It appears the health care package has a chance with the House - despite much of congress not having even read what's in the nearly 2000 page monster. As it has been repeatedly pointed out, it is disturbing that waste, fraud and incompetence haven't been remotely addressed. Also, if the bill is passed, Obama's desire to have government single-payer insurance will eventually come to fruition. People should fear single payer for many reasons, including government control. Also, France and Canada are in trouble with it, with Canada trying to get insurers back into the system. When the insurers here are phased out through attrition, Obama will both have his way and won't have to take the blame for the insurance companies demise. Obama's claim that you can keep the insurance you have is correct for the moment, which is all he needs to get it passed. However everyone will eventually be phased into the government plan, which will naturally put the insurers out of business. If the insurers aren't there, you can't "keep what you have", but once again that won't matter once the bill is passed.
And by the way, Obama and some leading democrats have stated their position on single payer and how they plan to get there all along:
