed to attack Obama's insane policies against America. The insane policies comment is mine, not mac101s. Liberals hate her because they fear her message of common sense economics. They hate her because she graduated from the U of Idaho and not Harvard, Yale or Stanford. They hate here because she is a Christian and pro-life. Etc., etc.

I have a feeling she will have a positive impact on the 2010 election for Republicans and you Liberals can hate her even more.

Teddy, we are not against affordable healthcare. We are against the Govt taking over health care which they want to do no matter how Obama spins it. Medicare and Medicaid are broke. SS is broke. Canada and England have crappy Govt run health care programs. How about Tort reform to lower costs and tax credits to people so they can buy their own insurance?

Although the media is reporting that Sarah Palin announced her intention to resign, that seems to be mistaken. Her statement and other official documents on the governor’s website appear to take deliberate care to not use that term. For instance, the official press release say "relegate the power of governor.”

Why the equivocation? Seems that any attempt to avoid the appearance of quitting is made even worse by the transparent hair-splitting.

However, looking at the Alaska constitution -- http://law.justia.com/alaska/constitution/constitution-3.html -- perhaps they're being careful to not say Palin is resigning so they can preserve her option to act under Section 9 instead of 11 (temporary leaving of office vs. succession). This is also clear here -- http://www.gov.state.ak.us/news.php?id=1950 -- where they say the Lieutenant General will move into the "role" of the Lieutenant Governor, rather than "become" Lieutenant Governor.

This is just another lame attempt for Palin to maintain any political relevance. Her little spat with Letterman resulted in Letterman getting a huge bump in ratings while Palin came off as a shrew. The 'Fire Letterman' protest was lame and laughable with less than 200 people bothering to attend, Also, there have always been questions about her husband's use of his access to state contacts to further his personal finances. Either way, it comes down to Palin simply bailing out and - based on her rambling, incoherent speech - she doesn't know why. If she gets loose and starts with her own political agenda, everyone better watch out for the Godzilla from Wasilla.
