One can be forgiven for thinking that HIV awareness days seem like a very '90s throwback. The intensity—some might say hysteria—at the apex of the AIDS crisis has long since subsided, but instead

re: Are We Suffering from AIDS Amnesia?

Keep on highlighting the need to face AIDS and other serious diseases such as Malaria, TB which are preventable to be the main agenda of CDC as well as WHO.

The hype and attention given to H1N1 is a bit too much and the resources placed to stop its spread is enough to get rid of a number of the other infectious diseases.

Are Government doing all these activities just for the media exposure? Is H1N1 really different from all the other influenzas which are the main killers amongst the susceptible groups? Will the total deaths from H1N1 greater than those of the Infectious diseases? Its mortality rate will be much lower than the others. It is only because it is a new infection which doctors are NOT familiar with brings in the hype and excitement. ? a case of "prevention better than cure?

It is an unnecessary hype affecting adversely the world economy on Tourism.

It must be a national agenda on the new Health care program. I remember AIDS was not a known topic in 1968 when we as a first year Medical students were asked to do dissection on a cadaver who died from AIDS. Luckily I am still alive, well and healthy still now. Now that we know its causative virus, how it is transmitted and that it is preventable, why shouldn't we prevent it through promoting "safe sex" ads on every porn, etc.

Testing only gives you a sense of security and a method to identify and advise the "positives". What about the failure to advise safe sex to all the "negatives", especially the teens and pre-teens who are exposed to all "SEX" porn.

WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE GRAVING THE GLOBAL HEALT WITH THE POLUTED AIR, WATER AND ANY KIND OF TRASH FOOD.

THE AIDS COMES FROM THE LACK OF NUTRIENTS AND MADE US PRONE TO VIRAL INFECTIONS OF ANY KIND LIKE A FLU STATIONARY BUT SEVERE FOR POOR PEOPLE.

He does not suffer from general stupidity any more then any one else! Yes, there is that select group that have never done anything the "unsafe" way, but I know that 99% of the people I know have had unprotected sex at least once and they hold degrees, and are generally smart. There is no certain look to an HIV positive person, and we are human. Any disease that depends on human behavior to thrive or die, will likely be a long battle, not because of stupidity but because we are human. HIV has changed my life because someone that is important to me will now battle with that "stupid" decision the rest of his life, and the only reason its not me is sheer luck that when I suffered from general stupidity I was fortunate to have the other person be HIV negative. When we Spread the word, and stop feeling like its such a tabu topic I hope that we will see great strides in the numbers falling. We all need refresher training to remember that our general stupidity isnt our fate, its our battleground!
