Apparently there’s been some misunderstanding about my column about Zoosk, the online matchmakers who harness the power of social networking to help people find love. Despite the fact that the headline says “Zoosk: a Horrifying Mix of Friending and Dating,” I think Zoosk is a wonderful idea. In fact, I even say as much;

So maybe Zoosk isn't such a bad idea for the young people. Why shouldn't a match get to know not only what you look like but what your friends think about your profile picture? (My skin shrinks at the thought but hey, I guess I could get used to it.) Plus Zoosk does give you some privacy—interested suitors can't see your pages unless you give them permission.

My lack of enthusiasm and seeming disdain for the site are what we like in the writing trade like to call "a gimmick." In order for my last point to make sense (Zoosk is good), I had to present the reasons why a person might be afraid of Zoosk first. Of course, Zoosk is horrifying to me – besides being married, my generation didn’t mix love and friendship (or at least not well.) This younger generation does and apparently that works for them. I’m happy for them. I even think they’re better off with Zoosk than I ever was with Match.com or … Craigslist. Perhaps my tone was a little too arch; but my tongue was firmly in my cheek and my heart was in the right place. So please, go to Zoosk, find love. You have my blessing.
