We Are All Team Zahara

You are right Newsweek will never allow her to talk about Malia Obama's hair even though her and Z maintain the same natural hair style most of the time. It's o.k. to pick on Jolie and PItt because they are White. Allison Samuels deal is that if Pitt and Jolie were Black, Z wouldn't be wearing her hair that way. So I guess Michelle Obama is not REALLY Black.

I don't know, why don't you ask them. You and Allison Samuels seem to make a lot of ASSUMPTIONS about who Jolie and Pitt are as people and whether or not they have Black friends. When was the last time you went to visit any countries in Africa? Do you know what hair styles THEY consider NORMAL? Why don't you simply mind your own business instead of talking about OTHER people's children. You are adults sitting around GOSSIPING about a 4-year old CHILD'S hair, that's sad.

Call me crazy but I still think that natural black hair looks perfectly fine with an occassional combing.

No, you aren't a member of the Jolie-Pitt household. But you are definitely assuming to their thought process and intentions. Your articles are ripe with implications that Angelina is careless or clueless or both. That is what your whole subtext is about - making assumptions that Angelina, as a white woman, can't possibly be making an informed decision about her own daughter's hair. It speaks volumes about your own personal bias against transracial adoption. You have not felt Zahara's hair, nor seen it in person, nor been witness to any conversations in their home about her hair, or race, correct?

    We Are All Team Zahara

The problem with this article and she posted before it is Samuels is a straight-up lying fraud. She pretends to be so concerned over Zahara Jolie-Pitt's hair. Did Ms. Samuels ever take a look at Thandie Newton's daughter's hair? That little girl's hair makes Zahara's hair look positively tame by comparison. But not a word out of Ms. Samuels regarding little Miss Newton's natural hair. Samuels says every self-respecting black mother knows she has to brush, oil and roll her daughter's hair every night. Thandie's daughter's hair looks like it hasn't seen a brush since she was born. So why doesn't Samuels take Newton to task for neglecting her daughter's hair? After all, Newton is a black mother, she should know better, right? No, Samuels' venom is reserved for Angelina Jolie, who she accuses of being a neglectful parent.

Samuels needs to stop kidding herself and stop trying to BS her audience. Her real problem isn't with Z's hair, it's with Z being the only black child in a multi-cultural family with two white parents. What she can't understand is that the Jolie-Pitts don't give a damn if Z's hair is straight, kinky or in between -- they love and cherish her because she is their daughter.

Samuels is a hypocrite. She has no problems with little black girls going natural as long as their mothers are black -- but if their mothers are white, they are guilty of neglect. Her problem is multicultural adoptions and she is too dishonest to admit it. So she lets loose two stupid, ignorant diatribes against Z's hair as if to prove her point that the Jolie-Pitts had no business adopting her because they "don't care enough" to learn how to car for black hair. Or at least care for it the way Ms. Samuels thinks it should be cared for.

Samuels needs to step off and shut up. She made a fool of herself the first time around and now she's getting in deeper trying to justify herself. Just back off and leave this little girl's hair alone. She has two loving and caring parents who know that it's far more important what's inside your head than what's on top of it. If Samuels stepped back and checked herself, she would do something about the mess inside her head (never mind the mess on top of it) rather than take out her hangups and her identify problems on a little girl and her family whom she has never met and probably never will.

You had your fifteen minutes, lady, which is fourteen minutes more than you deserved. Now do everyone a favor and mind your own damn business and stop acting like the hair police. Zahara's mother doesn't need anyone to tell her how to care for her child's hair, and she definitely does not need you.

Why in the world would they care? I'm sure they have more important things to concern themselves with than how your hair looks. Get over yourself.

    We Are All Team Zahara

I scrolled downthread and read some of the comments about caring for black hair and would like to add this:

Yes, it's definitely better to comb black hair while it's slightly wet right after washing it. Rinse it with a detangling conditioner, pat it moist with a towel (don't rub it vigorously with a towel or it will be harder to comb), put on a generous amount of after-shampoo conditioner and comb it gently with a WIDE-TOOTH comb, working from the ends up to the scalp.

When the hair is dry it can be combed with a fairly fine-tooth comb or it can be brushed using a natural boar-bristle brush. Never, ever use a wire brush on black hair -- or any other kind. It will just tear the hair all up and damage it beyond repair.

And finally, NEVER, EVER, EVER BRUSH HAIR WHEN IT'S WET!! Every hair stylist will tell you this. Never brush ANY kind of hair when it's wet, no matter if it's straight, kinky or in between. Otherwise you will end up with a head full of split ends.

What do you mean if AJ is not going to take care of her child's hair? Her child's hair is healthy, vibrant and natural. If you mean she is not going to burn it up with a hot iron or cornrow it so tightly that she pulls the child's hairline out, what is that to you? Taking care of hair and styling it are two different things. Z's hair is well cared for as long as it's healthy and clean. If it isn't styled the way YOU want to see it styled, that's your problem. You're not her mother.

    We Are All Team Zahara

Okay, I have a question for Allison Samuels: if you really are Team Zahara, if you are really concerned about this child, THEN WHY ARE YOU SUBJECTING HER HAIR TO PUBLIC SCRUTINY AND CRITICISM? What possible business can her hair be of yours? You claim you didn't attack Z. You are a liar. What do you call criticizing a little girl's hair as a "hot mess" on a public blog? If that isn't attacking her, I'd like to know what is. You come on here and beat up on a little girl who is only FOUR AND A HALF YEARS OLD and then you act all hurt and misunderstood when your ass gets kicked.

You are not Team Zahara, you hypocritical bitch. You don't give a damn about that child. You are riding on her parents' fame to get attention. That's your sole concern. This isn't about Zahara or even about her parents. This is all about you. It makes me sick to my stomach that a respected national publication like Newsweek would let a hack like you use their forum to promote your cheap agenda. Well you got your lousy fifteen minutes, so now you can get gone. Just disappear. And from now on, if you have a shred of decency left in you, STFU about this beautiful little girl.

    We Are All Team Zahara

(Edited version due to some errors that appeared when posted a while ago. Corrected post.)

I wasn't supposed to post another comment since I made mine already few days ago. However, I want to share with you a post written few months ago at another site which I saved on my file. This still pertains with a little bit of Zahara's hair but something we should ponder & should have proper perspective in life. So, here it goes:

    "By Teri:

A day after picking up her newly adopted daughter in Ethiopia, Angelina Jolie began to worry something was wrong.

Six-month-old Zahara Marley Jolie, already under-weight at just 9 lbs.,wasn't drinking enough formula. Jolie took Zahara for a checkup and wound up spending a week by her daughter's side in a New York City hospital as the baby battled a bacterial infection that, left untreated, could have been life-threatening."LIKE ANYBODY ELSE," Jolie "WAS A MOM WHO WAS VERY CONCERNED AND AFRAID," says Dr. Jane Aronson, the pediatrician and expert in international adoption medicine who treated Zahara."SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE ANSWERS WERE GOING TO BE. SHE WAS REALLY AFRAID THAT THE BABY WOULDN'T GET BETTER."

Fortunately, after being treated with fluids for dehydration and antibiotics to combat what Dr. Aronson eventually diagnosed as a SALMONELLA INFECTION, Zahara left the hospital "happy and gurgling" July 15, 2005 with a clean bill of health, says Dr. Aronson."SHE'S A FIGHTER." A friend of Jolie???s says the ordeal was "AN EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL TIME" for the actress."SHE WAS THERE 24 HOURS A DAY, KEEPING WATCH," says Dr. Aronson."SHE KEPT SAYING HOW MUCH SHE ADMIRED HER BABY. SHE HAD SO MUCH ADMIRATION AND RESPECT FOR ZAHARA'S STRENGTH."

CHILDREN ARE DYING BY THE THOUSANDS IN OTHER COUNTRIES AND SOME AMERICANS ARE WORRIED ABOUT ZAHARA'S HAIR? REALLY?"
