Jesus vs. Allah

Man, you people are unreal! It must be truly sad to need to have a bearded white myth and his "son" to use as crutches to help you with life. God and/or Jesu have never done a thing for me or anyone i know so why should I bother to believe in a myth? It doesn't make me feel better, it doesn't help my life, it doesn't save me from sicknedd nor death so....what is the point??

Well I'm a Muslim and I agree that it doesn't make sense to have a public prayer (government setting) in a country that claims to be a "Secular Society." If we were in a religious government, that would be a different issue. I do think that Hamilton has some kahonas because he's addressing an issue that anyone would get reamed for. In a society like ours, we should be able to pray/meditate in public or in private even with each of our religious/ideological differences. Kind of like in Muslim Spain (a long time ago)... Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheists were all given the freedom to practice their religion/ideology even though it was under Islamic Law (Shariah). This also happened in Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Egypt... sadly none of those countries are practicing Islamic Law in its true essence anymore.

I'm Jewish, and I find opening meetings with Christian prayers, particularly those that pray for the worldwide conversion to Christianity to be exclusionary and offensive. I spent two years serving on the board of my homeowners association; we had board meetings at the home of one of the other officers, and one night, yet another officer (not the president, nor the homeowner) started the meeting with a Christian prayer...and he knew I was Jewish. Well, I spoke up and said that it made me uncomfortable, and that I didn't appreciate it. It never happened again. Too often we just "let things slide," because it is safer not to make a target of ourselves. The establishment clause stands proud, but the hard-core sectarians like to push the envelope. In my opinion, if prayers are to be offered in public, then prayers for every reliigion represented should be offered, which of course, is ludicrous. So, then, no prayers should be offered. It should be an "all or nothing" proposition, and Christians should understand that they don't own this country.

Do you think the Federal court is trying to do too much? Does it step in to regulate unconstitutionality of local religious displays, or community school shows or programs, or whether a local election recount is allowed and is that its proper function?

Why did the first and last amendments in the bill of rights try to protect states rights? The first and 10th Amendments directly attempt to keep the Federal government out of state and local matters to protect something. Some probably wanted to protect market share and profits, but for others it may have run much deeper, to protect the freedom to create something special, almost invisible in public culture now.

Extra Federal powers over the states rights were needed to force states to protect the civil rights of former slaves. So the 14th amendment was necessary to ensure and establish uniform civil rights and other very fundamental issues. However, when Court priorities are used to override state freedoms to balance the individual right to privacy, the Supreme Court also reduces ability of townships to have a spiritual identity independent of the Courts priorities.

The first amendment specifically attempted to guarantee state religious freedom - but allowing state religious freedom fails recent Courts tests based on Courts priorities of individual rights. The Court may have also set in motion the loss individuals??? sense of being deeply rooted in particular community and with that weakened a sense of deep connection to our nation. This power of the Court certainly changed the country for the better in the civil rights struggles. But when you look at the massive fraud and destruction of national banking, credit institutions and businesses one might wish the fear of God would fall on people who knowingly created, signed for, recommended or sold worthless mountains of debt for a few coins for themselves.

Try ideals like, honor your father and mother, you shall not steal, you shall not testify falsely, you shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor, love your neighbor as yourself, love your God with all your strength, heart, mind and soul, in a survival of the fittest world. Why should anyone listen? The Supreme Court won???t allow discussion of the real answer to that question, why listen to God???s instruction, in state or locally funded programs and in so doing limit the chance to create something that may be truly special and is almost invisible to us now.

Secular people will see the Court has struck the proper balance and worry about religious fanatics. Some Christians believe Supreme Court is devaluing first amendment protection of state religious expression and worry about long-term affects we see as a result of this devaluation. Should Federal Court leave local issues to the state courts? Does what do you think depend on what you want the answer to be?

Why don't you guys just use "God"? It's an umbrella category, right? So you can put anything that you thing under category as "God"? Say "God", and think of what you think as "God"... Unless you're an atheist, I don't see any reason the word "God" can work here...
