Conservative Christians are distributing an online petition called We Get It! which reads in part: “Our stewardship of creation must be based on Biblical principles and factual evidence. We face important environmental challenges, but must be cautious of claims that our planet is in peril from speculative dangers like man-made global warming.”Conservative Christians are distributing an online petition called We Get It! which reads in part: “Our stewardship of creation must be based on Biblical principles and factual evidence. We face important environmental challenges, but must be cautious of claims that our planet is in peril from speculative dangers like man-made global warming.”

Cornwall Alliance has created it on “Talking Points” on cap and trade,

It also puts its faith in such matters in the hands of a higher power.

“Cap and trade rests on an unbiblical world view. It assumes that a minuscule change in atmospheric chemistry (carbon dioxide rising from about 3 in every 10,000 to about 5 in every 10,000 molecules in the atmosphere) could cause catastrophic climate change, putting human and other life at risk. That belief is contrary to the Biblical teaching that a wise Creator made the Earth (Genesis 1–2) and on observing it saw that it was ‘very good’ (Genesis 1:31).”

Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and a leading figure in the social conservative movement, devoted much of his nationally syndicated radio show on Saturday to the topic, calling cap and trade a “regressive tax to the max.” Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, said in his blog last week that it “would increase an already staggering national debt by 26 percent by 2035” — a figure taken directly from the Cornwall Alliance’s estimates.

"Aside from her social conservatism, energy was the issue where she was PERCIEVED to have the most credibility during last year's election."

It's not PERCIEVED, Katie Connolly. It's PERCEIVED.

Hopefully, by the time this comment is posted, this column will have been spell-checked.

Then she quits on Alaska mid-term just like how she quit on McCain when it became clear the McCain/Palin ticket was losing support. She turned to self-promotion and self-preservation. She has never been about doing the right thing for Americans or staying in the fight even when it got tough. And she thinks that is acceptable behavior for someone who wants the nation's top job?

She doesn't like the nasty press coverage she and her family have received yet she thinks she could take the even harsher critics around the world? Does she really think she could take the kind of criticism Obama is taking right now and not be tempted to hand in her two week's notice to the country?

At this rate it appears this woman wants to attempt a run at the GOP nomination 2012 based off conservative, religious beliefs and her pretty looks. She's quite a set-back to the progressive women of America who have fought long and hard to be taken seriously.

She was in over her head as mayor of Wasilla & governor of Alaska; and so far under water as VP candidate that sunlight wasn't visible from where she stood.

Do your homework. She quit her job in the Murkowski administration for ethical reasons, she said. The truth is, if Palin has any expertise at all (maybe) concerning energy, it would be how many gallons of fuel her husband's snow machine will need to finish the Iron Dog race.

It is way past time to stop giving credibility to a dreamer whose ambitions are, clearly, far and above her qualifications. Palin is a good person, like your neighbors down the street are, hopefully, good people. Without her physical assets, she would simply be "Sarah Who?" to all of you.

The PRESIDENT and SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE know of her attrocities against people in Alaska.

Ask her how the Commissioner of Dept. of Revenue died? Did he find financial intel and was killed?

Ask her how it is a criminal investigation in place with Murkowski is squashed about children of rape?

Or ask her how she panics when I mention I will see her in FEDERAL COURT???

May be it because she ordered a no-arrest on someone pointing a gun at someone? Wooten...FBI...

Oh she doesn't mention that now does she? Just "twitters" on TV...I sicked Shannyn Moore after her..

Palin tried to take me down and my family members out - THINGS ARE NOT AS THEY SEEM!!!

so one has to deeply investigate what she is wiggin out about...

Could be I am stronger than all anticipated...

Well...don't make me federal property at a young age and not expect me to call home-base-DC- when the crap rises and Palin takes a dive right in her own mess of crap she created...

All it would have took is her entering office and see the Governor ordered by Frank Murkowski and assisted with state agencies and other programs that deal with severe domestic-violence and rape.

But instead she makes life hell for victims - no lost wages - then the Director of VCCB quits?

Ah AMERICA - take a deep breath when you are around Palin - exhale and you will smell her ***!

"Coal will remain a critical part of America's energy equation for decades, although coal burning utilities will be encouraged to invest in cleaner technologies." Is this the same "encouragement" that the bondholders of GM and Chrysler received when the government took their assets? I don't know from your language. Please use explicit terms otherwise you waste the reader's time?

"There are targets for renewable sources of energy, but their implementation is a long way off." Are these just targets written on a note pad for self-satisfaction? When coaches set targets and players don't match them, corrective action takes place. The government promises no corrections?

"The ramp is so slow that utilities will have ample time to invest in plant construction─again, so there isn't a price shock." AGAIN!!! What is this ramp? Is this the ramp the IRS provides me if I don't pay my taxes, like, you know, fines and JAIL TIME!!!!

When calling someone stupid or unread, please write articulate articles that indicate that you've done your homework. I, like the writer, enjoy speaking in generalities with the best of them. The only reason anyone assumes the writer is not ignorant (and Sarah Palin insult of your choice) of the material is because they work for Newsweek and, with publiciations such as this, that's losing its merit.

McCain's Record and Proposals on Climate Change

Arizona Sen. John McCain delivered a key policy speech on climate change on Monday at the Vestas Wind Energy Training Facility in Portland, Ore.

In it, he discussed the need for alternative sources of power, including nuclear power; his plan to cap carbon emissions by 2012; and his desire to work with other nations, such as China and India, to create better global standards for emissions.

Here's a guide to McCain's voting record and his new proposals on climate change issues:

On Carbon Emissions

Cap & Trade :McCain favors a cap-and-trade approach and sponsored legislation in 2007 to reduce carbon emissions by 65 percent by 2050. In his speech on Monday, he said that a cap-and-trade system would also encourage more entrepreneurs to develop new technologies involving renewable energy.

On Oil Use

McCain has said that he will unveil "a national energy strategy that will amount to a declaration of independence from the fear bred by our reliance on oil sheiks." Part of that, according to his speech, would involve relying more on nuclear power. The United States' existing 104 nuclear reactors alone, he said, "spare the atmosphere from about 700 million tons of carbon dioxide."

On Vehicle Fuel Economy

McCain supported an increase in auto fuel economy to 35 miles per gallon, but opposed a 40 mile-per-gallon standard. He is in favor of suspending the gas tax during the summer months. In his speech, he said that he would increase federal funds to develop more hybrid, flex-fuel and hydrogen-powered cars.

On Diplomacy and Climate Change

In his speech, McCain stressed the idea of working with countries such as China and India to tackle global warming. McCain said in his most comprehensive statement to date on diplomacy and climate change that he "would work with the European Union and other like-minded governments that plan to address the global warming problem to develop effective diplomacy, effect a transfer of technology, or other means to engage those countries that decline to enact a similar cap."

A few months ago, he admitted to my colleague,

Michael Scherer, that Barack Obama's economic plan would reduce taxes for most people. And now, in a forthcoming book by Fortune columnist Matt Miller, he makes it clear that the next President is going to have to raise taxes.

"If you do nothing on the spending side, you're going to have to raise taxes whether you're a Republican, a Democrat or a Martian," he tells Miller...and then he immediately makes it clear that the "spending side" part of the argument is nothing more than a political fig-leaf.

"It's arithmetic." Federal revenue today is 18.8 percent of GDP and federal spending is 20 percent. Holtz-Eakin observes that "the pressure are there" to lift spending [on entitlement programs, mostly] and taxes to 23 or 24 percent of GDP by around 2020, and to as much as 27 percent if health costs remain out of control.

Miller does the arithmetic: that's an annual tax hike of $550 to $700 billion, well beyond the range of any spending cuts that McCain has or might propose. (Those vaunted earmarks cost about $20 billion per year.)

It should be noted that Obama's proposed middle class tax cuts are nearly as foolish--and unlikely, in the long term--as McCain's, although Obama claims to pay for them by closing corporate loopholes and raising the top marginal tax rates to Clinton-era levels.

But it's John McCain who has opposed any and all tax increases, sort of--as I reported yesterday, McCain would tax employer-provided health care benefits. (He would also raise energy costs significantly with his cap-and-trade carbon emissions reduction program.)

Miller concludes:

So why does tax-cutting mania persist among Republicans, I asked Holtz-Eakin, the McCain adviser--given...that, as Holtz-Eakin himself explain to me, taxes soon have to go up substantially in any event?

"It's the brand," he said, "and you don't dilute the brand."

Americans say by 65 percent to 22 percent that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin does not have the ability to be an effective president, according to a CBS News poll conducted July 9-12.

Eighty-six percent of Democrats predictably hold that view, while independents agree by 55 percent to 30 percent. Even Republicans don't think she's equipped for the job by a 51 percent to 33 percent margin. Pluralities among all those groups - Democrats, Republicans and independents, don't think she will run for President in 2012.

Fifty-two percent believe Palin resigned because she thought it was better for her political career compared to 24 percent who said her motive was that it was better for Alaska.

Palin is viewed unfavorably by 37 percent and favorably by 23 percent with 39 percent saying they were undecided or didn't know enough about her. Republicans view her favorably by 38 percent to 15 percent with 45 percent noncommittal, Democrats view her unfavorably by 56 percent to 11 percent with 31 percent unsure, and independents see her unfavorably by 33 percent to 24 percent with 42 percent unsure.

The public was split as to whether Palin, as she contends, got rougher treatment than other politicians. Forty-six percent said the treatment was harder and 44 percent said it was about the same that other political figures got.

By Stefan Milkowski

PalinStefan Milkowski for The New York Times Gov. Sarah Palin, center, awards a state license for development of her natural gas pipeline initiative to Canadian pipeline builder TransCanada last December. As Ms. Palin steps down, Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell (to Ms. Palin’s right above), will inherit the program.

In the wake of Sarah Palin’s surprise announcement to step down as Alaska governor, questions linger over her signature energy initiative: the construction of a natural gas pipeline from Alaska’s North Slope to markets in Canada and the Lower 48.

Ms. Palin campaigned for governor with a pledge to completely rethink the state’s approach to the megaproject – instead of negotiating directly with the three major North Slope producers, Ms. Palin promised to essentially put the project out to bid.

As governor, she did just that, offering a suite of incentives (including $500 million in seed money) in exchange for certain commitments meant to protect the state’s interests. State lawmakers approved her Alaska Gasline Inducement Act in 2007, and last year awarded a state license under A.G.I.A. to Canadian pipeline builder TransCanada.

Exxon Mobil has since teamed up with TransCanada, and BP and ConocoPhillips are pursuing their own pipeline project separately.

But there’s no assurance that either line will ever get built.

The next legislative session “could decide whether A.G.I.A. actually becomes a pipeline project, or remains just a pipe dream,” wrote Beth Kerttula, a Democratic state representative in Alaska, in response to Ms. Palin’s resignation. “The governor has decided to walk away from us at the very moment Alaskans need her most.”

In resigning, Ms. Palin is handing off to the lieutenant governor, Sean Parnell, a lawyer who has worked as a state lawmaker, a lobbyist for ConocoPhillips, an official in the Alaska Division of Oil and Gas, and a partner at the law firm Patton Boggs. Mr. Parnell now pledges his allegiance to the state, and lawmakers are generally willing to see his stint as an oil industry lobbyist as an asset rather than a liability.

In an interview, Mr. Parnell stressed his commitment to “responsible resource development” and promised to fight federal decisions that get in the way of it.

Mr. Parnell is also promising to stick with A.G.I.A., and to follow the hard line Ms. Palin has taken with the major producers on gas production taxes and other fiscal issues.

In the end, Mr. Parnell’s approach to Big Oil may differ from Ms. Palin’s more in style than substance. “What you won’t get from Sean,” predicted Gene Therriault, a Republican state senator, “is the comments like, ‘Don’t let the screen door hit you on the way out.’ ”

Video Flashback 08: When Asked If She Supported Capping Carbon, Palin Said, ‘I Do’

Omaar: Sarah Palin and John McCain are in the Early Stages of Dementia or Alzheimers, may be Short Term Campaign Memory Loss ? May be just Plain Old [Dumb] I'll claim the Latter.

---------

Today, soon-to-be former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R) took to the op-ed pages of the Washington Post to attack the cap-and-trade measure currently before Congress. After taking a subtle dig at “the national media,” Palin called cap-and-trade “an enormous threat to our economy“:

Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:

I am deeply concerned about President Obama’s cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.

Palin then went through the litany of typical right-wing talking points on cap-and-trade, calling it “cap-and-tax” four times, and saying it would eliminate jobs, “kill responsible domestic energy production or clobber every American consumer with higher prices.” (It’s not and it won’t.) However, Palin didn’t offer any solutions to addressing climate change — perhaps because as Steve Benen pointed out, Palin never mentioned the words “global warming,” “climate change,” “carbon,” or “emissions” in her article.

But one other point Palin omitted was that she once supported cap-and-trade not more than a year ago. During the Vice Presidential candidates debate with then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), Palin was asked if she supported capping emissions:

QWEN IFILL: But I just wanted to ask you, do you support capping carbon emissions?

    PALIN: I do. I do.

I'm ready for plain old Common Sense from a likable ordinary American. The Left who fear this appeal of Sarah Palin have produced an unprecedented fear driven campaign of hate. In doing so they show the worst side of American politics.
